Michelle (00:03):
All right besties.
Visibility is not about sayingyes to everything and everyone.
It is about showing up withintention, knowing that where
you show up, the effort that youput in is going to have a
predictable and measurablereturn.
(00:25):
This week, on the Make itVisible podcast, I'm answering
two questions that came from ourcoaching community about
podcast visibility.
One coach asked she came acrossan opportunity to invite her
onto a podcast but she wouldhave to put in $199 as an
(00:46):
investment and she was askingwhether or not this is an
investment that's worth spendingto be on that podcast.
And then another member askedshe actually got an invitation
to be on a podcast and the wholereason for her being on the
podcast is so that she can getfree practice to be on the
podcast for the podcast, which Iwonder.
(01:08):
How does that work?
So in this episode we're goingto talk about the five essential
questions that you should beasking before you say yes to any
podcast invitation or pitchingto any podcast.
You're also going to knowexactly what to watch out for
when the podcast asks you to payto be a guest and how to decide
(01:31):
if an invitation is actuallyfit within your visibility
strategy.
So if this is something thatyou would like to hear more
about.
Grab a chair, grab your drinkand let's get started.
Hey coach, welcome to the Makeit Visible podcast.
(01:57):

(02:20):
all the time, you're in theright place.
This podcast is your go-tospace for learning how to get
seen, get paid and grow abusiness that you can wake up
and you love, without chasing, without selling and definitely
without exhausting Each week.
I'm giving you simplestrategies to show up with
(02:41):
confidence, speak your messageand attract high-paying clients
without doing all the guesswork,so that you know exactly what
is your next best dream.
So grab a notebook, pouryourself a favorite dream and
let's make your coachingbusiness visible.
(03:02):
All right, so let's talk aboutpodcast visibility.
Recently, one of our membersinside our coaching community
sent me a message and askedMichelle, I got this invitation
to be on a podcast, but they'reasking for $199 to be a guest.
Is this worth it?
And, honestly, this isn't thefirst time I heard a question
(03:26):
like that.
A few days later, another coachreached out and said I'm being
invited to be on a podcast.
It's just for practice.
Should I say yes, forvisibility?
So today I want to talk aboutthe difference between exposure
and intentional visibility, andhow to know what is actually
(03:50):
going to grow your business.
Bestie, you're going to want tohear about this.
First of all, I truly believethat visibility comes with
intention, and with intention itmeans that before you hopping
on to a podcast or saying yes toan opportunity there's
(04:10):
opportunity everywhereespecially if you're somewhat
introverted and you don't likethe fear or the hesitation or
the anxiety that comes whenturning on your camera then
being on a podcast is a greatway and strategy for you to grow
your audience and leverageother people, for you to grow
your audience and leverage otherpeople's audience, to grow your
coaching business.
I always come back to thesefive questions before I get onto
(04:33):
a podcast or thinking aboutpitching myself to that podcast
show, whether it's pay or free,or just being part of the
network and exchange andcollaboration.
These are the five questionsthat you want to ask before you
say yes to these opportunities.
Number one is who is theaudience?
(04:56):
Are you aligned with theiraudience type?
Are they aligned with yourbusiness goals?
Are they your potential clients?
Are they going to be yourreferral partners?
Are they your potential clients?
Are they going to be yourreferral partners?
Are there any cross-similarityor future collaboration that you
could see?
(05:18):
Who is the audience is probablythe most important and number
one question to ask, regardlesswhether you're getting
invitation to a podcast or to aconference or speaking
engagement.
This is number one key tomaking sure that the effort that
you're putting in is going tohave a return.
Question number two that Iwould ask all the time is what
is the topic?
Can you speak on this topicwith confidence, with clarity,
(05:42):
or are you just trying tostretch it just so that maybe I
can talk about it this way andmaybe I can spin it this way?
If you're doing that, thenchances are you're stretching it
too far just to say yes to thatopportunity.
So think about what is thattopic that you're so passionate
to speak on and how is thatgoing to align to the podcast
(06:02):
that invited you to and are theymatching, and that's a good
sign and indication whether ornot the effort that you put in
is actually going to send youthe traffic that you need.
One of the struggles that I heara lot of my coaching clients
say is that sometimes they getthese invitations and they're
not really seeing the value ofbeing on their podcast and they
(06:23):
don't quite understand why beingon a podcast could be a
visibility strategies ormarketing strategies that get
you paying clients.
And the answer to that is whenyou have the audience aligned
and your topic is aligned, chances are your audience is
going to.
They're already raising theirhand and say, oh yeah, this is a
topic I like.
And so think about the timewhere you listen to a podcast
(06:47):
and you heard a guest speakingand you decided, oh my goodness,
that guest has amazing gift andI want to go and download.
So you skip that podcast andyou go to that person's lead
magnet or freebie or resourceand you started to download that
person's resource.
So, similarly, you want toapply that in your own business
as well.
So the first two questions arethe key to unlock a lot of these
(07:11):
opportunities and making surethat it is the right podcast for
you to be on.
So what are those two questions?
Who is the audience and what isthe topic?
The third question is veryimportant for you to ask before
you say yes is what is the host, their energy, what is their
value?
Because that's going todetermine whether your dream
(07:35):
client will be sitting there andsay yes.
They're nodding their headalong the way as you're going
through that interview orthey're kind of like wait,
michelle, why are you on thatshow?
This is just so not you.
And, believe me, I have turneddown so many opportunities just
because when I go and do myresearch it turns out I'm just
not vibing with that podcasthost.
(07:56):
And usually those opportunitiesI would not say yes, because we
have different types of energy, different values and it's just
not the way I do my business.
So think of your business as abrand.
When all these opportunitiesshow up, you want to make sure
that the person that you'recollaborating with or being a
guest on their show there's alsosome alignment there in terms
(08:18):
of the value that you both share.
So oftentimes what I'll do is Iwould invite my guests to a
call to a coffee chat to makesure that we're actually vibing
together so we're not sittingduring a podcast show where I
have to dig and dig in order toget that person to start saying
something.
So that's very important andhopefully that is going to help
(08:40):
you to decide which show thatyou want to be on.
Question number four that Iwould always ask is will you
allow me to bring a gift orshare a freebie or talk about my
offer?
Right, because if you're notable to talk about what you do
or what you have to offer, theservice that you're providing,
(09:02):
then you're leaving theopportunity and you're leaving
the lead and you're leaving thereason or the purpose and the
intention behind being on apodcast.
Yes, you definitely want to bethere and provide value, but at
the end, or the purpose and theintention behind being on a
podcast, yes, you definitelywant to be there and provide
value, but at the end of the day, you also have a business to
run.
So are you able to talk aboutyour offer or maybe even a free
lead magnet that you can share,a giveaway that you can talk
(09:23):
about on the show?
These are important and youneed to start asking that
question.
Last question that I always askbefore saying yes to a podcast
invitation or opportunity isalways coming back to my own
visibility strategy.
If I'm doing and promotingsomething else, would I want to
(09:44):
shift my direction and suddenly,oh, I'm going to go on to the
podcast show and making that asmy priority.
If my current priority iscreating my course, or maybe my
current priority is focusing onthe YouTube channel, what I want
to do is put down everythingaway and just getting into a
complete different direction.
(10:04):
You have to sit down and thinkabout what is my yearly goal and
what is my quarterly goal.
What do I want to accomplish inmy business this year, this
quarter and at this time inorder to align that visibility
strategy, to determine whetheror not this is the right move
for you?
The truth and the bottom line isnot every microphone is meant
(10:28):
for you.
Just because you can doesn'tmean that you should.
Not every microphone is meantfor you and you got to be
strategic.
If you have a business and youwould like to leverage podcasts
as your visibility growth to getyourself out there, put
yourself out there so that morepeople can hear about you and
(10:49):
know about you and you wouldlike to speak on the topic that
you're passionate about, so knowthat not every mic is meant for
you, and when you do that, you're actually creating this
brand of hey, I don't serveeverybody.
I'm going to show up withintention for the people who
(11:10):
actually need my help the most, and one of the key things that I
wanted to leave before we go onto the next one is that I
always like to think that theway that you're going to
position yourself is going toallow you to make the money that
you need to run this business, which also allows you to expand
(11:31):
that impact so that you havemore ways to serve and to
accommodate all those in yourworld, including the one who
cannot afford you.
Maybe there's resources thatyou can direct them, and so, in
the sense, if you're looking ata whole picture, you're not
neglecting everybody by justsaying yes with intention.
Everybody, by just saying yeswith intention.
(11:54):
In other words, you don't wantto trade your time just for the
exposure.
There's a difference betweenbeing visible and getting
clients.
You can be visible and you canbe visible without a plan, but
you're not going to be able tocreate that impact.
You're not going to be able toinspire someone to, hey, think
about, maybe I do need to workwith someone in order to achieve
(12:17):
my goal and to get there alittle faster than if I were to
do it alone.
Visibility is about being knownfor something, and it is not
just about being everywhere.
So the more strategic you are, surprisingly, the faster you're
going to grow.
So write this down.
(12:37):
If you have a piece of paperand pen, do write this down.
Visibility is about being knownfor something and not just
being everywhere, and the morestrategic you are, the faster
you're going to grow.
Just think about that for aminute.
(12:58):
So, when I reflected all thequestions that I've been getting
, what I have created is a newspace for coaches who are
serious about their visibility.
That's going to lead intopaying client.
I saw the need because there'sa lot of you out there and
you're wanting to practice yourworkshop.
(13:19):
You wanted to know, like, howdo I structure this presentation
and how do I invite people toengage me?
What are some of the activitiesthat I need to do, and is this
podcast worth being on?
If I'm just looking for a placeto practice, can I practice
that in Toastmaster?
And there's so many places thatyou can practice, but they
don't give you the expertfeedback.
(13:40):
They don't have that supportthat you're going to need in
order to know exactly what wouldbe my next move that would
attract my paying client to comeinto my world, and which is why
I created a new space forcoaches who are serious about
their visibility and they wantto do it with intention.
So I created something calledthe Speak your Way to Clients so
(14:04):
that you can have more practiceand feedback, plus the
visibility that's going to getyou to grow faster in your
business and also getting payingclients.
So what's inside this speak yourway to client community?
It's a membership community andinside the community, we have a
(14:27):
visibility lab where you get tosubmit all the things that you
want to pitch.
You want to create your onlinepresence, you want to position
yourself as the expert and youget the real-time, real expert
feedback so that you knowexactly where to show up, how to
show up, what to say when youshow up.
(14:49):
We also have a monthly speakerlab where you get to practice
your talk every month and you'llget the real-time feedback
about what to do better in yourtalk, how to bring in your offer
.
So you get a chance to practiceyour presentation, put together
a workshop and you haveaudience to be there with you.
(15:11):
We also have VisibilityMarketing Roundtable, which we
meet every month so that you canstrategize right.
Remember, the more strategicyou are, the faster you're going
to grow.
So you'll have an opportunityto come and meet me every month.
We'll strategize together toget you in front of the right
people at the right time.
(15:33):
You don't have to wonderexactly where should I show up
and if this is worth myinvestment, time and energy.
All this is inside ourcommunity.
You have two live calls with meevery month and access to
opportunity to growth and alsoconnecting with other members
inside the community.

So that's recap real quick.
This episode came live because Ikeep getting these type of
questions all the time.
Is this worth my investment?
Should I go and say yes to it?
(16:34):
It really comes down to knowingwhat type of question to ask,
and I gave you five questionsthat you needed to ask before
you say yes to any type ofinvitation.
Number one is who is theaudience?
Number two is what is the topic?
Number three is is the hosthave that energy that you can
(16:55):
really connect with?
Is it similar to yours?
Is it going to elevate yourbrand?
Is it going to be those awkwardmoments where both of you are
sitting on the podcast insilence?
That's not a good sign, whetheror not this is a good energy
that you vibe with.
And number four is do theyallow a call to action or can
you talk about your offer whileyou're on a show?
(17:17):
And also the last question isthis aligned with your
visibility strategy?
Again, just because you candoesn't mean that you should,
and I truly believe that everyvisibility effort that you put
in should take you somewhere.
Otherwise, you're doing a lotof hustling and there's not a
(17:39):
whole lot of return and guesswhat?
Your confidence levels start todrop.
So start showing up where yourmessage is needed and you can
make the most impact, becauseyour next client is out there
waiting for you.
