Nick (00:41):
So it's October, or, well,
not yet, but we're getting
close.
We will be.
It's, we're getting close.
My, I
Joni (00:47):
still pretty warm out for
Nick (00:49):
I know it's like 90
degrees outside, but, my
favorite holiday of the wholeyear is coming up.
And also today's the favorite
Joni (00:55):
season is coming up, or
it's here
Nick (00:57):
I like fall.
Joni (00:58):
But the nights feel like
fall, the day
Nick (01:00):
are, yeah, it's hot.
It's like a 40 degree swingevery day where
Joni (01:04):
regular Midwest weather.
Nick (01:06):
I just wanna say off the
bat, I am suffering from a bit
of a head cold.
So if my voice is raspy orscratchy, please forgive me, but
I'm fighting something off andJoni's gonna have to carry us
through this show.
No, I'm
Joni (01:16):
No, I'm fighting him off.
Nick (01:18):
today's a big day for our,
Jacko Lantern, Mickey Tumblr
giveaway.
Joni (01:22):
Oh yeah.
Nick (01:23):
So that's
Joni (01:23):
Yep, it is.
And we have a, um, an addedsurprise to our winner to throw
in there.
Nick (01:27):
We do.
Yeah, we do.
Joni (01:29):
Just a little something
extra to say Hey,
Nick (01:31):
say hey.
And, thank you for listening.
Yeah.

Joni (01:54):
That's.
Nick (01:55):
So let's get right into
the news.
Joni (01:57):
Okay.
Nick (01:58):
This shouldn't be
surprising at all, but all of
the Mickey's not so scary.
Halloween party is now sold out.
Joni (02:04):
Oh,
Nick (02:05):
No more dates available.
So if you were looking to go tothat, um, they are all sold out.
If you are looking to go to thatand you're gonna be there,
there's a rare chance.
I mean, you never know.
You could go to the ticket boothor call Disney.
'cause sometimes people
Joni (02:20):
they'll drop some extras.
Cancel.
Nick (02:21):
and they have some extras
in there, whatever.
Don't count on it and don't bedisappointed if they say no
'cause they most likely will.
But things do happen
Joni (02:29):
worth a try.
Nick (02:31):
And going on to the very
merry Christmas party at Magic
Kingdom.
November 10th is sold out alongwith November 7th, November 7th
is the opening night, so nosurprise there that that's sold
out, but now November 10th isnow unavailable as well.
Joni (02:46):
well.
Nick (02:46):
And also, I'm kind of
confused about this'cause we'll
get to it in a minute, but thephoto studio where Bibo boutique
participants could get theirphoto pass that has permanently
closed.
Joni (02:57):
What?
Nick (02:58):
Well, hold on, get that on
in a
Joni (02:59):
holding on, but,
Nick (03:00):
on.
But, so, but the, I could notfind anywhere.
Where they are doing the photosnow.
I don't know if they're goinginto Bibby Bobby and doing it.
I, I couldn't find out.
I have no idea.
I looked several places.
I found nowhere
Joni (03:13):
When did it close?
Closes?
Nick (03:15):
It closed this week.
Joni (03:16):
it's closed,
Nick (03:17):
It, it's permanently
closed.
The reason it's closed isbecause Disney is announcing in
early October, the newenhancements that are coming to
Bimbo
Joni (03:25):
Oh yeah.
Nick (03:26):
So they're saying
simplified packages will make
the process earlier and thefairy godmother will visit with
guests.
Joni (03:32):
Mm-hmm.
Not all the time though.
She'll make guest
Nick (03:35):
It's, I don't think it's a
guaranteed thing.
But they're announcing that inearly October.
Various is confused on where thephoto pass are currently taking
pictures.
Now, if the old one closed,
Joni (03:45):
Well, I know who would
know.
Nick (03:46):
the fairy godmother Well.
It's
Joni (03:48):
The rope drop people or
any cast member that is in the
park
Nick (03:53):
Yeah.
Joni (03:53):
would know.
Nick (03:54):
I did not reach out to any
cast
Joni (03:56):
to any cast member.
No,
Nick (03:57):
but I did scour the
Joni (03:58):
or at the customer desk.
Where you would reserve yourscooters or
Nick (04:02):
I, I, I can't imagine
they're not you taking pictures.
Maybe they're going behind thecastle or something.
I, I don't know.
But yeah, I could not findanywhere where they were doing
it temporarily.
Joni (04:13):
Well, something that that
will just have to be looked into
upon arrival.
Nick (04:16):
If, you know, reach out to
us and let us know.
Yeah.
Tell us on the Facebook page incase anybody else is, you know,
wondering now if they have atrip coming up.
But, you would think they wouldhave something in the works
before they close the other one.
I don't know.
But that's it for Magic Kingdom.
Yeah.
Not
Joni (04:31):
not very much.
Nick (04:32):
No.
There's not a lot of news thisweek at all.
Joni (04:35):
Okay,
Nick (04:35):
So over at Hollywood
Studios, a large portion of the
animation courtyard, includingStar Wars Launch Bay, is now
permanently closed.
September 24th was the last dayof operation for Star Wars
Launch Bay.
And we all, they did announcethey're putting in the, the new
Walt Disney Studios inspiredarea, including the return of
the, no, no, no.
This is for the, the animationcourtyard, including the return
(04:57):
of the magic of Disneyanimation.
So yeah, launch Bay is nowclosed.
Now there was some charactermeet and greets in there.
They have moved.
Joni (05:07):
Oh, who was in there?
Wasn't that back in the area?
That was kind of like desolate
Nick (05:11):
Yeah, it was
Joni (05:11):
a while.
Yeah,
Nick (05:12):
in the corner.
Joni (05:13):
Okay.
They would do a lot of DisneyJunior
Nick (05:15):
Yeah, Disney Junior was
over there too.
So guests can now meet DarthVader at Star Tours and the
Times are available on the, myDisney Experience app and guests
can meet Chewbacca near theMillennium Falcon in Galaxy's
Edge.
So those two characters havemoved.
So
Joni (05:31):
so let me just let, let me
just make a comment.
I don't know what social site Iwas on, but I saw, and I think
it was an old timey commercial.
When Star Tours first came out,it had Darth Vader and a couple
of Storm Troopers.
Going up to Star Tours, but ithad the gate and saying,
temporarily closed, or we'llreopen shortly, or whatnot.
(05:54):
So they go about their day andyou see Darth Vader and the
Storm Troopers riding on Dumbo.
And you see, you see'em enjoyingthemselves throughout the park.
And then they come back to StarTours and it's still got the
rope and then of.
Finally Dar, they just like lookat each other and then Dar Vader
takes out the some sort of lasergun or whatnot and shoots the
door open and then they go intoStar Tours.
(06:14):
I just thought it was so cute.
It's
Nick (06:16):
it was an old commercial.
Joni (06:17):
it was an old commercial
and it was for Star Tours, but
it was kind of fun.
I'd never seen that
Nick (06:22):
that does sound funny.
They were like walking aroundthe park going on rides and
stuff.
Joni (06:25):
stuff.
Yeah, and they're on the ridesroller coasters.
They got their hands up.
Nick (06:30):
showed me when you found
it.
I'd like
Joni (06:31):
so funny.
Nick (06:32):
So funny.
Joni (06:33):
Oh, it was funny and I
don't know what side I saw that
on or who posted it or who mighthave have it, but if, if I find
it, I will put it on the, I'llhave Nick put it on the
Nick (06:41):
the Facebook.
Yeah, that's funny.
I would like to see
Joni (06:43):
Or somewhere.
Nick (06:44):
And the construction
materials have arrived at the
former Star Wars Galactic StarCruiser Hotel.
That building, as we know wementioned a few weeks ago, is
going to be turned into a,Imagineering office.
Okay.
Joni (06:56):
That's the one I was
talking
Nick (06:57):
Yeah.
Yep.
Okay.
So that is, uh, that's movingalong.
The materials are arrivingthere.
Okay.
Over an animal kingdom.
This is exciting.
This was not mentioned until, until this week.
Jared Bush, the co-director andwriter of Encanto, has revealed
that he is actively working onthe upcoming Encanto ride
that's, being built at Tropicalof Americas and Animal Kingdom.
(07:21):
In a post on social media, Bushshared flying home from Europe,
and my plain homework will bewriting the new dialogue for the
Encanto attraction at AnimalKingdom, which means new words
for the magical, fantasticfamiliar madrigal.
You'll not believe what theimagineers are cooking up.
So
Joni (07:38):
trying to, I'm trying to
like in my head picture how
this, it's a roller coaster
Nick (07:42):
No, it, no, it's, no,
it's, they haven't really
announced, but it's an
Joni (07:47):
Attraction.
An attraction, yeah.
Oh, okay.
You
Nick (07:48):
take place in the house.
Okay.
Joni (07:50):
Because I was like, okay.
So they're gonna have tiles thatare bouncing up and down like,
like the casita and
Nick (07:55):
like in, yeah, it's gonna
be in the house.
So yeah, it's gonna be an
Joni (07:59):
it's gonna have the magic
doors.
Nick (08:00):
sure.
Everything from the movie, anything in the
Joni (08:03):
Well, and then the little
boy, I can't remember the little
boy's name, but his whole roomis jungle.
Nick (08:07):
the jungle.
Joni (08:07):
So it might be mostly
based around that, since it's
animal kingdom.
Nick (08:11):
Could be.
I mean, it could be a virtualride, you know, like,
Joni (08:13):
huh?
Nick (08:14):
Like Remy or something
like that, or,
Joni (08:16):
That would be fun.
I love Remy.
Nick (08:18):
I do too.
Joni (08:19):
Okay.
Nick (08:20):
Okay.
And also over at Animal Kingdom.
I know we had some sad news lastweek, but we have some,
uplifting news this week.
I don't know how to, I don'tknow if you say his name, Bao or
Bao, I think it's Bao.
The new baby Tiger that wasborn, turned one on September
26th.
Joni (08:35):
Well, is it with an A or
an O-B-A-K-S-O.
Nick (08:39):
Bao?
I'm thinking.
Or it could be Bao.
So the
Joni (08:42):
Well, happy birthday
little Tiger Guy.
Nick (08:44):
at Disney's Animal Kingdom
made a birthday cake out of his
favorite snacks, goat milk, blood from meat and rice.
Joni (08:52):
Mm, yummy.
Nick (08:52):
Sounds delicious.
So happy birthday.
Joni (08:55):
Yeah.
Nick (08:56):
and I wish I
Joni (08:57):
play the birthday song,
but it doesn't pick up.
Nick (09:01):
Nope.
Our background will, or ourbackground editor will.
Cut that out.
Joni (09:05):
Yep.
Nick (09:06):
And Disney has announced
that they're bringing back after
hours events at Magic KingdomHollywood Studios and Epcot in
2026.
Okay.
So they're coming back.
Oh, wow.
So people that like that, that'sa separate ticketed event.
You get to basically stay thereafter hours.
You get in at, I don't rememberwhat time, four or six.
(09:27):
So, I mean, you get in early, you know, it's not like 10 to 12
or something.
You get in, you know.
You get in, you get to go inearly, not just for the closing
hours of the
Joni (09:37):
So remind, refresh me.
So if you want a day ticket, theday ticket is separate than the
after hours
Nick (09:42):
Yes.
This is a separate,
Joni (09:43):
an add-on.
Nick (09:44):
a separate ticketed
Joni (09:44):
It's a separate ticket.
Oh, a separate whole ticket.
It's not you.
So if you have a day ticket, youcan't just add on and stay the
whole
Nick (09:50):
day, you could buy both
tickets.
Joni (09:51):
Well, I, I'm, I'm thinking
money wise, like if the add-on
price would be a little bit lessexpensive than.
If it would be cheaper if youalready had a day ticket
purchased as opposed to justpurchasing the evening
Nick (10:02):
no, no, no.
They're okay.
Yep.
You'd have to buy both.
Joni (10:05):
Well the nice thing about
that is that the parks are
pretty much cleared out and youhave,
Nick (10:10):
Low
Joni (10:11):
don't wanna say free rain,
but Yeah.
Nick (10:12):
they only less times.
Yeah.
They only only sell a certainamount of those.
Joni (10:17):
So
Nick (10:17):
Mm-hmm.
So that's it.
That's all I have for news
Joni (10:19):
the parks are super nice
to see at nighttime.
Nick (10:21):
Yes, they are.
Joni (10:22):
No matter which one you're
in.
I
Nick (10:23):
especially, you know,
animal Kingdom, I, I know I've
said it so many times, but, andthey built this Pandora,
Joni (10:30):
mm-hmm.
Nick (10:31):
which is absolutely
beautiful at night.
Joni (10:32):
mm-hmm.
Nick (10:33):
And you don't get to see
it much.
Yeah.
I mean, it's stunning at night.
Joni (10:37):
Yeah.
Well, I think they're all nice.
I mean, I even like walkingaround Hollywood Studios with
the, what do you say?
I mean, what's the proper wordthat it would be like, I don't
wanna say old timey and datepeople or you know, make it
sound like it, but
Nick (10:48):
the classic Hollywood
feel.
Vibe.
Yeah.
And Slinky Dog is much better atnight.
Joni (10:54):
Oh yeah, for sure.
Nick (10:55):
Dog's great at night just
'cause Toy Story, you know all
those lights, those,
Joni (10:59):
All, everything.
Nick (10:59):
Yep.
Joni (11:00):
Everything's better at
night.
They all are.
'cause they all have differentvibes.
Nick (11:05):
Tower Tara's awesome at
night.
Joni (11:06):
Yeah.
Nick (11:07):
Yeah,
Joni (11:08):
Yeah, you get up there and
then the window's open and you
can see the whole park all litup.
Yeah.
Fabulous.
Okay,
Nick (11:13):
that's it for news.
Okay.
Let's get on to our,
Joni (11:15):
any miscellaneous news?
Nick (11:16):
was the miscellaneous did.
Joni (11:17):
the miscellaneous.
Oh, that was it.
Oh, okay.
Nick (11:20):
That was miscellaneous,
you know,'cause it really wasn't
park specific.
It was kind of general, but,
Joni (11:24):
easy peasy on you this
Nick (11:26):
Yeah.
Pretty easy.
Joni (11:27):
Okay,
Nick (11:28):
so let's,
Joni (11:28):
well, good.
Thanks.
Nick (11:30):
of lantern, Mickey time.
Joni (11:32):
you wanna do the cup?
Sure.
Yeah.
Okay,
Nick (11:34):
do it.
Do the cup.
And, I, in our spotlight onattraction, and we're not
getting into that right now, butI'm just gonna preface it by
saying what we're doing thisweek is one of my favorite
attractions in all of DisneyWorld.
Joni (11:44):
Oh.
Nick (11:45):
So.
I thought you were getting setup over
Joni (11:47):
I am set.
I'm totally set up and I thoughtwhat you were gonna say had some
sort of correlation to this.
Nothing, but
Nick (11:52):
had nothing to do with
anything.
Joni (11:54):
points.
Nick (11:55):
Zero points.
It's my head being foggy andwe're just gonna go with it.
Joni (11:58):
We're just talking about
whatever.
Nick (12:00):
Okay.
I have the list
Joni (12:02):
Okay.
I got the wheel.
We're going.
Nick (12:04):
is for the Mickey Jacko
Lantern Tumblr.
Okay.
And is really cool.
Tumblr
Joni (12:08):
Yeah.
Nick (12:09):
I'm gonna have to order
one for myself.
Joni (12:11):
Did you post it anywhere?
Nick (12:13):
Yeah, it's on the blog.
Okay.
Yeah, it's a picture of it onthe blog.
Joni (12:16):
us.
All right, well, we're spinning.
Nick (12:18):
We're spinning.
Yeah.
Joni (12:18):
Yep.
Okay.
And number six.
Nick (12:23):
Number six.
We got a low number.
Yeah.
Number six is Katie.
Joni (12:28):
Katie, congratulations.
All right, Katie.
You
Nick (12:31):
You have a Mickey.
Enjoy it.
Jack-o-lantern mug.
Tumblr, I'm sorry.
Joni (12:37):
Hot or cold.
Hot
Nick (12:38):
Yeah, it's hot and cold.
Yes.
I should have, I should havementioned that.
Coffee or, you know, ice wateror, um, or whatever you wanna
put in there.
Cold
Joni (12:45):
tea or
Nick (12:46):
Katie, you have the
numbers 1 9 9 3 in your email
address, so congratulations,Katie.
Yeah,
Joni (12:53):
super.
And we have a little, little, little extra that we're gonna
throw in there for you
Nick (12:57):
Yep.
You get, you get a participationprize.
Yeah.
Or no?
Yeah.
We're, we're gonna
Joni (13:02):
hope you like it.
Yeah.
Nick (13:04):
So we will be emailing you
later this week to get your
address.
Joni (13:08):
Congratulations.
And, and if you, if you wouldlike to, post a picture of it
with your favorite drink inside.
Nick (13:14):
Absolutely.
On the Facebook, group.
Disney World Tips and Talk.
Joni (13:17):
be nice.
Nick (13:18):
That'd be nice.
So make sure you're checkingyour promotion and your, um, all
your inboxes, basically, theylike to go to the promotion
folder sometimes for whateverreason.
Joni (13:27):
Okay.
Okay.
Well thanks to everybody forbeing involved with it and stay
there because we're gonna havemore.
Nick (13:34):
and we're gonna have more.
And we're, you know, we just, wegive away these posters randomly
too,
Joni (13:37):
Yeah.
Yep.
We sure do.
Okay, wonderful.
Nick (13:41):
All right.
Spotlight on attraction.
Alright.
Like I said, this is one of myfavorite in all Disney World.
It's, and it's something thatyou wouldn't think,
Joni (13:48):
you like to introduce
Nick (13:49):
Should I?
I can.
Since I, since I enjoy it so
Joni (13:51):
Yeah.
Nick (13:53):
This, I don't
Joni (13:54):
your thunder away.
Nick (13:55):
week is going to be Phil
Har Magic.
Joni (13:59):
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
So Mickey's Phil Har Magic inFantasyland is a 3D Fantasy
Adventure Theater show featuringDonald Duck, where Disney Magic
meets Disney music.
Nick (14:09):
So
Joni (14:10):
You have a seat in a
concert hall that features 150
foot wide, 180 degree seamlesswraparound screen as the lights
dim, put on your 3D operaglasses and get immersed.
And as Donald tries his hand atconducting a concert, after
donning Mickey's sorcerer hatplunge into Donald's dream world
(14:30):
with some of Disney's classicalmusical sequences.
Such as be our guest and part ofyour world and much more.
There's obviously no age orheight requirement.
It seats this theaterapproximately 494 seats, and
then you have the aisle alwaysfor scooters or wheelchairs., As
(14:51):
I said, it's kind of a crescentshaped theater seating.
Nick (14:55):
Mm-hmm.
Joni (14:55):
It's a tier two multipass
and, again, you get to stay in
your wheelchairs and or scooterAssisted listening devices are
available as well as handheldcaptioning devices.
The show is about 12 minutes andit opened in Walt Disney World,
September 30th, 2003.
Nick (15:16):
Some
Joni (15:16):
info is some very special
facts.
The show features child friendlyin-house special effects
Throughout the presentation, these effects create, further
immersion.
Nick (15:26):
immersion,
Joni (15:27):
For yourself into the
adventure.
And they include light splashesof water and other surprises.
And don't forget to look at thewall in the back of the theater
at the end of the show to spotour favorite trouble causing
animatronic duck.
Because if you don't look, Imean you can hear it, but if you
(15:49):
don't look back, you don't seeit, there is something visually
that, that is kind of cute
Nick (15:53):
And you're gonna see
everybody looking back.
So you're gonna be like, oh, incase you forget, you know,
you're gonna see everybody turntheir head.
Joni (15:58):
Yeah.
So that's what I have on thatsuper cute show.
Nick (16:01):
Just like I said, one of
one of my favorite attractions.
I mean, you know, if you'venever been in there,'cause
you're like, oh, I don't want togo see a movie.
It is, it is really, reallycool.
I you will enjoy it.
And
Joni (16:12):
They have, um, they have,
um, little snippets from The
Little Mermaid,
Nick (16:16):
Oh yeah.
They're all, all your, all themusic.
Yeah.
Joni (16:19):
Um, and it, I can't, I
can't remember.
Might be a little mermaid wherethe jewels come out and it looks
like they're coming at you.
Yeah.
It's so cute because you see allthese kids with their hands out
trying to grab the jewel.
It's so cute
Nick (16:34):
anything starts flying at
you in 3D all the kids, you see
all the kids trying to grab
Joni (16:37):
Yeah.
Nick (16:38):
Yeah.
And basically Donald goesthrough several Disney movies,
Joni (16:42):
Yeah.
All in, in Aladdin.
All in attempts to try toreclaim the hat.
That's.
Has been, hijacked basically.
but yeah.
Super cute.
Yeah, we, we do it every timewe're there
Nick (16:54):
time.
I think last time we did it twotimes, we
Joni (16:57):
did.
Nick (16:58):
I think the time before
that we did it two
Joni (17:00):
Yeah.
Yeah.
And I mean, and it for 12minutes.
I mean, if you really need anair
Nick (17:04):
Yeah.
Air conditioning.
Exactly.
That's what I was gonna say,
Joni (17:06):
with it being a theater,
you can get a lot of people in
there.
So.
Nick (17:09):
Yep, yep.
And it's, you know, if it's only12 minutes,
Joni (17:12):
one point I will make
though, and an an additional, I
suppose, is that when you go in,the cast members will ask you to
move all the way down to theend.
Yeah.
Nick (17:24):
To fill in all the
Joni (17:25):
Yeah.
So if you're one of the firstones through the door, you're
gonna be on the right side ofthe theater, the far right side
of the theater.
So a little hint, if you'rewanting to be more centrally
located, let some people go inahead of you.
Nick (17:38):
Just kind of hang back
outside.
Yeah.
You know, don't go into thequeue and clog it up, but just
hang back outside.
Joni (17:42):
Yeah, we always, sit
centrally.
Nick (17:45):
We try to, yeah.
Yeah.
Joni (17:46):
Yeah.
But they do try to fit in asmany people as they can with
each showtime.
So
Nick (17:50):
a big theater too.
It's
Joni (17:51):
Well, 490, like, what'd I
say?
Nick (17:53):
4 94 I think you said.
Joni (17:55):
Plus, um, aisle space
Nick (17:57):
Mm-hmm.
Joni (17:58):
on the ends.
There's no aisles down themiddle.
Nick (18:00):
Yep.
Just one long continuous row ofseats.
Yeah.
Joni (18:05):
But it is cute.
And then they have the dropboxes for your glasses.
So that's it.
That's all I have for that.
Nick (18:11):
Okay.
Well, thanks, Jonie.
Yeah,
Joni (18:12):
Yeah, you bet.
Nick (18:12):
Yeah.
Great show.
All right, well let's get ontothis week's movie, Jonie.
What do we have this week?
Joni (18:20):
we're gonna talk about
Brave this week.
Yep.
First appearance for Brave wasJune 22nd, 2012.
The budget was 185 million.
Box office pulled 539 millionworldwide.
An intense amount of money theyjust keep getting, I know I say
that every week because theyjust keep growing every week.
The creator of the initialconcept and original story was
(18:42):
Brenda Chapman, who was inspiredby her relationship with her own
daughter.
Really?
Yes.
Okay.
As well as fairytales from HanChristian Anderson and the
Brothers Grim Again, however,Brenda was replaced by Director
Mark Andrews during theproduction due to creativity
differences with Disney Pixar, though she remains accredited
(19:06):
co-writer and director, so she,I'm told or I read, that she did
applaud the final.
She was okay with the wholefinal concepts, even though they
didn't use her verbatim.
Mm-hmm.
Steve Purcell is also noted as adirector and writer who, joined
in with Mark Andrews.
So brave is noted as beingPixar's first fairytale with the
(19:28):
original story rather thanadapting a preexisting one.
Nick (19:33):
So, uh,
Joni (19:34):
is interesting.
Very interesting because all theother have
Nick (19:38):
had some sort of baseline
to
Joni (19:41):
a book written off of it
or something?
Correct.
But well, it does say thefairytales of Hans Christian
Anderson and Brothers Grim.
So I'm like, but it was mostly, primarily based on her
relationship with her daughter.
Okay.
So it was original, the storyinfluenced by traditional
fairytales and uses reallocation landscapes,, that were
influenced by actual Scottishsites, including the rugged
(20:04):
coastlines, rolling hills, andhistoric structures.
The film draws on Scottishculture and history
incorporating elements like themagical will of the wis from
folklore and the fierce clanrivalries central to the story.
Meredith's age is 16.
Her traits aresingle-mindedness, stubbornness,
and strong desire for freedom.
(20:26):
As stated, it's a Scottish, heritage and her occupation is
an accomplished archer and swordfighter.
she wants to go out and doarchery.
She does much better than allthe men, but because of her
position and being the king'sdaughter, she's
Nick (20:41):
not appropriate.
She needs
Joni (20:42):
involved in things like
that.
Yeah, and it's a, it's a boyjob,
Nick (20:45):
Mm-hmm.
Joni (20:45):
know, back, but she does
much better than them.
She has falling outs with hermother as far as where, what her
role is, and she's, very adamantabout not wanting to fulfill her
mother's perception of her role.
So a Disney Pixar film set inmedieval Scotland that follows
Merida, A Skilled Archer and arebellious daughter of King
(21:06):
Fergus.
And Queen Eleanor meredithdefies her mother's wishes to
follow tradition and marry asuitor instead, seeking to
change her fate.
After a magical encounter withthe witch, Meredith accidentally
turns her mother into a bear.
Yeah, bizarre.
And I'll mention this before
Nick (21:24):
I'll mention
Joni (21:24):
I go on that in the film,
the father, the king, and all
the huntsmen.
Are after this bear.
Yeah.
So mom has to run around thekingdom hiding.
But mom and daughter must worktogether to break the curse and
restore their bond.
The film explores themes ofindependence, family, and
understanding betweengenerations.
(21:47):
She has a sidekick, Angus, whois her Clydesdale horse.
She has no spouse.
This is the first one wellknown, I take that back.
Pocahontas didn't have a spouse.
Nick (21:59):
Nope.
Joni (22:00):
So there's no follow up
movies because
Nick (22:03):
Just
Joni (22:03):
there's nothing to stand.
Yeah, just a standalone.
There was a, there was anapproved novel released in 2018
titled Bravely.
But there's no follow up movies.
She was a guest character in theDisney Junior Series, Sophia,
the first in 2015, and she alsoappeared with other Disney
princesses in 2018.
(22:26):
Ralph breaks the internet.
Okay?
So she does make an appearancein that show, which a lot do.
And if, and if you watch, Imean, I've
Nick (22:34):
Ralph breaks the internet.
Really?
Nope.
Joni (22:35):
You, well, in any Disney
movie you find little, little
tidbits.
Yeah.
Little hidden things like, Ithink it's even Tiana's, you see
the ball from Toy Story?
Nick (22:45):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Joni (22:47):
or you'll see like a
little Mickey, the movie.
Yep.
Yep, yep.
So as far as awards isconcerned, it received multiple
award nominations and wins, mostnotably for the Academy Award
and the award for best animatedfeature film won a Golden Globe
for best animated feature filmas well.
Marita has received good reportsfrom critics, some saying she's
(23:08):
a breath of fresh air among theprincesses, and from a culture
Disney has not yet explored.
She's a good role model forgirls who want to get out there
and do it.
Marita is certainly no damsel indistress and isn't haughty.
She's torn between doing what'sexpected of her and following
her heart.
The people of Scotland have toaccept Marita, but in 2013.
(23:32):
Disney released a traditionalanimation style redesign of
Marita in preparation for hercoronation as Disney's 11th
princess.
Nick (23:41):
Mm-hmm.
Joni (23:42):
It was not taken so well,
Nick (23:44):
It did.
Joni (23:44):
so the redesign of the
character featured a slimmer
waist, more revealing neckline, larger eyes, and a sparkly
dress.
The problem with that is theredesign.
They wanted it to be more alongthe lines of natural and not
promote.
That style of appearance mm-hmm.
For kids, right?
And Brenda was not having it.
(24:06):
Brenda Chapman was not havingit, the original, and there were
lots of other groups thatweren't having it.
It says that Brenda fiercelycriticized the change, calling
it atrocious and added thatMarita was created to break that
mold.
A petition was, they actuallywent as far as a petition.
Was created to protest theredesign, claiming it was
sending a message to girls thatthe original version of Marita
(24:28):
is inferior and claim theredesign suggests girls conform
to a narrow definition of beautyafter seven days and 20,000
signatures.
Disney.
The original reverted to the, yeah, the original.
The original one.
So, and Disney actually gave aquote after receiving this
(24:49):
petition, and it says, quote,Marita exemplifies what it means
to be a Disney princess throughbeing brave, passionate, and
confident.
And she remains the same, strongand determined Marita from the
movie whose inner qualities haveinspired moms and daughters
around the world.
End quote.
Nick (25:05):
Nice.
So,
Joni (25:07):
it kind of almost makes me
feel like they would've done it
had they not received this
Nick (25:11):
yeah.
I mean they, they were gonna doit.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, they were, they werefull forward, let's go, let's do
it.
And then
Joni (25:19):
And Brenda said, oh, no,
no, no, no, no way to go Brenda.
Exactly.
So that's what I have for that.
Nick (25:27):
All right.
That's a good movie.
I, I like
Joni (25:29):
Mm-hmm.
Nick (25:30):
I've only watched it once
all the way through, but I did
like it.
Joni (25:32):
Yeah.
Nick (25:33):
All right.
Well thanks Jonie.
Joni (25:34):
you bet.
Nick (25:36):
On through this week's
tipper trick.
One's a, a big one for me.
You always hear people askingthis questions about, especially
first timers going, what kindashoes should I wear in the park?
Well, the answer to that iswhatever is right for you, what
is good for Joanie will not begood for me.
What is good for me will not begood for you.
Everybody's feet are different.
Everybody's gait is different.
(25:57):
I know a lot about this'cause Ihave plantar fasciitis in my
foot, so.
Both feet.
Yeah.
Worse than the right foot.
Joni (26:03):
And I have a bad knee.
Yeah.
Nick (26:06):
So my tip is to go to your
local running shoe store.
A lot of these places now havedigital mats.
They have you walk on, they takea digital image of your foot.
And as you're walking on thedigital mat, the mat is, gauging
where your weight is coming downon your
Joni (26:24):
Mm-hmm.
Nick (26:24):
Now judged from all this
data, they will put you in a
shoe that is right for you.
Joni (26:30):
Okay.
Nick (26:31):
I did this before our
first Disney trip because Yeah,
because I can't mess around withmy feet.
Joni (26:37):
You're, you're So Nick's
incident actually happened.
We were vacationing, in Mexicoand it was just simply walking
barefoot on the sand.
Yep.
That is what triggered andamplified you may have had, but
it really
Nick (26:50):
Yeah.
That was in 2010, I think, andI've had it ever since.
But yeah, so I did this.
I went to the running shoestore.
They did all that.
Took an image of my foot, watched me walk, they put me in
a shoe.
We wa well you know how inDisney Road you're walking 25 to
35,000 steps a day.
We did that for five days in theparks, plus our off day.
(27:12):
I had zero problems with myfeet.
Mm-hmm.
Absolutely Zero problems.
'cause they put me into a shoethat was right for me.
Now
Joni (27:19):
shoe.
Now I the same walked the.
Nick (27:23):
match.
Yep.
Joni (27:24):
I walk the line with
Johnny Cash, but, um, and, and I
got placed in a shoe as well.
However, I did have someproblems.
She did, but it was my faultbecause,
Nick (27:34):
Get get to this because
this is important too.
I wasn't gonna bring this up,but go ahead.
This is important.
Joni (27:39):
Nick got his new shoes and
broke them in
Nick (27:42):
about three weeks.
Joni (27:44):
I did not.
Nick (27:46):
She just put'em on and got
on a plane.
Joni (27:48):
and at the time, to be
fair too, your job at the time
required a lot of walking, soyou were able to break those in.
Right.
My job is a desk job.
Yeah.
So my job did not require somuch.
You got a lot more steps inmileage on your shoes prior to
the trips, so your feet wereable to acclimate.
(28:09):
Mine did not.
I, I did not.
I took two pairs of shoes.
Did,
Nick (28:14):
You did.
Joni (28:14):
I mean, there was a time
that you woke up in the morning
and was like, it's time to getup.
And I literally was like, I'mnot going today.
Nick (28:20):
And she had her feet
elevated.
Joni (28:21):
'cause my feet hurt so
bad.
But I managed through, you know, did the massaging and things
like that and, and managedthrough.
But, it hurt worse for mestanding still.
I was okay moving.
Nick (28:32):
That's a, yeah.
Yeah, that's, that's true of.
I can't stand still.
I can walk, but I can't standstill.
Joni (28:39):
But please just break your
shoes in.
Nick (28:41):
break your shoes in, get
fitted
Joni (28:42):
for, I mean, that's
Nick (28:43):
are gonna be right for
Joni (28:43):
sense thing.
I don't know what I was notthinking.
I mean,
Nick (28:46):
and you know, and Joanie
had a desk job at the time, so
if you have a desk job.
And you do this process, you goto the running shoe store and
you get new shoes, just go outand walk a mile here and there,
you know, after work or if it's,you know, if it's cold out where
you're at, I dunno.
Go to your gym and do thetreadmill or you know, just make
sure you get your shoes brokenand make sure they're the right
shoe for you.
(29:07):
Or
Joni (29:07):
Or if they're clean.
I mean, and you don't wanna, youknow if they're clean bottom
soles, just wear'em around yourhouse.
Yeah.
I mean, if you haven't worn themoutside yet, just break'em in
going up and down your stairs orfrom one end of the house to the
other.
Nick (29:20):
Some people swear by Crocs
when they're in Disney
Joni (29:22):
I don't know how people
wear Crocs and I don't
Nick (29:24):
I would make it through
two hours of my day and be on
the bus to go back to soak myfeet.
Joni (29:31):
Or slides.
I mean, we've even seen peoplewear heels.
Now that right there, no, I dohave an opinion.
Please don't wear heels.
It's not, it's not a fashionshow.
It's not a Miss America pageant.
Nick (29:45):
Yourself some comfortable
tennis shoes.
all right, well that's gonna doit for this week's show.
Joni (29:50):
Okay, perfect.
Well, congratulations again toKatie.
Yes.
We hope you enjoy your prize.

We only have one excursionplanned.
Um, Cosell, we're just gonnakinda take it easy.
Yeah,
Joni (30:39):
I was kind of bummed that
we, you know, it didn't have a
beach right off of the port, butwe'd never been to the Disney
part of the Cozumel, so we'vebeen to Mexico numerous times.
Nick (30:48):
But yeah, just the
Joni (30:48):
port is, yeah,
Nick (30:49):
