Jana Shelfer (00:00):
Are you ready to
create a life you crave?
Let's spin that doom loop ofnegativity into an upward
success cycle and start LivingLucky®.
Jason Shelfer (00:14):
Good morning.
Jana Shelfer (00:15):
I'm Jana, I'm
Jason and we are Living Lucky®.
You are too.
I want to talk about intention.
Jason Shelfer (00:23):
I love some
intention.
Jana Shelfer (00:24):
It is really the
secret behind the secret.
Jason Shelfer (00:28):
It is when you
put your attention on your
intention, things change.
Jana Shelfer (00:33):
Oh my gosh, did
you just make that up?
That's brilliant.
I'm brilliant, you should quotethat Attention on your
intention.
Jason Shelfer (00:43):
Yeah, it's big
and it's one of those things
where sometimes we forget, likewe get in that habitual way of
living and we just keep showingup and doing the same thing,
hoping to get a new result, butwe don't change anything because
we haven't clearly defined ourintention.
Jana Shelfer (01:01):
So I'm having
lunch today with a former
colleague that I haven't reallyseen or talked to in probably at
least seven years.
Jason Shelfer (01:11):
Wow, seven year
itch Got to go back and see
Right.
Jana Shelfer (01:16):
And I've had
nerves.
I've had gosh.
I've actually visualized whatthe conversation is going to be.
I've also been thinking gosh,so much has happened in the last
seven years.
Where do I even start?
If he asked about me?
Jason Shelfer (01:35):
Right.
Jana Shelfer (01:35):
I don't even know
where to start.
And then something came over meand I was like you know what?
My intention is just to connectwith an old friend and my
intention is just to laugh, tolaugh and be self-deprecating
about our former years togetherand how life has treated us now.
(02:00):
And that's.
Jason Shelfer (02:02):
I think that's a
very healthy intention, because
otherwise sometimes we getcaught up in ego and also like
the what if?
On the on the flip side of thecoin.
Jana Shelfer (02:13):
Yeah, and I I hate
to say this, but it there can
be a oh my gosh, look at whatI've done and I've done this and
I've done that when that, whenwe all know we've had our equal
share of.
Jason Shelfer (02:25):
Ups and downs,
successes and failures, just
like the stock market it goes up, it goes down, it bounces out.
Yes.
Jana Shelfer (02:32):
You know what I'm
saying.
Jason Shelfer (02:33):
Yes.
Jana Shelfer (02:35):
And I feel like if
I just go with the intention to
laugh, then my energy willreflect that and I think that it
will be well-received.
Jason Shelfer (02:50):
I do too,
especially given the history.
I mean, it was a 12-year runwith that co-worker and you guys
love to laugh together.
You like to talk?
About deep things, but you alsolove to laugh with each other.
Jana Shelfer (03:04):
I often say, if I
could make this person laugh,
then I felt this little, silly, little twinkle inside my soul
Does that make sense?
Jason Shelfer (03:17):
Yeah, because I
think that laughter is one of
the best forms of connection, like not a laughing at but
laughing with.
Right, that is a very, veryconnecting.
That's like connective tissue.
Jana Shelfer (03:31):
Okay.
Jason Shelfer (03:31):
It's an energy.
So when energy is contagiousand you're able to share that
energy and you're saying, hey, life is like you mentioned,
there's ups and downs andeverything, we all have our
equal share.
Yes, well, if we can't laugh atourselves while we're in the
joke, I mean it's a.
Jana Shelfer (03:49):
While we're in the
joke.
That's so funny.
Jason Shelfer (03:52):
Because a lot of
times, like recognizing hey,
these things happen, thesethings happen and all of it's
happening for us and it's whatthe definition we're putting on
it is negative or positive.
Why don't we find a way to becurious and laugh through any of
it?
Because five years from nowit'll all be funny anyway.
Seven years from now, a lot ofthe things that we previously
(04:14):
defined as negative are going tobe funny and a lot of the
things that we defined aspositive are going to be funny.
Jana Shelfer (04:21):
You know, wayne
Dyer wrote a whole book about
your intention, and yourintention is really what matters
, because it is there's a directconnection of what your
intention is to how you show up,and it shows up in your body
(04:41):
language, it shows up in the wayyour muscles, your energy, just
your whole demeanor yourphysiology, your micro
expressions?
Jason Shelfer (04:51):
Yes, and that's
one thing that you don't get
really to choose is your microexpressions, but
subconsciouslyly, the peoplearound you are going to pick up
on it.
Jana Shelfer (05:00):
And if I go in and
choose to just connect and
laugh, then my reticularactivating system is going to
look for reasons of why thingsare funny and how I can connect.
Jason Shelfer (05:17):
Yeah, that's.
That's really big.
It reminds me of a.
I hope I don't derail theconversation.
Jana Shelfer (05:22):
Okay, go ahead.
Jason Shelfer (05:22):
It reminds me of
a conversation last night,
because some friends that I wasmeeting with are moving to
Seattle.
Jana Shelfer (05:28):
Okay.
Jason Shelfer (05:28):
And they're super
nervous and I said you're going
to find whatever you're lookingfor, so set your intention on
what you want to find.
Jana Shelfer (05:36):
That's so good.
Jason Shelfer (05:37):
And it's a
because we can say I'm nervous,
I'm scared, I'm like the what ifall these negative things
happen?
Or what if I don't find theright crowd, the right friends,
all these things?
But if you set your intentionon, I'm like I am still me.
Jana Shelfer (05:54):
Yes.
Jason Shelfer (05:55):
And I'm going to
find the good in everything.
I'm going to look for thethings that I want, not the
things that I don't want.
You're going to find thosethings because you set your
intention on looking for thoseand they will stand out more.
Jana Shelfer (06:09):
You know.
It's funny that you bring thatup because I mentioned Wayne
Dyer earlier.
In this book about intention heuses the example of when people
say, oh, I've been to theMidwest, people are great there.
Jason Shelfer (06:23):
You know what I'm
saying.
Jana Shelfer (06:24):
And oh, I'm moving
to Washington DC.
And then they ask how are thepeople there?
And Wayne Dyer would answerwell, how are the people where
you live now?
Because it has more to do withwho you are and what you're
looking for are the people whereyou live now, because it has
more to do with you and yourintention, who you are and what
you're looking for in the peoplearound you?
Jason Shelfer (06:43):
Yes, and so you
will get to this new place.
And if you are the kind ofperson that believes everyone is
good, Then you're going toattract those people, then you
will find those people and youwill see the good in everybody.
But if you are the person thatsays you know what this person's
out to get me, people in thethey're rude.
In the Northwest are cold anddistant, or people in New York
(07:05):
are loud and obnoxious.
If you have those labelsStereotypes, those beliefs, then
you will look for that to betrue.
It's a self-fulfilling prophecy, yes, so intention is huge.
Jana Shelfer (07:19):
You know, I
couldn't sleep two nights ago so
I got up in the middle of thenight and I was watching this
documentary it's called theShark Whisperer which is really
quite fascinating.
Jason Shelfer (07:30):
One of the things
that I love.
I'm just going to pause rightthere because I love that when
you wake up in the middle of thenight-.
Jana Shelfer (07:35):
I do like homework
stuff you either read you
meditate or you watch adocumentary.
I know I do things.
You're not watching crap thatare really, really quite
productive.
To be honest with you, In fact,I think sometimes it's my most
productive hours.
Jason Shelfer (07:50):
That's one of my,
one of my favorite things.
Yeah, Just just so we all know, like I don't tell, you that,
but I wanted to put that outthere.
Jana Shelfer (07:56):
Well, I was
watching this shark documentary
about this girl named OceanRamsey and she swims with the
sharks, which is really, reallytrailblazing in so many ways,
and one thing that she said iswhen she goes underwater she is
very clear about her intention, and her intention will reflect
(08:22):
in her muscles, her, her bones, her body language and how she
reacts.
So when a shark comes towardher, which most people get, into
fight or flight.
Jason Shelfer (08:37):
So the shark
comes at you.
Its mouth is two and a halffeet wide, full of teeth.
Jana Shelfer (08:42):
Yes.
Jason Shelfer (08:42):
Looks like death
and destruction.
Looks like a grinder.
Jana Shelfer (08:45):
She focuses and
gets extremely clear on her
intention, which is to form aconnection with these sharks, to
learn their language, andthat's one of her secrets of how
she swims with these greatwhites, these tiger sharks,
(09:05):
these animals that most peopleconsider predators.
Jason Shelfer (09:09):
Well, they are.
They are an apex predator.
I mean these sharks that she'sswimming with, and it's one of
those things again where energyis contagious.
There is this we know that ifwe are giving off this frenetic
energy, if we're giving off thisdesperation energy, that people
or things are going to respondwith that, in a certain way and
(09:32):
she's giving off her claim Ican't get into her body, but her
claim is that her intention is.
She's set her intention sodeeply and clearly that it's to
connect, it's to understand andit's to basically build that
communication table between thetwo.
Jana Shelfer (09:53):
Yeah.
Jason Shelfer (09:55):
And it's very
peaceful, like even just because
I got to watch 20, 30 minutesof it this morning and I felt at
ease, where typically I wouldfeel when I'm watching something
like that.
I was like, oh crap, it wasalmost meditating watching, it,
wasn't it?
Yeah, when I'm watchingsomething, like that.
Jana Shelfer (10:10):
I was like, oh
crap, here it comes.
It was almost meditatingwatching, it, wasn't it?
It was, yeah, I mean, Iseriously.
It was in the middle of thenight and I started watching it
and I was mesmerized.
And then my eyes startedgetting sleepy again and I was
like no, no, no, I got to watchthis.
Jason Shelfer (10:19):
You're getting
sleepy.
Jana Shelfer (10:21):
I know it was so
fascinating Ocean Ramsey, it's
the shark whisperer.
So again, I just want to recapwe're focusing on intention.
Jason Shelfer (10:31):
Yes.
Jana Shelfer (10:32):
Intention and
throughout your day.
I know that in one of our pastpodcasts, jason talked about
chunking down your day, but Ithink if you can chunk down your
day and reset your intention,Very big.
Maybe even in the micro moments, very big maybe even in the
(10:53):
micro moments.
You know, sometimes we get inour car and we just let the
traffic dictate us.
But if we get in our car andget in the habit of starting our
car and saying you know what,I'm going to take a minute to
just set my intention.
My intention is to get whereI'm going safely and to share
the road and to know that otherpeople are going through their
things today.
So I'm going to have compassionfor them and it just changes
(11:18):
the energy right.
Jason Shelfer (11:20):
Yes, so so much.
And I love that you brought itback to a previous podcast about
the day segmentation, becausewhen we set our intention, we
can always come back any moment, any moment, and reset and get
clearer on our intention.
Jana Shelfer (11:37):
Yes.
Jason Shelfer (11:37):
So when we
realize that we're out of
intention and our attention isgoing somewhere else, we can
always reset, come back to itand say, okay, what is my
intention?
How can I get closer to that?
Jana Shelfer (11:50):
Okay, say your
quote one last time Attention
towards your intention, yeah.
Jason Shelfer (11:54):
Put your
attention on your intention and
your attention will follow yourintention, because if you're
crystal clear about yourintention, your muscles and your
body and your mind willcontinue in that direction.
Jana Shelfer (12:07):
I feel like
there's a tongue twister there.
We just have to figure that out.
Thank you for joining us.
Jason Shelfer (12:13):
