Michelle (00:00):
Confession time.
I have this habit of coachingmyself through everything.
And I mean everything.
Like having a bad day.
Let's just reframe it.
Really stuck.
What is the story I'm tellingmyself?
And when I have a completemeltdown, take a deep breath.

(00:24):
And let's name that emotion sothat we can release it.
Or maybe you find yourselfsitting in front of your desk,
opening your journal with a pen,and you're telling your journal
more things instead of findingthe right support to work it

(00:44):
through.
Let me know if this sounds likewhat you do.
Because self-coaching is great, having the skill as a coach is
fantastic.
But when it comes to buildingyour coaching business,
self-coaching might be the exactthing and the reason why you

(01:07):
are not getting any payingclients.
So today, let's talk aboutsigns that you being
self-coaching may be a littletoo much, and why your coaching
skills might be the thing that'skilling your coaching business.
Hey coach, welcome to Make ItVisible Podcast.
I'm Michelle Quay, yourvisibility marketing coach, and

(01:29):
I help female life coaches toget seen in all the right
places, attract happy payingclients, and build a coaching
business that actually feelsgood to run.
Even if you are still trying tofigure things out.
Each week I'm giving youvisibility tips, simple
marketing strategies, andshowing you how to create the
kind of content that connectswith your audience so that you

(01:52):
can stand out, build yourauthority, and attract clients
who's already feeling like a yesbefore they jump onto your
discovery call.
So grab a notebook, pouryourself a favorite drink, and
that's make your coachingbusiness visible.
So full confession because lastweek I was all busy, and those

(02:14):
of you who's following me onsocial or you're in my podcast
community or email community, you probably have gotten a lot
of information about theenrollment to Coaching Biz
Builder.
And this is probably going tobe my last enrollment to the
program itself this year.
Um, I am taking some easy timefor the next two months or three

(02:39):
months.
Um, I am traveling to Austin,Texas.
Those of you who are in Texas, give me your shout out.
Um, go and follow me on myInstagram or send me a DM.
Let me know if you're in Texas.
So I'm taking a couple of days.
I'll be spending some time inTexas.
There is a mastermind that Ibelong to that my mentor coach

(03:02):
is running, and so I would liketo learn.
This is where the coachingskill comes in.
So resourceful in findingsolutions and looking for
solutions.
We all have that mentality ofthere is no problem, there's
only solution.
And only if if I can uh findthat solution, everything would

(03:23):
be fine.
So, sign number one of how ourcoaching skill is sabotaging us
or killing our coaching businessis that we're being too
resourceful.
So we find ourselves in thislearning mode.
So, back to the story that Iwas gonna tell you, how I'm
gonna be spending a couple ofdays in Texas.
I'm gonna be working through acouple of the things that I

(03:44):
wanted to strategize movingforward, like the things I
wanted to do in 2026, and alsoto really look at the things
that I've been doing, all theprogram that I've been offering,
like how I can expand, and alsoto scale to the next level,
right?
We're always looking for roomto grow.
But the reason number one, andsign number one, why your

(04:06):
coaching skills might be the onethat's uh killing you and
sabotaging you in your business,is being resourced, finding
yourself saying this too, iswhere you're listening to
podcasts, you're watchingYouTube video, and nowadays we
have Chat GPT, so you might alsobe asking ChatGPT all these
different questions about how doI get more paying client or how

(04:29):
do I market myself.
And honestly, ChatGP is great,it's going to give you a list of
all the things that you need todo that you should be doing and
you probably want to do in sometime in your business.
But at the end of the day, youhave all these ideas and you're
learning from all thesedifferent places.
But the thing about learning isthat you can learn all day.

(04:54):
It is about taking those, whatyou learn and implement and
integrating them into yourbusiness.
Now, the integration part isprobably the most challenging
part because you have to knowexactly what to integrate from
the information that you havelearned.
That's a creating a funnel,right?

(05:14):
There's all these differenttypes of funnel that you hear
out there.
In case you don't know whatfunnel is, is basically how do
you get more clients, right?
How do you get more clients?
And the funnel is going to helpyou to whether it's on social
or in person, how you're beingfound to how does someone start

(05:35):
working with you?
And that journey is basicallywhat a funnel is designed to do.
It brings people closer to youso that you can turn them into
paying clients.
So for those of you who's notfamiliar with what funnel is,
that is what essentially what isa funnel.
Okay.
Now, when you when you learnthat for the first time, you're
like, oh, that sounds great, youknow, because then I can put

(05:58):
myself out there, I can get moreclients by just creating a
funnel.
But there's all these differentkinds of funnel that depending
on what you choose and whatyou're capable of, your
knowledge, your technology, howfamiliar you are with
technology, you may come acrosssome challenges or difficulty in

(06:20):
integrating them.
So, for example, there's avideo funnel.
Okay, there's video funnel, andthere's like uh things that you
create with a PDF or a workshopor a webinar.
So that's say you are creatingvideo funnel.
Now you might learn that, oh,creating a funnel is great, and
the next thing that you learn isa video funnel.

(06:40):
So now you take that videofunnel, that idea, and what kind
of lighting do I need?
What type of microphone do Ineed to uh buy and purchase?
And how do I how do I getsomeone to watch the video?
Where do I need to be?
So it starts to spiral justbecause that you're so
open-minded to learn that onething that will bring your leads

(07:04):
into clients.
So we're so resourceful, we'relooking for information, and
what do we do with thisinformation?
It creates a roller coaster ofoverwhelm.
And that's where overwhelmbegins.
So if there's idea floatingaround your Google Drive and um,
it's just not gonna grow yourbusiness, right?
So I'm in this place of Ibelieve simplicity is going to

(07:28):
help you to build your business, especially when you are in the
beginning of your journey.
Don't try and overcomplicate, like a lot of these strategies
that you hear out there, youknow, they're great, they work,
but you really have to be uhconscious and trying to pick the
right one, right?
At your stage, it gotta makesense.

(07:48):
Some of the strategies that Ihear like my clients have
learned or heard from the past,I'm like, yeah, it's great, but
that doesn't make sense in yourbusiness at this stage of your
life.
So why are you following that, right?
So you gotta think about howyou integrate these information
because essentially you don'thave a learning problem, you
have an integration problem.

(08:09):
So that was sign number one ofyou're being too resourceful.
Uh, sign number two of how ourcoaching skill is sabotaging us,
and believe me, I use this onea lot.
Um, especially if you uh so Igraduated from iPad coaching,
and one of the phrases that wehave inside the program is trust
the process.

(08:29):
Now, if you also graduated fromiPad coaching, I would love to
hear from you.
Uh, just go ahead and hit replyto my email, or there's a
there's a little text messagethat you can send, click on that
link, and you can send me sendme a trust the process.
What does it mean for you?
I really, I really want to hearlike from from my fellow

(08:51):
coaches out there.
What do you what does it meanfor you to trust the process?
Uh, but sign number two is thatyou're trusting the process a
little too much.
Okay, now here's what I mean.
There's things that don't workor things that didn't work the
way that I was hoping it towork.
So when that happened, I wouldalways come back and I would

(09:12):
come home and I would say, well,I just need to trust the
process because buildingbusiness is part of that
process, right?
So if it's something is notworking, I need to trust it and
give it some time becauseeventually if I just show up
more, people would notice andpeople would come, right?

(09:33):
Except three months into mybusiness, I was totally trusting
the process, but there was noclients coming in.
So that's when I startrealizing that yes, manifesting
it, having the alignment, trusting the process are all

(09:53):
important, but essentially whatreally going to change a
business is sometimes you needto lower, have a lower level of
energy.
So I'll give you an example.
So in the past, I would writeemail, I would send it out, and
I'm just like, well, it's out inthe universe, right?
Because I wrote it and I sentit out and I showed up, or

(10:16):
something like writing a post.
I showed up, I posted it.
So I'm just gonna trust theprocess that if it needs to land
with somebody, it's going toland with somebody, right?
It's somebody out there isgoing to receive it and it would
be the right person, it wouldbe the right time.
But in reality, you could behaving that great mindset all

(10:38):
day long, but that is not goingto help to track the result, to
narrow down your effort, tostreamline your energy, to make
sure that the actually the rightpeople would see the post or
read the email.
So trusting the process isgreat, but trusting yourself in

(11:01):
taking those actions, that'seven better.
So just think about that.
Are you trusting the processtoo much?
So let me know if you'retrusting the process a little
too much.
Um, sign number three of howour coaching skills are
sabotaging us in our coachingbusiness is that you're being
too good of a coach, but notenough being a CEO.

(11:25):
And what I mean by that is I goaround and I remember this is
also something that I did umwhen I was doing live coaching,
mindset coaching.
And I would go on to social andI would write these posts, and
they're very inspirational, verypowerful.
And you always get people tothink about the things that they
need to think about in theirlife, right?
And I get comments on, oh, thatwas really inspirational, or

(11:50):
oh, that was very motivating.
But at the end of the day, Ididn't want to just like coach
them for free.
I want them to sign up.
And so this is what I see a lotof time is that a lot of
coaches are creating posts orwriting posts in the way that
they're being a great coach, giving away mini sessions, but

(12:10):
they're not being the CEO or thebusiness owner where they're
thinking about my job is not togive away the mini coaching
session, right, for free.
My job is actually to invitethem to look at the solution
that I can offer and help.
And that ultimately creates amore sustainable result for your

(12:33):
client, for your audience.
If you change your mindset orthe way that you show up on
social, instead of being a greatcoach, how about you blend in a
little bit of the CEO businessuh side of you so that people
are not just leaving comments orleaving likes or thinking that,
oh, your what you share is veryinspirational, but actually

(12:54):
thinking about, get them tothink about how they can start
working with you and why theyshould be working with you.
So those are the three thingsthat show up very often in my
life in the past, where I coachmyself through a lot of things.
I was stuck in this learningmode to applying them, and I was
really trusting the process alittle too much because

(13:15):
everything when something badhappened, I was just talking
myself out of it.
I'm like, oh, it's it's okay,it's not the end of the world.
This is all part of thelearning.
I just need to trust theprocess.
I'm sure you're very familiarwith those uh those words.
You probably repeated them inyour mind too.
And the third one is I wasbeing a great coach and I'm

(13:36):
always showing up and being veryhelpful, and I leave people
with inspiration.
But at the end of the day, they're not thinking about, oh,
um, perhaps, you know, I need tostart working with her because
this is exactly what I need andhow I need help.
So if those resonate, pleaselet me know.
Um, I would love to hear fromyou.

(13:56):
Like, what are some of thecoaching skills that you have
found is actually doing you adisfavor in your business rather
than helping you movingforward?
Um, maybe it's the self-talk,whether it's positive or
negative, what are some of thethings that you have noticed

(14:16):
that your coaching skill is kindof sabotaging you and causing
you feeling stuck or stayingstuck?
Now, if you are nodding yourhead alone and you're looking
for ways exactly, what are thesteps?
Like I said, you know, one ofthe things that I really love is
how to simplify um things inour business.

(14:38):
You don't really need a wholelot or complicated steps in
order to get your paying client.
