‘Hurt people hurt people’ is often true, but not always...
Sometimes, hurt people don’t hurt other people.
And sometimes, people who haven’t been hurt hurt other people.
Why does it matter?
It actually matters significantly with how we show up in human relationships and how we approach and respond to harmful, abusive behavior - both in ourselves and in others.
I believe understanding the nuance around this and transcending black and white thinking will be key as we co-create and step into the new paradigm of relationships.
There are some things I’ve learned along the way in 15 years of assisting people therapeutically and also my personal life, and some of those things blew the lid off of some assumptions I was making about humanity and what true love and care is, what true ‘helping’ is. I want to share these things with you.
In this episode, I speak about:
* the wrong assumption that trauma always underlies everything
* how we often enable bad behavior (unintentionally)
* the rescuer side of things and what we need to own
* the roots of narcissism and abusive behavior
* spiritless humans
* moral relativism as an agenda to erode all boundaries
* not all misbehavior is caused by trauma
* permissive parenting causes dysfunction
* facets of healthy character development
* healing the relationship between men + women
* healthy shame vs toxic shame
* the empath-narcissist trap
* what many therapists got wrong
* transmuting victim consciousness without losing self compassion
