Hate Crime Precedent | Mercedes Williamson & Dime Doe

Episode 13: in honor of Pride Month we are sharing the cases of Mercedes Williamson and Dime Doe, 2 transgender women who were murdered because of their gender identity. These 2 cases set a precedent for hate crimes as they were the first 2 cases tried under the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, passed in 2009 by President Obama.
