SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
So earlier I came
across this post inside of
Reddit, and the coach wasasking, My clients are women in
career transition.
So you would think LinkedInwould be a natural marketing
channel for me.
And when I saw that firstsentence, and my reaction was,
Oh my goodness.
(00:22):
This has not been the topic thatI talked about on this podcast
before.
So today we are going to talkabout that.
Hey coach, welcome to Make ItVisible Podcast.
I'm Michelle Quay, yourvisibility marketing coach, and
I help female life coaches toget seen in all the right
places, attract happy payingclients, and build a coaching
(00:43):
business that actually feelsgood to run.
Even if you are still trying tofigure things out.
Each week I'm giving youvisibility tips, simple
marketing strategies, andshowing you how to create the
kind of content that connectswith your audience so that you
can stand out, build yourauthority, and attract clients
who's already feeling like a yesbefore they jump onto your
(01:05):
discovery call.
So grab a notebook, pouryourself a favorite drink, and
that's make your coachingbusiness visible.
Alright, so here's the statementthat hear so many times from so
many different coaches, especially those of you who's in
career transition, leadershipniche, or anything that's other
(01:28):
than just thinking about doinglife coaching.
Now, life coaching, I get it,you have this perception of no
one is going to pay me highdollar for life coaching.
So there's this belief that if Ineed to have a six-figure
coaching business, if I need tomake higher ticket sales, I need
(01:52):
to have a niche that would beprofitable.
Things like career transition, leadership coaching, corporate
coaching, business coaching, those are the niche that's going
to help me to make a lot ofmoney.
But I'm not passionate about it.
I'm passionate only about lifecoaching.
What do I do?
When I talk to so many differentcoaches, there's this belief
(02:15):
that if my niche has anything todo other than life coach, then I
need to be on LinkedIn, which issuch a big limiting belief.
And so my reaction to thatquestion and that comment that
this coach had posed it was docareer transition women, do they
not have a life outside of work?
(02:37):
Seriously, do you really thinkthat the woman who's in career
transition, they're going to besitting in front of the computer
or glued to their screen, scrawling through LinkedIn,
finding answers and findingsolutions.
I can tell you, no, they'reprobably not on LinkedIn for
(03:00):
that purpose at all.
So the fact that you're thinkingthat my clients are women in
career transition, you wouldthink that LinkedIn.
No, absolutely not.
I want you to think about, andthis is something that I
addressed with a lot of myclients too, when they brought
out my niches in leadershipcoaching.
(03:20):
So therefore, I need to be onLinkedIn.
If you think about your ownbehavior, most of the time you
don't go onto LinkedIn for fun.
You don't go onto LinkedIn forentertainment.
And when you are on LinkedIn,chances are you're looking for
very specific reasons.
So I am not going to be onLinkedIn 24-7 just for the sake
(03:42):
of it.
If I need to go and look forresource, then sure, I will go
to LinkedIn and have a reallyspecific purpose in mind to log
on and to search for answers.
But majority of the time, youreveryday women who are in career
transition, they're probablyhanging out on places like
(04:04):
Indeed.
They're trying to update theirresume so that they can find a
job.
So where would they be hangingout then?
Stop thinking about what thisperson does.
And therefore, LinkedIn is theonly place that makes sense.
You need to start thinking aboutthe behavior and what are the
(04:25):
interests of these women who arein transition.
Maybe they're looking for placeswhere they can join a group.
Maybe they have every Thursdaynight they go to a book club.
Maybe every Tuesday they have asoccer game at the soccer field
with their kids.
Where does the soccer mom hangout?
(04:45):
That's something that you needto think about.
And that's something that youwant to research more.
Is outside of work, what arethese people doing so that you
can be in front of them to buildthat relationship and build that
trust?
Because if you're solely relyingon somebody searching for you on
(05:06):
LinkedIn and just once in theblue moon, then you're not
really leveraging your socialmedia presence at all.
And that to me is such a biglimiting belief that so many
life coaches, so many careercoaches or leadership coaches
are missing the whole point ofbeing on social.
(05:27):
And so my response was that doyou honestly think that they're
sticking their face into theLinkedIn looking for you?
Chances are no.
They're probably busy scrollingon Instagram or TikTok or
joining a Facebook group wheretheir soccer mom hangout.
And I don't know why I keepusing the soccer mom as an
example.
(05:47):
You get the point.
If it's not soccer mom, maybeit's Thursday night.
They go to a woman wine and dineclub, maybe they join book club,
maybe they have some otheractivity, maybe they're learning
how to cook, maybe they'rejoining cooking classes, or
maybe they're learning how tobake stuff.
So maybe a baking school.
(06:09):
There are so many interest-basedFacebook groups or community
center and places that you cantap into that you can connect
with them.
And that's where yourrelationships start.
That's your handshake, not allthe time on LinkedIn, because if
you think about all the peoplewho's behaving on LinkedIn, you
(06:29):
end up getting a lot of marketerpitches rather than your actual
potential clients.
Because the reason why we hangout on LinkedIn is very
different than how we hang outin our everyday life.
To me, those of you who havethat belief that my client is
only on LinkedIn, you're missinga big piece of the opportunity
(06:55):
that you could have outside ofLinkedIn.
LinkedIn is not your answer.
And if you have spent the last30 days on LinkedIn, no matter
what niche you're in, and you'restill struggling with getting
clients, then there you go.
There's your missing piece.
And maybe you and I need to talkbecause we need to talk about
(07:18):
the strategies that you've beenusing that lead to nowhere,
basically.
So that was my observation fromone of the coaches who had
posted inside the Reddit, andthat has been also one of the
huge mistakes that I see a lotof coaches who just assume that
(07:39):
my clients are only going to beon LinkedIn or on Instagram or
on Facebook.
That is a huge mistake and it'sfatal to your coaching business.
Now, if you like this episode, Iwould love for you to comment or
hit reply to my email.
Let me know what stood out foryou, what has been your strategy
(08:01):
on social media.
I want to know.
Yeah, maybe we can do anothersequel to this episode.
Until then, I will talk to yousoon.
Bye.
