Tyler (00:07):
Welcome back to the last,
last podcast. No. Last Boy
Scouts podcast. We don't evenremember the name. It feels like
it's been too long.
Danny (00:14):
It has been a while. Too
long. Yeah. Last episode was
with Jeremy.
Tyler (00:17):
Last episode was with
Jeremy. And you responded. Yeah.
Lots of people wanted to knowwho he was.
Danny (00:23):
Yeah. He was he he did a
good job, man. He was stoked
about that. I often wonder if,like, you know, we we gotta
eventually have to hire if oneof our friends, if somebody out
there can help us with socialmedia.
Tyler (00:35):
Oh, I know.
Danny (00:36):
I don't you know, I
think, like, we could do a
better job. I feel like there'salways better that we can do.
Tyler (00:41):
Yeah.
Danny (00:41):
That's one of those
things where, like, I I wish I
knew more about to help grow ourplatform because he is is such a
unique individual, and I wannagive more attention to his
platform because he does notcare about what you think, but
(01:03):
he but but but he cares. Thecontent is cool. Yeah. Right?
And I thought that that episodewas such a good one, man.
Like, I
Tyler (01:12):
was stoked about that. So
terrific. Just to hear his
story, and we're gonna have acouple more coming up. Yeah.
Hopefully obviously, you seewe're not in the bus.
Yeah.
Danny (01:19):
Yeah. Bus. I just got out
of the bus. I just got out of
the bus. 10 days in the bus.
So kinda hit that today. Yeah.Let's see. We had Do
Tyler (01:26):
you wanna start there, or
do you wanna start at summer
camp?
Danny (01:28):
Let's talk about summer
camp. Yeah. Let's talk about
summer camp. What a great time,
Tyler (01:31):
Oh oh my gosh.
Danny (01:33):
Dude, that was insane.
Tyler (01:34):
It was such a great
weekend.
Danny (01:36):
It really was. There was
so many, high points and so
many, like, cool things thathappened. The super fights were
insane, dude. Oh, absolutely.Yeah.
There was everybody showed up tocompete.
Tyler (01:49):
Just a great vibe. Like,
walking in Friday, just a great
vibe to the room and, like, tothe academy people
Danny (01:58):
Yeah.
Tyler (01:59):
That helped. I mean, I
can't imagine the level of work
that Mike and Mona and the crewput into it, but like, it was
top notch. The check-inexperience was smooth. I almost
wore the t shirt. I wanted towear the t shirt.
I was worried you were gonnawear the t shirt. You're gonna
have matching t shirts onYouTube.
Danny (02:15):
We should've told you. I
you know what? Unfortunately,
man, I got I was so busythroughout the day and busy
throughout the night that Iended up not getting a T shirt,
and, they had ran out by thetime that I Oh, no. Went. So,
hopefully, you know, Mona's sogood to me, and, hopefully, she
put one aside to show.
So leading up to the day, youcould feel the buzz. Yeah. I
(02:39):
walked into the mat to Tristanand James, the guy that fought
Davy Mhmm. Training.
Tyler (02:46):
Yeah.
Danny (02:47):
And, dude, they were
trying to kill each other.
Tyler (02:49):
Yeah.
Danny (02:50):
They were trying to kill
each other, and I was thinking,
Tripp, slow down. Today.
Tyler (02:53):
Slow down.
Danny (02:54):
But Yeah. You know, they
were both, like and me and Mike
were watching them and just thevibe. I really believe that
everybody took it seriously.Mhmm. It was friendly.
Tyler (03:07):
Oh, yeah.
Danny (03:07):
Air quotes. But it also
had some meaning behind it.
Right?
Tyler (03:13):
Yeah. So let's recap all
the fights. The first fight was
Blake and
Danny (03:17):
Tripp. He the Tripp,
Pittman. Pittman. Yep. And,
dude, their level of jiu jitsu, they ended up going to overtime
because the the level of jiujitsu that those young kids
Tyler (03:26):
Textbook. Textbook. Let
that the the guillotine, like,
he threw his arm
Danny (03:30):
over. Over.
Tyler (03:31):
Oh, and the most amazing
thing, like, I don't know if it
was, like, intended, but havingmaster Sour show up, Pedro Sour
show up, was I don't know if washe he just kinda showed up.
Danny (03:40):
So there was, you know,
giving some things away. I knew
in Florida that there was a highpossibility that he was gonna be
there Good. When when I had, youknow, because he
Tyler (03:51):
came to Florida.
Danny (03:52):
Yeah. Oh, okay. And so I
knew it. There was some you
know, you don't wanna giveeverything away, but, if you
didn't see the video, yeah, like, just to recap that, not to
go backwards, but, we put the,4th, 5th, 6th degree black belts
on the table. Mona set that up.
And, dude, the way she set thatup, place cards, she had, master
(04:15):
sour in the middle. And, it's aremake kind of of of an old
seminar with Helio Gracie where,Pedro fights a couple guys and
Hicks and Gracie is the, ref.And it's kind of what that was
kind of the idea behind thewhole thing. Right? Mhmm.
And you're right. When it cametogether, man, it was like, this
(04:37):
is this is, like, surreal thatthis is happening. Yeah. The
walkouts were perfect. Right?
So fun. Blake and Tripp Pittman,Blake, Blake Hallett and Tripp
Pittman are young young kids.They're I think they're 12 11
years old, and, dude, they wereshowing some killer Just killer
jiu jitsu. Textbook.
Tyler (04:58):
Like, just textbook jiu
jitsu.
Danny (04:59):
Killer jiu jitsu. They
went into overtime, and I think
Blake won by, first points inovertime was just Yeah.
Tyler (05:04):
The takedown. And it was
like, they put their heart into
it. Like, you see these kids, they well up. They don't wanna
lose.
Danny (05:09):
Yeah.
Tyler (05:09):
Right? And it would have
been whoever, you know, whoever
lost would have welled up. Youknow? And they put it out there.
They put it out there.
I had a I had a good timebecause Cozy, my youngest came
and watched all the fights, andI was like, hey. They're your
age.
Danny (05:21):
Yeah. They're your fish.
Tyler (05:22):
She's like, that's not
gonna make me wanna do jujitsu.
Oh, no. I'm like, no. But, youknow, just know that they are
they're your age.
Danny (05:29):
Yeah. You know? Next up
was London and man, I'm, I'll
look at my notes. Let me look atmy I'm gonna grab Charlie.
Charlie.
Alright. Charlie was with us inthe academy for, like, 3 days.
Tyler (05:39):
Yeah. Yeah.
Danny (05:40):
He came and hung with us
and trained with us. He was
Tyler (05:42):
a fun train. Yeah.
Danny (05:43):
He was a great train.
Tyler (05:44):
He was he was awesome.
Yeah. Just a fun, very
Danny (05:47):
flowy roller and, like
Tyler (05:48):
Yeah. Tough kid.
Danny (05:48):
Tough kid.
Tyler (05:49):
Yeah. Carolina, I think.
Danny (05:50):
No. No. No. I think he
was from, headquarters. I think
he was from Virginia.
Virginia?
Tyler (05:54):
I knew he was back east.
I knew he was back east.
Danny (05:56):
Back east. They might be
in front of Georgia even.
Tyler (05:57):
Like Yeah. Yeah.
Danny (05:58):
Who knows? But, man, they
flew in a couple days, hung out
with us. Him and his brothertrained with us. Their mom was
awesome. And London ended upwinning, I believe, by
submission on that one.
And, again, 2 kids that areyoung, teen, 2 belts that are
like hammers. Yeah. And I'vetrained with London before, and
(06:19):
he is tough.
Tyler (06:20):
They both both I trained
I trained with Charlie Friday
morning, just kinda moved withhim. Like, not really using any
any any weight, but he he hesubmitted me twice. Like, just
just good, like, moves, Justsolid jujitsu. Getting to be he
just he can move better than me.Obviously, he's got that youth.
Danny (06:37):
Yeah.
Tyler (06:37):
And then, of course, I've
rolled with London before too
and just just a powerhouse.
Danny (06:41):
They're killers. Yeah.
And then, my Tristan Tripp and
Paul, they competed and it wasfireworks. It was just It was
fireworks from the beginning.Mhmm.
They Tristan ended up pullingguard, and they went to the
ground. They got into a weirdscramble. He caught Paul in a
(07:01):
triangle.
Tyler (07:02):
That was so tight.
Danny (07:03):
Dude, he had that thing,
and Paul is so tough. He is so
tough because he turned. And Ieven thought when he turned,
he's like, oh, man. He's givinghis arm, but he turned. And when
he turned, Tristan's feet gotstuck behind him and the and the
triangle opened.
Paul snatched on his foot, toefolded him, and, trip tapped,
like like Yeah. Rightfully so.You know? You never Yeah. We
(07:24):
talk about this a lot with, feetwith legs.
And I had an interestingconversation with, I believe it
was either Lamau or Rylan, andthey were like, you know, at the
young kids' level up until your, you know, you're in your
thirties, you should avoid theleg lock game as much as
possible because you can reallymess up your ankles. You can
(07:46):
mess up your feet. You can messup your knees. And that stuff
stays with you for
Tyler (07:49):
a while.
Danny (07:50):
So if you if you develop
your game and then get into leg
lock and and trip tap, you know, that was tight when he when,
Paul caught that toe fold, itwas it was very tight, and I was
proud. The trip didn't try toYeah. You know, show anything
because then you're then you younever know what's gonna happen
with it with it with those kindof joint locks.
Tyler (08:06):
Yeah.
Danny (08:08):
So shout out to Paul.
He's tough. I trained with him
the next day, and he kicked thecrap out of me.
Tyler (08:12):
Still young?
Danny (08:13):
Yeah. Yeah. Young buck?
Yeah. I mean, these guys are
bucks.
So, yeah, Tripp is 20, and Ibelieve Paul's, like, 33, 34
years old. He's and and justman, such a good kid. Him and
Tripp at the end, they both, like, shook hands, hugged. They
were they were stoked with eachother. Then we had, I believe,
Kenny and Roman?
(08:36):
Roman. Dude, Roman is a monster.
Tyler (08:40):
He he's like what you
would expect. Like, he's just
just chiseled.
Danny (08:45):
He is
Tyler (08:46):
Roman god. Like,
literally Roman god, like,
statue. Like
Danny (08:50):
And Kenny did well. Kenny
Tyler (08:51):
fought well.
Danny (08:53):
He ended up, putting
Kenny to sleep. And, dude, when
Kenny woke up,
Tyler (08:58):
he was just like,
Danny (08:59):
what in the world just
happened? Right? So, you you
know, like like I said, theytook it seriously. And and Yeah.
Man, Kenny going against Roman.
Kenny fought well. Roman ishuge. And, you know, I, man
Tyler (09:14):
Little youth on Kenny
too. Yeah. What do they say,
like, youth wise? It's it's likea couple about, like you know
what I mean?
Danny (09:20):
Like, if you start
training at a young age, then
you're you know, and you make itto a blue belt, you man, blue
belt is a
Tyler (09:26):
Right.
Danny (09:26):
I mean, you we've tried
with Tim. Tim's a green belt,
and, man, that kid's he's asnake.
Tyler (09:30):
He's probably closer.
Like, you you know what I mean?
Like, just his youth kinda justadds a couple extra belt, like,
stripes to his belt. Like, hemaybe hasn't earned them jiu
jitsu wise, but, like, there'sjust something about that youth
that gives you a little bit moreenergy, a little bit more pep.
Danny (09:44):
Sure. A little
Tyler (09:44):
bit more go.
Danny (09:45):
And and just position
wise, when you start to realize
your position is so much betterthan, you know, us laymans that
started so late in life. Theirposition is that's one thing I
noticed about Tim, London, andsome of those younger kids,
Tripp. Some of those youngerkids when you train with them,
they don't have the manstrength, but their technique is
on them.
Tyler (10:02):
Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Danny (10:02):
Right? Their hands
placement, their knee placement,
their foot placement, everythinggoes well. So like I said, Roman
submitted Kenny. Next up was Kimand Hannah. And, dude, those
girls, it was so excitingbecause it kinda got the broom
buzzed.
Yeah. Yeah. Like, wow. Eachmatch was starting to, like,
really gain steam on top of theother ones. And and it's really
(10:27):
hard to sell jujitsu fights tonon jujitsu players because
there's so much technique thathappens Mhmm.
That we see that we're like, oh,that was awesome.
Tyler (10:36):
Yeah. You
Danny (10:37):
know, you get out of them
a submission. You you you you
snatch something from a positionthat you're like, oh, I know
that where there's no punching, there's no striking, so you
don't see damage until all of asudden you're like, oh, Kim's
tapping. Yeah. Triangle to anarmbar. It was beautiful.
Yeah. Beautiful. And they bothfought so well. They were, like,
amazing women. I trained withKim.
(10:58):
I trained with Kim, a lot to tolead up to this fight because,
we're roughly same size, and sheneeded good solid training. So I
was heading down to Lehigh, youknow, once, twice a week just to
make sure that she got goodtraining. Hannah, tough. She is
(11:18):
she's tough as shit. Yeah.
She is so tough, and and she wasso they were such good you know,
they they shook hands. Theyhugged, and and they were, like,
kind to each other. You know?
Tyler (11:28):
Yeah. It's good
sportsmanship.
Danny (11:30):
But all around
sportsmanship.
Tyler (11:31):
Like, I there wasn't
there wasn't a single bit of
really bad blood
Danny (11:34):
that I felt.
Tyler (11:35):
I mean, yes. In the
match, it's like every man for
himself, but, like, sure. At theend of the day, like, everybody
was everybody was high onjujitsu
Danny (11:42):
at the end of the night.
Then Yep. Here we go.
Tyler (11:45):
Get into some black
belts. No. No. We didn't. No.
But I'm I
Danny (11:48):
mean, the best the the
biggest secret that I think of
the whole entire event was, NickJacks and Billy Buss.
Tyler (12:00):
Oh, yeah. Yeah. Two brown
belts.
Danny (12:01):
Two brown belts. The
brown belts. The same size,
exactly the same weight, exactlythe same age, and exactly the
same level of jitsi. Right? 4stripe brown belts.
I've trained with both of thoseguys a bunch of times, and they
literally have the same game.Yeah. They want to smush you
into the ground, make your lifehell, never let you really
(12:27):
almost, like, submit you, butthen go back to something
because that hurts. Even worse,Nick Jacks, he's not afraid to
put his knee on your face andjust hang out there till the
round is over. Yeah.
He he he really forges us intosteel. Oh, yeah. He forges our
entire academy into steel, andeverybody talks about the fact
that, like, he is the dude. Heis the enforcer.
Tyler (12:48):
Yep.
Danny (12:49):
He is the brown belt
enforcer. He is if you come to
the academy and you have, alittle bit of go, you go with
Nate Jackson. Yep. He's like, okay. You have no more go.
That people walk off the matlike, that is a monster.
Tyler (13:02):
Yes.
Danny (13:03):
He is a a a monster.
Tyler (13:05):
Yeah.
Danny (13:05):
Billy, I've trained with
him. Yeah. Same exact feeling.
Yeah. There literally is 2 ofthe same feelings.
And they fought to almost rightup until the round was open.
Tyler (13:15):
Yeah. There was, like,
seconds. I was running the
clock. I didn't couldn't alwayssee the clock, but I was running
the clock. I think it was likethere was, like
Danny (13:22):
Seconds.
Tyler (13:22):
Yeah. Because
Danny (13:23):
I remember saying to
Nick, you got about a minute.
You got about a minute. Again,we trained Nick and I trained a
ton, cardio. We've you know, wewould do rounds where I was
like, I'm not tapping to asingle thing you do to me. I
don't care what happens unlessit's a joint lock where I you
know, I gotta save myself, but Iain't tapping to no chokes.
I'm not tapping to your tomeanness. I'm not tapping to any
(13:44):
of that stuff. And and we'd getdone, and he'd and he'd be like,
thank you. I needed that. Yeah.
He fed a choke with the ghee, cross choke, and ended up
getting the tap. Everybody goeswild. They go crazy. Professor
Curran comes out, and he has ablack belt for, Billy. Mhmm.
Next thing I know, professorpulls out a black belt for Nick.
(14:08):
And, dude, everybody went rough.Yeah. It was wild.
Tyler (14:13):
If you follow me on
social media, I posted the last
hop. I I was so stoked on it. Iwas like, oh, man. I gotta get
my camera out. Finally got theend of it out and, you know,
professors tying the belt aroundNick.
And then of to have all peopleof all people there
Danny (14:29):
Pedro comes out.
Tyler (14:30):
Comes out
Danny (14:30):
It jokes him.
Tyler (14:31):
And get you know,
congratulates them both
Danny (14:33):
Congrats, man. On a
Tyler (14:34):
on a, you know, a good
fight and and, you know, kind of
just adds the, like the, thecherry on top of that. Like if I
could imagine getting my blackbelt,
Danny (14:44):
That'd be the way. That
would
Tyler (14:45):
be like the storybook way
that I'd wanna get it that I'd
wanna get my black belt. Right?Like, they those guys, both of
them have worked incrediblyhard. I mean, you know, Billy
has been since I've been in theacademy 3 years, like, he's he's
been this isn't his first timein town. Right?
Like He
Danny (15:00):
comes early.
Tyler (15:01):
And he's been up to
Florida and, you know, he's he's
and and Nick is always, youknow, at the the academy. These
guys have put in the work.
Danny (15:09):
Put in the work.
Tyler (15:09):
They've put in the work.
Danny (15:10):
And, you know, Nick came
to us as a purple belt, came to
Professor as a purple belt. AndI remember thinking, like, this
dude is really, really amonster. Yeah. What he's added
to just our academy alone is,like, invaluable. And now, you
know, now we claim him as ours.
Like, we claim him as ours, andI hope he always sticks around
(15:32):
or always, like, comes in andhangs out with us. He's got some
things that he's working onthat, you know, you know,
selfishly, I hope
Tyler (15:39):
Yeah.
Danny (15:39):
Don't quite work out, and
he sticks around. And you see in
those 2 get their black beltslike that, you're right. It it
it makes you go, man, what acool thing we're a part of.
Right?
Tyler (15:50):
Yeah.
Danny (15:51):
What an amazing thing.
And and and you you think you
think, is that the top of thiscompetition? Is that the top?
Did we just now have thiseruption? Now we're gonna have
let downs.
Yeah. Right? And
Tyler (16:05):
Now we get Now we get to
the black belt. Now we end the
black belt.
Danny (16:09):
Let's start. Right? And
so we have Davey Gorham and
Jimmy Green do a no gi match.Mhmm. And, dude, they were
spinning around.
They were unlocking legs. Theywere locking legs. They were on
they were doing all this crazystuff that I was like, I don't
know how they keep track
Tyler (16:27):
Yeah.
Danny (16:28):
Of what where they were
at. And just a quick thing, like
so Davey ended up submittingJimmy with a hill hook, and the
next day, they both analyzed Iwas listening I was talking to
Jimmy, and he analyzed exactlywhat happened as if he was a
scientist that had just almostgot the the the lab the lab
(16:52):
result he wanted Oh, yeah. Butdidn't quite. And then to listen
to Davey analyze it, and he gotthe lab result that he wanted.
And it was like, these 2 dudeswere talking about all these leg
entries and all these differentlittle different techniques of,
like, defending it.
Or if you would have just donethis with your knee, if you
declared your knee knee lineearlier, and and we were like, I
(17:13):
am Oh, okay. The next day, theyended up going back out there
talking about, you know, infront of everybody, like, how
they could have cleared it andhow Jimmy could have cleared it
easier and not been submitted. But he said, oh, I I did clear
it correctly, and then I stuckit back in. And he's like, I
don't know why I did that. I I Icleared it correctly, and then
(17:34):
for some reason, right back in.
And then he caught him with thehill hook. And I was like, what
in the world? How are these 2dudes? Yeah. And then we had,
Zach?
Zach and James.
Tyler (17:49):
Mhmm.
Danny (17:49):
It's James, Finisio, and
Zach. Oh, man.
Tyler (17:55):
It's it's a it's a big
one.
Danny (17:57):
Yeah. And my brain
farted. He's a he he he's a
black belt that coaches down inLehigh. It'll come to me. And,
yeah, those 2 dudes areginormous.
Yeah. They're so big, dude. Iwas so surprised on how well
they did with each other. Right. You know?
And, like, there's so manylittle things that are happening
(18:19):
as black belts that I'm like, Idon't man, like, in when I'm
training, I understand a lot ofthings. You know? Like, I'm
starting to understand a lotmore things. But when I'm
watching certain black beltstuff that I'm like, I have no
idea what they're doing. Yeah.
I have no idea. I I'm so lost.Yeah. I'm confused on this.
Tyler (18:33):
Yeah. And And what's
interesting too is, like, all of
the competitors did really wellfor the altitude. You know,
we're training above 7,000 feet.
Danny (18:42):
Yep. For sure.
Tyler (18:43):
You know, you would think
that would give, you know, maybe
that was the advantage to somepeople like perhaps Nick Jacks,
just cause this is his homealtitude, you know, coming from
sea level, But like the, this iswhere you really kind of saw the
competitors, like bothcompetitors, Lehigh's, you know,
few thousand people low ParkCity, but these are the first
two competitors where you kindasaw that the elevations kind of
Danny (19:06):
impact making adjustments
to their gear Yeah.
Tyler (19:09):
To adjust things down.
Danny (19:11):
For the elevation, and
they both were, like, slowing
things down. And, James ended upgetting the submission on that
one as well. Again, both ofthose guys, like, speaking to
them, they were both, like, socordial and so, like, after the
fight, so, like, nice to eachother. They were, like, talking
things about what happenedduring the match to each other,
(19:31):
and I was, like, listening tohim again. And I was like, man,
this is amazing.
You know? And and and like Isaid, it's from a jiu jitsu's
perspective. We were all soexcited about it, and things
were running so smoothly. Right?Yeah.
And you're like, man, is thereever gonna be a hiccup, or
what's gonna happen? There wasso much anticipation for each
match. So much anticipation. Somuch anticipation. So much
(19:52):
anticipation.
So much anticipation.Anticipation. And then what a
crazy way to finish. Yeah. Thenwe have
Tyler (20:00):
Well, we should we should
back up, and and the gentleman
that won, he ended up gettinghis 3rd degree.
Danny (20:05):
Oh, yeah. I forgot about
that.
Tyler (20:06):
He got his 3rd degree
after Yeah. Or the before the
weekend was over.
Danny (20:11):
Yeah. It was, I'm I'm I'm
such a knucklehead. I'm on the
mic, and I you people are like, hey. Call James back up here.
Call James back up here.
And I'm like, no. Not into themic. I'm just yelling James.
Yelling at him, James. And hekinda looks at me like, what?
Matt, why are you screaming atme? And I was like, James, we
(20:32):
need you to come back up uphere. Somebody said to me, I
think it was you and Patrick, use the microphone. Dude, it was
so funny. I was like, my brainyou know, because I'm doing all
the announcing.
I'm, like, trying to keep thecrowd going. I'm
Tyler (20:45):
You're also managing the
time and who's going on the
fights and making sure peopleare staged and, like
Danny (20:50):
Making sure the walkout
goes correctly. Right. Because
one of the one of the thingsthat we talked about is, like,
don't start your walkout tooearly. I will tell you when to
go. I will give you a nod whenit's time to go because we wanna
your music to play.
Yeah. And if if not, you're thisis gonna look silly. We want
this to be like a legitproduction. Yeah. Right?
So, yeah, James ended up gettinghis 3rd stripe. Master Sour
(21:15):
again gave that to him. That wasawesome. We had that time to to,
let that happen, and he wasstoked. He ended up, Yeah.
It was it was cool. He was he hehe he was he was really, really
appreciative of that, and Ithought that was cool, man.
Like, what a cool way to getyour to get a stripe and to get,
your progress on the mat likethat. Right? And then the last
(21:39):
2.
The last 2. Bill and Anthony. And this match had some hype
behind it because, Anthony isour guy. He is our he is he is
the epitome of what you you lookfor in a monster black belt.
He's not Nick Hallett.
He's not flashy. He crunchesyou. He smooshes you. He if you
(22:01):
are not doing what he want, ifyou are not training well, if
you are not doing well, he'sgrumpy. He he is he means it
from his heart.
He's kind. Mhmm. He is so kindto us and so scary looking and
so intimidating. Yes. And whenyou seen Bill, he had the exact
Tyler (22:17):
same look.
Danny (22:17):
Yeah. He had the same
personality almost. It was like,
this guy means business.
Tyler (22:22):
And I love that he comes
out to no music. He came
Danny (22:24):
out to no music. Just
Tyler (22:26):
business. He came out on
business.
Danny (22:28):
It was like no music.
Everybody was like, this is
insane. And you could feel thebuzz. Jiujitsu buzz. And so then
Anthony comes out to this operamusic that is, like, insane.
He comes out. He's gotponytails. He is looks the part.
Tyler (22:47):
Yeah.
Danny (22:48):
It was almost like this
is, like, staged
Tyler (22:50):
Yeah.
Danny (22:50):
For these 2 dudes. They
come out, and when they shake
hands, it's like thunder.
Tyler (22:54):
It was clash of the
titans.
Danny (22:56):
There was one time when I
think it was shared on
Instagram. Bill sweeps Anthony, holds him down, kinda put some
weight on him, and then you justsee Anthony, like, nope, comes
up, and they both look at eachother like, yep.
Tyler (23:11):
Okay.
Danny (23:12):
We're here. We're here.
You know?
Tyler (23:13):
I mean, to me, that was
amazing. There was another such
like, part I remember, like, hefloated Anthony a little bit,
and I've never, like I'm not theper guy to, like,
Danny (23:23):
he he
Tyler (23:23):
to do that to Anthony.
You know what I mean? Like, I
know the power Yeah. That he hasbehind Anthony has behind him.
Like, it's I have nothing butrespect for it.
But to see that, I was justlike, it was insane.
Danny (23:36):
Yeah. He Anthony ends up
taking Bill down and submits
him.
Tyler (23:43):
Mhmm.
Danny (23:43):
And, dude, how loud did
things get?
Tyler (23:48):
Oh, it it just erupted.
Danny (23:50):
It did. Yeah. It was
insane how loud that was. It it
was an it was such a fun end ofthe night. There were so many
more things that happened, thepresentations of of some of the
awards, Tony talking, the thethe the master sour coming out
and giving us such a greatspeech, giving us, like, such
good advice, such goodinformation of how he how happy
(24:11):
he was, how excited he was forthese guys to compete the way
that they did.
Because at the end of the day, like I always say, you know, old
people have to do their job. Youyou the person that wins has to
do their job. The person thatloses has to do their job. They
both have to go out there, compete, do their job.
Somebody's gonna win, somebody'sgonna lose, but it doesn't
matter.
You're you're going to do yourjob. And the fact that we had so
(24:33):
many people come up to us andgo, amazing. Amazing. Amazing. I
can't believe you guys pulledthis like this.
This was unreal. It it made meso excited and so stoked for the
next events that fills my jiujitsu cup. And Yeah. The
instructions the next couple ofdays were Oh. Unreal.
Tyler (24:50):
Unbelievable
instructions.
Danny (24:51):
We had so much
instruction, so much jiu jitsu,
so much training, so muchhanging out. I was not able to
hang out that much on Saturdaylike I'd like because I had so
much to get ready for
Tyler (25:07):
The trip.
Danny (25:07):
The trip. And the trip,
you know, is there there's gonna
be times where I'm gonna tellyou, like, I I can't remember
everything about the trip, but Ican remember, like, so many
things of what happened withMisty and I. We'd like to still
thank, Jitsi rings. Yeah. Weappreciate, Jitsi rings.
They, so I still have my purplebelt one. People still you can't
(25:29):
quite see it. It's faded reallybad, but it kinda keeps it helps
keep track of your, progress, but I wear my ring. I I know
Preston wears his ring. Yep.
Tyler (25:37):
I see
Danny (25:37):
a lot of people with
their rings around. It's the
color of your belt. Yep. You canget them with stripes. Yep.
Of course, Highlife Breathing.
Tyler (25:47):
Yep.
Danny (25:48):
That's me, and, I help
with breathing, stretching.
Yeah. We have the we're we'restill looking for more
sponsorship.
Tyler (25:59):
For more sponsors.
Danny (25:59):
We're still
Tyler (26:00):
looking for more
sponsors. Just really grateful
to be in this space and and forthose people that that listen.
You know, we are a 100% selffunded in the podcast. 100%.
We've got Jitsi rings.
We like you said, we promote thethings we like. We don't
necessarily take money for thesethese promotions. We you know,
that's why we're a big proponentfor, you know, pushing jujitsu
and and pushing our academy outthere. If you hear this and come
(26:22):
into the academy and mention us,please, just just so people
know.
Danny (26:26):
And you help you you do
such a good job with the the men
that you're helping and Yeah. And and your little practice
that you have going on.
Tyler (26:32):
We've well, we'll get to
because I've got some we got the
couple other big announcements, but I wanna hear about the trip,
the trip to end all trips.
Danny (26:39):
The trip to end all
trips. So a little bit of
backstory. You know, I have thatwe we have the bus that we
podcast out of. That's mypersonal
Tyler (26:46):
Cobble the bus.
Danny (26:46):
Cobble the bus. It's a
1973 VW transport type 2 bus.
Yep. It's got a high roof, soit's rare. It it performed
unreal.
Tyler (27:00):
How many miles?
Danny (27:02):
So we ended up with just
under 1500 miles Oof. Of travel.
Tyler (27:08):
1500 miles. 1500.
Danny (27:10):
Because, part of the
thing with the part of the thing
is is I had only driven it thefurthest I had driven it was, of
course, I have driven it fromthe Valley of Salt Lake. Like,
I've been I've done a big loopin the Valley of Salt Lake,
Parleys Canyon, Provo Canyon, not consecutively, but just, you
know, an hour, hour and a halfin the bus. We drove to Mirror
(27:31):
Lake Highway, you know, maybe, like, 50 miles.
Tyler (27:35):
Just just kinda checking
out the capabilities.
Danny (27:38):
Making sure that
Tyler (27:38):
Learning the the new
ones. Yeah. Right?
Danny (27:41):
We've we've camped in it
multiple times. And this has
always been my goal is to buysomething that Misty and I can
go sleep in that, like, isnostalgic. Yeah. Like, I've had
a sprinter van. I almost boughta sprinter van, but it it wasn't
exactly what I was looking for.
Plus, the person that I wasgonna buy it from, I'm not
stoked on. And so Yeah. I I hadthat going for me. I bought that
(28:04):
bus, and I will tell you, youknow, we bought some supplies.
We bought some things that wewanted to make sure would make
our trip comfortable.
Yeah. And so we had this ideathat we were gonna leave right
after the camp and then drivefor a week, hang out, go to a
festival in Montana, drive for acouple days home. So do a big
(28:26):
loop. Right? Head up to WhiteSulphur Springs, take our time,
Head home.
Take our time. Right? We hadabout 14 days is what we thought
we were gonna be in the bus. Itended up being 10 days in the
bus, maybe 9, 9, 9 just at 9days because and I'll tell you
why. We leave Sunday, and wehave we're originally, we
(28:50):
thought we were gonna go to LavaHot Springs, so we don't even
buy supplies.
We gas the bus up. We leave, like, around 10 o'clock because
we're kinda like, oh, we're onlydriving to lava, which is just 3
hours.
Tyler (29:00):
3 hours. Yeah.
Danny (29:01):
Well, our travel
companions are like, no. Let's
try to make it to Island Park.Okay. Which is
Tyler (29:10):
About 5 hours.
Danny (29:11):
5 hours. And for Misty
and I, we're thinking, okay.
We're I I averaged the miles, soit's like 260 miles divided by
45, which would have been about8 hours. And it's like, man,
that's kinda far. So what
Tyler (29:25):
if max speed is
Danny (29:26):
My max speed is 45. 45. I
don't know that yet. I think I
can go about 50, 55 when weleave. Because around here, I'm
averaging about 50, 55.
Right? Yeah. So, we head out andplans get changed. I have to
stop and get a fireextinguisher. We're on the road
at 11, and we're like, man, it'sgonna get hot.
(29:47):
Right? So I've never reallydriven my bus in the heat of the
day. I've always been worriedabout that. Like, it's air
cooled. So what happens if I'mdriving and it starts to
overheat?
What do I do? I don't know. I'venever had that happen. Yeah. I
drive in the morning.
Yeah. Or I drive, like, in thepark city, and, you know, it's
80 degrees. Yeah. It's never 95.So we check the temperatures,
(30:08):
and it's forecast to get 98 Oof.
Between Ogden and Pocatello.Right?
Tyler (30:16):
So you're on are you not
taking 80, are you?
Danny (30:18):
We go
Tyler (30:19):
80 to 80
Danny (30:19):
to I15.
Tyler (30:20):
I15.
Danny (30:21):
And I jump on I15, and
there's no way there's it's
windy. Oh, yeah. And and there'sa lot a lot of traffic.
Tyler (30:28):
Okay. Yeah.
Danny (30:29):
And so I'm going 40, 45
miles an hour. Right? And
Tyler (30:32):
we Yeah.
Danny (30:33):
Do we are getting passed.
At one point, we get passed by 2
semis, 1 on the right, and nowthis is a merge lane. So the the
lanes are coming together. 1 onthe right, 1 on the left, and I
have nowhere to go. Gotcha.
And me and Misty are like, oh mygod. We're gonna die. I end up
slowing down to 30 miles anhour, and this other truck is
coming up behind me, and I'mlike, we gotta get off the we
(30:53):
have to we have to find the backroads. Yeah. So we ended up
getting off, having some lunch,regrouping.
I look at the map, and I'm like, okay, Misty. These are the roads
that we're gonna find. Yeah. We're gonna go from here to here
Tyler (31:06):
to here.
Danny (31:06):
Well, now mind you, I am
not shown her how to navigate.
Okay. I tell her this, but sheshe's looking at a map, and
she's like, I don't know whatI'm looking at. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Just look at this, and I'mtrying to teach her, and we kind
of, like, lose our cool witheach other just a tiny bit.
Tyler (31:20):
Yeah.
Danny (31:21):
And I'm like, okay.
Tyler (31:22):
Just working through the
communication.
Danny (31:23):
Let's just just look for
this sign, the street sign. Go
to start the bus. Bus doesn'tstart. Oh, no. We've been
sitting there for now an hour,so it should have cooled off.
Bus won't start. And I'm like,well, I don't know what to do.
And I'm pumping the gas, pumpingthe gas. Bus won't start. So we
sat there for another 30minutes.
Tyler (31:41):
Have triple a? Do you
have I
Danny (31:42):
have triple a. I have
roadside assistance, and I have
a father-in-law who has said, ifyou get on the side of the road,
call me. I'll go get a trailer, and I'll come get you.
Tyler (31:52):
Yeah.
Danny (31:52):
So I have we have backup.
Tyler (31:54):
You you have a you have a
you have a you have a backup and
a backup to backup. Okay.
Danny (31:58):
Man, truth be told, I
have an amazing mechanic as
well. Yeah. And and and heanswers my calls. He answers my
texts. I know he gets frustratedwith me sometimes.
Yeah. And, he I yeah. Yeah. Iended up calling him and being
like, hey. This thing ain'tstarting.
You know? And he tells me, okay. It's too hot. The gas is the gas
(32:25):
is evaporating before it getsinto the carburetor. Hold the
gas pedal down.
It will start. So I held the gaspedal down, start to turn it up.
And we were like, what goodness. So Thank goodness. Thank
goodness.
Yeah. And that changed our tripbecause, you know, we would have
had to stay and stop for 30, 40minutes at each stop Mhmm. To
(32:47):
let it cool down, try to figureit out. It was such a learning
curve for her and I. Yeah.
Once we got onto the back roads,we were like, we could do this
all day long. Yeah. Yeah. Wedon't have supplies. Oh, okay.
So we have to stop at thegrocery store. Right? And I'm
like, Misty, let's just stop inPocatello. Let's just stop.
Let's find a campground.
(33:08):
Let's hang out there, and wewill regroup tomorrow. Yeah. We
go to gas we go to the, we go tothe grocery store. Mind you, we
haven't really eaten very muchthat day, and everything looks
good.
Tyler (33:20):
You're hangry.
Danny (33:21):
So we buy so much
groceries in my mind of, like,
we're we don't have ice. We haveyou know, our coolers Yeah.
Aren't ready to be loaded. Wehave we are we are a nightmare.
So we throw everything, the coldstuff in the cooler, not
organized ice.
We get too much ice, and I'mlike, this is we are so
flustered at this point. Yeah.Plus, we've been in the bus now
(33:43):
for 6 and a half hours, and westill have 2 hours to get to the
campground that we pick. Yeah.We ended up to this campground
and, dude, we got there, and itwas beautiful.
Two Rivers got together. We gotit was the little tiniest
campground. It's called TwinBridges Campground in Greery
Yeah. Yeah. Idaho.
It was amazing, dude. So, wecooked dinner, and moose moose
(34:06):
are walking through our camp, like, right next to us. It was
we were like, this
Tyler (34:09):
is insane. Awesome.
Danny (34:10):
We, string up lights. We
have, the shower that we're
gonna we have this, like, portable shower that we're like,
oh, we can shower. And Misty'slike, hey. I'm kinda ready for
that shower. Let's get the waterready.
So I pour the water in the bag,go to hang up the shower thing,
and I'm like, where the hell amI supposed to hang up this
shower? It's just a canopy or atent looking thing, privacy
(34:33):
tent, and it's almost like youhave to hold the shower up. It's
not it is gravity fed, but thelittle tube is literally
Tyler (34:41):
Yeah. It's It's like a
surgical tubing or something
like that.
Danny (34:44):
Where's the water
supposed to come out? Yeah. So
what ends up happening, we standin the shower together, and I'm
holding this the the showerabove her head. She's, like, low
crawling to try to get the wateronto her. We are, like, what
Tyler (34:56):
Oh, okay. Nightmare.
Danny (34:58):
We're so and we're so
flustered. And, you know, now
we're kind of, like, 9 o'clockat night, and and I'm like, we
just need to get some sleepYeah. Because we we have a 2
hour drive tomorrow. That's allwe have, a 2 hour drive. I have
a campground scheduled for inthe Gallatin Valley.
It's on the river. Beautiful. Wecan sit in the river. We can
(35:19):
hang out. We can talk.
We can play games.
Tyler (35:22):
Yeah.
Danny (35:22):
We bought games. We
bought, stings to paint rocks.
We are, like, we are stoked fortomorrow because we have one day
travel 2 hours.
Tyler (35:30):
2 hours, and then it's
mostly Spend the day. Spend the
day.
Danny (35:33):
Spend the day on the
river.
Tyler (35:34):
And the most amazing
spot. River runs through it.
Danny (35:37):
It is. And spot ever. If
you've ever been to the Gallatin
River Valley, it the river is soclear, so pretty, and the
mountains are so cool. It it'sit's what you dream of. Yeah.
That's in my head, a VW busdriving into Yellowstone. Yeah.
How cool would that be?
Tyler (35:54):
So cold too.
Danny (35:56):
We I am like, tomorrow is
going to be a great day. Yeah.
Wake up. We start packingthings. And mind you, we had
forgot our knives.
So we bought this knife set, andwe both were like, this is
crazy. It doesn't even havesheathing on it. It's just a
knife with a little tip sheet.Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Like, we really need to becareful with these things. We
(36:17):
need to find some sheets forthese things because they're
sharp Yeah. For sure.
Tyler (36:21):
How sharp are they,
Danny?
Danny (36:22):
Well, let me tell you,
Tommy. We are packing up, and
I'm in a you know, I'm on 9
Tyler (36:32):
hours of
Danny (36:33):
sleep plus some beers the
night before. Wake up, and I'm
like, so stoked to get to thisthing. I set I set the knives on
top of a cutting board, on topof my cooler, and I'm going to
move. I bump the cooler. Theknife slips off the cooler and
lands directly on my foot.
Oh. Directly on my foot, Ilooked down, and I'm like, that
(36:56):
cannot have just fuckinghappened.
Tyler (36:58):
It it wasn't sticking
straight?
Danny (36:59):
It went whack. It just it
was just like a like a whack.
Tyler (37:03):
It bounced off.
Danny (37:04):
Fell off. Okay. And I
look at my foot, and when I'm
like, fuck. This is this is
Tyler (37:09):
This is not ideal.
Danny (37:10):
This is not going to
work. And I'm like, Misty, we
need to go to the Instacarebecause I'm gonna have these
stitches. And she comes flyingout of the the bus. What? And
looks at my foot, and she'slike, oh my god.
So what I when I tell you it's a2 inch incision, it's a 2 inch
incision. I don't have superglue. Mhmm. I would have super
(37:34):
glued the damn thing. Yeah.
Yeah. I would have just superglued it. Right?
Tyler (37:36):
Yeah. Yeah. Steri strips
or
Danny (37:38):
Yeah, man. I would have
done Yeah. We guess what? We
don't have. We don't have ourfirst aid kit.
We're gonna get that. We hadplanned to get that before we
got to the council. We had said,oh, we don't we need a first aid
kit. That night, we decided.Yeah.
Dude, so I'm like, I hurry up,wrap my foot, and she's like,
what are you doing? And I'mlike, well, we need I need to
(37:59):
still pack the bus and getgoing. She's like, her face is
kind of pale. Like Yeah. Are wegonna have to go home?
What are we gonna do? Is ourtrip ruined? I'm like, we're
good. It just it's going tosuck.
Tyler (38:12):
It's gonna suck. We're
gonna
Danny (38:14):
We go to an Instacare in
Rexburg. They stitch me up. I
got 6 stitches, but no water.Right? They can't get gas
soaked.
You can't go in the river. Bynow, it's 12 o'clock before we
leave, Pocatello. We still needto get a couple things at
Walmart. It's, you know, we'rewe're we're now in rush hour
(38:34):
traffic. Yeah.
We get to the camp spot about 1o'clock, and it's or sorry. It's
about 2 to 2:30 when we get tothe camp spot. It's as amazing
as I imagine in my head. Yeah.It was Good.
It was just me and I.
Tyler (38:47):
There's some there's
some, you know, good good,
salvage from the the experience.
Danny (38:54):
You know, and we met this
lady that she got there, and her
the camp spot didn't take creditcard. She only had a credit
card. So she's like, is thereany way I can Venmo you the
money and you guys if you havecash? And we said, no. Here.
We'll pay for your camp spot. Sowe paid for her and her 2 kids'
(39:16):
camp spot. Her young kid was afisherman. He was she was
fishing till, like, dark whereshe had to go find him and be
like, hey. Where you at?
And Yeah. I was like, man, didyou find him? There were so many
fun things that happened. We hadsuch an amazing trip. We went to
Red Ant's pants.
We, seen killer artists. Weseen, like, we met cool people.
(39:39):
We we had such a good time inour bus. And, you know, there's
so many stories that I can tellyou that are, like, better for
later later on. Yeah.
But overall, it was exactly whatwe expected. Ex it it did
exactly what we thought. The busran amazing. Our relationship,
(39:59):
we we survived. We thrived.
We're still married.
Tyler (40:02):
Yeah.
Danny (40:03):
We had maybe a couple,
like, tone or Yeah. Yeah. With
each other, but never likeanything crazy. You know, we've
seen, we met some cool bands. Wemet this band, and I'd like to
give them a shout out.
And I'm wearing their hat. They're called Gold Pine. We
talk to them. They're in thecrowd with us. That's the cool
thing about this festival is thethe bands come into the crowd
(40:25):
Yeah.
And watch the other bands. Youmeet them and you start talking
to them and you realize thatthey're just people. Right? They
live in their van. They'retraveling the country.
They go and, to festival tofestival to festival. But one
thing they do is cool. They dohouse parties.
Tyler (40:42):
Oh, wow.
Danny (40:43):
So we're telling them
where we're from, and they're
like, wait. Where are you from? And we're like, we're from Heber
City, Utah. They're like, wewere just there a week ago. And
we're like, no.
And they're like, yeah. Weliterally played a house party a
week ago in Heber City, Utah.Yeah. Heber City, Utah. They
show us, and they're like, yeah.
You know, we ate at Granny's.That's too funny. To, they they
(41:04):
were naming these places, and wewere like,
Tyler (41:06):
whose house party? That's
what I wanna know.
Danny (41:08):
I know whose it is. I
don't have permission to share
who it was. Alright. But, yes, they were here in Hebrew. And
they were like we sat there andtalked to him.
Her she did the national anthemthe morning of, Saturday
morning. No. Friday morning.Yep. Oh, man.
My days are coming together.Saturday morning. She did the
(41:31):
national anthem, and, dude, nailed it. Me and Misty, both
tears rolling down our eyesbecause it was like, this is
amazing. Yeah.
You you meet so many cool peoplethat you come together. You're
you're in a cow field thateverybody's camping together. So
you're sharing stories. You'resharing, you're sharing things.
(41:51):
You're sharing canopies.
You're sharing Yeah. Beers.You're sharing, I I need a
mallet. I I need a hatchet. Ineed I need these things, and
you're sharing them witheverybody.
And you realize what a greatthing it is to be, you know,
part of this country, part ofthis country where you can go
there freely and experience thiswithout any kind of, you don't
(42:15):
have to worry about, like, putting on a show for anyone.
Yeah. There's no anger there. There's no fighting. There's no
person that, like if as soon asyou walk past somebody, if if
something happens, oh, excuseme.
And they're like, oh, excuse me.And Yeah. And you share these
great, things with each other. One of the last funny stories
I'll tell you is we get to a youknow, we spend a couple of lakes
(42:36):
before sorry, a couple of daysat a lake before we get to the
festival. And I only brought 2pairs of shoes with me because I
only wear flip flops or chakos.
Yeah. Right? And my Chaco's aremy festival shoes. I wear them
because everybody has Chaco'sthere, and I always like to have
Chaco Envy. But I want people tohave ChacoEnvy on me as well.
Tyler (42:56):
Yeah. Yeah.
Danny (42:57):
And I have a cool pair of
Chacos that I'm like, man,
people are gonna, like, ask meabout these.
Tyler (43:01):
Yeah. Yeah.
Danny (43:02):
So we, put on we put our
paddle board onto the lake, and
I'm it's one paddle board. SoMisty's sitting and I'm
paddling. And I remembersticking my shoes, my chakos on
the boat thinking to myself, Ineed to hand those to Misty,
which is what I normally do.Mhmm. Hand them to Misty.
She'll put them away while weget we get taken off. Right?
(43:23):
About halfway into this, Ilooked down, and I'm like, oh my
god. I lost one Chaco. Oh, no.
It's gone. It's gone. And I'mlike, how am I going to tell
Misty this? Yeah. And I'm like, hey, Misty.
And she goes, what? And I go, Ilost, Chaco. She's like, what?
And now she looks back, andshe's like, why don't you hand
(43:43):
them to me? And I was like, Imeant to.
You know? Good thing that you'resaying that now.
Tyler (43:47):
Yeah. I meant to.
Danny (43:49):
Yeah. And I'm like, I'm I
can't wear my flip flop. I'm I'm
so bummed now. Yeah. I'm like, nobody's gonna look at my feet
and go, dude, killer chocolates.
Tyler (43:58):
Yeah. Yeah.
Danny (43:59):
And I'm that's all I'm
thinking about, and I'm like,
oh, this is such a bad. And I'mlike, k. We're gonna find it.
I'm gonna find it. I'm gonnafind it.
The wind is blowing to the east. They flow. Right? Yet they flow.
Tyler (44:09):
They flow.
Danny (44:10):
We're heading to the
east. I said, I'm gonna do a big
circle. It's either in themiddle, which maybe I won't
find, or it's on the shore. SoI'm gonna try to take a line a
line sort of in the middle. Atleast I can see the shore.
If I can see the shore, I'll seea an object floating
Tyler (44:28):
Yeah.
Danny (44:29):
Near the shore, or it'll
be in the middle. Right? And so
we're going, and Misty's like, what do you just head back to
camp. And I'm like, we're gonnafind this shoe. I promise we're
gonna find this shoe.
She's like, no way. We're notgonna find it. And I was like,
we're gonna find it. Find thisshoe. I said, I promise you.
We're gonna find this shoe. Sowe're paddling we're paddling,
and she's like, come on. We'regonna find it. And then she
(44:49):
starts to change her mind, andI'm like, let's just say a
prayer. Let's let's let's getour minds right.
Have hot happy thoughts. Havepositive thoughts. We're gonna
find the shoe. Thunder.Lightning.
Start. And we're like, the windpicks up, dude. And it's like,
we need to get to shore. We needto get to shore fast because
here comes a thunderstorm. Yeah.
Tyler (45:07):
Yeah.
Danny (45:08):
So I'm like, we're gonna
find it. We're gonna find it.
And then we're going, and bothof us stay the same time. There
it is.
Tyler (45:15):
There it is.
Danny (45:15):
And it literally is 5
feet in front of us on the line
that we're on. It literally fivefeet in front of us.
Tyler (45:21):
That is amazing.
Danny (45:22):
We we paddle right to it,
grab it, haul ass to shore,
thunderstorm starts, and we getin our bus. We're out of the
wind. We're out of all thestuff, and we were like and the
whole weekend, they kept saying,I cannot believe you found that
Tyler (45:35):
shoe, dude.
Danny (45:36):
And I was like, what a
great experience for myself. You
know, I'm glad you let me, yeah, tell that story. It's kinda been
a long time. I'll have way morestories. There's lots more
things that I think about.
Overall, it it it did exactlywhat it was
Tyler (45:51):
supposed to do. Yeah. I
think you you mentioned before,
like, he was gonna push you andmiss you to kinda grow together
a little bit. And, you know, youknow, there there's some beauty
in that conflict, some conflict.Right?
There's some beauty in in insome conflict. So the fact that
you 2 were able to
Danny (46:06):
Well, we're not kind to
each oh, you know, we're kind to
each other. Right. There's timeswhen Misty and I have been
married for 20 years that wethat we take tones with each
other that we're like, who areyou talking to?
Tyler (46:15):
And you got stressed and
you got like, you're learning
something new. You're out ofyour element. Like, you're
trying to wrangle this bus, which is this dream. And, like,
it's it's perfectly normal. Andto see that you guys came out of
that, you know, unscathed andhappier and, like, are you
planning another trip soon?
Would you do it again that manymiles? Would you
Danny (46:33):
yeah. Yes.
Tyler (46:33):
You're like, oh, now
you've got it down. You feel
like, okay.
Danny (46:36):
Not that so much, but we
yes. We are, planning more
trips. The first quick peoplethe first question that people
ask me is, will you go that faragain?
Tyler (46:46):
Yeah.
Danny (46:47):
Yes. Yes. Every year,
we'll take that bus on that same
trip, and we'll get better.Yeah. Would I like a Sprinter
bus Sprinter van?
Yeah. Yeah. For sure. For sure.It would I mean, like, we were
able to live in that littlesmall minivan, so we would
thrive in a in a beta in a in aSprinter van.
Yeah. We will do some more smalltrips. We're probably not gonna
(47:11):
take it out for a minute becauseI'm kinda Yeah. A little bust
out with, like, driving it. It'svery scary at certain times.
Crosswinds and, you know, withpeople hauling ass around you,
it's not the funnest. Yeah.Finding the back roads was the
key. Finding the back roads, taking the back roads. We didn't
(47:31):
do it.
On the way home yesterday, butthe very end, we came I was
like, oh, I've driven 40 a1000000 times. Yeah. I I thought
we were gonna die. It was sowindy. We were going 30 miles an
hour.
Yeah. It was terrifying. I wasso frazzled, so over it that I
wasn't breathing. My heart ratewas a 100 miles an hour. My neck
hurt.
(47:51):
My back hurt.
Tyler (47:52):
You're tense.
Danny (47:53):
I'm tense. And, but
overall, if you don't take
risks, if you don't pushyourself to be better, if you
don't push yourself to do thethings that scare you, you will
stay stuck in in in where you'reat. Yeah. You want growth.
Right?
As a man, you want growth. Youwant to be able to do hard
(48:13):
things. You want to havesomething put you in a position
that makes you change, alteryour course
Tyler (48:18):
Yeah.
Danny (48:19):
But doesn't change the
fact that you're gonna have a
good time. Yeah. And I think inmy mind, that's what I want to
to push for my for my followers, for my listeners, for my boys,
for my friends, for peoplearound me is to be like, hey. Do
hard things. If it's not hard,if you get comfortable, then
change what you're doing.
(48:39):
Yeah. Go out there. Ask the girlout. Yeah. Chase the job.
Yeah. Live in your bus if youhave to.
Tyler (48:46):
Yeah.
Danny (48:47):
You know, fight back
against somebody that takes a
tone with you that you do notlike. Mhmm. Fight back. Stand
up.
Tyler (48:54):
Have the boundaries. Have
the
Danny (48:56):
boundaries. And,
ultimately, surround yourself
with people that will push youto do things, that will make you
better. Yeah. Right? And Ibelieve that I'm a better person
now after doing that.
And and it's gonna be hard to goback to work because I've been
off work for almost 13 days now.Yeah. And I do not wanna go back
(49:17):
yet. You know?
Tyler (49:18):
So that's kinda hard. I
don't blame you. I don't blame
you. Sounds like an amazingtrip. I'm excited to hear more.
Danny (49:23):
It was amazing, bro.
Excited
Tyler (49:24):
to hear so much more.
And, Yeah. I I think it's
incredible that you 2 did thattrip. Like, I'm very jealous
that traveling together, Ithink, is something that every
couple should do Prior probablyto getting married or in some
form of courtship, like traveltogether. Learn how that person
travels.
Yeah.
Danny (49:42):
Learn learn each other's,
like, like, little Yeah. Little
ticks. Right? Learn eachother's, like, little trigger
points.
Tyler (49:47):
Because that triggers.
Yeah. What are the glimmers?
Yeah.
Danny (49:49):
Misty and I, you know, we
need to remind ourselves of is,
like, there's things that thatthat I'll do that will trigger
her for past traumas, and I haveto remember that it's not me
she's mad at. It's just thingsthat that happened to her, and
there's Yeah. Things like viceversa. Like, I had a rough
childhood. Yeah.
There are there are times whenI'm a gruff person that I'm
aggressive. Mhmm. And I don'tmean to sound aggressive towards
(50:12):
her, but something has happenedthat's triggered me, and now I'm
like, wow. Yeah. And it's nother fault.
And so she does well most of thetime with, like, being like,
hey.
Tyler (50:22):
That's so that's so
impressive. Like, that's a very
similar to the the weekend Ifelt like I had. Right? Like,
this we've talked aboutbenevolence towards violence.
Sure.
But I I came to thisrealization. Like, I used to
have the stepmom that had this, saying, she said, if you're
arguing with an idiot, make surethey're not doing the same
thing. Right. And, and I've kindof taken it a step further and
(50:44):
like the the the hot term thesedays is narcissist. Like, we all
have narcissistic tendencies.
Danny (50:50):
Every one of us.
Tyler (50:50):
Right. But if, like, if
you're arguing with somebody who
has some true cluster bnarcissistic personality traits,
make sure that that you are notdoing the same thing because we
have those as well, and they areour own triggers. And so, like,
this benevolence towards my ownanger and acceptance. And I
listened to an incrediblepodcast between, this amazing
(51:12):
therapist and and, Louis LouisHouse. And and he talks about
his four stages of kinda gettingover the the trauma, and it's it
it was just so fascinating toto, 1, thank thank thank the
trauma.
Like, I've never thought aboutthanking it. Like, think those
things that kept you alive. Theykept you alive. Sure. Whether
they were good for you or badfor you, they kept you alive.
(51:33):
So thank them. 2, you know, understand what they mean. And
I'm probably gonna mess mess allof them up. Understand what they
mean. Learn what they mean.
Danny (51:40):
Learn what they mean.
Tyler (51:41):
Learn what they're
teaching you, and then re re
rehab that experience, reaffirmthe experience. So we we thank
it, we acknowledge it, and wereaffirm the experience. So if
the experience was, I'm notloved, you are loved. Start
telling yourself you are loved. And it's like it's interesting.
I just had this rock bottomweekend with arguing with people
(52:01):
that just didn't I just didn'tneed to do. Sure. And I and I
was feeling really low aboutmyself, and I'm like, I just had
this epiphany that I was justlike, I have to be benevolent
with my anger as well because myanger leads to the violence. And
I and I hadn't really calculatedthat. I had to make that that
self that self correction, butthat that's kinda what I wanted
to leave with the the podcastwith today is just, you know,
(52:24):
understand that that thatbenevolence is needed and not
just towards violence.
Danny (52:30):
Sure. Yeah. It's
interesting with that with that
whole idea of of benevolencebecause, you know, there's
finding a way to be kind is isreally hard.
Tyler (52:42):
And it's not even that I
wanted to be like, I had no
desire to be kind in in thisparticular argument.
Danny (52:48):
And more importantly,
kind to yourself.
Tyler (52:49):
Kind to yourself.
Danny (52:50):
So so what so what I take
from that is, like,
understanding that that angerand and violence is is a
reality. Yes. And sometimes youget angry with yourself Yeah.
Your own self that you'reresponding
Tyler (53:04):
Yes.
Danny (53:04):
That you're acting this
way.
Tyler (53:05):
That I'm reacting
Danny (53:06):
And that you've been
triggered. Mhmm. So instead of
being kind to yourself and, likeYeah. Figuring out those those
ways to reframe everything likewe talk about is hard in that
moment. Yeah.
Because it's hard to be kindYeah. To anybody when you are
frustrated, angry, and nowviolent. Yes. And it does make
(53:27):
you feel it gives you that, like, idea of, like, man, I'm
just so over it. I'm so rockbottom.
I'm so frustrated. And findingways to let yourself off the
hook and then to be kind toyourself, to be understanding of
these things is something that Ithink we all struggle with. One
thing that, you know, like, onething that we would keep saying
(53:48):
to ourselves, and I always andthen we would we thank you is
because when things would gowrong, we'd be like, let's
reframe this. Let's reframe howwe're looking at this. Let's
reframe let's reframe it.
Let's let's look at thisdifferently and be like, okay.
What let's look at this good.
Tyler (54:03):
Or you might tear down
one frame and rebuild it another
way and, like and realize that, okay. That frame was good for a
little bit, but now you'veescalated or you've grown, and
now you need to go through theprocess again. Process again.
It's it's likely that you'regonna have to go through the
process of learning some lessonsmultiple times.
Danny (54:20):
For sure. Yeah. And and I
I I believe I agree with you.
Like, when you are in momentsand you have those weekends and
and you have those those missCummings or or unfortunate
situations with people who whoyou one once cared about, 2 care
(54:41):
about, 3 still have to haverelationships with. It's hard.
Yeah. It's hard because it'slike, man, when is the end of
the when is the light at the endof the tunnel be gonna become
Tyler (54:52):
Yeah.
Danny (54:53):
Daylight?
Tyler (54:53):
And and and growing up in
the in the the with the
childhood that I had, the, thenegativity and the destruction
in my parents' divorce has beenimprinted on me. And there's a
saying, and I think it comesfrom there's a TV show or a
book, that divorce is divorce isan earthquake for 2 people who
used to love each other. But itis a chronic disease for the
(55:15):
children who then have to endureit.
Danny (55:16):
For sure.
Tyler (55:17):
And as a child who had to
endure parents who do not like
each other to this day, it is itis a burden on those children.
Danny (55:26):
Sure.
Tyler (55:26):
And and my my personal
goal was to never be that. My my
goal was to never be divorced. Ithink, that was probably a very
high expectation and unrealisticexpectation I put on myself, and
I do hold myself to a reallyhigh standard.
Danny (55:40):
Sure. Still. Still. Even.
Yeah.
Tyler (55:44):
I'm I'm always I'll be my
worst critic
Danny (55:45):
till the day
Tyler (55:46):
I die until you know? I'm
not I'm I'm I'm yeah. I I think
that I just knew that I did notwant to to have to have that
type of relationship. Right? Atthe same time, I I've learned a
lot about who I am.
I've learned a lot about how I,am a recovering people pleaser,
(56:10):
how I would allow certainbehavior to take place, at my
own expense. And I'm no longer Inow have a nonnegotiable where I
will not allow that in my life.Sure. And and I may not have the
best reaction, and I don't wannabe reactionary. I want I I may
not have the best reaction.
(56:30):
I may not have all the tools Ineed to to defend, and I may not
defend the right way, but I'mgoing to defend, you you know,
that that nonnegotiable. Sure.
Danny (56:42):
And then and then also
instill that same concept in
your children so that your 50%of what you're giving to your
misjudgments. He does thingsthat are wrong. He makes he
makes some misjudgments. He doesthings that are wrong. He makes
he makes some poor choices, buthe always is there for me.
(57:05):
Yep. He always stands up for me.Yep. And he always has my back.
100%.
No questions asked.
Tyler (57:11):
Yeah. Yeah. And it's it's
easy to it's easy in divorce for
parents to alienate
Danny (57:16):
their children. For sure.
Tyler (57:17):
And I definitely looking
back, I see times where I didn't
have much of a voice because, you know, I was very quickly
thrust into a position, choosechoose a parent. Can you imagine
being 8 years old and being in acourtroom and having a judge
tell you, pick a parent? No. Andyou're just terrified that
you're gonna upset somebody andyou one
Danny (57:37):
of them.
Tyler (57:37):
And and you're you know,
you're just just you're a child.
Right? And that's that's verymuch what I had to experience.
And so, you know, you you pickyour mother at the expense of
your father. You pick yourfather at the expense of your
mother.
Danny (57:49):
For sure.
Tyler (57:49):
Nobody wins, And and it
it you know, one person is is
resent. And and to be honest, itwasn't it wasn't my fault. Sure.
I didn't choose to be born. Ididn't choose to be born to
these 2 people, and I didn'tchoose to be born in this
ecosystem.
I had to I have to reframe howhow I exist in that ecosystem.
So,
Danny (58:09):
well and I've always
appreciate the, your your
willingness to share some ofthose story because, I mean,
we'd like to share more aboutYeah. You know, what's going on.
And and maybe one day we'll getto that point. But I do believe,
like, men struggle with thosethings because you're not giving
the playbook. You're not givingthose skills as a man, and we're
(58:31):
not giving the idea to shareemotions, to be emotional, to to
have emotions.
Most of the time, you're told tosuck it up, toughen up, man up.
Don't be pussy. Yeah. Get on geton get on with your life. Yeah.
Get on with this. Get on get onwith it. Right? And, one one
thing that I value about you isthat your your willingness to
share, emotions and the factthat you sometimes are an open
(58:57):
book even if people don't likeit. You tell Yeah.
You tell what happened. You tellyour side of it.
Tyler (59:02):
Mhmm.
Danny (59:02):
And
Tyler (59:03):
And I don't wanna do it
at the expense of these other
people, but at the same time, Ido believe there's a value in
telling this story. I thinkwhat's interesting, and I'm not
I'm not saying this to be poorme, but I think there are men
that get into situations wherethey are abused.
Danny (59:20):
Agreed.
Tyler (59:21):
They are abused by either
a narcissistic partner, by a
bipolar partner, by a partner, that has some sort of borderline
personality disorder. There areI we could talk about, this this
fight with this Craig Jonesfight that that he's been hyping
with this girl. But, like, thereare there are men that that get
(59:41):
in in in situations where theybecome abused, and they cannot
talk about it. Right. Theycannot talk about it.
Just like they won't that we mengenerally won't talk about,
being sexually abused.
Danny (59:54):
Agreed.
Tyler (59:54):
Men will definitely not
talk about being physically or
emotionally or or or abused inin the in that sense. Agreed.
Danny (01:00:02):
Yeah. Yeah, man. That
what a what a what a what a
topic to cover at another time.Right? Because, man, that's an
that can get to a deep dark holebecause
Tyler (01:00:09):
Yeah.
Danny (01:00:10):
But but I do agree with
you. Like, I know you're not
poor me. I know you're nottrying to be, like but there are
times when you're emotional andyou and it is. Like, it does it
it is like, yeah. I'm strugglingtoday.
Yeah. Yes. I'm struggling today.Yes. I'm struggling today.
Yeah. 100 100%. There are timeswhen I'm like, yeah. Today, I'm
struggling. Yep.
Today, I'm struggling. I if I'mangry, if I'm short with
(01:00:35):
somebody, it's probably becauseI have some emotion in my body,
and I'm not able to process it.I was not given the tools by my
parents Yeah. To process theseemotions. I'm learning.
I'm growing. I'm a project. I'mRight. I'm always a better
version of Danny yesterday Yeah. And 10 years ago.
I'm not I never looked back atmyself and go, man, I wish I
(01:00:56):
could change this. I don'tbutterfly affect anything. Yeah.
But there are times when I'mlike, I did not like that
version of Danny. Mm-mm.
And I'm going to change thattoday. You know, one thing that
Misty and I did that was so coolis every day we prayed, and
every day we along our trip, wewould, you know, do some sort
of, like, talk to God. That'scool. Be like, hey. Thank you.
(01:01:17):
Gladys. Thank you so much. Thankyou so much for Yeah. Giving us
this life, for showing us theway, for being there for us, and
letting us to to put our stresson you Yeah. About about some of
the things that we're stressedabout.
Yeah. And we both, like, it madeus a little bit stronger and and
build my relationship with Godand build my relationship with a
higher power that I talk about, you know, and that I think that
is important for for us to dobecause sometimes you just have
(01:01:40):
to put the burden on somebodyelse.
Tyler (01:01:41):
Yeah. No. And I think
that's that's so interesting you
say that, putting the burden onsomebody else. Like, I spent the
the the weekend really soulsearching. Right?
I said I hit this rock bottom.I've had this idea for a long
time. I've I've been coachingmen. I have several men that
I've coached and and stillcontinue to coach whether they
they're exiting a high demandreligion or they're they've
they've gone through a divorce. They're generally in a safe safe
(01:02:04):
space.
I want to expand that practice, but what I've realized is that I
don't have the toolset that Ineed to really be impactful. So
I have applied to go back andget a master's degree. I'm still
on the fence. Do I do I pull thetrigger and do this? But I am
Sick, dude.
(01:02:25):
I was accepted to Northwestern.I was also accepted to National
University. I'm waiting to hearback from, UVU. Congratulations.
Yeah.
Going back and becoming a alicensed marriage and family
therapist. Tyler? Yeah. So
Danny (01:02:39):
Dude, Tyler. That is
sick, bro.
Tyler (01:02:41):
I just feel like I I
there's a saying I used to say.
I didn't I didn't I wanted arelationship, not a degree in
psychology. Actually, I did wantthe degree in psychology. I
didn't I didn't know it at thetime, but, like, when I look at,
like, my personality type, whenI look at what I'm really
passionate about, what I reallywanna do, when you take those,
like, personality tests, like, they all tend to lead towards,
(01:03:03):
like, either bus driver ortherapist. And I'm like, I don't
really wanna drive a bus.
Danny (01:03:07):
Be around that many kids.
Tyler (01:03:08):
Yeah. Yeah.
Danny (01:03:09):
Congratulations, bro.
That is huge news.
Tyler (01:03:12):
On on top of that, we
have another announcement.
Danny (01:03:15):
I'm ready.
Tyler (01:03:15):
You ready for it? We
Danny and I have alluded to this
for a long time that we havethis other project going on.
Danny (01:03:20):
Yeah.
Tyler (01:03:22):
And over the weekend, I
just like you said, you were you
were pushing yourself to dosomething big. I met with my one
of my mentors that I I thatmentors my business, and he
said, just do the thing. Just dothe thing. So we have soft
launched Vessi. Our website isnow up for crowdfunding for our
(01:03:42):
contrast spa.
Yeah. So we are in the processof raising funds to to start a
sauna slash cold plunge here inHeber. And we have some
Danny (01:03:52):
To develop a space Yeah.
For people to come, to learn, to
to have Yeah. The ability tolearn with somebody of of how
