This week we celebrate Trinity Sunday. The Triune nature of our God is a mystery ‘more than we can bear’ (John 16:12b) as this week’s Gospel reading says. Have you ever tried to use a tripod and have one leg collapse? Or have you put one on the ground and noticed it wouldn’t stand until you made sure all the legs were the same length? When you get it right you have a really steady camera stand, or easel for your next piece of art. This week we spend time thinking about how God is one and yet three distinct persons. This kind of unity is only poorly imagined through the analogy of the tripod- as humans we cannot fully picture the amazing unity of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Imagine the closest, most loving relationship you have ever had, and then multiply that by infinity! You will still not know the full love and wholeness the three persons of the Trinity share. May we as God’s church be blessed with growing in that same unity and love. Amen.
