Paula Behrens (00:01):
Hey friend, summer is officially here
Vacation time, family outings, longer days and, let's be honest
, longer to-do lists.
But here's the truth busynessisn't always fruitfulness.
If we're not intentional, thevery season meant for
refreshment can leave us drained.
That's why today we're talkingabout how life balance for

(00:21):
Christians is not only possiblebut essential.
Let's explore how you can renewyour strength, embrace joy and
live fully this summer withoutburning out.
Are you finding it challengingto maintain your spiritual
practices or yearning for a morepeaceful, God-aligned day?
I'm Paula and I've been theretoo.

(00:43):
Balancing spiritual habits witha busy life can be difficult.
I longed for a deeperconnection with God, but
struggled with consistency.
Then I found the perfectapproach.
If you seek simple ways todeepen your connection with God,
this podcast is for you.
When I first began my seminarywork while serving two church
congregations full-time,everyone assumed I had my daily

(01:06):
devotional time perfectlyorganized.
But, truth be told, there weremornings I could barely find
five minutes to catch my breath, let alone dive into deep
reflection.
One day, as I rushed out thedoor with mismatched shoes, I
realized that even in my chaosthere was a lesson.
Embracing God's grace andself-forgiveness I realized that

(01:27):
true success in my devotionallife requires prioritizing my
spiritual practices.
Friend, have you ever sat downwith your Bible, a cup of tea
and high hopes for a quietmoment with the Lord, only to
find your mind racing with to-dolists, your spirit distracted
and your heart dry?
I remember a season when myspiritual life felt more like a

(01:48):
checklist than a connection.
I had a book of prayers, aseminary degree and even my
favorite kneeling rail in myoffice, but, truthfully, I was
just going through the motions.
I was hungry for more, morepeace, more presence, more of
God.
I was showing up with all theright tools, but none of the
soul-satisfying stillness Icraved.

(02:09):
My time with God becamesomething I did, not something I
delighted in.
I craved intimacy with God, butI didn't know how to break out
of that cycle of routinespirituality.
Then the Lord gently remindedme, he never asked me for
polished prayers or perfectdiscipline.
He just wanted my presence.
From that moment on, I begancreating space to simply be with

(02:33):
him.
I built a new rhythm, a newroutine, one that was deeply
rooted in grace, filled withscripture and supported by the
soothing presence of hiscreation, including essential
oils that help me slow down andbreathe deeply.
That sacred rhythm is what Inow share in the Aroma of Christ
Coaching Hour.

(02:54):

All right, it's time to getstarted.
Grab your Bible, dust off yourjournal and cozy up to your
favorite beverage and let's divein.
Today we're diving intosomething that every Christian
woman needs to know about, especially in the fast-paced
season of summer.
We're talking about lifebalance, what it looks like, why

(05:11):
it matters and how you cancultivate it using biblical
truth and simple daily rhythms.
Let's begin here.
Life balance for Christiansisn't a luxury.
It's a biblical necessity.
We live in a culture thatpraises hustle, but in God's
kingdom, peace is the reward, not burnout.
Jesus didn't live a franticlife, and he's not calling us to
one either.
Jesus calls us to, come to me,all you who are weary and

(05:36):
carrying heavy burdens, and Iwill give you rest.
Jesus offers rest not justsleep, not just naps soul level
rest, rest that comes from abalanced life where your mind,
body and spirit are aligned withGod's purpose and peace.
Many Christian women carrysilent burdens: the pressure to

(05:57):
do everything, the guilt when wecan't, the fear of missing out,
the anxiety of falling behind.
But here's the truth.
You are not your productivity.
Your worth is not defined byyour checklists, your kids'
achievements or your volunteerhours.
Balance begins when you let Godredefine your value by his word

(06:19):
, not by the world.
Let's take a deeper look at ouranchor verse for today Isaiah 40

, verse 31 (06:25):
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their
strength.
They will soar on wings likeeagles.
They will run and not growweary.
They will walk and not be faint.
This verse is often quoted, butlet's look at what it teaches
us about living in balance.
The prophet Isaiah tells us tohope in the Lord.

(06:47):
Your emotional balance startswith spiritual focus.
When we center our lives onChrist, our inner world becomes
less reactive and more resilient.
He then says that we will enjoya renewed strength.
Renewal implies rhythm.
Strength doesn't come fromnon-stop motion.
It comes from sacred pauses.

(07:07):
Soar, run, walk, Isaiah pointsout that God gives us the grace
for every pace.
Some days we soar, some days werun and others we simply walk.
Balance means embracing eachpace without guilt.
This scripture passage isn'tjust a poetic promise.
It's a daily invitation to livebalanced by trusting the One

(07:30):
who sustains us.
Anchored firmly in the promisesof God, we'll see an invitation
to lean on his strength, livingfrom a place of rhythm and
overflow instead of exhaustionand imbalance.
Let's start with some hardtruths about balance and summer.
For many of us, summer isn'tthe restful oasis we hoped it

(07:51):
would be.
Instead, it's often the seasonwhere our carefully planned
routines fall apart.
Schedules go out the window, church attendance changes and
the healthy habits we builtpreviously fall by the wayside.
Suddenly, time carved out forGod becomes more difficult to
find.
Our emotional, physical andspiritual energy drains away in

(08:12):
small, sneaky ways.
A skipped devotional here, afast food dinner there, more
screen time than prayer time.
Before we know it, we'rerunning on empty, trying to
smile through it all, feelingworn out and disconnected from
the One who created the seasons.
This imbalance creeps upquietly, but it has consequences

(08:33):
.
We weren't meant to livewithout a sound routine.
God designed us to flourishwithin cycles of rest,
reflection, work and worship.
The Bible reminds us, foreverything there is a season, a
time for every activity underthe sun.
Our challenge is to discoverhow to keep that rhythm alive

(08:54):
year-round, including summer, not by adding more to our plates
, but by realigning what mattersmost.
Before we dive into solutions, let's identify a few red flags
that indicate imbalance might becreeping into your life.
One, you feel constantlyoverwhelmed, even by small tasks
.
Two, you rarely rest withoutfeeling guilty.

(09:17):
Three, your spiritual lifefeels dry or rushed.
Four, your relationships arestrained because you're
stretched too thin.
Five, you wake up tired and goto bed anxious.
Friend, if even one of thosehits close to home, please hear

this (09:34):
you are not failing, you're just out of rhythm, and
rhythms can be reset.
Let's walk through a simple yetpowerful rhythm you can use
every day morning, midday andevening.
This framework is not anotherburden.
It's a gift to help you livewell this summer.

(09:55):
So, before the house stirs, before your phone lights up,
before coffee even reaches yourlips, choose stillness.
Why?
Because the world will startshouting the moment your feet
hit the floor.
But in the quiet, God whispers.
Here's what to do.
Read Isaiah 40, verse 31.

(10:15):
Reflect on this verse, askingyourself, where do I need
renewal today?

Then say a simple prayer (10:21):
God, I trust you to carry me today.
Be my strength where I'm weak.
And then journal a shortaffirmation like: I don't need
to do it all.
I just need to stay in stepwith the One who does.

(10:43):
This five-minute devotionalmoment isn't about checking a
box.
It's about anchoring your soulbefore the day pulls at it.

Bonus tip (10:47):
keep your Bible in journal on your nightstand.
Make it easy to reach for theword before the world.
Okay, so midday is where lifegets messy.
Kids need things.
Deadlines loom your energy dips.
That's the perfect time for asacred pause.
Here's how you can create amidday refresh ritual.
Step away for five to tenminutes.

(11:09):
Apply a drop of Raven essentialoil to the back of your neck.
It'll provide a physicalcooling sensation.
Drink a full glass of coolwater, breathe deeply and repeat
Isaiah 40, verse 31, out loud.

Then ask (11:23):
Am I staying centered or am I striving in my own
strength?
This moment isn't indulgent.
It's essential.
It's a reminder that your pacematters.
You don't need to crash torealize you're overcommitted.
Here's a spiritual reminder.
Jesus withdrew from crowds,often.

(11:45):
You can too.
How you end your day shapes howyou enter the next.
In the evening resist the urgeto collapse into Netflix or
scroll until sleep.
Instead, try this rhythm ofreflection.
Diffuse a calming oil likelavender.
Sit quietly with a notebook orjournal.
Reflect, what gave me lifetoday?

(12:07):
Where did I notice God at work?
What drained me that I need torelease?

Then pray (12:13):
Thank you for today, Lord.
Help me rest in you, knowingthat your grace fills the gaps.
This isn't performance.
It's a release.
Lay it all down before the Lord.
Trust God to carry the rest.
And here's something powerful.
Over time, these reflectionsbecome a testimony.

(12:35):
You'll look back and see howGod sustained you, healed you
and held you together in seasonswhen balance seemed impossible.
Let's get even more practical.
If you're serious aboutcultivating life balance, here
are some real-world actions youcan take.
Set healthy boundaries.
Say no without explaining.
Don't check work emails after 7pm.

(12:58):
Protect your Sabbath rest, evenif it's just Sunday afternoons.
Simplify your yeses.
Ask yourself is this alignedwith my priorities or is it just
pressure?
Remember a good thing isn'talways a God thing.
Schedule rest-like appointments.

(13:19):
If it's not on the calendar, itwon't happen.
Block time for walks in nature, reading your Bible without rush
and worship without distraction.
Honor your body.
Balance includes physicalwellness.
Nourish your body with water, movement and sleep.
Your body is the temple of theHoly Spirit, not a machine.

(13:41):
Use visual reminders.
Print Isaiah 40, verse 31 andpost it on your bathroom mirror,
your car dashboard, your fridge.
Let it call you back to yourcenter, back to balance, and
remember that our physicalbodies are not separate from our
spiritual lives.

(14:02):
When we are tired, dehydrated ordepleted, we become more
vulnerable to distraction, irritation and spiritual apathy.
Balanced living includeshydration as worship, movement
as celebration, rest asobedience, essential oils as
support and nutrition as fuelfor your God-given purpose.
You are not called to burn outin Jesus' name.
You are called to be a light inhis name.

(14:24):
Take early morning walks withworship music.
Enjoy devotional picnics withyour family.
Keep a gratitude journal at thedinner table.
Organize nature scavenger huntsto discover God's gifts.
Take sunset prayer walks andend your evenings sitting on the
porch with herbal tea andscripture.
Think about summer as a time tointegrate.

(14:44):
Let your faith shape your funand let your joy reflect your
peace.
Of course, there'll be dayswhen it might not go so smoothly
.
You might forget to pray, snapat the kids and finish the day
filling off balance again, andthat's okay.
God's mercies are new everymorning.
He doesn't need you to beperfect.
He simply wants your presenceand your progress.

(15:05):
When you stumble, start againtomorrow.
He'll be waiting with aneverlasting strength that will
get you back on track.
Let's close with this thought.
Balance isn't about controllingyour life, it's about
surrendering it to the One whoalready holds it all together.
When you live in rhythm withGod, you stop striving, you

(15:26):
start flowing.
You lead with grace, not grit.
This doesn't mean life won'tget messy.
It will, but you'll respondwith peace because you've
created space internally andexternally for God to move.
You were never meant to run onempty.
You were never called toexhaustion.
You were created to live insync with your Savior.

(15:46):
This is the beauty of abalanced Christian life, a heart
that's centered, a mind that'sclear, a body that's cared for,
a soul that's at rest.
Here's your invitation.
Choose one rhythm to start thisweek.
Will you begin your morningswith Isaiah 40:31?
Pause at midday with prayer andthe Raven blend of oils?

(16:07):
Reflect in the evening withgratitude?
Choose one, let it become yournew rhythm.
Then build from there, becausewhen you live in balance, you
live in blessing.
Thank you for tuning in todayand remember, just like setting
biblical boundaries, it's okayto say no to things that don't

(16:28):
serve you well, like that thirdpiece of cake at the church
potluck.
