Self-help can feel like a public bathroom. You know you have to go, but you don’t really want to use it. Change is easier when it elicits positive emotions like joy, pleasure, or hope. It’s harder when it elicits criticism, judgement, shame, and guilt. Self-help can quickly leave us feeling like there’s a laundry list of things to “fix” about ourselves.
