Health is closely related to our emotional states. Emotions arise as a consequence of events, but they are interpreted through our personal histories. While our histories have many layers, most are stored in the unconscious mind. Negative emotions are based on fear and affet the body by subjecting it to stress, which in turn is the cause of most illnesses, and what is stress but fear? Fear of not being enough, of not getting the promotion, of losing your job, of being rejected, of not being loved. Other negative emotions, which all have their basis on fear, affect us in other ways also.
Stress is prologed over time. The body's response to fear/stress occurs in one of three ways: fight, flight or freeze. The body fills with stress harmones designed to facilitate these responses.
When our body is afraid, all cells pause their metabolic functions. The immune system weakens, and our circulation constricts, preparing the body for an imminent attack. Prolonged fear, or stress, causes all kinds of physical symptons, such as headaches, stomach upset, frequent infections, eating problems, anxiety, high blood pressure, food intolerances, and many other disorders.
The body is exhausted from constantly preparign to fight or flee, even though this doesn't happen. When the body has invested all its resources in dealing with what it's perceiving as immediate danger, it has very few left to eprform other vital functions, such as maintaining the immune system, detoxifying organs, or repairing tissues. No wonder we get sick!
