LSG 008: Xanthe Huynh talks about voice acting for video games, playing volleyball with a kangaroo in Tekken 3, and her love of party games with friends like Wario Ware and Just Dance

Welcome to Episode 8 of Load Save Game, a podcast where I talk to people about their personal journey with video games. I am your host Jose Eusebio. My wonderful guest today is my great friend Xanthe Huynh. I first met Xanthe back in our college Japanese class and while I think we’ve both wasurechatta’d a lot of our Japanese we still kept in touch many years later. I still remember Xanthe talking about how she wanted to do voice acting full-time and it’s been amazing seeing her journey and how far she’s come in her career. Now she’s doing video game and anime voice acting for all these amazing anime series and games and I’m so proud of her because I know it was a lot of hard work and dedication to make it all happen.

In the episode Xanthe talks about: what it’s like voice acting for video games, all her favorite memories playing volleyball and boxing kangaroos in the Tekken series, playing party games like Wario Ware and Just Dance with friends, and how DDR exposed her to Techno and House music for the first time. Corrections: Xanthe likely meant Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu on the NES. Jackie Chan Adventures show (2000) and PS2 game (2004) came out much later. The pink outfit girl ape in Donkey Kong Racing was Dixie Kong and the turtle was Tiptup the Turtle. According to Wikipedia Gran Turismo is actually the best selling PS1 game of all time, followed by FFVII, and Gran Turismo 2. I neglected to mention that the Gon character from Tekken 3 was actually a guest character from the Masashi Tanaka manga series. The boxing character in Tekken is named Steve Fox. Rune Factory Frontier was on the Wii and was released in 2009 in North America.
