Nick (00:07):
Hello everybody.
Welcome to this week's episodeof the Main Street Talk podcast,
your go-to podcast for allthings Walt Disney World related
with all the news and theupdates, and the tips and
tricks.
I'm your host Nick, and asalways with me is Joanie.
Joni (00:24):
Hello.
Nick (00:25):
We are recording this on
Saturday, August 2nd.
So everything we talk abouttoday is current through August
2nd.
There's not a lot going on inDisney World this week, but we
have lots of other stuff we'dlike to get to every week.
So before we get into it, I justwant to say if you enjoy this
podcast please give it a ratingon your podcast platform that
(00:45):
helps to show out a lot.
It helps to get found by otherpeople.
And the show can grow that way.
So if you wanna help us out, just go ahead and do that.
And with that, I think we'll getright into the news.
We'll start with Magic Kingdom,as we always do.
Joni (00:57):
All right.
Nick (00:58):
Magic Kingdom, I guess
this is Walt Disney World
related in general, but veryspecific to the Magic Kingdom as
far as annual pass holders areconcerned.
So when the Starlight Paradestarted.
They were putting restrictionson for the annual pass holders
ahead of the Starlight Parade.
All those restrictions have beenlifted and we're back to the the
(01:21):
normal, I don't know exactly howpass holders works.
I think you have to, I don'tknow if you have to make
reservations, but anyway therestrictions they put in place
for the parade have been lifted,so everything's back to normal.
Okay.
Magic Kingdom
Joni (01:32):
good.
So for those of us who don'tlike change,
Nick (01:35):
Yeah.
People were mad.
People got shut out and werelike, what's going on?
Joni (01:40):
on?
I'm sure I would be a littleupset too.
You're paying your, you'repaying your price to be there
and then you can't be there.
Nick (01:47):
It's gotta read
everything.
Gotta read your emails andthat's
Joni (01:50):
true.
So
Nick (01:51):
that's it for Magic
Kingdom.
Joni (01:52):
Really?
Oh my goodness.
Nick (01:55):
Over at Hollywood Studios
Construction in the former
Muppet section of Disney,Hollywood Studios continues and
they have completely demolishedthe stage One Muppet store Saw
an aerial view of this, and itis shredded.
It was just a pile of rubble.
Joni (02:14):
wood.
Nick (02:15):
Wood, yes.
And a big crane in the middle ofit, or a a backhoe or whatever
they call those
Joni (02:21):
saw one of the walls still
up from the the inside view of
it.
Nick (02:25):
Yeah.
Joni (02:26):
So with things hanging on
it,
Nick (02:29):
surreal.
I think they're I didn't putthis in the news'cause we
already talked about it, butthey're making progress on the
Monsters Inc.
Door rollercoaster.
I think they have an outline inthe parking lot of actually what
the building shape and all that.
And we already talked about howbig that building is.
Yeah.
Getting excited there.
Joni (02:47):
it's like a chalk print?
Nick (02:49):
Yeah.
I don't know what they're using,
Joni (02:51):
Yeah, I just teasing.
Nick (02:52):
look like an yeah.
Like a police chalk outline
Joni (02:56):
like a investigation
scene.
Nick (02:59):
And then also over at
Hollywood Studios, three permits
have been filed in animationcourtyard for the eventual
transformation of Launch Bayinto the the new animation.
The building they're puttingover there.
So those permits have been filedagain, we said that Launch Bay
is closing on September 25th, ifI remember right.
(03:20):
I have to look back at my notes, but I'm pretty sure it is
closing on September 25th.
I'm excited for that.
I don't know how it stayed openso long after Galaxy's Edge
opened up.
I think Galaxy's Edge opened upin 2019, if I remember right.
And Launch Bay being over therejust seemed I don't know just
weird.
Why wouldn't they moveeverything over to Galaxy's Edge
from Launch Bay?
(03:41):
I don't know.
I'm surprised it stayed openthat long.
Hopefully they move all the meetand greets over there though.
'cause I know Darth Vader and Ithink Chewbacca meet over at
Launch Bay, so hopefully theyimplement them somewhere in
Galaxy's Edge.
I'm sure they will.
'cause those are big meet andgreets.
Joni (03:55):
I'm sure they'll have them
continue.
Nick (03:56):
Yeah.
Can't
Joni (03:57):
cut main characters like
that and get away with it.
Nick (04:00):
no.
Especially, yeah, there'sespecially the old like me the
first generation Star Wars fans,yeah.
Like the first set of movies, the first three movies that were
released.
Joni (04:12):
You're not as old as Mr.
Lucas.
Come on.
Nick (04:15):
I like, like Luke
Skywalker and Darth Vader more
than I like, like Kylo Ren and,
Joni (04:20):
you better shut your mouth
right
Nick (04:21):
I know, but
Joni (04:23):
somebody mad.
Nick (04:23):
that's just me.
I know.
The new generation is
Joni (04:27):
No, I get it.
I'm old school too.
I like the old school stuff.
Yeah.
Nick (04:30):
And speaking of Star Wars,
if you're not busy on, let's
see, what, April 30th, 2027.
Are you busy?
Joni (04:38):
oh, no.
Nick (04:39):
no, I don't think so.
Not that you know of
Joni (04:41):
going on?
Nick (04:42):
That will be the 50th
anniversary of Star Wars, A New
Hope, and it will be back intheaters starting.
Variety, the magazine varietiesreporting April 30th, 2027.
Joni (04:54):
Okay.
Nick (04:55):
Okay.
So if you're not busy thatweekend, we can go see
Joni (04:58):
market in your calendar.
Nick (04:59):
I did.
When they re-released them, theyadded the new special effects to
the movies.
That probably late nineties, early two thousands.
I did go watch those, but thatwas pretty cool.
Joni (05:09):
Them
Nick (05:09):
in the theater.
'cause I was so young when theycame out that I think I've only
ever remember watching them onVHS and DVD when I was VHS when
I was younger, I don't remembergoing to a movie theater and
watching them.
So that was pretty cool.
Joni (05:22):
Speaking of, I wonder Nick
and I are actually after this
recording, gonna go to adrive-in
Nick (05:28):
to the drive-in and
Joni (05:30):
We're gonna watch some old
classics grease and Dirty
Dancing.
Grease
Nick (05:34):
and dirty
Joni (05:35):
But anyway it would be
really cool if on that
anniversary date they playedthose at Drive-ins.
Nick (05:39):
those at drive-ins.
Yeah.
April 30th.
Here in the Midwest, weatherstarting the nights are pretty
cold still.
Joni (05:47):
that's okay.
Bring a blanket, sit in your carwith the heat on and
Nick (05:50):
would be really cool
though, for sure.
Joni (05:53):
I think that would be
neat.
Nick (05:55):
Very cool.
I didn't see any news for Epcot.
Animal Kingdom had a little bitof news.
I didn't even put it on here, but I think I'll talk about it
'cause I just read thisactually.
so I guess when imagineers arebuilding new stuff, they had,
they put different models ofmaterials they're gonna use to
build things to see how it holdsup in the Florida weather the
humidity in the sun and the rainand all that.
(06:17):
Apparently over in whereTropical Americas is gonna be,
there's nine models over there.
Of like little walls, Uhhuh tosee how they're testing material
for what they're gonna build.
Joni (06:30):
okay, I'm sorry, but can I
say something?
I think that's a waste of timeand money for as long as, for as
long as they've been building.
Nick (06:37):
building
Joni (06:39):
That park, they should
already know what materials are
going to stand
Nick (06:43):
unless they're building
for maybe ride specific stuff.
What are we gonna make this outof?
What are we gonna make that
Joni (06:47):
well make it outta
something that's already lasted
and strong and true to theweather elements.
That's what
Nick (06:53):
what I read.
Joni (06:53):
I, because
Nick (06:54):
sitting out there
Joni (06:55):
that's why it takes so
long to get things moving along.
Nick (06:59):
I will give Disney props
on this.
They're moving quick on
Joni (07:02):
But however, I don't want
anything to break down either,
so I guess Disney do what youneed to do, but I just, I think
it's a time waster and a moneywaster to try materials.
I'm sure every material, thatmodel that they have
Nick (07:15):
Has been tested.
Joni (07:16):
there's already a ride
built out of it.
Unless they're doing somethingthat's more eco-friendly,
Nick (07:22):
I don't know.
It's just what I read.
Joni (07:24):
You do.
You Disney.
Nick (07:27):
This wasn't in my notes
either, but we officially have,
this is exciting for Joni and I,his animal Kingdom is our home
resort.
They officially have the refurbschedule.
We knew the basics, but I thinkthey have a specific schedule
now.
They are remodeling Kani Villagestarting in October until May,
Joni (07:43):
October until May,
Nick (07:44):
and then they're moving
over to Jambo house from May
till January of 2027.
So that's exciting for us.
Joni (07:51):
it is.
Nick (07:51):
it's,
Joni (07:52):
I'm just gonna say
unofficially.
These are speculated dates.
Nick (07:55):
No, they announced it.
Joni (07:56):
I said unofficially.
Oh yeah.
Nick (07:58):
But Disney is not fast.
But I, like I said, Disney ismoving fast on things now.
I think Epic really?
Really lit, a fire under'em.
Joni (08:06):
Yeah.
Hopefully corners are not beingcut with.
Nick (08:11):
oh, I don't think so.
I hope not.
That's it for my news this week.
Joni (08:15):
That was short.
Nick (08:17):
Very short news segment.
So I think we can get on to weeknumber six of our poster
giveaway.
Joni (08:24):
Okay.
I can get that for us.
Nick (08:26):
I have the list whenever
you are ready.
Brian won last week.
Congratulations to Brian.
Joni (08:33):
Okay, I am gonna spin it.
Nick (08:34):
All right, I'm ready.
Joni (08:36):
2, 1.
Go.
Nick (08:37):
Here we go.
Spinning for week number six.
Winner.
We're getting closer to that.
$50
Joni (08:43):
Yeah, we are.
It's what, three
Nick (08:43):
what, three weeks?
I
Joni (08:44):
got we had a total of
eight weeks we were doing, and
then our winner, and we've gotnumber 36 is our winner this
Nick (08:49):
30.
Six is
Joni (08:52):
Amy.
Amy.
Nick (08:54):
has the numbers.
Seven six in her email address.
Joni (08:58):
So
Nick (08:59):
So congratulations to Amy.
You are going to win a officialWalt Disney World Growth chart

So thank you for subscribing,Amy.
Joni (09:12):

We will be reaching out to
you midweek to get your mailing

you.
Congratulations.
Congratulations, Amy.
Man, this is going by fast.
We're only in week
Joni (09:27):
I know.
Nick (09:27):
and we're getting really
close to
Joni (09:29):
You know what though?
I've already got wheels turningon.
The next item we're gonna do fora
Nick (09:33):
do you, I think I do too.
What?
To talk.
Yeah.
Joni (09:35):
we should just do this on
a like continuous basis.
We could.
Nick (09:39):
We can talk after the
show.
And I have something elseexciting to
Joni (09:43):
we say now or What you,
whatever your
Nick (09:46):
I'm gonna say, yeah.
I don't know if you know whatI'm gonna say.
I'm,
Joni (09:49):
have no idea,
Nick (09:50):
but I have something
exciting.
So at the beginning when I wasdoing this show on my own,
before Joni stepped in, and I'veeven said it, Facebook posts and
stuff that I would like to getlisteners involved in our show.
And I have had a listener reachout that wants to come on the
show.
Joni (10:08):
super.
Nick (10:08):
So yes, we are working out
the details of that, but that
will be very soon, probablywithin the next two or three
weeks.
Don't quote me on that becausewe gotta figure out Nate.
Yeah.
We gotta figure out schedulesand all
Joni (10:21):
Yeah.
But it'll happen.
It'll happen.
Nick (10:23):
It'll happen very,
Joni (10:24):
the,
Nick (10:24):
happen soon.
It's in the
Joni (10:25):
coming future.
Nick (10:26):
in the early works.
And his name is Seth.
Okay.
He will be our very first guest.
Oh.
Joni (10:32):
Oh,
Nick (10:33):
So we're excited.
He
Joni (10:34):
woo-hoo, Seth.
Nick (10:35):
we've been emailing back
and forth a little bit and we're
gonna get this set up.
We're
Joni (10:40):
excited.
So we're not giving anyinformation about Seth right
now.
Let's just mums the word on hisrole, or what he
Nick (10:46):
was, or Nope.
We're just in yeah, we're justgonna wait till we we have the
conversation with him.
Okay.
And we'll put it up within amonth, hopefully more like two
weeks,
Joni (10:56):
right.
Nick (10:56):
we just gotta figure out
schedules
Joni (10:57):
Yeah.
Nick (10:58):
So That's exciting.
Joni (10:59):
is exciting.
Nick (11:00):
Yeah.
I'm glad a listener wants tocall in.
'cause the more stories you hearfrom people going to Disney
World, the the better you'reprepared for.
Yeah.
Joni (11:09):
well, and there might be
somebody that gets tired of
hearing our voices.
They wanna hear somebody new and
Nick (11:12):
yeah, we know what you do
in Disney.
Why don't you talk to somebodyYeah.
Cause we have the perspective ofwe've traveled with kids, we've
traveled by ourselves, but, everybody has different
situations, different lifesituations
Joni (11:28):
And a lot
Nick (11:28):
they like to do.
Joni (11:29):
And some people are more
foodies and others are more risk
takers and they wanna do thethrills.
Nick (11:35):
Some people just wanna
watch shows.
Yeah.
Joni (11:37):
Yeah.
So everybody's different.
We like a little bit ofeverything, but we definitely
get the thrill rides in.
Yeah.
They're all the rides rather.
Yeah.
We do it
Nick (11:44):
We do it all.
Joni (11:44):
And the shows, we like the
shows too.
Nick (11:46):
Yeah.
That's
Joni (11:47):
but it did take a number
of times to accomplish
Nick (11:50):
Yes.
And it does.
And
Joni (11:52):
haven't done everything.
So by no means are we
Nick (11:55):
you can't get it all done
in one trip unless you're there
like two weeks.
Joni (11:58):
No
Nick (11:59):
Imagine kingdoms at least
two days, Epcot.
We still haven't done,
Joni (12:04):
You can't get everything.
They got the little doorsaround.
Nick (12:06):
Yeah.
If you wanna do absolutelyeverything, you can do all the
shows and rides I
Joni (12:10):
Yeah.
Oh yeah, for sure.
That's that kind of stuff.
If you wanna sightsee and
Nick (12:14):
explore,
Joni (12:15):
surroundings and find all
the pascals and different things
like that, you've got to giveyourself like, I don't know.
Nick (12:22):
Epcot, we still haven't
done all of
Joni (12:24):
No, we have it every time
we go.
We,
Nick (12:26):
time we go.
That's a big park
Joni (12:29):
yeah, it is.
And we have our favorites inevery park.
Yep.
And we always do all the rides.
Yep.
I don't know.
That might end up being a twoday or one of these visits
Nick (12:40):
Yeah,
Joni (12:41):
checked off the list.
Nick (12:43):
So yeah, I wanted to share
that.
Joni (12:45):
have a nineties boy band
there, and then I'll be stuck in
front of the
Nick (12:49):
98 degrees.
Joni (12:52):
woo.
Nick (12:53):
Che on stage,
Joni (12:55):
live and in
Nick (12:56):
person.
Joni (12:58):
Okay, moving along.
What are we doing
Nick (13:01):
on.
We are gonna jump into Spotlighton Attraction.
We are in Fantasy Land.
Still In Fantasy Land.
Yes.
Joni (13:09):
Yes.
Nick (13:10):
This week we're doing the
Mad Tea Party.
Joni (13:12):
Okay.
Nick (13:13):
I like the mad Tea
Joni (13:14):
You do.
You like Alice in Wonderlandthough?
Nick (13:16):
I like everything about
the mad tea party.
I know.
It's very kiddish.
Juvenile.
Juvenile.
Thank you.
Joni (13:23):
That's okay.
We crack up and then have ablast every time we're on it.
We're spinners though.
Nick (13:29):
we are spinners.
I couldn't spin much last time'cause I had a shoulder injury,
but when we were there with thekids
Joni (13:35):
Yeah.
Oh, we have some photos.
Let me tell you.
They are doozies,
Nick (13:39):
dc.
But yeah.
And last time we went on, thiswas the Halloween party.
Joni (13:44):
Yeah.
Nick (13:45):
and I'll let you I know.
Yeah.
You can get into that old Yep.
For both
Joni (13:48):
both holidays.
Yeah.
They're overlayed.
Nick (13:50):
So what I have typed out
here for the Mad Tea Party is a,
the Mad Tea Party is a classicspinning teacup ride in
Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom.
Inspired by Disney's 1951 film,Alice Wonderland.
Obviously it opened October 1st,1971.
Which was the opening day of thepark.
Guests sit in oversized teacupsthat spin on a large turntable
(14:14):
with each cup's speed controlledby a central wheel.
Originally the bride had noroof, which is crazy to me.
Joni (14:21):
The original Disneyland,
sorry to interject, but the
original Disneyland still doesnot have a roof.
Nick (14:27):
Yeah,
Joni (14:28):
But all the others, and
this ride is in five of the six
parks.
The only one it's lacking fromis Shanghai,
Nick (14:35):
But yeah, but Florida is
like in a peninsula.
In the summer it rains everyday.
Joni (14:40):
Yeah.
Nick (14:42):
So originally the rifle
had no roof, but a cover for
Canopy was added in 1973 toprotect guests from Florida's
weather.
It was updated in 1992 forsmoother spinning and better
safety with furtherrefurbishments over the years to
improve lighting and design.
The ride features 18 colorfulteacups surrounding a giant
(15:02):
teapot where the dorm houseoccasionally appears.
Joni (15:08):
He pops out the top.
Nick (15:10):
Did I say that right?
Dorm house.
Okay.
There's no height requirementmaking it a favorite for
families.
Characters like Alice and theMad Hatter sometimes appear
nearby, which we have seen
Joni (15:20):
Yeah.
We have.
Nick (15:21):
They were right outside
Joni (15:22):
Yes, we have.
And the Queen of Hearts
Nick (15:26):
Did we see her there?
Yeah.
I don't
Joni (15:27):
Yeah.
Oh, I did.
I don't know if you did
Nick (15:28):
I remember seeing Alice
and the Mad Hatter.
It's known for its bright colorsand spinning fun.
The Mad Tea Party remains abeloved part of the park's
original lineup.
Yeah, that's what I have.
Joni (15:39):
Yeah.
So I have a little bit to add tothere.
Not a whole lot I'm gonna haveto sift through because I, our
notes are overlapping of just atad, I think.
So the capacity I have that it'sthree average sized rider, the
ride
Nick (15:56):
on.
In one
Joni (15:57):
In one cup, okay.
Yep.
In one cup.
And the duration of the ride isguesstimated.
I've read a couple differentthings between a minute, 15
seconds and a minute and a half.
So
Nick (16:08):
sounds about right.
Yeah.
Joni (16:08):
seconds leeways.
And you're correct in saying theplatforms with the cup with 18
cups, but it's, it rotates.
It's on it.
One gigantic platform thatrotates.
The one gigantic platformrotates, I believe,
counterclockwise or clockwise.
And then the three individualsrotate the opposite
Nick (16:30):
So there's three platforms
on top of one platform, a
Joni (16:33):
platform, and then three
smaller platforms.
And then on top of each threeplatforms.
As six
Nick (16:41):
cups, picture like alien,
swirling, saucer, the same type
of ride mechanism.
Okay.
Correct.
Okay.
Joni (16:46):
Correct.
And the song that plays duringthe Ride is the actual song that
plays in Alice in Wonderlandwhen the Mad Hatter is having
his.
Tea Party
Nick (16:58):
is it really?
Joni (16:59):
And it's called the
Unbirthday Song,
Nick (17:01):
the Un
Joni (17:02):
Un unbirthday song.
And what this does,, the themeis inspired by the Unbirthday
party scene.
And it creates, the song, helpsto create a festive and slightly
chaotic atmosphere thatobviously happens during the Mad
Tea Party,
Nick (17:17):
Okay.
Okay.
Joni (17:19):
Okay.
And then, for accessibilitythose folks who are in a
wheelchair or an electricvehicle will need to transfer.
It's a tier two multipass and itis speculated.
I have no confirmation, but Idid wanna know what was the
(17:39):
fastest cup
Nick (17:40):
There's rumors.
Yes, there are rumors.
And
Joni (17:43):
And I have three cups to
announce now.
Nick (17:46):
Three for the fastest?
No.
Okay.
Joni (17:49):
I have a fastest, I have a
second fastest and I have a
slowest.
Now, these are all speculations.
I cannot confirm or deny, okay, but I will give the information
that I have learned.
The fastest cup is said to bethe orange diamond cup.
The orange cup with the diamondsis said to be the fastest
Nick (18:08):
diamond is the
Joni (18:09):
orange diamond followed by
the purple cup, and I think the
purple only has like littlesquiggles on it.
Nick (18:17):
Okay.
Joni (18:18):
The slowest cup is said to
be.
There are two heart teacups.
I don't know the colors.
Oh, okay.
But they have hearts on them.
Nick (18:25):
Okay.
When you say the orange diamond, you mean the orange cup and it
has diamond shapes on it?
Yes.
Designs?
Yes.
Joni (18:31):
I apologize.
Yes.
And I will let everyone knowthat they do ask that you walk
to your teacup, don't run.
'cause you're not supposed torun in Disney.
It's dangerous.
So I don't know if these arehighly anticipated like
everybody wants that ride orwhat.
Like I don't know.
(18:51):
But I will say that you do nothave to in any cup.
You don't have to spin if youdon't want to, because this is a
very highly motion alteringride.
Nick (19:03):
You're spinning
regardless.
You're spinning
Joni (19:05):
on the big platform, then
you're spinning on the smaller
platform, and then you've got ateacup that spins.
But you can hold the wheelsteady.
You don't have to spin it.
And you, you still virtuallyspinning,
Nick (19:18):
Yeah.
You'll naturally spin.
'cause
Joni (19:20):
but you can absolutely
intensify that
Nick (19:23):
you can get going.
Joni (19:23):
would like to.
I wish that we could postpictures of the kids on that
ride,
Nick (19:28):
ride.
Yeah.
Joni (19:29):
but for.
Privacy reasons, we're not goingto, they're minors and not ours.
So we're not
Nick (19:37):
hey we're not gonna go to
their parents and be like, Hey,
can you sign this release so wecan put up,
Joni (19:41):
not gonna do that.
So that's what I have on thatride.
Nick (19:46):
I like it.
A little bit on that.
This is, you said it's a tiertwo lightning lane?
It's not necessary that if youwanted to write it I wouldn't.
I wouldn't use a lightning lane
Joni (19:58):
It was said that it is a
slower it's a slow moving line.
It is.
There's nothing to do in thequeue to past time
Nick (20:05):
But it's never a
Joni (20:06):
watch the ride, which I
think is intriguing.
Anyway, watching everybody'sreactions on there.
I don't think it's a super long,it is outdoors, but it is
covered.
Some of the line can wrap aroundinto the sun or whatnot, but, I
don't know.
It's a minute and a half.
It takes more time boarding andonboarding than it does
Nick (20:22):
If you got a two and
you're going with a two and a
3-year-old and you can't, youare limited on ride selections
and you're gonna buy LightningLane anyway.
Sure.
Why not?
Joni (20:31):
Don't waste it.
The line's not long enough towhere you need to waste one.
Nick (20:34):
no.
It could be a burner ridethough.
I ever heard people doing it onone of the loggers we watch
actually said that they
Joni (20:42):
Oh, yeah.
We've talked about, we've talkedabout using burner rides.
Oh yeah.
Nick (20:45):
No I know, but I'm saying
that one in specific.
It's a good burner ride.
Yeah.
Joni (20:48):
Yeah.
So there we have it for
Nick (20:51):
matte party and the the
holiday overlays for Mickey's
not so scary.
They do a Halloween or overlayand for Mickey's very merry
Christmas party, they do aoverlay as well.
The lights are a littledifferent.
Joni (21:03):
Yeah.
Nick (21:03):
During the party and the
music's different.
I, yeah.
Joni (21:05):
Uhhuh.
Nick (21:06):
Uhhuh.
Joni (21:07):
I am gonna say that near
the Mad Tea Party is the
Cheshire Cafe.
Yep.
Nick (21:13):
Yep.
With the
Joni (21:14):
Who is featured in the
Allison Wonderland.
He's the mischievous.
Cat disappearing cat.
And they, it is a snack standand it has like iced coffees,
frozen lemonades and snacks, andit has smoothies, or I'm sorry,
slushies.
It's got the iconic CheshireCattail,
Nick (21:32):
the big cat tail.
We've never had
Joni (21:34):
Yep.
But it looks delicious.
Nick (21:35):
delicious.
It's big.
Joni (21:37):
Yep.
And they put the purple or itlooks purple.
I dunno if it's purple, pink or
Nick (21:41):
Yeah.
Something.
Joni (21:42):
Some sort of icing drizzle
on it.
It's looks amazing.
It's got some sort of nut in it,doesn't it?
I can't even remember,
Nick (21:49):
don't know.
I've seen people eating it, butI don't know.
We're gonna get that next timewe're
Joni (21:54):
yeah.
Nick (21:56):
There's a few
Joni (21:56):
we've got a lot of things
that we've been saying since day
one.
We were gonna get
Nick (21:59):
and then we just get there
and
Joni (22:01):
with everything.
Nick (22:01):
we're, yeah.
So
Joni (22:03):
So anyway Cheshire Cats
hosted by Minute Maid as well.
Nick (22:07):
Maybe one day we'll just
go there and just eat.
We won't even go.
We won't do, we'll go on a fewshows while we eat.
Joni (22:15):
The ones that allow food,
one
Nick (22:17):
that allow food.
Yeah.
We'll just go eat and be like, Iate at Disney and I'm stuffed
and I need a nap.
Okay.
So that's Matt Tea Party.
Go on it.
Enjoy it.
It's fun for all ages.
this week continuing with Joni'sseries on first appearances and
movies and princesses.
What do you got this week,
Joni (22:37):
oh, this week I have
Nick (22:39):
Ariel from the little We,
and I knew that I know.
I said what do you got thisweek?
But I do know that because wejust watched this last night.
Joni (22:49):
We've seen it before, but
we rewatched it just to refresh.
Nick (22:51):
I haven't seen it in a
very long time.
A lot of it I didn't remember,but I'll tell you one scene I
did like after you're done with
Joni (22:57):
you did or did
Nick (22:58):
I really liked and I
forgot about the scene.
I really liked it.
But go ahead with your,
Joni (23:04):
so anyway, Ariel in this
movie is 16 years old.
The Little Mermaid came out inNovember 17th, 1989.
It's 83 minutes.
The budget was 40 million and itpulled in 211 million.
Nick (23:21):
Oh, wow.
Joni (23:21):
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Huge success.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was written in, directed byJohn Musker and Ron Clements.
The producers are John and Ronand Howard Ashman.
John and Ron the same ones whowrote it and directed it,
written and directed by JohnMusker and Ron Clements.
(23:43):
It's loosely based on HansChristian Anderson's fairy tale
of the same name.
And there is no occupation.
Ariel has no occupation otherthan being a singer, Sebastian
tries to put on a concert andshe's absent.
She's very much a wanderer.
Her family, so she's got, herdad is obviously in King Triton
(24:04):
and she has six sisters and theyall, every single one of'em, all
the daughters start with a,
Nick (24:11):
a Do they really?
Joni (24:11):
and I don't understand if
there's like a thing behind that
or what.
But her sisters, I won't say alltheir names, but they range
from.
16 to 21.
So there's another one in herethat I was told the age was 16.
So I don't know if Ariel's a new16 or what's going on with that.
I'm not sure.
So her spouse is Prince Eric, orends up being Prince Eric.
(24:36):
And they sidekicks are flounder, who's the very skittish little
guy?
Nick (24:43):
The fish?
Joni (24:44):
Scuttle, who is the
seagull.
Sebastian.
Who old,
Nick (24:51):
Kind of a baby babysitter
Joni (24:52):
Yeah.
But he start, he starts out asnot a sidekick.
He's a narc.
Tattletale.
And then he,
Nick (24:58):
her and spying on her.
Joni (25:00):
And and then Eric's old
English sheep dog.
His name is Max.
And then the antagonist twoMonterey eels that belong to
Ursula, who is the sea witch
Nick (25:12):
or henchman, if you will.
Joni (25:14):
Yes.
Their nationality.
It's a fictional underwaterkingdom called Atlantica, though
not explicitly assigned anationality, The story is rooted
in Danish culture.
Her traits are adventurousinnocent.
Curious.
The story centers around a youngmermaid who is captivated by the
(25:34):
world upon the surface.
When she falls in love with ahuman prince.
She makes a deal with avillainous sea witch to become
human herself and must earn hislove before the time runs out.
And they agree that she hasthree days for this.
So it's won two Academy awardsfor best song, which is Under
the Sea
Nick (25:53):
I don't think I knew that.
Joni (25:55):
and best original music
score.
The film is also accredited tohave started the historic Disney
Renaissance.
Nick (26:04):
Yep.
A huge run.
So after those, that movie,
Joni (26:07):
I went in and looked at
the Disney Renaissance Awards
and whatnot.
the Disney Renaissance is aperiod from 19 80 90 19 99,
during which Walt Disney featureanimation return to producing.
Critically successful animatedfilms and there was only 10
Nick (26:25):
They're huge though.
All of them hits
Joni (26:27):
and all of them were up
for awards except one.
I won't tell you which one.
Okay.
Because I'll mention them as wego through them and people may
already know this or can look itup or whatnot.
I will tell you though.
That the films were mostlyadaptations of well-known
stories, similar to filmsproduced by Walt Disney in the
(26:47):
1930s through the 1960s.
And the resurgence of theDisney's animated films to
become a powerhouse of successesat the domestic and foreign box
office earning much greaterprofits.
That's why they brought them.
They, I think from last week, they knew that one had bombed.
And that they
Nick (27:05):
the Cauldron.
Joni (27:06):
yeah, they really had
Nick (27:07):
They needed a, they needed
to come back and they did.
Joni (27:10):
So the two awards that are
given in 1989, the Little
Mermaid was nominated for threeAcademy Awards and they won two
of them.
Nick (27:19):
Two or three.
Not bad.
Not bad at all.
Joni (27:21):
And an Annie Award.
And for those who may not knowwhat an Annie Award is, it is
animation's highest honor.
IT Accolades, which the LosAngeles branch of the
International Animated FilmAssociation has presented each
year since 1972 to recognizeexcellence in animation shown in
America cinema and television.
(27:42):
So it didn't get any nominationsfor any Annie Awards, but it did
win two out of its three.
Nick (27:50):
Oscars.
That's those, that's the bigones.
Yep.
For
Joni (27:52):
Yep.
that's what I have on that.
Oh, wait, one more last thing toadd.
I know I wasn't gonna go butI've been with the other
characters, the other movies, they do have some children that
offspring into.
Some more of the newer shows.
And movies.
Oh, and there are follow upmovies, so I'll read those and
then I'll go into the children'snames.
(28:13):
So the Little Mermaid tworeturned to the Sea was in 2000.
The Little Mermaid Aerialsbeginning was 2008.
And then the Live Action remakewas released in 2023.
Nick (28:26):
We have not seen that.
And
Joni (28:29):
And then, the children,
they have a daughter and her
name is Melody, and she appearsin the Little Mermaid two,
return to the Sea.
Nick (28:40):
Okay.
Joni (28:41):
Yeah.
And her name's Melody, which isfitting
Nick (28:45):
Oh yeah.
Joni (28:45):
because Eric's in love
with Ariel's voice, and that's
what he remembers most abouther.
Yeah.
So
Nick (28:52):
When he is trying to find
her.
So the scene that I thought wasabsolutely awesome was when
Ursula makes the deal withAriel.
I thought that whole scene wasgreat.
Yeah.
When she's
Joni (29:04):
Poor unfortunate Souls.
Nick (29:06):
Yeah.
And she's you have three days.
And it's just a really coolscene.
It's a little dark, but notdark, but a little I don't know.
Joni (29:15):
It's villainous it's
Nick (29:17):
it's just yeah.
Joni (29:18):
the stepmother and snow
white doing the apple over the
cauldron, making the potion.
Nick (29:23):
So it was a really cool
scene and I totally forgot about
that scene.
Like I said, I had not seen itsince I was a early teenager.
Joni (29:31):
Yeah.
You told me you didn't evenremember
Nick (29:33):
I didn't remember, no, I
didn't remember that scene at
all.
I remembered bits and pieces ofthe movie, but not a lot of
Joni (29:40):
Okay.
Nick (29:40):
Okay.
That's a little mermaid.
Okay.
Next week we will have a newone.
That's gonna take us to thisweek's tipper trick, and this is
fitting'cause Joni and I justsaid we were gonna go to Magic
Kingdom and eat all the food oneday.
Joni (29:52):
Oh, okay.
Oh boy.
Nick (29:55):
This is a tipper trick to
save you some time and a little
bit of headache as far as.
Eating in the parks or resortsfor that matter, is using
Disney's mobile order service.
Now what this is in the MyDisney Experience App, not all
places have it.
Obviously not sit down.
Restaurants have it.
(30:15):
I think all quick service mostif not, I would imagine all of
'em have it.
All resort quick service.
I haven't ran into any quickservice that doesn't have this
option.
You can order your food.
In the app.
So basically you can go grab atable, sit down your feet are
hurting, you're hot.
It's sunny out.
You need somewhere to sit, godown and sit down, figure out
(30:37):
what everybody wants to eat, andjust pull out your phone and
order it on your phone.
It will give you a number to goup to the counter.
It'll notify you when your orderis ready.
That
Joni (30:48):
was what I was gonna ask,
because Nick's always the one
that does this for us, so I haveabsolutely no yeah.
Input on this tip, or trick atall, because
Nick (30:57):
it's so convenient.
You sit down, you figure outwhat everybody wants, you input
it
Joni (31:03):
So you don't have to
congregate around the pickup
window.
You're gonna get notified onyour phone,
Nick (31:06):
And then, yep, you just
you pay for it.
I have a tip, I'm paying for itas well.
But in a minute, you pay for it,and then you're, you just wait
for your phone to buzz and tellyou it's ready.
It'll tell you what counter topick it up
Joni (31:17):
Oh, nice number.
Nick (31:18):
counters at most
Joni (31:19):
Oh, that's
Nick (31:20):
say, counter number two,
your order's ready, whatever.
Joni (31:22):
Yeah.
Nick (31:23):
Another tip I have for
this is if you like, we use
Disney gift cards.
That's how we.
Save money at Disney.
We buy the gift cards.
We've talked about that before.
However, and I don't know whyDisney has not done this yet,
but they haven't, you cannotenter your Disney gift cards on
the My Disney Experience app.
I don't know why.
You can only put in credit cardsand debit cards.
(31:45):
So a way around that is you put,you get your gift card, you put
it in your notes app on yourphone, I enter my card number
and my EAN number on there.
So when I go to order.
At the checkout screen, I go tomy notes app and just copy and
paste the numbers from thereinto the My Disney Experience
app.
Okay,
Joni (32:02):
after.
Okay.
So of your credit card or debitcard?
Nick (32:05):
the Disney gift card.
Joni (32:06):
But you just said you
can't use
Nick (32:08):
you.
You can't put it, you can'tstore it in your My Disney
Experience app.
You can only store debits and
Joni (32:13):
That's a good tip because
then you're not fumbling pulling
it out all the time.
You got sweat in your eyes fromrunning down your face or
whatever.
Nick (32:23):
And that works for not
just mobile order for anything
you want to pay for in the MyDisney Experience app with a
gift card.
'cause you can you put it inyour notes app and just copy and
paste the numbers from there.
Okay,
Joni (32:33):
with, okay, good.
Nick (32:35):
So that's what I do.
mobile order, take advantage ofit.
It's a huge time saver.
And you can order.
You can wake up at seven o'clockin the morning and let's say you
want to eat at you're going toAnimal Kingdom and you know you
want to eat at Flametree at1230.
You can order right then, Canorder whenever you can pick up,
you can specify what time youwanna pick it up, or you can
(32:57):
say, I'm here now so you canorder hours ahead if you want,
Joni (33:01):
or like us.
'cause we never know where we'regonna be at any given time.
Nick (33:05):
We just go
Joni (33:05):
we just go and
Nick (33:06):
somewhere.
Joni (33:07):
else and then just order
right there.
And it doesn't take long.
Nick (33:10):
No.
It takes a matter of minutes.
Joni (33:12):
It's sometimes five
minutes.
Nick (33:13):
minutes.
Yeah.
Oh, you, the ordering or for thefood to get
Joni (33:16):
ready for the food to be
Nick (33:18):
Yeah.
It just depends how busy it is.
But it's never super long.
It's never like a half hour oranything.
It may be 15 minutes sometimes, but sometimes it's ready in
minutes.
Joni (33:28):
Five minutes.
Yeah.
I don't remember ever waiting along time for it.
Nick (33:32):
no.
Joni (33:34):
And if you're that hangry
that you can't wait five
minutes, then you should havebeen on your app.
Nick (33:38):
Yeah.
Joni (33:39):
Before
Nick (33:40):
even with mobile ordering,
some of the quick services you
walk into the lines are reallylong.
And
Joni (33:46):
Oh yeah.
Nick (33:47):
I don't know why people
aren't utilizing this more.
it's so convenient.
It's a time saver and you're notstanding in line, you're
standing in lines all dayanyways.
Joni (33:56):
gotta think there's some
generations that aren't.
Nick (33:59):
I know.
I, yeah, we're getting to thatpoint to where More people.
Were starting to use phones butwe're not there yet.
Joni (34:07):
Yeah.
Okay, good.
Nick (34:08):
But yeah, that's our tip
or trick.
Joni (34:10):

Nick (34:11):
