Michelle Kuei (00:00):
Tell me if this

creating the perfect socialmedia post only to hear crickets
.
Or perhaps you're puttingyourself out there and showing
up consistently and stillfeeling kind of invisible to the
people that you know you arehere and you're meant to help.
Well, here is the good news.
(00:22):
It is not about working harderor shouting louder or being more
on more places, whether it'syour LinkedIn, facebook or your
Instagram.
It's not about shouting louder.
It's actually about workingsmarter, how you can work
smarter and why greatest coachesare struggling to attract
(00:45):
clients and how do we actuallystop feeling this way?
So if this episode is for you, let's dive right in.
Hey, you're listening to Make itVisible Podcast.
I'm your host, michelle Kui.
I am a visibility marketingcoach and soon to be your
business bestie in the coachingbusiness world.
Not knowing how to connect withyour audience grab the coaching
business world.
Not knowing how to connect withyour audience, grab people's
(01:07):
attention and get them excitedto buy from you should never be
the reason you give up on yourdream to become a full-time
coach.
I'm all about making marketingthe easiest part of your
coaching business, so that youcan turn a passion for coaching
into a visible and profitablereality.
So buckle up, ladies, let's getstarted.
(01:30):
Okay, let's talk about, first ofall.
There is a lot of amazingcoaches.
I know who's out there andwho's pouring their heart out
going out on social media, doinglive and doing Instagram the
reels.
They're dancing their way ontosocial, but somehow there is not
a whole lot of engagement, there's not a whole lot of
(01:52):
follower growing and youprobably get more pitch to their
service than, rather than, requesting for yours.
It's not because you're notdoing enough.
It's actually you're not doingstrategic things that would
actually draw the clients in.
And so posting content, that'sgreat.
(02:14):
That's creating a social mediaonline presence.
If you've been following me fora long time, you know I'm all
about creating that onlinepresence, making sure that you
have all the front, thestorefront, ready to go so that
it's clear to your audience whenthey land on your social media
profile.
And if you have a website, that's even better.
(02:34):
It's not a requirement,especially if you're just
starting new, but if you've beenout in the game for some time,
I highly recommend and suggestthat you do have a professional
looking website, because, infact, if you do want to land on
speaking gig a lot of time.
These are the stuff that peoplewill be looking for, to whether
or not you're legit.
(02:54):
You're not just some pop upcoach from somewhere on the
internet.
You actually have a legitimatebusiness that you are trying to
grow and build.
Depending on where you are onyour journey, if you're starting
new, then perhaps you mightwant to hold back.
Maybe you don't have the budgetto create a website yet, or
perhaps you've been out for acouple of years and you do have
(03:15):
that bandwidth to have aprofessional looking website.
I highly recommend that youactually have a website and if
you need help to write thosecopies, let me know.
Drop into the comment or reachout to me via email.
I can definitely help you withthe copies to make your words
sound more like you only better.
So there's a couple of reasonswhy coaches are struggling to
(03:37):
attract clients.
One is the content.
They keep posting the content, but the information is just very
dry.
I'm pretty sure that you havecome across these type of social
media posts where it's abouteducational stuff.
But educational stuff doesn'thave to be boring and when you
look around, a lot of coachesare posting on social media.
(03:57):
But these are educational postsand when people go onto social.
They're looking forentertainment.
They're looking for somethingthat's fun, something that's
short, something that's punchy, something that attracts their
attention.
If you continue to post thosedry and boring posts, I mean,
it's great to create awarenessfor the fact that our mindset
changes everything right.
Believe me, I know this becauseI used to post the same stuff.
(04:20):
If you scroll all the way backon my Instagram account, that's
what I used to post.
I used to post a lot of thesedry material and content.
It makes perfect sense why Iwasn't getting the traction I
wanted until I learned the factthat there's things that you
need to do on social in order tocreate that engagement, to
invite your audience to actuallyto converse with you or to have
(04:41):
people reaching out to you orsending you DM.
So just posting it's not goingto be compelling enough.
You need a strategy to do that, and I do have a program for
that, by the way.
Posting content is great, but itcan be a little dry sometimes.
Or the material is boring, orthe topic that you have chosen
is just too serious and peoplescrawl you by really quickly
(05:04):
because there's something elsethat captures their attention.
So where does their attentiongo?
They go somewhere else.
The other thing that why greatcoaches are struggling to
attract client is the fact thatsometimes you're attracting the
wrong audience.
You're focusing on too much ofcalling people out but, like a
lot of time, what you decided toland on, it's not really what
(05:25):
people resonate with.
I remember coming across withthis, this amazing coach, and
she's wonderful, she's veryinspiring.
I read her, I read her storyand it's really truly inspiring.
But every time she posed, shealways have that same rhythm of
where the post came from andwhere she got the idea from.
It's the same format all thetime, right, and when we go out,
(05:48):
when we speak to our people, the friends that we meet, or a
stranger we encounter in grocerystores or places that we have
never think of, and we haveconversations.
That's not the way that we talk.
So just because you're on social, just because you're writing
content or just because you'respeaking on YouTube or podcasts
(06:08):
or webinar, it doesn't mean thatyou have to change who you are
right.
So the way that you address tosomeone, the way that you talk
and having a conversation withan audience, you don't want to
lose that personality touch orthat personal touch that brings
people in, because who you areis the ultimate attraction for
people wanting to be closer toyou, right?
(06:30):
So a lot of times, coaches arestruggling to attract client
because it's the wrong audiencethat they're in front of, and
sometimes social media mightjust not be the answer.
And the other reason why someof the coaches and great coaches
they're struggling to attractclient is that we all know this,
because we probably spend awhole lot of time, and there's a
(06:50):
couple episodes I was goingthrough all my episodes that I
have done in the past.
There's episodes where I talkedabout why you need to have a
niche and, same as a speaker, you need to have a defined topic
that you would like to speak onand, whether you're a coach or
a speaker, there's somethingabout narrowing it down to your
specialty, something that keeppeople, give them a reason to
(07:14):
remember you by.
That's really important andthat's going to help you to
attract the right audience.
Because you have that clarityin terms of your messaging,
because we all know that generaladvice.
I can find it somewhere else.
Why would I come to you?
I come to you because you havea special area that you focus on
and you have more knowledgethan anybody else that I can
(07:35):
trust.
So having that a lack of claritylet's just put it that way a
lack of clarity to yourmessaging, is the reason why
you're not attracting those highquality clients.
You're a great coach, right?
We all know you went throughthe trainings and you have years
of experiences.
It's so much that you got theskills, you got the experience,
(07:57):
you got the passion, but somehowthat messaging is just not
landing that post that you'reputting out, the video that
you're creating, it's just notresonating.
What's the problem, right?
So today, in this episode, let's break down the problem.
Let's talk about the problem.
It's not about how you show up.
It's actually about where youshow up and how does the
(08:21):
audience perceive you.
So a lot of times you'll hearme talking about the brand
positioning.
It's about the position thatyou are putting yourself in this
market.
That's going to lead to someoneperceiving you as someone who
is expert or someone who justanother coach, and you don't
want to be seen as just anothercoach.
(08:42):
So the more clarity you have interms of what is it about you
that stands out from the rest ofthe speakers and coaches, the
better you're going to be ableto help to connect with the
right audience that you want toattract, and that's your step
number one, right?
So the clarity is coming fromyou knowing exactly what is it
(09:05):
about your topic, your niche, your specialty, your expertise
that is different from everybodyelse.
Yes, there's a personal touch.
Your personality definitelyplay a role in here.
How you speak to others, howyou show up, you actually is the
reason why you are differentfrom all these other coaches,
(09:26):
but the approach and the waythat you describe it is also
very important.
So, until you have that clarity, sometimes you'll find yourself
like you continue to refineyour niche, but your niche is
not the problem.
It's actually you are theproblem, right?
Because you don't have thatclarity in terms of what that
niche is and therefore, nomatter what kind of niche or
topic that you came up, becauseyou don't have that clarity in
(09:46):
terms of what that niche is andtherefore, no matter what kind
of niche or topic that you cameup with, you don't feel like
it's landing, it's resonating, and so, if you don't have that
clarity, you have that clarityissue and sometimes we're just
way too close to our work inorder to see it.
And, as a matter of fact, Irecently had this experience
where I was having this clarityin terms of, oh, what is it
(10:07):
about me that I can offer to myaudience, my coaches and these
female coaches who are trying togrow and scale their business,
what is it about me?
And so I had to look back, andthis was through a conversation
during a coaching calls, and sothat clarity sometimes it comes
from someone else who share thatperspective of, hey, have you
(10:30):
thought about approaching itfrom this perspective?
And it's that moment of likelight bulb moment that change
everything that you do.
And so you realize what makesyou different and I'm guilty of
this too is that I don't want tooffend people, right?
(10:52):
We don't want to have anopinion that's so strong that it
hurts someone else's reputationor someone else's approach or
someone else's perspective.
And because of that, we tend tobe very soft, we tend to be
very gentle and, in other words,it almost feels like we're
trying to please everyone and wedon't want to piss off somebody
or say the wrong words to makepeople feel offended.
(11:14):
But if you think about it, doyou still have those opinions?
Probably, yes, you wouldn'tcome off very strong and say, oh
, that person is wrong, thatperson doesn't know what they're
talking about.
You come off from a very lovingplace, but you do share your
perspective, you do share youropinion about certain issues or
(11:34):
topics, and so if you try toplease anyone, then it's hard
for people to know, like, wheredo you stand?
And you need to pick a stand.
Especially if you have a topicthat you're thinking about in
speaking, or perhaps you're acoach and you rather focus on
one methodology versus another, then you do need to stand up and
take a stand right, take aviewpoint, and that's really
(11:56):
important, and it also helps toattract the right audience to
you, because chances are theaudience that you're attracting
also resonate with some of thethings that you're sharing, or
the perspective or the valuethat you're delivering through
your content, through yourvideos or through anything that
you create and put out into theworld.
Okay, so those are the problemsthat coaches great, amazing
(12:21):
coaches who are not attractingclients.
So how do we stop feeling thisway?
Right, and that's probablyclient.
So how do we stop feeling thisway right, and that's probably
it's been going through yourmind?
We all know we can feel thatwhen something is not clicking,
something is not translating tomoney, or you're looking at your
bank.
You continue to put out, butyou're not drawing in cash or
(12:42):
revenues, but you would like tohave this business.
So, ultimately, how do weactually stop feeling this way?
So here are some of the waysthat you can stop from feeling
invisible online.
So this is something that Ihave actually gone through and
these are the steps that haveworked for me.
(13:03):
So hopefully I'm sharing thesesteps with you that you can
actually think about where, towards the end of the year, and
you can think about how toincorporate these elements and
take some actions so that, starting in 2025, you're not
going to feel like you'reinvisible and you're just being
overlooked.
Okay.
So step number one is torealize that this feeling of
(13:29):
discouraged, this feeling ofinvisible on social or anywhere,
right, when you go in person orvirtual, in the real world, or
you're here online, it's not areflection of your talent or
your potential.
Okay, all right.
Sometimes I feel like we need toremind each other that it's not
your skill, it's not yourtalent that's in questions.
(13:51):
It's because the strategyable, and we need to get that clear so
that, before you startenrolling yourself to more
(14:14):
certification program orspending more, let's take a step
back and look at all the skillsthat you already have?
Have you been using them totheir fullest?
All the skills that you havelearned and acquired so far?
Have you been using them to thefullest?
If not, it's not because thatskill is not good enough.
(14:36):
That's not enough.
It's because how you present it, how you show it and how you
describe it to the generalpublic, it's not landing.
And if that is the case byenrolling yourself into another
coaching program or to anotherskill, learning another skill or
getting another certificationthat is not going to address the
(14:57):
problem that you had originally.
So we need to get that clear.
It's not your skill or talentthat's in question, it's the
approach, the strategy that's inquestion and therefore you
haven't been able to use theskills that you already have
Right.
So let's start with that asnumber one.
(15:17):
Step number two is we all gothrough our everyday life.
We have this narrative that weall carry in our head, narrative
that we all carry in our head.
And same thing with your dreamclient.
They have this constant innercritics, the voice in their head
(15:38):
.
They're walking around andthinking about their problem,
that they have.
And these are the things thatyou want to address to your
dream client and you want tocreate content, whether it's a
live video, or maybe it's anInstagram reel or a short video
that you're going to post onYouTube, or perhaps it's a
social media content that you'regoing to put out.
You want to be able to addressthe internal narrative that they
(16:01):
have and talk with them Nottalk to them, but talk with them
and walk them through thejourney of how your approach is
going to help to solve thatproblem.
So focus on addressing thoseinternal narratives that your
dream clients would have.
And how do you do that?
I personally found and those ofyou who's following me for a
(16:23):
long time I'm a big fan ofstorytelling.
So a lot of time I tell storiesabout how I was a negative
self-talker and there's a longhistory of how I was using a lot
of the negative comments orcriticism towards myself, and so
you want to be able to use andtell your own stories about how
(16:44):
you were able to overcomesomething.
Or perhaps it's your client whoare able to have this
transformation that they'reexperiencing, and so use those
simple aha moment to demonstratehow this approach and what
they're struggling it's.
They're not feeling it alone,right?
So tell the story.
That will connect.
So that's just so far we talkedabout.
(17:06):
Step number one is you don'twanna think about, you, don't
want to think about you, don'twant to think and feel that you
need more certification in orderto prove to somebody that
you're good enough, right?
So that's step number one.
That's a mindset shift andthat's something that you would
have to put your stick in theground and say, yeah, no, I'm
going to use my skills, what Ihave right now, to the fullest
(17:27):
before I enroll myself toanother certification program.
Okay, cause you'll be surprisedhow many coaches actually
enrolled themselves and have alot of badges, but they're still
struggling to get clients.
So it's not how many badgesthat you have is what are you
going to do with these badges?
If you have no clients, whatare you going to do with them?
Nothing, okay.
(17:48):
So that once you get that clear, then you want to create content
.
Content would be like somethinglike a video, or maybe a blog
post or a social media post, ormaybe it's a podcast episode
like this, right?
So those moments you want toaddress what are some of the
things that your dream clientsare feeling or they're
struggling with, and how youhave the solution that's going
(18:11):
to help them.
And how do you connect withthem?
You connect with them throughstorytelling, whether it's your
own stories or your client'stransformational story.
Share those aha moments withyour dream client, with your
audience, to prove the pointthat, hey, they're not dealing
with, they're dealing this alone.
There's actually people outthere who's like them, who's
(18:33):
dealing the same thing.
So storytelling is your reallybest skills and best strategy
that I wanted to bet my dollarsin 2025, that's actually going
to take off a huge okay, it'sbeen taking off like for years
and years throughout history.
But I bet 2025, you're going tosee a lot more coaches and
(18:55):
speakers using storytelling.
Okay, and stop overthinkingabout your content.
I cannot tell you so.
Over the years, I have workedwith hundreds of coaches and
showing them how to create thatand build that social media
presence and so that they canstart market their coaching
business, and I cannot tell youhow many coaches I have
encountered.
They overthink their contentall the time.
(19:16):
Should I use this line?
Should I say this?
Is that too complicated?
Is it too much?
So you see, all theseoverthinking.
Brilliant mind, okay, brillianthuman you are, and you end up
spending so much time perfectingthat content, your content,
whether it's a video again videoI'm going to use content in
(19:39):
general sense, as in video.
Whether you like to producevideo, podcast or anything, any
type of format that you wouldlike to share with your audience
is that you don't want tooverthink it.
The overthinking is only goingto stop you from posting it, and
your content does you no goodif you keep it in your Google
Drive or your hard drive andit's not out there, right?
(20:02):
That's why you're notattracting clients, because it's
in your hard drive and nobodyelse saw it.
And I remember I had aconversation with one of my
clients and she's notorious forkeeping lots of notes.
Like her notebook was full.
She had pages upon pages ofideas and pages upon pages of
content.
But those pages of pages ofcontent and ideas, if you don't
(20:24):
send it out to the world, it'salways just going to be part of
your notebook and the world willnever see it.
And so stop thinking about yourcontent.
Just put it out there.
Don't let it be perfect, right?
You're not a copywriter.
You're not like me.
I love and enjoy creatingcontent.
I love and enjoy having theselittle tidbits out on the social
(20:45):
.
I rarely write anything.
Keep it just for my notebook.
It's always I have an idea, Ischeduled it and I post it and I
can take it back and refine it,and so don't overthink your
content.
Okay, and sometimes you do wantto.
So the next step is really abouttaking it back and think about
(21:06):
how did it land for some of thepeople.
What are some of the commentsthat I have received?
Are they encouraging?
For example, a couple of weeksago, I had sent out an email.
It had nothing to do withcoaching per se, it was more
about the current situation andI took a moment to take a stand
(21:27):
and validated the feelings thata lot of women are going through
after the election.
And that email I got so manyresponses back, but before I
clicked that send, I washesitating.
I was thinking about whether ornot my message was clear and
whether or not I expressed whatI truly felt and what others
(21:51):
might be feeling.
Moment, you want to take a stepback and reflect on what do I
want this message to be rightand how is it going to receive
by the person and what type ofresponse that I got back.
And I was really glad that Ihad sent out that message
because the comments that I havereceived.
(22:13):
It was just very empowering.
It really brought me in tearsknowing that there are women out
there who felt the same waythat I did.
It was a lot of sadness, grief, that I share in that email, and
I was really inspired and alsofeeling empowered by the fact
that I wasn't the only one whofelt that way.
(22:34):
But when you create thesecontent, once you publish them,
you want to think about.
Was my message clear?
Did I show up authentically,right?
So if you're creating a postand you're using ChatGPT, take a
moment before you post it.
Would this be something that Iwould typically said and that's
a great copywriting skills thatyou can use in your own content
(22:56):
creation?
And I would love for you to trythis out Before you post
anything, go through it and readthrough it to yourself, or
before you go onto a stage andsay something right?
Is this something that I wouldsay in my everyday life?
If the answer is no, then don'tpost it, because then you're
not showing up authentically.
But if the answer is yes thisis how I would feel, this is how
(23:19):
I would say to others then byall means, do share, right,
because that to me isauthenticity.
And so take a moment before youdo anything or taking the action
, think about would this besomething a reflection of my
brand, of my person, who I am,or is this just so that I can
(23:40):
get more engagement?
And that would be a veryimportant notion to think about.
You want to create a brand.
Whether you're a speaker orcoaches, you have a business and
your business representssomething.
Your business represents you.
Especially, if you're asolopreneur and you are
basically the face of yourbusiness, then you don't want to
(24:03):
have the public to perceive assomebody who you're not.
And so take a moment andreflect all the things that
you're putting out into theworld, whether or not this is
something that you wouldtypically use, and is it
authentic?
Does it show authenticity?
Let's summarize real quick.
Okay.
Now social media.
(24:23):
I know a lot of you are usingit, leveraging it to grow your
audience, to be online, to bevisible.
But here's the thing, okay andI say this because this is also
true for me and earlier I talkedabout I have went back and
thought about what is it that Idid that really changed my
(24:44):
coaching business and reallychanged on how my approach to
grow and scale my business isthat I realized social media was
only part of the puzzle.
I remember when I first startedout, I was struggling in the
in-person world because a lot oftime I didn't know how to
approach, I didn't know how totalk to people, and so majority
(25:08):
of my time I brought it back tosocial.
Because social was easy for meto create content and I didn't
have a lot of time that I couldleverage to attend all these
networking events.
So I needed to save time, Ineeded to save money, I needed
to work more efficiently.
So social media was somethingthat's more efficient, something
that was easy for me to access.
(25:29):
But that was only part of thepuzzle.
There's another way that youcan actually amplify and connect
with your dream ideal client inthe way that feels even more
powerful and feels lessexhausting.
Okay, so I'm going to give youa heads up.
(25:50):
I am actually working onputting together a brand new
masterclass where I'm going toshow you and be teaching you
exactly how you can grow yourcoaching business by showing up
in a way that position you asthe go-to authority in the niche
(26:10):
.
Okay and this is, in addition, whether or not you want to be on
social or not, this masterclassis or not you want to be on
social or not, this masterclassis might be it really might be
the answer for you, because thisis something that I have not
done before and, as I reflectback, social media really did
take a take my business off, butthat was only part of the
(26:33):
pieces of the puzzle.
There's another piece that Ihaven't really shared to the
public or to all of you this way, but it really amplified what I
was doing on social.
So the two came really nicetogether and I'm putting
together a masterclass that I'mgoing to share exactly what that
(26:56):
missing piece is.
If you'd like to stay in theloop, there's a link down in the

and it's actually quiteenjoyable, if I may say so
myself.
