Jana Shelfer (00:00):
Are you ready to
create a life you crave?
Let's spin that doom loop ofnegativity into an upward
success cycle and start LivingLucky®.
Good morning.
I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we areLiving Lucky® you are too.
(00:21):
We had a friend and her familycome ski with us yesterday.
Jason Shelfer (00:26):
Not the whole
family, but a big portion of it.
Jana Shelfer (00:29):
A portion of her
family.
It was.
Jason Shelfer (00:30):
It was a total of
five of them.
Yes.
Jana Shelfer (00:33):
Yeah, it was fun.
I must say, when they left Istarted to examine myself a
little bit.
Don't we love it when we do that?
Yes, I came away so inspired.
You know, when you think thatyou're doing the right things,
(00:54):
like I, seriously I'm like formy age and and for where I'm at
in my life, I I take pretty goodcare of myself.
Jason Shelfer (01:03):
I'm getting it
done, I'm taking care of myself,
I'm eating well, I'm prettyhealthy.
Jana Shelfer (01:08):
That sounds so
conceited, doesn't it?
But, I kind of have thosethoughts sometimes.
Jason Shelfer (01:13):
Well, I think we
have been kind of living into
that.
Jana Shelfer (01:17):
Yes, there was a
time in life where we weren't.
However, yesterday we had myfriend Raquel and her sister
Laurel come over and justwatching those two Laurel is
like the fittest person thatI've seen up close in a long
time yeah, well, she's a fitnessinstructor or fitness coach and
(01:41):
she has, like Laurel's, fitnessboot camp right.
Was that just a joke?
No, that's real.
That's what she does, real.
Jason Shelfer (01:46):
Yeah, okay, I
mean look at her.
I mean no, I know she's like alittle ball of muscle.
Jana Shelfer (01:51):
I know at one
point jason was just joking on
the boat because laurel didn'tknow where to sit and what she
was supposed to be doing andjason said you just go sit and
look fit you just go sit upfront and look fit.
Jason Shelfer (02:05):
That's all you
need to do right now.
I got all this.
This is what I do.
And then even her dad, Chris,Like at the end.
So we've done a whole day ofskiing, moving people around,
getting equipment, all thisstuff.
And he's like I'm going to gofor a little swim.
And I was like, okay, and hewants to do it in a lake.
And I had no idea what hisdefinition of a little swim was,
(02:27):
but he, there was this thingabout wanting to be in the lake.
And he, he went for a swim.
Jana Shelfer (02:34):
He's doing like
what they do.
He's doing like an Iron man, like triathlons, yeah.
Jason Shelfer (02:38):
He's like I'll
see you guys in a couple hours.
Jana Shelfer (02:42):
I'm like where is
Chris going?
He was in the Coast Guard.
Jason Shelfer (02:47):
Like we're going
to have to send a rescue boat
out after him.
Jana Shelfer (02:51):
No, and my friend
Raquel has two kids.
One is 18 months.
And just a little spitfire, hegets around who loves to swim
and just has a ton of energy, and so watching her not only ski
with us, but then take care ofher baby and take care of his
(03:13):
needs, not only feed him andmake sure that you know he's
where he needs to be.
Jason Shelfer (03:19):
Those one-arm
lifts.
Jana Shelfer (03:20):
Right.
I was like, oh my gosh, I needto step up my life.
I literally came away yesterdaythinking, wow, here, I thought
that I was pretty fit.
But then I saw Laurel and I waslike gosh.
Between ski sets she's overthere doing dips and pushups and
(03:42):
Handstands Right.
Like she's literally.
Jason Shelfer (03:44):
Wall pushups.
Jana Shelfer (03:45):
Yeah, let's do a
few pull-ups over here at
lunchtime.
Jason Shelfer (03:49):
Let's get 20
pull-ups in.
Let's do some negatives.
Jana Shelfer (03:51):
Right and I'm
thinking, oh my gosh, I need to
start doing that, like when Ijust have a few minutes.
Jason Shelfer (03:56):
So there was a
beautiful energy in having that
new energy and that family'senergy in the house.
I mean even Kai.
So Kai is the older child.
Jana Shelfer (04:07):
Yeah.
Jason Shelfer (04:08):
And her dancing
and excitement for trying new
things, and just all that energylends us to that question of
how might we be more inspiredand how might we piggyback on
that energy that's been broughtinto the house and hold on to it
.
Jana Shelfer (04:26):
Here's the thing
is.
I thought you and I were prettywe were, we're doing it.
I thought we were doing it, butthen I see what they're doing
and their normal is a differentlevel than our normal, and that
is why I feel like we need toconstantly surround ourselves
with different people Differentlevels of normal.
(04:48):
And different circles.
Jason Shelfer (04:49):
Yeah, different
and higher levels of normal
Right yeah.
Jana Shelfer (04:53):
Because when we
just surround ourselves with
couples who are our age, thatmakes us sound old.
But seriously, for when wesurround ourselves with couples
who are our age, I'm like, yeah,we got dance lessons today and
then we're going to go outskiing and and they, yeah, and
they're always like oh my goshhow do you do all that you do
(05:16):
how?
Do you do it all and we'realways like the ones.
Well, hey, this is what we loveto do.
Jason Shelfer (05:21):
And so even I
think and Raquel would say, how
do we do the things that we do?
Like she probably looks at ourtravel schedule, our activity
schedule and those types ofthings and says how do you
manage all that?
But what it lends itself to issaying, hey, where can we be
more inspired in different areasand say, where do we get some
(05:45):
of that fun energy and just kindof just sprinkle that in as an
extra little spice for whatwe've got going on.
Jana Shelfer (05:51):
I mean, I'm
telling you.
So, raquel, first of all, I seea lot of myself in Raquel, but
she's maybe 15, 20 yearsdifference.
Maybe not 20.
15.
Let's not stretch it too much.
Let's call it 10 to 15.
Jason Shelfer (06:11):
10 to 15.
Jana Shelfer (06:12):
She's younger than
I am, and so I do see, like
maybe a vitality that I havemaybe let go dormant inside
myself, and so, being around her, I'm like gosh, I'm gonna I'm
gonna get it back I remember her.
(06:33):
I remember that, I remember thatjanna and I'm gonna get that
back.
I can feel that, yes.
And then her, her youngersister, laurel, that was here
and watching her and how fit shewas.
And then her curiosity oftrying new things.
Like she was tryingwakeboarding with jason's
(06:53):
wakeboard, she was trying slalomskiing with jason's slalom yeah
, so these are the boot fittingsfor my slalom, which I'm a size
12 and she's like a sizeflintstone.
Jason Shelfer (07:05):
She's like a size
eight and a half, maybe on her
foot yes, um.
Jana Shelfer (07:09):
So she was making
it work.
She was, she was adapting liketim gunn.
Make it work because she waslike I want to do this, I have
the opportunity I'm going to dothis I am gonna make the best of
this and she was out thererunning the course not only the
course, but she did it like 10times, not four, not five.
She was like, let's do it again, let's do it again.
Jason Shelfer (07:32):
And she didn't
let not being able to get up on
our first couple of tries deterher from doing it.
Yeah, which is a lot of peoplewill try something once and
think, oh, I can't do this, oh,this is hard, this isn't for me,
and if you've ever triedgetting up behind a slalom, that
(07:52):
first try is not an easy thing.
Jana Shelfer (07:55):
Yeah.
Jason Shelfer (07:56):
But it's like,
hey, I've seen that it's
possible, so I can do this.
Yes, and recognizing if it'spossible for anyone in the world
, it's possible for everyone.
Jana Shelfer (08:05):
No, she.
When I saw her, what I, what Ireally saw, was this little
voice inside her that saw thechallenge and the adventure and
the possibility as the fun part.
Yeah, kind of the joy Like thisis going to be a fun mountain
to climb, yeah, and, and eventhe workout mountain to climb.
Yeah, and even the workout.
Jason Shelfer (08:28):
like that's
what's fun, the harder the
workout the more fun it is, likethere's a connection there.
Jana Shelfer (08:41):
Well, I think
that's that second level joy or
second level fun which we'vetalked about that before.
Jason Shelfer (08:44):
So it's like you
can have the fun in the moment
or you can have that fun thatcomes from achieving the longer
term goal.
Jana Shelfer (08:51):
Yeah, and then
with her sister Raquel, who has
the two kids.
I was thinking to myself likeas I literally when we said
goodbye to them at 6.30.
Jason Shelfer (09:05):
Yeah.
Jana Shelfer (09:05):
Yes, jason went to
the grocery store immediately
to get us dinner Steaks and Iwas getting ready for bed.
I was brushing my teeth, washing my face, putting on my
pajamas.
I literally was in bed when yougot home and I was sitting
there going, oh my gosh, I don'tknow Like if I had kids, I
(09:27):
don't know if I would bathe them, do?
Jason Shelfer (09:31):
you know what I'm
saying?
Somebody take these thingsright.
And then I I mean I know youwould because, because that
would be your normal well, yeah, and I think so a lot of times
we get in these situations andwe and we look at someone else
and say I don't know that Icould, but but we always we're,
we are resilient and we, wealways find a way.
(09:52):
You rise to the level and theone area in life where sometimes
we let that uh, um, find a wayslip away is in our dreams, like
in the things that we reallywant for our lives, and that's
where regret comes in, becausewe like when, when it's
something that is like hey, thisis something that's in front of
(10:14):
me right now, I've got to getdone a dream.
Oftentimes we can put it on thecalendar and then we can say
someday or one day, and then wejust keep pushing it back.
Jana Shelfer (10:24):
Okay, so let's
button this up in a nice tidy
package.
What exactly are you trying tosay?
Because I feel like you made ahuge leap there.
I did take a huge leap there.
I'm not quite sure what you'regetting at.
Jason Shelfer (10:34):
I think the main
point of this podcast is is
recognize the energy that otherpeople can bring into your life
and then also recognize.
Ask yourself, how might I bemore inspired in other areas of
my life and add some extra funand joy spice to my life?
Jana Shelfer (10:47):
Yeah, because we
can learn from everyone that
crosses our path.
Jason Shelfer (10:52):
Yes.
Jana Shelfer (10:52):
I learned from the
18 month old baby Vaughn that
came.
I also learned from Kai thatwas here.
I realized that there literallyis a 12-year-old girl inside me
that loves to do hand jives andsecret handshakes.
I love to do that kind of thing, and so just having her here
(11:13):
that was fun.
Jason Shelfer (11:14):
Yeah, everybody.
Like you said, we can learnfrom everybody.
And it's like just pick thosewonderful fun things that excite
you and bring you that joy andsay, where might I sprinkle some
of this into my day?
Jana Shelfer (11:34):
I need to raise my
standards for myself.
That's what I came away with.
Jason Shelfer (11:40):
Awesome, let's do
it.
Let's do it together.
