Jana Shelfer (00:00):
Are you ready to
create a life you crave?
Let's spin that doom loop ofnegativity into an upward
success cycle and start LivingLucky®.
Good morning.
I'm Jana, I'm Jason and we areLiving Lucky®.
You are, too.
Steve Jobs is quoted as sayingthe best six doctors in the
(00:26):
world not that we want doctors, but the best six doctors in the
world are sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence
and friends.
I feel like this is very wise.
Jason Shelfer (00:43):
It's pretty
impactful when you think about
it.
Jana Shelfer (00:46):
I think the older
I get, the more I agree with him
.
Jason Shelfer (00:49):
Yeah, and it's
weird because, even without the
quote over the last 10 years, alot of this are things that we
have kind of found throughexperimentation experimentation,
and if we would have justlistened to him or read his book
, it would have exponentiallyput us ahead of the game.
(01:10):
Yeah, it just moved us forward.
No, we had to learn it on ourown, and that's one of the
beauties of reading.
I love the fact that we'vepicked up reading these books
and autobiographies because itgives us the life lessons of
some of these people that havehad extraordinary lives in a
compact four-hour,four-five-hour version, and
(01:33):
sunlight, just getting out thereand walking around the pond
every morning.
Jana Shelfer (01:37):
Do you know how
many times, like when I was
suffering, I was in a dark place.
I went through a really darktime, and when I was going
through that time, the lastthing I wanted to do was go
outside.
Jason Shelfer (01:50):
Yeah, you want to
bask in the darkness.
Jana Shelfer (01:52):
And I even
remember your mom came to stay
with us for a short time and shewas, like you need to get
outside, get some of thatvitamin D.
You just need to go sit in thesun, get some of that vitamin D,
you just need to go sit in thesun.
And isn't that funny how now weski and we're out in the sun a
lot, almost to the point whereI'm like, oh my gosh, I'm
starting to premature age here, you got to get some umbrellas.
(02:16):
I got to protect my skin Alittle too much vitamin D.
Jason Shelfer (02:19):
No.
Jana Shelfer (02:19):
I don't even know
if that's possible, but sunlight
does help your mood.
Jason Shelfer (02:24):
And there's an
energy to it.
It's a it's.
Plants need light to grow.
We need light to grow.
Jana Shelfer (02:30):
Oh my gosh, that
is so simple.
Jason Shelfer (02:33):
We're not
photosynthesizing things.
I'm not a scientist, but I'massuming that we're not using
photosynthesis for anything butthat light is a nourishing
factor.
Jana Shelfer (02:41):
Maybe I'm not a
scientist, but that light is a
nourishing factor?
Jason Shelfer (02:43):
I think we are,
though Maybe.
Jana Shelfer (02:44):
I'm not a
scientist, I'm not going to
claim it.
I think going outside and justbeing in the sun, I think it
helps not only our cells, ourskin, vitamin D, like you said,
but it just- 100% it gives usit's a life Force.
Jason Shelfer (02:56):
It's a life force
.
Jana Shelfer (02:58):
Yes, 100%, it is a
life force.
Jason Shelfer (03:06):
Okay, let's go
through the next one, rest.
We've talked about thismultiple times in our podcast.
Jana Shelfer (03:09):
Because I feel
guilty resting, yes, and I do
know that this month especially,or this past month June, the
month of June for us we spent alot of time on the couch because
we were tired, we were just.
It was like our bodies.
We were going going, going, going going and then our bodies
were like, okay, it's time torest.
(03:31):
And for some reason, when Itried to rest purposefully, I
start feeling it's guilt andit's this oh my gosh, I'm
wasting.
I'm wasting my life and I havethings to do.
Jason Shelfer (03:46):
I'm wasting my
potential and we talked about
this on our live chat with thecommunity that we accomplished
so many things in the first sixmonths of this year and
sometimes we need to look atthat and go.
You know what I need to givemyself that permission to rest.
Rest is so important Restrecovery, giving that
(04:07):
authorization to recharge, togive myself the time to recoup
the energy.
Jana Shelfer (04:12):
You're so correct.
I mean, think of an athlete.
And when they just train, train, train, train train, that's
when they start getting injuries.
It's because they need thattime to just recharge.
Jason Shelfer (04:26):
And it also gives
your mind a chance to practice,
perfectly Like when you'regoing through motions all the
time.
Sometimes you can just allowyourself your body and mind to
rest, but you can gently gothrough things in your mind
without the pressure of it anddo it perfectly.
All right.
Number three Exercise, and itdoesn't have to be vigorous.
Jana Shelfer (04:49):
How many times
have we been told in our life
Exercise it does the body good,Right.
Jason Shelfer (04:57):
You sound like a
Saturday morning commercial, it
not?
Jana Shelfer (04:58):
only does the body
good, but it does your mind,
your soul, your.
Jason Shelfer (05:03):
Relationships.
Jana Shelfer (05:04):
Vitality Energy
levels.
Jason Shelfer (05:07):
We talked about
this in our Miracle Morning
podcast.
Just 10 minutes can be all youneed.
It doesn't have to be vigorous,it doesn't have to be six hours
in the gym, I know.
Jana Shelfer (05:18):
But for some
reason, we do that.
We're like, oh my God, I got tostart a workout routine today
and we start by going to the gymfor an hour.
Jason Shelfer (05:26):
Yeah, because we
want results immediately and
then tomorrow that hour justfeels.
Jana Shelfer (05:32):
That feels like
too big of a climb.
Do you know what I'm saying?
That used to be me.
Jason Shelfer (05:37):
I would go to
Tony Robbins.
I would go to Tony Robbins'conference and I'd be like, oh,
I got to get the full body gym,I got to get the supplements, I
got to get the protein shakes.
And I would come back and I'dbe like, all right, I'm going to
start my workout routine.
I'm going to do two hours a day.
I'll do an hour in the morning,an hour in the evening, and I
would just blow myself up likeexhaustion, exhaustion wise, not
(05:58):
not muscle wise, but exhaustionwise, and I would be done in
like four weeks.
Jana Shelfer (06:04):
And even if you do
it for four weeks, which I
don't think you did and I didn'tget the results.
I don't even think you made itthat long.
But if you do it for four weeks, then you've changed so many
things that you don't know whatthat one Right.
Jason Shelfer (06:19):
I don't know
what's working and I've blown my
ecosystem out of the water LikeI've blown everything in my
life out of the water, and Ihave no idea what that one thing
is that's working, butincremental improvements, just a
little bit of exercise everyday would have been gold Number
four, which this is a no-braineras well.
Diet, diet we are what we eat.
(06:41):
Just eat your food as medicine,so that you don't have to eat
your medicine as food.
Jana Shelfer (06:45):
Okay, I know you
didn't make that one up, you
read that.
Jason Shelfer (06:48):
I'm pretty sure
that's another Steve Jobs.
Jana Shelfer (06:53):
That is really
quite brilliant, though, if what
we eat is what we are.
Jason Shelfer (06:57):
Yeah, I mean how
many times did we hear that when
we were younger.
Jana Shelfer (07:00):
You are what you
eat.
Jason Shelfer (07:01):
From your head
down to your feet.
Jana Shelfer (07:03):
I never heard that
part.
Jason Shelfer (07:05):
That's the way it
goes.
That's why I'm such a poet, andyou didn't know it, but my feet
show it because they're longfellows.
Jana Shelfer (07:14):
Ah, Jason, you're
full of surprises today.
Okay, so what is number five?
Jason Shelfer (07:19):
Number five is
self-confidence, and I think
that just comes down to lovingourselves and also being
confident in that love.
So it's accepting yourself, like we all want acceptance, but
a lot of times we don't acceptourselves.
We want acceptance fromeveryone else.
Jana Shelfer (07:35):
That is so true.
That is so true.
And number six, friends.
Jason Shelfer (07:40):
Friends Value
time with friends.
Jana Shelfer (07:48):
Now I'm going to
be a little transparent here.
I feel like I have put friendson the back burner in my 40s and
it was a mistake.
I am realizing that it has beena mistake and I've really been
trying to intentionallyreconnect with some people and
to not get back in good graces, cause I never fell out of graces
, I just stopped putting effortinto it.
Jason Shelfer (08:13):
One thing I will
say is that we have invested a
lot of time with each other andI don't regret I don't regret a
single bit of that.
Jana Shelfer (08:20):
Yeah, but it's to
the point where we finish each
other's Sandwiches.
Jason Shelfer (08:27):
Sentences.
Jana Shelfer (08:28):
Oh, and I
sometimes think, though, that
the more people that we can bearound, it will benefit us, I
think we definitely expand ourinner circle, yes, and expand
the layers outside of that innercircle, but it's a it's just so
important.
Okay, I just want to like take aminute to be real, because it's
(08:50):
harder as you get older to makefriends, and I know that that's
a limiting belief, but when Iwas younger it felt so easy to
make friends, and it's not thatpeople don't like me, it's, it's
really me Like.
Sometimes I want people to seethree, fourths of me, but I
(09:14):
don't want them to see that 25%that you know isn't, isn't what
I want to project.
Jason Shelfer (09:21):
Well, it's also.
It's hard for some people toaccept boundaries Like.
It's like when we say I've gotone weekend a month or one night
a month that I can hang out.
Yeah, some people are like Ineed someone.
I want someone that I can hangout with three times a week.
Jana Shelfer (09:41):
They feel like
that might be a slap in the face
.
Right Is what you're saying.
Jason Shelfer (09:44):
And what we're
saying is we really enjoy your
company.
We want to hang out with you alot and a lot.
Our definition of a lot ishanging out once a month.
Jana Shelfer (09:54):
Or once a quarter
Right, let's not over commit.
Jason Shelfer (09:59):
Going out once a
month seems like a stretch for
me.
Jana Shelfer (10:03):
Why is that,
though?
We used to go out all the time.
Jason Shelfer (10:06):
But we do a lot
like we.
We have a lot on our calendarand you say that.
Jana Shelfer (10:11):
But then I look at
what we do and I, for some
reason, my perception is thatwe're not doing enough.
Jason Shelfer (10:18):
Well, look at our
, look at what we just went
through our calendar and markedoff, like all the goals that
we've accomplished.
So we're going.
But the problem is, is we notthe problem?
We've designed our life toaccomplish the things that we
want in our life.
So we're going, getting up at 430 in the morning, we're going
to bed at 7.
I mean, that's a and a lot offriends no, there's people don't
(10:39):
want to go.
Don't want to go to dinner at 430 in the afternoon, right?
Because they're like, oh mygosh, you guys just need to go
to the.
Jana Shelfer (10:46):
Golden Corral.
That's what crew we're in now.
Get that early bird special, that's right.
Jason Shelfer (10:52):
I don't mind
going to the Golden Corral.
Well, I don't want to go eat atthe Golden Corral, but I don't
mind the early bird special.
Jana Shelfer (10:57):
Okay, so Steve
Jobs, we all know him as the CEO
and founder of Apple.
No longer the CEO and founderof Apple, no longer with us.
Apple a day he was a genius.
Keeps the doctors away.
Oh my gosh.
Okay, you're making connectionsthat aren't there.
Jason Shelfer (11:17):
And his quote is
that the six best doctors in the
world are sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-confidence
and friends.
Okay, so just to wrap this upof thoseconfidence and friends.
Jana Shelfer (11:25):
Okay, so just to
wrap this up, of those six,
which one is your favorite?
Jason Shelfer (11:30):
My favorite
self-confidence.
Jana Shelfer (11:36):
I was going to say
the same thing.
I literally think, if you canstep into your self-confidence
and-.
Jason Shelfer (11:42):
I think the rest
will come in with you.
Jana Shelfer (11:45):
Yes, you start
attracting everything that you
want in life and need.
Jason Shelfer (11:50):
I think we've
talked about this for the last
couple of years in the podcastand, like we just talked about
it and building our own prisons, and once you get that
self-confidence, you will bringin the rest of this and you will
start taking care of yourself.
You will start recognizing yoursoul, will take you to the
(12:10):
sunlight, to the rest, to theexercise.
It will have you eating theright thing.
Jana Shelfer (12:14):
But they all kind
of feed off of each other, don't
you think I?
Mean we've gone through periodsin our life where you know we
start eating the wrong things.
Then all of a sudden thataffects your self-confidence.
Am I right?
Or we stop exercising?
Jason Shelfer (12:30):
Or do we eat the
wrong things because we're not
self-confident?
Jana Shelfer (12:33):
See, and it goes
hand in hand, which came first,
the chicken or the egg.
I mean, I could sit here andargue this with you all day
which comes first, the smile orthe joy?
Jason Shelfer (12:42):
Right.
Jana Shelfer (12:43):
Right.
I mean it all feeds off of eachother and how do we just get
curious about this and say whatdo I want more in my life of?
Okay, so to wrap this up, don'tgo to the doctor, go to these
six doctors, that's right.
Read them off.
Jason Shelfer (13:03):
Sunlight, rest,
exercise, diet, self-confidence
and friends.
Jana Shelfer (13:04):
Make sure you're
going to the right friends.
