Jana Shelfer (00:00):
Are you ready to
create a life you crave?
Let's spin that doom loop ofnegativity into an upward
success cycle and start LivingLucky®.
Jason Shelfer (00:14):
Good morning.
Jana Shelfer (00:15):
I'm Jana, I'm
Jason and we are Living Lucky®.
You are too.
We've been talking about the itfactor.
Jason Shelfer (00:23):
Ooh, I like the
it factor.
Jana Shelfer (00:25):
You know those
people that you just go into a
room and you say they've gotthat something.
Jason Shelfer (00:31):
They've got it.
They've got that.
Jana Shelfer (00:33):
What is it?
Jason Shelfer (00:34):
though.
What is it?
It's that energy, it's thatconfidence, it's that energy
that brings you to them.
Jana Shelfer (00:43):
It's that energy
that brings you to them.
Okay, so, if you haven't heard,I am lucky enough to be in the
2025 class of Hall of Famersthat will be inducted into the
Olympic Paralympic Hall of Famein July.
(01:03):
That's a big deal.
I am super excited.
I am so nervous about what towear.
I have no idea, and Jason and Iwere talking about it, and the
class consists of SerenaWilliams, who has the it factor.
Jason Shelfer (01:20):
She does have the
it factor Right.
Jana Shelfer (01:21):
She goes into any
room, any stadium and you
automatically go.
Who is?
Jason Shelfer (01:27):
that there's a
commercial.
I think it's a Nissancommercial.
I don't know the commercialbecause Serena Williams is such
a pivotal point of thecommercial.
But she does a mic drop andthat mic drop is kind of the it
factor.
It's like I'm Serena Williams, just drop the mic.
Jana Shelfer (01:43):
You don't even
need to say anything.
Yeah, it's one of those things.
It's like I'm Serena Williams, just drop the mic, just, you
don't even need to say anything.
Jason Shelfer (01:45):
Yeah, it's one of
those things.
It's that exclamation point onwho you are.
Jana Shelfer (01:51):
That's who I am.
That's who this is who I am.
Jason Shelfer (01:54):
It's pretty
incredible.
I got goosebumps because I feellike that is what some of us
feel, like we may or may not bemissing, Like how do I get?
The question behind the curtainthat some of us have in our
subconscious minds is how do Iget the it factor?
Jana Shelfer (02:13):
I think you either
have it or you don't.
I think it can be developed.
Jason Shelfer (02:16):
also you do yes.
Jana Shelfer (02:18):
Is it, by the way
you feel?
Jason Shelfer (02:20):
It is you think.
So I believe it's by the wayyou feel and what some of those
beliefs are, some of theconversation that you're having
in your head behind the curtain, and when you step into your own
power and your own like anempowering truth, you get to
actually take those stepsforward into life, like and show
(02:42):
up with that kind of energythat it energy.
Jana Shelfer (02:46):
I mean there's
going to be other people there.
Almost everyone at this, atthis induction ceremony, has the
it factor.
There's going to be carriewalsh.
She's got the it factor rightthere's going to be gabby
douglas.
Jason Shelfer (03:00):
she's got the it
factor A little bouncy flippy it
factor.
Jana Shelfer (03:06):
I think it's more
than bouncy Jana.
Shelfer it factor.
I'm worried about what I'mgoing to wear.
I'm like, oh gosh.
Jason Shelfer (03:14):
And I don't think
you need to.
I think your accomplishmentsspeak for themselves.
Jana Shelfer (03:19):
That you can just
show up and you could.
Jason Shelfer (03:22):
You could be Post
Malone show up with tattoos all
over your face and be likeOlympic Hall of Fame People.
You're not like that.
Jana Shelfer (03:32):
And that's, and
it's the I don't know if that
would make my dad proud.
That's always been my barometer.
Is this going to make my dadproud?
Jason Shelfer (03:39):
Yeah, and that's
not you Like, that is a Post
Malone thing, but and PostMalone has the it factor Like
there's-.
Jana Shelfer (03:47):
So okay, let's
dissect this.
What is, I think, is when youare just so much being your
authentic self and you are justin the present moment, loving
who you are and what you'redoing, there's also a passion.
Jason Shelfer (04:06):
Yeah, that comes
out and it's a, and that's that
confidence of of the moment, oflike I this, I'm here, I'm here
to do this, I'm loving what I'mdoing and this is me.
Jana Shelfer (04:16):
There's a dip
there, okay, so there's a
slightly different because hereI come there's a slightly
different it factor.
So, like simone biles, she'sgot this it factor, that is.
Jason Shelfer (04:26):
That is fierce
right, yes, fierce even though
she's nodding my head like eventhough she's smiley and
optimistic.
Jana Shelfer (04:34):
She still has this
fierce.
You know like you look at herand you're like Whoa yeah, kind
of like the.
Serena Williams.
She kind of has that, that, that almost intimidation.
Like I am, serena Williams, right, like I am unstoppable,
that is Serena Williams williams.
(04:57):
Right, like I am unstoppable, that is serena williams.
Jason Shelfer (04:59):
And yet then you
look at, let's say, olivia
newton john, who has the itfactor, yet it's a little
different or celine dion oh yes, celine dion has the effect, but
it's in like uh, I mean, I meanshe sings these notes and she
sings about love, and it justhits this frequency that we all
(05:22):
feel so they know that they aregood at what they do, so they
know that they are, they excelin their element and they carry
that into all areas of theirlife.
So when?
Because all these people thatyou mentioned, if you just watch
them walking through thesupermarket or walk, watch them
walking through a, a store thatthey're shopping in, you'd be,
(05:46):
you would see them and go,they've got something.
Even if you didn't know whothey were, you'd be like that
person has, has something, theyhave the it factor and you're
like what is it Like?
If you didn't know Olivia NewtonJohn was a superstar?
If you didn't know SerenaWilliams was a tennis player,
that confidence that they walkaround with that energy that
(06:07):
they, that energetic aura thatthey put out, you know, as a
bystander, they've got it.
And that is, I think, somethingthat we can create through our
feelings, because we, I think wecan create our energy, we can
transmute our own energy.
Jana Shelfer (06:27):
I think it's how
they feel.
Jason Shelfer (06:29):
Yeah.
Jana Shelfer (06:30):
I really believe
that that is the secret.
You know, long ago, when I wasin my 20s, I took these classes
from Lisa Maley was her name.
Jason Shelfer (06:45):
Oh, Lisa Maley.
Jana Shelfer (06:46):
They were about
interviewing and they were like
finishing school classes.
Do you know what I'm?
Jason Shelfer (06:53):
saying that's why
you're so polished.
Jana Shelfer (06:54):
Yeah, they were
about pageantry and you know,
learning how to be on stage andpresent yourself, those kinds of
things.
I loved that kind of stuff andso I enrolled in her school and
I was just taking classes towork on myself.
And one thing she said we had aspecial speaker come in and she
(07:14):
was talking about confidenceand feeling sexy, and what this
woman said I will never forget.
She said when you're alone in aroom with a man, it doesn't
matter what you look like, itdoesn't matter what, what you
(07:36):
say, what you do, how you act.
It's how you feel.
It is how you feel, and if youfeel sexy, they automatically
can feel that.
Jason Shelfer (07:50):
And that's not
just for women, right, and
that's not just for the sexappeal, that is for anything.
If you feel confident, confident, people can feel that.
If you feel nervous, scared, people feel that.
If you feel greedy, people feelthat, yes.
(08:11):
If you feel desperate, who'sheard that?
Desperation is disgusting, likethat is, and people feel the
ick factor from desperation.
Jana Shelfer (08:21):
I also, though,
sometimes think that desperation
can be a motivator.
Jason Shelfer (08:24):
It can be,
however, when you you can feel
desperation, but you have totransmute that when you show up
places, that's true.
Jana Shelfer (08:32):
That is true.
Yeah, if you show up in theicky desperation, people go ew
get away.
Jason Shelfer (08:40):
And that's where,
like if you have a coach, your
coach helps you.
It's a repellent.
Yes, your coach will help yourecognize where your desperation
is showing up and say, okay, how do we show up differently so
that you can get thosedifferent results?
Because that energy is going torub off on people and repel.
So for you, who has the itfactor that you've always
(09:04):
admired, I've run across peopleoften Like one of the things is
like the characters Jon Hammplays on television.
Yeah, you like that, he's gotswagger Mad Men.
Yeah, he's got swagger, heshows up and he gets things done
.
Tom Cruise plays a lot ofcharacters that Risky business,
right, got swagger mad men.
Yeah, he's got swagger, heshows up and he gets things done
.
Uh, tom cruise plays a lot ofcharacters that risky business,
(09:25):
right, like.
And he has these times wherehe's like, he's unsure or like
and like how's this?
show me the money right he getsdown, but then he's like I know
I can get this, I'm gonna get it, and he gets this confidence
back and I get like those arepeople that I can see things
through with this.
(09:45):
I mean, and there's MichaelJordan, I think had something
that I was like and it was hisdiscipline and confidence and
like the way he just keptshowing up on the court.
Jana Shelfer (09:57):
No, he had
something in him that you just
knew.
Jason Shelfer (10:02):
he knew he was
the best player on the court and
even if he wasn't, he could belike if there was a type he knew
inside him was the best playerand that he was going to find
that person, find that playerand get there by the end of the
game.
Jana Shelfer (10:16):
Yeah, and, and we
all believed that because he
believed it yes, so there wassomething.
Are contagious yes, and therewas something that came out in
the stadium when you would watchhim play, or even on television
when you would watch him play,it was like, yeah, get him the
(10:37):
ball.
We all, we all were like gethim the ball.
Jason Shelfer (10:40):
Even if you just
watch an interview with him.
There's that confidence, there's that energy, that
feeling, and that feeling wentthrough the airwaves.
That's the it factor.
When that feeling goes throughthe airwaves, you don't have to
be in the same room withsomebody.
It's like I get it.
I feel that I want to be in thesame room with somebody.
It's like I get it.
(11:00):
I feel that I want to be a partof that.
That makes me want to go to agame and be closer to it yeah, I
I feel like some people have, Imean betty white.
Jana Shelfer (11:12):
I always felt like
betty white had the it factor
lucille ball in that she couldalways turn the conversation
around to make people smile andlaugh and she could take
situations that we're like, oh,do you know what I'm saying?
But she would always kind ofbring it into a lighthearted
(11:34):
area and she had this confidenceabout her that we all just
Confidence.
It comes down to confidence.
It comes back to confidence.
Jason Shelfer (11:42):
And confidence is
a feeling.
Jana Shelfer (11:44):
Yeah, you're right
.
You know what this podcast, this conversation has really
helped me, because if there isone downfall that I have
struggled with my entire life,it is that voice of doubt.
Jason Shelfer (12:01):
And we all have
that.
Those, all these people thatwe've mentioned have had that
voice of doubt and it's sayingI'm not going to believe that
voice over what I know, becausethat voice is going to come in
and, just like you say, all thetime I've got this inner critic
that wants me to be better.
But I can either believe thatI'm I'm getting better or I can
(12:22):
believe that I'm not enough andthat's that's.
I think that there's a there'sa little weird area in there
that sometimes we can just getsick and tired of the voice,
where we can start believing itand like we are.
Jana Shelfer (12:36):
It's taking that.
It is taking that doubt and, like you said, transmuting that
into how can I be better, howcan I train to get better, how
can I be disciplined to becomemy best self?
Jason Shelfer (12:53):
How am I a little
better today than I was
yesterday?
Jana Shelfer (12:56):
And it's just
turning that dialogue or
monologue inside ourselves.
Jason Shelfer (13:03):
So big.
Jana Shelfer (13:04):
Which is
empowering instead of
disempowering.
Jason Shelfer (13:07):
And recognizing
our growth right, just
recognizing that we are winning, just by getting to the next day
, just by getting to the nextmile marker on our journey in
life, next mile marker on ourjourney in life and it feels
like the people who really havethat energy that aura they have
(13:33):
learned to master that innerbelief.
Jana Shelfer (13:34):
I love it Right.
Yeah, they're Living Lucky®.
