Mike Koser (00:00):
I honestly wasn't sure that this day would ever
happen, that not just uh PeteRose but shoeless Joe Jackson
would be reinstated and um beeligible for election into the
baseball hall of fame.
Um but in light of the newsthat came out yesterday uh
regarding Pete's reinstatementto Major League Baseball and uh
and his renewed eligibility, I'mre-releasing this short episode

(00:24):
that aired last fall, um,shortly after Pete's passing um
that contains the last messagethat Pete left for me uh shortly
before his passing.
Hi, I'm Mike Koser from theLost Ballparks Podcast, and it
is with a heavy heart tonightthat I come to you to announce
that uh the all-time hit king,Pete Rose, has passed away at

(00:45):
the age of eighty-three.
Uh Pete and I had beenexchanging messages for the last
year or so.
I had wanted so badly to havehim come on the podcast.
And um I recently had sent hima message asking questions about
where was the first majorleague baseball game that you
ever attended as a kid?
What do you remember about thatday?

(01:06):
What do you remember aboutplaying at Crosley Field, all
kinds of stuff like that.
And then Pete uh left me amessage, uh an audio message.
And I took that audio messagewith him answering those
questions, and I added some uhaudio from the archives and uh I
want to play that for you now.
Rest in peace, Pete Rose.

Pete Rose (01:27):
Hey Mike, this is Pete Rose.
Let me take you back to myfirst MLB game as a kid.
It was at Crosley Field inCincinnati.

Announcer (01:36):
It's a beautiful night for baseball here in
Cincinnati.
The temperature today, rightaround 80 degrees.
Still a small amount oftwilight in the sky.
And it's baseball here atCrosley Field.

Pete Rose (01:47):
And I remember it being in awe of the crowd and
the energy in the stadium, whichwas Crosley Field.
One of my favorite memories iswhen I got to meet my hero, Stan
the Man Musial, number six atCrosley Field.

Announcer (02:03):
Here's Musial! A base hit would give the Cardinals
the lead.

Pete Rose (02:08):
And of course, I never forgot hit number 4192.

Marty Brennaman (02:12):
He levels the bat a couple of times.
Shaw kicks and he fires.
Rose swings. (Joe Nuxhall) "There it is! There it is!"Hit number 4192.
And it ispandemonium here at Riverfront Stadium.

(02:34):
The applause continuesunabated.

Pete Rose (02:45):
I never forget forgot hit number 3631, which broke
Stan's record when I was withthe Phillies.
The roar of the crowd, myteammates surrounding me was
unforgettable.

Announcer (03:01):
In Philadelphia, we're celebrating the fireworks,
the rousing, standing, rousingovation from a crowd of close to
60,000 people.
His career began in 1963 at age40, 3,631.
To pass Musial.

(03:21):
next up. Aaron.

Pete Rose (03:28):
Wishing you all the best.
