The Lonely Girls been talking about doing a Miyazaki episode since the inception of the podcast. Madelaine already knew too much about the filmmaker and Rebecca (being Rebecca) never thought that they would have enough time to properly research and give y'all an episode worthy of the topic. But then we became Season 2 Rebecca and Madelaine and thus transformed into much more ambitious ladies.
This episode we are discussing the Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli. Their cannon of films mean so much to lonely girls and have some of the best representation of the archetype on screen. We discuss each of the films (a handful of them we do say, "I didn't watch that one", but not many), look at them through the The Lonely Girls Lens and and *cough* film maker's lens.
We also discuss Miyazaki, why his name is so synonymous with the studio, and how his childhood went on to impact his most famous work. One word hint. Planes.
