Ever felt the ache of walking your faith journey alone while married? That spiritual disconnect can leave you wondering how to stay close to God when your spouse doesn't share your beliefs. Today's episode tackles this profound challenge with both compassion and practical wisdom.

Drawing from the biblical story of David and Bathsheba, we explore how even the most faithful among us experience brokenness. This powerful narrative reminds us that God doesn't ask for perfect performance but rather seeks a heart that is honest, broken, and surrendered. If you've spent years trying to bridge the spiritual gap in your marriage or carry the weight of both souls, there's liberating truth waiting for you here.

We dive deep into what forgiveness truly means in an unequally yoked relationship. It's not about sweeping issues under the rug or enabling destructive patterns. True forgiveness releases others to God while maintaining healthy boundaries that protect your emotional, spiritual, and physical wellbeing. You'll discover practical steps to live your faith authentically without becoming spiritually passive or resentful.

Whether you're currently navigating a spiritually mismatched marriage or healing from past disconnection, remember: you are not defined by your spouse's choices. Welcome back to Living onPurpose in Christ.
I'm your host, Paula, ordainedpastor, Christian coach, and

(03:17):
your guide for today's journeyof transformation.
Whether you're out on a walk, driving your kids to school, or
simply stealing a quiet momentto yourself with your diffuser
running and your favorite blendin the air, I want to thank you
for making space to meet withGod today.
Now, friend, let me ask yousomething from the heart.
Have you ever found yourself ina relationship where you loved

(03:40):
deeply, hoped sincerely, prayedearnestly, but still felt unseen
, unheard or spirituallyisolated?
If so, you're not alone.
This episode is especially foryou, dear sister, the woman who
loves Jesus with all her heart, yet finds herself walking
through life with a husband whodoesn't share that faith.
Or perhaps you're someone stillhealing from the heartache of a

(04:02):
past, unequally yoked marriage.
Whether you're still prayingfor breakthrough or curing
wounds from a past relationship, you are not forgotten.
There is redemption, there ispeace and there is restoration
available in Christ.
Let's turn to the powerful storyof David and Bathsheba, found

(04:23):
in 2 Samuel, verses 11 through12, a biblical story of
brokenness.
Spoiler alert, this isn't afeel-good love story.
It's a story of misuse of power, unfaithfulness, betrayal and
death.
Yet woven throughout itstragedy is a deeper message of
God's mercy, our human frailtyand the path to repentance.

(04:46):
King David was described as aman after God's own heart, but
even he made devastating choices.
One evening, as his army wasoff to battle, David stayed home
.
In that vulnerable space, idleness opened the door to
temptation.
He saw Bathsheba bathing, desired her and took her.

(05:06):
She became pregnant and insteadof confessing, David attempted
to cover it up by manipulatingher husband, Uriah, a loyal
soldier.
When that didn't work, Davidarranged for Uriah to be killed
in battle, and just like that, sin multiplied.
You may relate to Bathsheba morethan David.

(05:27):
Perhaps you've been caught incircumstances that weren't of
your own choosing.
Maybe you've experienced thespiritual fallout of someone
else's sin and you're leftwondering how restoration could
ever begin.
The good news, God sees thepain you carry.
He knows how to redeem even themost fractured pieces.
Let's pause for a moment hereto think about the ripple effect

(05:51):
of sin.
It's not just something thathappens in isolation.
David's choices impactedBathsheba, Uriah, the child who
didn't survive, the nation Davidgoverned and, ultimately, his
relationship with God.
Many Christian women findthemselves trying to hold
everything together, and maybethat's been you.

(06:11):
You've prayed and wept andwaited, hoping your husband
would one day walk into thefaith you cherish.
And yet here you are stilltrying to honor God in the
silence, in the tension, in thedeep ache of spiritual
disconnection.
But, like David, we mustrecognize that unacknowledged
sin or unhealed wounds spread.

(06:33):
The hidden becomes a heavyweight on the soul.
What's covered becomescorrupted.
And yet, even in the chaos, Goddoes not leave us alone.
Back to the story.
Enter Nathan, the prophet sentby God.
He told a parable about a richman stealing a poor man's only
beloved lamb.

(06:54):
David, enraged by the injustice, declared the thief worthy of
death.
Then Nathan turned the mirroron David and said you are that
man.
Conviction.
That moment was pivotal.
David didn't defend himself.
He didn't blame Bathsheba ortry to shift responsibility.

(07:14):
He said simply and humbly, Ihave sinned against the Lord.
This is where everythingchanges for David.
This is where healing begins.
Not when he pretended as if hewere okay, not when he tried to
suppress the truth or excuse hissin, but when he allowed the
Holy Spirit to illuminate thebroken places within and said,

(07:37):
God, I have sinned and I needyour help.
But what if you're in a marriagewhere your spouse doesn't turn
to God?
It could be tempting to try tocarry both hearts on your own,
but the thing is this, God didnot design you to be the Savior.
God only asked you to stayfaithful in your own walk, soft,
surrendered, courageous andfully devoted to Him.

(08:00):
Let's talk about a heart ofrepentance.
It was from that place ofbrokenness that David wrote one
of the most powerful prayers inscripture, Psalm 51.
Let's read verses 16 through 17,where David prayed, You have no
delight in sacrifice.
If I were to give a burntoffering, you would not be

(08:22):
pleased.
The sacrifice acceptable to Godis a broken spirit, a broken
and contrite heart, O God, youwill not despise.
Let that wash over you for amoment.
If you're not driving in a safeplace to do so, close your eyes
.
Take a slow, deep breath.

(08:43):
Now, breathe out any guiltyou're carrying.
Invite the Holy Spirit in.
God doesn't ask for performance.
He asks for a heart that ishonest, broken open, and

(09:05):
surrendered.
If you've spent years trying tobe enough, to fix or repair the
spiritual gap between you andyour husband.

I want you to hear this (09:16):
God isn't asking you to perform.
He's inviting you to rest, tosit with Him, broken and all,
and receive His comfort andclarity.
Sitting in the quiet of God'spresence is where the
restoration after the stormhappens.
Though David suffered theconsequences of his sin, God did

(09:44):
not abandon him.
Later we see the birth ofSolomon, born to David and
Bathsheba.
Solomon, the child who wouldbecome king and build the temple
, is a sign that God still worksthrough broken stories.
Redemption is possible.
And friend, I want to speak toyour heart today, especially if

(10:05):
you are, or have been, in anunequally yoked relationship.
Yes, it hurts to walk alonespiritually.
Yes, it's confusing when loveand faith don't align.
Yes, it's heartbreaking whenthe one who vowed to stand
beside you can't or won't walkwith Christ.
But take courage.
God sees you, he honors yourprayers and he invites you into

(10:29):
a restoration similar to the oneDavid experienced.
You are not defined by yourspouse's choices.
You are not powerless in theface of spiritual loneliness.
You are seen, known and deeplyloved by the God who restores.
Your testimony, your journey,is not void of value simply

(10:50):
because your spouse didn't walkalongside you.
Your devotion, even whenunreciprocated, is a fragrant
offering to the Lord.
Are you ready for a closer lookinto what forgiveness looks
like in an unequally yokedrelationship?
Let's bring this home toreality.

(11:11):
Forgiveness is not sweepingthings under the rug, it's not
enabling destructive behaviorand it certainly is not
pretending you haven't been hurt.
Forgiveness is releasing theperson to God.
It's choosing to unlock yourheart from bitterness.
It's saying God, you are thejudge.
I trust you to make all thingsright.

(11:31):
You can forgive and still haveboundaries.
You can forgive and stilladvocate for your emotional,
spiritual and physical safety.
You can forgive and stillgrieve what's been lost.
If you're married to someone whodoesn't share your faith,
here's what you can do.
Pray consistently, but don'ttry to make things happen.
Live your faith gently andboldly.

(11:53):
Surround yourself with a godlycommunity.
Refuse to become spirituallypassive.
And model grace, but don'tabandon Truth.
And if your marriage has endedor if you're still healing from
past spiritual disconnection, know that Jesus is not ashamed
of you.
You are still a daughter of theKing and your story isn't over.

(12:13):
You didn't walk away from God,you endured, you clung to Him
and that, my sister, is thebeauty of your unique story.
If you are willing, we cancreate a sacred moment of
healing and prayer.
We can create a sacred spacetogether right now.
If you have it on hand, Iinvite you to diffuse or apply

(12:33):

Pause the podcast right now ifyou need to, and go and find
them.
Then, as the aroma fills thisspace, turn your heart toward
God.
Let's pray.
Heavenly Father, we come beforeyou with open hands and broken

(12:54):
hearts.
Like David, we have mademistakes, we've been hurt, we've
wandered, we've loved deeply, but we've also suffered deeply.
Some of us have felt alone inour marriages.
Others have carried the griefof separation.
But today we choose to believeyou are still writing our

(13:17):
stories.
Lord, create in us a cleanheart.
Renew a steadfast spirit withinus.
Help us release resentment.
Help us to walk in forgiveness.
Heal the parts of us that areweary and afraid.
Give us strength to live withpurpose, even in the waiting.
And God, for those still yokedto unbelieving spouses, let your

(13:42):
peace reign in their homes.
Let their gentle spirit reflectyour love and in your perfect
timing, bring spiritualalignment.
Thank you for loving uscompletely, even when we are
broken.
We receive your forgiveness andwalk forward in your grace.
In Jesus' precious and Holyname, we pray.

(14:06):
Amen.
Let me close with this.
David's story didn't end inshame, it ended in redemption
and so can yours.
Whether you've walked throughreconciliation, separation, or

(14:26):
inner healing, know this, Godspecializes in restoring what
feels broken.
He brings beauty from ashes, purpose from pain, and joy from
mourning.
Don't believe the lie thatyou're too far gone or that your
situation is too complicated.
