The Battle Creek Alano Club intends to use opioid settlement grant funds to create a safer space for those Calhoun County residents in recovery.

The 2025 grants total nearly $600,000 the county is receiving in a settlement with drugmakers. The grants go to local organizations "...working to prevent, treat, and reduce the impacts of opioid use," according to the office of the Calhoun County Administrator/Controller.

The Alano Club of Battle Creek will receive $100,000 to support the Recovery Grounds Cafe, described as a "safe and supportive space for individuals in recovery."

Alano Club Executive Director Dan Schell joins Community Matters to reflect on the progress the grant expects to provide - as well as an overall expansion of impact in the community.
