Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, everybody, and a welcome.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's me, the guy that didn't get the job at
the Tony Awards. Here they'll welcome you to the second
annual Mergies. What is it? Who cares? Here's Chase, It's me.
It's me. It's that C ch A S C.
Speaker 1 (00:20):
And I'm exciting to be here with the mergees.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Dang, did you just.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Come up with her right now? Yeah? Dude, I was
off the top of my head.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Maybe you should have been on the Tony's You could
have done the Hamilton thing would have been great.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
I'm not throwing away my shot mine the doorgy.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
Oh there it is.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
Oh, we're off to a good start.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
We're gonna put out a full Hamilton parody album.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
That's all survivors.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
What would it be nothing?
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Being ten years late to the fad that is now.
Hamilton is bigger than a fad. What am I talking?
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Yeah, dude, Hamilton's forever, Hamilton's fro. Hamilton was big and
said seventeen seventy six, it was big in twenty and fifteen,
and it's big now.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
Can you imagine like having a disagreement with somebody and
being like, I can think of only one way to
handle this.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
And it's with a duel.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
I thought you were about to be like, imagine that
you don't like a guy, and then like two hundred
years later, someone makes a musical about it and it's
like a smash success that revitalizes the medium of theater.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
Yeah, yeah, hey man, I can only agree with one
son and then killing them too.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Well, I don't have to imagine that.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Oh whoa, whoa you good bro.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Anyway, Welcome to the Mergees, guys. This is actually the
draft recap episode. We're gonna be recapping the draft from
season forty eight, where you know, someone I'm not gonna
say who famously won the draft this season is their
first time winning. It was someone else's second time. We
don't have to get into that. But before we get
(02:07):
into the draft and we start recapping all of the
dumb or great decisions that we made two weeks into
the season forty eight, we gotta go over who won
the Mergi Awards. Wow, let's just go through the first award,
the Gone too Soon Award, which survivor forty eight player
didn't make the Merge and we thought was gone too soon.
(02:29):
We had eight hundred and seventy four votes, and it's like, ya.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
Eight times as much as last year, right, like last year,
last year it only got like, oh.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Mike was great.
Speaker 1 (02:43):
If you remember last week when I was like, let's
try to get three hundred footes, look at us, look
at us. And it's all because brands here.
Speaker 2 (02:53):
Oh well thanks.
Speaker 1 (02:54):
It was all because of you, man.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
It's all because people thought that, like, if brands come
to us about the awards, maybe it's okay that I
am too, and they vote.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah, yeah, no one else was confused. Just you. Oh okay,
guys with a landslide win.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
The Gone Too Soon Award goes to Thomas.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, yeah, you remember who you brought?
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Who I nominated? I believe I nominated Thomas. Dang it? Yeah,
do you not remember who you nominated?
Speaker 4 (03:29):
No?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Actually I think I nominated justin pizza.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
I nominated Kevin. If my notes are correct, apparently I
voted for Thomas.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
What the heck I thought PD voter or nominated Kevin.
Maybe maybe you nominated Thomas?
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Okay, maybe what have I wrote down Kevin?
Speaker 3 (03:45):
And then Thomas was still around and I threw him
in there nice and I have a great memory.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Yeah I don't have a great memory as well, which
is why I usually PD is like kind of needing
to least. I don't know. He never gives a reason
when he can't make it.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Yeah, but it's fine, but none of us want.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
To argue about it.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
He does enough work to make it.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
It's like, yeah, whatever, ja and what is he doing
just watching a Stephen Curtis Chapman video over?
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, Rose, Jonathan, Man, you announced the next award.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Dude, Okay, okay, I can do this.
Speaker 3 (04:21):
Okay, the Big Mistake Award the nominees if you remember
and start giving Eve her idol. We had Chrissy talking
at Tribal. We had Cedric keeping say over Justin, which
was a longer version of what I wanted, which was
just Cedric and Camilla telling Kyle that she would not
(04:46):
take him to the final three.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
The winner with thirteen hundred.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Wow, dude, Wow.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
Oh my gosh. I'm just seeing this for the first time,
Cedric keeping say over Justin?
Speaker 1 (05:03):
What won? I think you are?
Speaker 2 (05:08):
Man?
Speaker 1 (05:08):
It shows just how much you had your pulse on
the season.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Man.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
You know what I'm speaking to believe that people, that's
people voting for me.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
Just bringing Cedric. It's like, yeah, we got what brand
wanted here. What how about that for the vote?
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Yeah, it was it was a hefty, hefty win. Dude
in second place.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
Because Camilla only got twenty Camilla telling Kylo only got
twenty percent.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
I kind of in my mind that's a bigger deal.
Speaker 1 (05:39):
But I agree, which is why I nominated it. But
actually the second place was Star giving Eva her idol,
which also makes sense. That was a crazy move. In hindsight,
it wasn't crazy.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
But.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Man, the Big Mistake Award, that was awesome. The next award,
the Baby come Back Award. These are the you can
blame it on, Jeff. This is who we would want
to see play Survivor again. And the people that are
actually coming back for season fifty.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
You're not out of nominally them, the three of them,
The three of them.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Were fine.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
The nominees were Star, Thomas, Cedric and Mary and the
winner in a poll that had six hundred and forty
eight votes, Thomas winning another award.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
Big year for Thomas.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
You know what's insane And this is what me and
p D were talking about after we did the nomination
show last week. Mitch was only nominated for one award,
and it was the quote award, and then you got
someone like Thomas who is.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
Like all over our award and cleaning house shows you,
shows you how as long as you're a big character,
it doesn't matter when you go home. I gotta be honest,
I'm pretty surprised that we're through three awards.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
And Mary hasn't won one yet.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Dude, I thought Mary was gonna landslide all of them
that she was nominated for, because Mary, in my mind,
is the biggest fan favorite of the season.
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Now let's talk about Cedric. Only three percent of the
vote for this.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
So what is three percent of six and forty eight.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
I'm not good at math, but it's like two Cedric
and his his kids or something.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
Hold on, I'm gonna actually do the bathroom.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
The math real quick.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
Can you imagine if Cedric was one of the three
they brought back for fifty.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
If I did my math, if I did my math correct,
nineteen people voted for some Okay, which is that's nineteen
more than I thought he was gonna get.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Yeah, for sure.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Read this our next award, brand right, this is the
quote of the Season award.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
We've got Say saying and She's running. We've got Camilla's
very long quotes.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
About the bus and whatnot. I'm not going to read
the whole thing.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
We've got, Uh, Mitch, we've got to make a move soon. Uh,
and we've got what's this good?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Dude? Is his name?
Speaker 1 (08:23):
David?
Speaker 2 (08:23):
David? David saying knock knock, who's there? And the winter?
Speaker 1 (08:29):
Uh yeah, this is gonna be crazy. Go ahead and
announce it.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
What do we do?
Speaker 1 (08:34):
So there is a tie? Guy with eight hundred and
sixty three votes, Camilla and Mitch, their two quotes are tied.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
How is that?
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Me and Peter? That's dude, It's insane that we had
a tie out of like eight hundred and sixty three votes.
Me and pd had to sit down and come up
with the rule for this. What do you do? The
rule is we get to decide we're the tide breaker.
We get to decide.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
Oh my gosh, you and me.
Speaker 1 (09:04):
Here's my pitch. Yeah, here's my pitch for who I
think should win it. Mitch shared this post to his story,
which means that we got a big influx of Mitch fans.
Camilla is on a Fijian island right now. She didn't
have a chance to share it and get her fans
in there to vote for her. So I think if
(09:25):
we take away Mitch's kind of like he shared it
to his audience, Camilla would have won. So I say,
we vote for Camilla.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Are your That's good. That's good enough logic for me.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
I I'm taken aback by this guy Miles in the comments,
who's just real grumpy about the quotes. Anyway, Yeah, say
commented with a bunch of crying emoji's.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
That makes me happy. But I like it.
Speaker 3 (09:55):
I say we go, we rock with Camilla winning because
Mitch shares.
Speaker 2 (10:00):
But maybe, but we don't want to. I don't know.
It's nice that.
Speaker 1 (10:02):
Mid shared it, right, Yeah, No, it's very nice that
Mid shared it. But I'm just thinking, like statistically, he
would not have won if he had not shared it. Yeah,
and Camilla didn't get the opportunity to share it because
she's in Fiji playing again.
Speaker 3 (10:15):
That's a great points. That's a great point. All right,
let's do it. Let's roll with Camilla.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Awesome because also, I just don't I would feel bad
if Mitch won something.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
He didn't make a move the whole thing here, all right.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Our next award, the Villain Award, the Villain of the
Season who do you all think was the biggest villain
of season forty eight. We did put a disclaimer in
the caption of this one. We have no idea why
Brand nominated Camilla for this. We don't think he really
understood the assignment.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Do you see shout out to Ricky?
Speaker 3 (10:58):
Ricky said Camilla was way closer to a villain than
she was a hero.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
That's for sure. It's all in the eye of the beholder.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Okay, PD's over there, just you know, kissing the feet
of Camilla.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
That's weird. I shouldn't have said it that way.
Speaker 3 (11:14):
But just because we're a fan of someone doesn't mean
that they aren't also a villain.
Speaker 1 (11:21):
That's very true, very true, and I agree with you.
I thought that the Camilla nomination was out there because
I don't think many people would have considered her a villain.
But she did say very villainous things like running people
over with buses.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
And did she come in she lied a lot. Did
she come in last place?
Speaker 1 (11:39):
No? No? So well, so nice nice guys finished last.
So she's not a nice guy. Is that what you're saying?
Speaker 2 (11:50):
I just know.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
All I'm saying is I clearly I tapped into something here.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Right, I tapped in haters, aster ricks.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
You confused me. But with six hundred and forty seven responses, yep,
a sixty nine percent win. It's say Baby. Everybody voted
for Say.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
I wonder what Say thinks about being the villain? Do you?
I mean I think she likes it? You think so?
I mean she commented on one and not.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
The other, so she might have just not seen this one.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Maybe not, Because I'm not gonna make any assumptions.
Speaker 1 (12:34):
She probably saw the quote one because Mitch shared it
to his Instagram store.
Speaker 2 (12:37):
Oh okay, all right, you know this is That's nice
of you.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
But what I will say is that someone in the
comments of this said use this as an Eva was
the real villain button and sixty people liked it, so
she actually got a strong amount of votes too, and
she wasn't even nominated.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
Eva was not a villain. Get out of here. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
No, I don't think she was a villain. I think
she was just kind of a boring place. But guys,
say with a landslide. Thomas came in second place with
twelve percent of the votes. Camilla with ten Charity got
less votes than Camilla, which is crazy.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
That's right, because one of them was an actual villain.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
Anyway, making the Merge MVP Award, which is the person
who is the most valuable player to the podcast, not
necessarily to the show itself.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
We do have Mother Mary herself, who.
Speaker 3 (13:32):
Has sent in many eclipse and is just an overall
great time.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
We got David who we just had a lot of
fun talking about.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
A lot of fun and I wrote a song about it.
I was having so much fun.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, we got Joe lots to talk about with Joe obviously,
and then Star Star Updates was the gift that kept
on giving.
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Yes, but ultimately the winner finally is Mayor.
Speaker 1 (14:00):
With seventy percent of the votes. It was a landslide.
Mary's the best, Mary's.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
The best, but start he come in second place.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
Star obviously another who Star was a slow burn, I
think for a lot of people, including myself, But once
you kind of fell in love with Star, it was
it was hard not to cheer for Star.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
She was a big Internet darling, like the Internet's the
big Internet fans over on Twitter really loved Star so much,
absolutely so. Not not super surprised you came in second, but.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
Not surprised that that Mary came in first.
Speaker 1 (14:34):
Exactly. Our next award, the Funniest Castaway Award. The nominees
Mary once again, Star once again, David once again, and Sedrick,
who was the funniest player on the Island Guys Star
with sixty of the votes. When's the Mergye Mary was
(14:58):
in a strong second a place with pans applying.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
I think about that song all the time, all the time.
Speaker 1 (15:09):
My favorite comment from any of our award posts was
when someone said, you guys clearly forgot about Mitch's hilarious
mailman story.
Speaker 3 (15:20):
Uh yeah, and listen, someone mentioned why is Shakeen not
on there?
Speaker 1 (15:25):
We get it?
Speaker 2 (15:26):
So we had to make room for Cedric. I don't
know what to tell you.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Yeah, I mean he just wasn't that funny. I mean
he was definitely outspoken, he was doing bids, but he
didn't make me laugh as like hard as Cedric made
me laugh.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Yeah. Yeah, that's the thing, Like I I think, like
Shaheen is a.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Funny guy, right, but like it's the type of funny
that's like, oh that's funny, you know, like when he
did that yeah, yeah, when he did the singing thing,
the like, oh that's funny, and then they do the
thing behind it. With the music and I'm like, oh,
that's good, great Cedric. I laughed multiple times.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
So you want dying laughing.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (16:08):
Anyway, the Game Changer Award is up next.
Speaker 3 (16:13):
Uh. These are moments that kind of changed how the
game was played and who won and all that good stuff.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
Up.
Speaker 3 (16:20):
First, Camilla convincing Joe that sha Heen has an idol.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
It's a big moment.
Speaker 3 (16:27):
Camilla giving Kyle the layup at final tribal, basically interrupting
Eva as she's bragging about this move and.
Speaker 2 (16:35):
Being like, that's not what happened.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Eva telling Joe about her autism obviously a big moment,
which led to even bigger moments later in the season.
And then Mary's successfully using her shot in the dark. Oh,
what a legendary moment. Love to see it. The winner
This is a pretty close one. Uh, no real runaway here.
The winner is Camilla can convincing Joe about Shaheen having
(17:03):
an idol. A big moments, a big moment, and I
think this one is a is a correct choice to
me because it's like without this moment Camilla giving Kyle
the layup, can't can't have one without the other, And
so just a big moment in the game for sure
(17:24):
one number.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
I think that was the that was the right choice.
A lot of people voted for Camilla helping Kyle at
the final tribal council, but just like you said, can't
have one without the other. Not A lot of people
voted for the Eva confiding in Joe, which I thought
was shocking because that's a huge.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
I think people were just over it, you know.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
I think people are more over the Eva Joe thing.
I think if you take a step back and look
at it, it's a huge moment. But I understand that
it was played up a ton. We saw that moment
in the moment and the challenge everywhere for a ever, and.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
So I get being over it.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
I do have questions about, uh, maybe we should figure
out some sort of different, uh, how way to shortened
Shot in the Dark, because right now it just as
Mary successfully uses her s I t D, which sounds.
Speaker 1 (18:14):
Not great when I when I was posting that, I
realized that what it looked like and I was like,
but I can't spell, there's not enough characters.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
I don't know how you fix it. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
So I just had to do Shot in the Dark
s I t D dude, and she used that s
I T D. Brother, sure did.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
It's better than just than just getting rid of the eye,
for sure, that would have been.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Unfortunately, our next award the Making the Merge Running Bit nominees.
That are these are the running bits on our podcast
that we got to have fun doing all season long.
The nominations Chrissy is speaking, and then the songs that
we did throughout the season. We had several songs. We
(18:55):
had the Big Bro Club, We had the song that
Brand made about David and Mary yep and I'd.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Give up forever.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
Some great songs, some great songs, some not even released
unless you're a patron that some patreonic exclusive songs, the
Stone Cold Eva, Austin Autism three sixteen, and then finally
demon Cedric the Carolina Reaper himself coming on the show
(19:29):
to scream at all of us from hell. Guys, this
was another close one, another one, but with thirty seven
percent of the votes are songs that makes sense. You
guys did such a great job with the songs this season. Man,
it was awesome.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
It was a fun uh, I don't know, thing that
just kind of happens, you know. Yeah, Yeah, these were
those things where it's tough where someone does one.
Speaker 2 (19:54):
You know, PD did the first one. Yeah, it's like.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
If I if I try, if I try to do one,
am I like is it really gonna work?
Speaker 2 (20:02):
And luckily it just seemed to work.
Speaker 1 (20:04):
Every time, So yeah, well it helped that. It was
like PD did the first one and then Jonathan just
came out swinging with Big Broke Club right after that,
it was it was game over. After that, we had something.
We had something there. Some of the comments on this one,
a lot of people said so hard, they were all perfect.
Someone said Stone Cold Eva Austin was the best, but
(20:27):
damn if those songs weren't good. Carolina Reaper has entered
my survivor vernacular. Y'all are so good at the songs
and soundbits. I vote that you make a new We're
Better opening to the show. This caused a lot of
controversy behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Is that mean?
Speaker 1 (20:41):
And p D and Jonathan were not happy with that
comment because they love our theme song the song. We
do have a great theme song, but I did see
where they were coming. We bring a lot of energy.
Our show is chaotic, but our theme song very vibe,
very low fun. So I could see why they would
suggest that. I didn't think it was a bad suggestion,
(21:04):
but PD almost had an aneurysm.
Speaker 2 (21:06):
Well, listen, you can't come out swinging with, you know,
something like that crazy. I can't have stone Cold right
out of the gate.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
I love stone Cold, brother. So that was our making
the Merge MERGI Awards. Congratulations to everyone who won a
MERGI Award this season. It's a very prestigious honor.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Now let's get to kind of the main part of
what this episode is. This is our draft recap. We're
gonna be going through the draft that we did at
the beginning of the season. So we drafted two episodes
into season forty eight, which means that Kevin and uh,
what's the other girl's name, Stephanieie that gummtt I would
(21:51):
have got that. Stephanie and Kevin were already gone when
we drafted. So let's just go through these one by
one in the order that they were drafted, and let's
just talk like, Hey, who made a great choice, who
made a big mistake? Big mistake? Do you remember who
got the first? Who got to pick very first? This year?
Speaker 2 (22:18):
It was it PD.
Speaker 1 (22:21):
Yeah, Okay, I don't know why that was like, so
I thought you were going to really just like hit it.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
Oh, no, I had to really think about it. Yeah,
it was PD and PD pick Camilla.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Yep, PD got the first overall draft pick and Camilla
went first.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Yeah, listen, I'll be the first to admit it. I
didn't get to pick at all. At the time. Camilla
had made such little.
Speaker 3 (22:45):
Impacts on my brain up to that point that when
he picked Camilla out of the gate I was having.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
A hard time even remembering who Camilla was at the time.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
I remember, if you go back and listen, me and
Jonathan go what we were so shocked that she was
the first overall pick. But I remember at the time
like I had her on my list because I was like,
she seems like the kind of player that we'll see
more of later on, Like right now, we're seeing a
lot of the people that are going to be going
(23:15):
home pre merge and and I mean, that is what
ended up happening. But I would have never thought that
she was going first overall pick.
Speaker 2 (23:23):
No, I didn't see it coming.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
But you know what, I'm a big man, and I
can admit when I'm wrong.
Speaker 2 (23:29):
It was a great, great pick Camilla, great pick basically
won the season.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
I understand Kyle won the season, but that like if
that that.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
That win is if Camilla.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
If Camilla would have won Fire, she would have won
the season.
Speaker 3 (23:48):
Like I I'd be interested to see how it plays
out those two kind of fighting against each other, you know,
cause the one thing like I'm still not totally sure,
like how liked Camilla was compared to how like Kyle
was and vice versa.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
You know, like I can I can clarify this because
what the jury said after the show was if Camilla
was in the final three, we would have all voted
for Camilla. Yeah, so we do.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
How how seriously to take that like the hindsight and
like what who I would have voted for if this
had happened, Like it's always hard to know, but.
Speaker 1 (24:29):
That seems I believe because because apparently she was really
tight with Shaheen as well Kyle Shaheen, she was friends
with Mary, like she she had a lot of friends
over on the jury. We just didn't see that part
one exactly. She's a bully, but she's great, She's a villain.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:50):
The second pick goes to the rights and they picked Joe.
Talk a little bit about this. I don't think anyone
was shocked about.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
No.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
This seemed like even early on, this was before the
moment happened on the beach with Eva and the whole
him coming together with her and that big moment that
at that time felt like Joe was at the top
of the top of the food chain there. Even before that,
(25:21):
it felt it was kind of like Joe's season to
lose almost from the get going.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
Part of that is the edit that he got.
Speaker 3 (25:28):
Kind of gave him big hero vibes, at least through
the last episode.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
I think the last episode things kind of fell apart
fro him a little bit, and there were a couple
of little hiccups.
Speaker 3 (25:41):
The moment with David where David and him had his
little thing about you know, you went back on an order, No,
I did that whole thing. And then the shahen moments
where you know, basically treats Shaheen like he's a child.
Those are little lips along away, obviously, and I think
that they cost him the game in a sense. But
(26:04):
throughout the season it was it felt very much like
Joe's season to lose, even going into that finale, even
going into the final tribal, it felt like his to lose,
and he just put up such a awful little such
like one of the worst I've seen. I can't remember
(26:24):
a tribal where I felt over fifty percent confident in
who I thought was gonna win, and by the end
of it, I thought he had a zero percent chance.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Like just an absolute whiff.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
And I can't even think of another final tribal that
went that way where it felt like literally watching someone
lose the win before our Now whether or not that's
the reality, you know, maybe some people were gonna vote
for Kyle regardless. I don't know, but that's what it
felt like based off of the edit that he got
and kind of how it felt like he was running
(26:57):
the game the whole season.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
I don't know if you disagree, No.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
No, I agree. What I will say about it is
when the Riots drafted Joe first for their team but
second overall, I immediately was just like, you've made a
fatal mistake that I've made several times, which is you
took the giant threat. But apparently this was the one
(27:20):
season where all of the giant threats got to stay
in the game. So it ended up working out, and
you know, they did better because Joe made it to
the final three. I didn't have a single person in
the final three, you know, so it worked out better
for them. But when it first happened, I was like,
that's a huge mistake, dude, the big strong guy never wins,
and he didn't, but he didn't make it to the
final three, which was crazy. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (27:42):
Then no, I was just gonna say, it was definitely
an interesting season of the Strong Personal Alliance and it'll
be interesting to see, Like we're really not gonna get
to see the effect that that has on the game
really until fifty one. Like forty nine hasn't seen a
fifties its own thing. Like they're gonna play a completely
(28:04):
different game based off of previous relationships and so many
other different things that we don't only get to see
the effect of one the Strong Strong People Alliance and
the Secret Alliance. I think both of those could have
an effect on future seasons, but we're not gonna get
to see it until fifty one.
Speaker 1 (28:22):
So and I think you're actually like one right because
I've been saying one hundred percent a lot this podcast. Well,
I'm really smart. You are. You are very smart. I
mean we agree on everything. It's not like I'm here
with Jonathan.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
Oh thank god, I'm diving in.
Speaker 1 (28:40):
But you're like, I bet we will get verbal confirmation
in fifty one where someone goes, we gotta be like
Joe and the Strong Guy's alliance, Like I feel like
someone's gonna say that out loud, and it's gonna be
really cool how the game evolves. You know. The next
person that got to vote was you brand Yes and
(29:05):
your first pick, and I was so jealous. I got
so upset when I listened back to it. You can
hear me get verbally upset with you when you drafted it.
You drafted Shaheen first.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
Listen, Man, I still think that this was the right pick. Like,
I agree, Shaheen is a pretty perfect Survivor player.
Speaker 1 (29:29):
He's I thought he was the winner, dude.
Speaker 3 (29:31):
He's strong, he's smart, he's great socially, and it just
felt like this is a slam dunk, if ever there
was a slam dunkin Survivor.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Dude. When I had him the top of my list,
I was going to take him first as well. I
thought he was the winner, dude. And I thought he
was the winner well past the merge, Like it wasn't
until everything started to happen with Kyle and Camilla, where
I was like, Shaheen is the obvious winner this game.
I thought that you won the draft, dude, I first
(30:04):
at bat, this is your first season drafting with us,
your very first pick of the draft. I thought you
won the season right there. I was so jealous.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
I think I'd still make this pick.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
You know, I I think ten out of ten drafts,
given the first two episodes that we saw, and you
know all the pre drafts media that we took in.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
I'm picking.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
I'm picking Shaheen.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
I like I would have picked him first, not just first,
not just first for my team, but if I had
the first overall pick, I would have picked sha Heen.
So I know, I think on a on a different season,
who knows how it plays out for Shaquen, but he's
a great survivor player, and I really liked the pick.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
So I wouldn't take it. I wouldn't. I wouldn't do
anything differently there.
Speaker 1 (30:49):
Yeah, so far, all of these picks, all of these
first round picks, I don't think anyone made a big mistake.
And then we get to my team.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
I go to draft.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
I always notoriously draft last it's happened every single time.
Speaker 2 (31:04):
Very impressive.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
It sucks, man, it really sucks because I do the
same thing every season, and it's my biggest flaw. I
have to pick last. Everyone who I wanted to pick
has been taken in the first round. I panic, and
because it's a snake draft and I get to pick
back to back, I panic and I just pick two
(31:26):
people at random, and it never works out. Previously I
pan like, so I'll give an example. I wanted Shaheen bad.
I wanted Shahen bad. I wanted Camilla bad. Those were
my two top picks then I had. Then I had
some other picks that I were like, well, I would
(31:46):
pick these people if I have to, right, Like in
my back of my head, I was like, Mary would
be a great first round pick because I can play
up there. I'm I'm voting. I'm picking mother Mary. Like,
so o, Camilla is gone, shai Heene's gone. I'm panicking.
I have to pick twice in a row, right, and
(32:07):
my first pick just got took taken, got tooken, got tooken.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
That's took real good.
Speaker 1 (32:14):
And so I just panic and I go, I'm gonna
go with the meme pick. At that point because we
hadn't seen Mary play much. We had just seen her
be very, very funny. She was on the losing tribe.
They were going home every week, and I just said,
for the memes, I'm taking Mary. I drafted Mary first round.
I don't regret it because I love Mary, but I
(32:37):
really really wish I would have taken I mean, Kyle
was on the table, Kyle was on the table, Kyle
was on the table. Eva was on the table. I
mean Mary made it far into the game, but Kyle.
I could have taken Kyle.
Speaker 3 (32:53):
Yeah, you could have pickn Kyle twice. Yeah, that's that's
the tough part. I wish I had my initial.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Draft order.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
I was keeping it updated as people were being taken,
I was taking them off the board.
Speaker 2 (33:07):
I wouldn't forget.
Speaker 3 (33:08):
So I don't have the initial document unless I can
go back in time, which I might be able to.
Speaker 2 (33:15):
But yeah, that's tough. I when did when does Kyle
get tooken?
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Kyle gets taken in the second round by the rights.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Right, but I pick twice and then they picked Kyle
ye exactly?
Speaker 1 (33:30):
No, sorry no, So because it was snake it went,
I picked Mary. Then I picked Thomas as we're about
to get into. Then it went back to you, oh right,
and then it went to the rights, so Kyle was
on the board for you as well. And we'll talk
about that when we get to that pick. But I
mean I I got to pick two picks in a row,
(33:53):
and I did not take Kyle for either of those.
I took Mary first, and then let's just jump into
the second one. Then I had my next choice, and
I took Thomas, which proved to be a fatal, fatal
mistake for my team.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Yeah, that's tough.
Speaker 3 (34:10):
That's one of those picks though, man, Like, that's uh you.
I couldn't have predicted Thomas going home at that point
in time.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
Thomas is a post merge player.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
He is. I thought, I really thought if I was
gonna pick out of everyone left, I was like, Thomas
is the winner out of everyone left. I would have
never thought Kyle was winning over Thomas.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:33):
Interesting, sheesh. So, uh, after I took Thomas, were we're
deep in the second round, now you got to go
and you took Say, which I will admit I thought
was a really dumb move on your part.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Yes, So what happened here is I pivoted.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Okay when the murder.
Speaker 3 (34:54):
When when the draft came along, I decided I was
gonna rock with the cameo pricing, and I went in
order of cameo pricing, Shaheen with the forty eight and
then Say with the forty and neither of those proved
to work out in your favorite No, they did not. No,
(35:17):
you know, I don't think that there's a world where
Say wins this season.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
I don't think so either. But I think where the
reason I thought that you made a huge mistake is
because the original Vula tribe they were getting picked off
one by one, Yeah, and the only ones left were Mary,
Cedric Pizza, and Say. And I was like, you do
not want to pick too many people on that Green tribe.
And then you proceeded to pick two people tribe.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
You know, I think with this would Say I overestimated
her redemption arc. I thought that the relationship between Mary
and Say they were going to begin to work together,
there was gonna be some redemption there. They were going
to kind of decide that we're stronger together than.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
We are apart.
Speaker 3 (36:13):
And we almost get that, right, yes, like we almost
get that. You know, Mary plays her shot in the dark,
Cedric votes for Say twice, decides I'm going to keep
her vote out Pizza as long as you two cut it, right,
you remember to cut it. Oh, And at the end
(36:34):
of that episode, I'm flying high, like, yes, I lost Pizza,
but I knew I was going to lose one of
those people regardless, right right, And so to me, I
get Say, who I kind of felt like was a
stronger competitor, and.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
She's sticking around because she's agreen to cut it.
Speaker 1 (36:54):
She's a green So you Takedrick Withedric Cedric saying Mary
were going to be a threat, like a trio going.
Speaker 3 (37:03):
I haven't said anything about Cedric. I don't put words
in my mouth that I thought. Mary and Say we're
going to agree to cut it and partner together, decided
they're going to take on the game.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Well we ended up getting after.
Speaker 3 (37:17):
That was we get a tribe swap right, Yes and Say.
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Was never the same. No, I don't know what happened.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
It's as if Mary was says Muse, and she just
didn't know how to play the game without It's.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Like Batman and Joker. Dude, yeah, it's not fun without
Batman's Joker doesn't want to do it without that.
Speaker 3 (37:40):
I remember distinctly, like the whole that the episode post
tribal swap, Mary decides she's not going to compete in
a challenge because she's just tired or whatever, and and
I like, say, yes, say sorry, did I say, Mary?
Speaker 1 (37:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Yeah, say is not going to compete because she's tired.
And I'm like trying to rationalize. I'm like, you know,
everybody at some point in Survivor goes through this low
point and you will come out.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
And where she's She's in her low point very clearly,
and she just never got out of it. Man, she
never got out.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
She couldn't get out of that valley. And that's okay,
it happens. I say, is one of those that I
would have liked to see come back and play in
the future, because I would like to see her go
up against some other like actually wanting to cut throat
Survivor players.
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
So after brand takes say, then it goes to the
rights and the Rights take the winner of season forty eight, Kyle.
Speaker 2 (38:39):
Doing it right back stings.
Speaker 1 (38:42):
The Rights took Joe and Kyle one and two. It
is like they knew you listened back to the episode.
Speaker 2 (38:50):
Yeah, do I even flirt with the idea of taking Kyle.
Speaker 1 (38:54):
No, No one did. No one did. Now, when when
they say Kyle, we get a few, I's gonna be like, oh,
that's a good pick. That's a good pick. But dude,
I did not think he was gonna make it that far.
They Kristin in particular, not to I'm not trying to
clown Jonathan. Wow. Kristin is really good at drafting players,
(39:16):
like she is every even if she doesn't win the season,
which there's only been one time that she hasn't won
the season other than no, no two times, two times
she has won the season. The fact that any other season,
picking the two strongest guys out there, the two big
(39:36):
muscle bros that would not have worked out, both of
them make it to the final three.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Yeah, you know, I think because I had Kyle in
my preseason breakdown, right, and I think I I think
I got scared. I think Kyle scared me with some.
Speaker 2 (39:57):
Of the things he talked about, specifically the quote.
Speaker 3 (40:00):
That he says that he's an impulsive player, which he
thinks may work against him. I think seeing that and
seeing this whole thing, like this quote about if I
win it's gonna be a dominant game. I run these
scenarios in my head. I don't know if I can
hide in a lot of ways. I have to come
out and I have to play hard. And then I
see that he's impulsive, and I think, like, I just
(40:23):
don't think that he's gonna win. And so I think, maybe,
you know, this is the first time we've done the preseason,
maybe it scared me. Maybe I was scared of some
of these things about Kyle, And ultimately these are the
things that kind of.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
Helped him, help him.
Speaker 3 (40:37):
He like he partnered with Camilla, and like a lot
of the decisions that he was making were impulsive.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Like these like, hey, we can't make a move.
Speaker 3 (40:47):
It's almost like this impulsive desire to like not turn
on his buddies.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
You know. It's like this, like very interesting.
Speaker 3 (40:57):
Like I think I got scared of Kyle, of my
own analysis of Kyle, and that makes sense.
Speaker 1 (41:03):
And if I remember correctly, I don't remember what it was,
but in week two, in the second episode, I think
he did something that turned everyone off on seeing him
as a winner. I don't remember what it was, but
I remember at one point being like, oh, I would
I would draft Kyle, and then he does something and
set in the second week where I was like, oh,
(41:23):
maybe I don't draft Kyle, but I don't remember what
it was.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
I mean, ultimately, I just kind.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
Of felt better about Shaheen, I felt better about Thomas.
I felt better about some of these other guys than
I did Kyle for whatever reason. And so you know,
clearly I'm wrong and I have to live with that
for the rest of my life.
Speaker 1 (41:44):
Hey, he was on the table, dude, he was on
the table for me two in a row. I could
have picked him to row. That's why Jeff Probe say
this is the greatest social experiment of all time. You
never know what's gonna happen on Survivor, and you really don't.
You can think you know, you don't. Next up, PD
(42:04):
takes Eva. Now PD, he has done this before, and
he's doing this strategy again. He does an all female draft.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
Listen, it's not a bad philosophy, especially kind of if
you look at the last few seasons.
Speaker 2 (42:23):
Not a bad tho.
Speaker 1 (42:24):
Well, this is where I love this statistic. The past
three or four winners have been women. If a woman
won this season as well, if Camilla would have won instead,
of Kyle. Let's say or Eva would have won instead
of Kyle, this would have been the most female winners
in a row in Survivor history. It would have been
an anomaly, right, And I think that shows how the
(42:48):
game has changed. But then in the season where all
of the big muscle bros controlled the game for the
first time, and I don't know, five, six, seven years
and it's the first season in a long time where
a woman doesn't win, it's always a smart pick to
do an all women team, I think, yeah, because because
at the end of the day, you're going to get
(43:11):
at the beginning of a Survivor season, you're gonna get
these big, in your face men, and they're getting a
lot of screen time, and they're doing challenges, right, and
you kind of want to take them because that's all
you're seeing in the first couple of weeks. But in
the background, there is a a woman player, or maybe
even just a not as in your face man player
(43:35):
who will get to see a lot of later, Like Camilla,
we'll get to see her a lot later, but we're
just not seeing her right now.
Speaker 3 (43:41):
Right, Yeah, And to that point, like it's it's just
it's you have these yeah, like Camilla is a perfect example,
like able to kind of play the game controlled in
a sense and then strike when she.
Speaker 2 (43:55):
Needs to, like.
Speaker 1 (43:58):
Your cerebral player. Yeah yeah, so uh PD taking Eva
in the second round. He took Camilla first round, Eva
second round. I thought this was a dumb move. I
thought it was a really dumb move because I think
Eva has the backstory. It was just like Mitch. I
didn't think Mitch was a good pick either when and
we'll get to that in a minute, because they have
(44:20):
the the not a sob story, but they have the
story arc of the season. Eva is overcoming her panic
attacks on the island because of her autism. That player
never wins. They usually become some sort of fan favorite
or like someone that the audience gets behind. They never win.
So Eva, I thought it was a wild pick, all right,
(44:43):
But then because of the snake, Eva gets to or
pet gets to pick twice in a row. So right
after he takes Eva, he takes Bianca.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
Who Bianca? Yeah, I know it's a bold move.
Speaker 1 (45:00):
Bianca not a great looking at PD's team at like this.
He really didn't do a great draft this season. I
don't think Camilla was an awesome player. It was his
best player on his team for sure. Even made it
to the final three, that is something. But I don't
think she ever had a chance of winning. And Bianca
(45:22):
went home almost immediately after. Yeah, he drafted her.
Speaker 3 (45:26):
Yeah it's not I'm not saying it's his fault, but yeah.
Speaker 1 (45:31):
Not a PD is a very usually a very strong drafter.
This season, I don't know. I don't know if it
was so weird.
Speaker 2 (45:37):
It was a weird season for sure.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
All right, then it goes to the rights and they
take Charity.
Speaker 2 (45:48):
Yep, it happened.
Speaker 1 (45:51):
No, I don't have much to say about that. I
think I think we all knew at this point the
people that we were drafting were not our top pick
to win. But Charity I thought was a strong pick
at the time. She was a strong player. She had
that kind of aggressive personality that you know can help
you go really far and survivor like a like a
(46:13):
Kinsey when Kinsey won a few seasons ago. The first
few episodes, I didn't think Kensey was gonna make it
far because she was playing too hard and it was
getting her in trouble with her tribe. But then you know,
she turned around and won the season. And I thought
that Charity was a Kinsey archetype, but she.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Just stopped that Charity. She never stopped yeap, much like Chris.
Speaker 1 (46:37):
Chrissy wake up.
Speaker 2 (46:39):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (46:39):
Then brand you got to pick your third your third
round pick, and you had the choice between You had
the choice of taking Justin, Who's Pizza, Mitch, star Cedric
or David, And you chose Pizza, another player from the
(47:01):
original Vula who were getting picked off week by week.
Speaker 2 (47:05):
It's not a good pick. It's not a good pick.
Speaker 3 (47:08):
My thought process here was I wasn't very high on
Mitch at the time. I liked Mitch, but he was
so likable that I figured he was going to get
taken out.
Speaker 2 (47:22):
David I just thought was so dumb that he wouldn't
make it very far.
Speaker 1 (47:27):
Yeah, which you were wrong, but not totally wrong.
Speaker 3 (47:31):
I think of everyone on there at the time, I
was like, Pizza to me, is the one that is
kind of the biggest, Like could be a wild.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
Card type play pick.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
Yeah, and so, and I figured if I have everybody
on that team, someone's going to survive, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (47:52):
And honestly, like I liked your I liked your Pizza
pick better than your say pick, I thought that Pizza
had the like said, had the potentially be a wild
card that ends up making it really far in the
game somehow.
Speaker 3 (48:04):
Listen, sometimes you vote for say twice and Pizza goes home,
and you know, and that's just the way things sometimes.
Speaker 1 (48:12):
But uh yeah, I mean, and we can talk about
your draft as a whole in a minute, but you
were the first person to lose every player on your
team this season.
Speaker 2 (48:22):
I know, I'm still.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
Statistically you had the worst draft. However, if you listened
to back to our draft episode, at the end of
the episode, I start going off about how I think
brand has the best team out of everyone. You're so kind,
so I also I was on the same pages. Yeah,
(48:46):
I was on the same page as I thought you
had a really good deed, and I felt.
Speaker 3 (48:50):
Really good about Shaheen too, Like any team I think
was gonna look really good with Shaheen on.
Speaker 1 (48:54):
It, I agree. It was like PD's team PS team
really wasn't anything great, but he had come so it
immediately made his team look way better. After you took
Date Justin. Then it goes to me again, I didn't
have many options left and I took Chrissy.
Speaker 2 (49:15):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (49:16):
I thought she was like, she was the older woman archetype.
I thought maybe she could make it pretty far. At
that point, she was barely we had never we hadn't
heard her speak. Yeah, that's where the chrissy is speaking.
Speaker 2 (49:28):
King.
Speaker 3 (49:28):
Yeah, anytime she said a word, it was like such as.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
And then very shortly after they started letting her speak,
she spoke too much and it sent her home. And
that was just you know, that's just how the cards lay.
Speaker 3 (49:42):
Dude, don't like if you If you, the moral of
the story is, if you see the big Bro club forming,
don't try to speak out against it twice in a row. Yes,
do it once, see if anybody is following with you,
and then be like, you know what, let me see
if there's another way to get one.
Speaker 1 (50:00):
Cut the bait and just try to try to float.
At that point, due to the snake draft, I got
to pick twice in a row again. I had the
opportunity to take either Mitch or Star or Cedric or David,
and I chose Mitch. He made it really far.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
He was your last player around, right, yeah.
Speaker 1 (50:22):
I mean yeah, he made it further than Mary, right
yeah yeah, So I mean it wasn't a terrible pick.
He was my last pick. I didn't really want to
pick him. I didn't think he had a chance to winning.
He made it really far. He ended up being the
reason that the season suffered towards the end. And you know,
the game could have been very different. If he stepped
up and made a move, he could have won. Maybe
you know, you gotta make a move. But so yeah,
(50:44):
my Mitch pick, I.
Speaker 2 (50:45):
Guess one move is all you needed to make this
season in order to win.
Speaker 1 (50:48):
That's all you needed was one move, one and helped
from help from one good ally. So yeah, I don't
know if I regret my Mitch pick, because at the
end of the day, he made it farther than any
of my other plays. But you know, oh, well, goes.
Speaker 2 (51:04):
Back to.
Speaker 1 (51:06):
Brand. You got to pick your fourth player, and you
chose David. Yes, out of the options that were left,
which was Starr and Cedric. I think David was a
good choice.
Speaker 2 (51:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
I picked David because he was the only one of
those three that had a cameo and I wasn't high.
I thought there's no way in the world Cedric's gonna
win this game. And at that point in time, Star
was then like Star at all and so David was
the pick for me.
Speaker 1 (51:38):
Yeah, I think you made a great quote. That's the
thing that's so crazy about doing these draft recapped episodes
is at the time you had made probably the smartest
decisions out of anyone, except for the fact that you
took two people from original VULA. You made really really
great decisions. But looking back at it, you had the
(51:58):
worst team. And that's so interesting to me. After you
took David.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
Learning experience, you know, we'll we'll take it back to
the tape and we'll kind of see where things get
wrong for me and where the kind of wheels fell off.
But you know, I'll go in the next season. I'll
it'll be bigger and better than ever.
Speaker 1 (52:15):
Hey man, you got you did. You did pretty good
for your first season. Next season you get another another
practice before the big one season. I can't be worse.
I can't be worse.
Speaker 2 (52:25):
You know that's true.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
I mean you could. You could lose all four in
a row immediately.
Speaker 3 (52:30):
Okay, thank you, Yes, yes, and that would be hilarious.
Speaker 1 (52:34):
I would love that.
Speaker 2 (52:36):
But listened, last place is the last place, you know.
Speaker 1 (52:39):
Yeah, that's true. After you took David, the rights got
to pick. They had the choice between Star and Cedric,
and it baffled all of us that they took Cedric
over Starr. Yeah, wild pick, and it didn't work out
for him. Cedric was gone way before.
Speaker 3 (52:55):
It's so crazy as going into this season, all me,
you and PD were like.
Speaker 2 (53:01):
We're picking Greenville first, Baby come Hell or.
Speaker 1 (53:04):
Greenville, And then we saw the first two episodes and
we were like, we're not picking him for anything.
Speaker 2 (53:11):
You can't make us pick him.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
So really, two episodes is all it took for us
to turn on our own.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (53:18):
Yeah, and she was awesome. She ended up being a
huge fan favorite, and which is why PD was very
happy that he got to for his last pick. He
got to pick Star. Yeah, he didn't have a choice,
it was all that was left. But he could not
believe that he was fortunate enough to get Star over
Cedric because he really thought that Cedric was gonna be
(53:39):
the very last pick we all did, but the rights
took Cedric instead of Star, so PD. So I'm just
gonna go through each team, the total team in full,
and we can just kind of look and see who
had the best team overall. My full team was Mary, Thomas, Chrissy,
and Mitch I think I probably had the worst players
(54:01):
on my team, if that makes sense. I think that
Mary Mary was the best player by far, and she
still couldn't quite it. Just it wasn't the season for that,
you know. Ye, sadly PD's team Camilla, Eva, Bianca and
Star the all female team. What do you think about that?
(54:23):
That tribe.
Speaker 2 (54:24):
It's not a bad tribe.
Speaker 3 (54:26):
I think Camilla kind of skews the curve there a little.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Bit, yes, but not a bad draft, I don't think.
Speaker 1 (54:36):
I think if instead of Bianca he had someone like
a Mitch or a Shaheen who made it really far,
I think he would have had a phenomenal Yeah, Bianca's kind.
Speaker 3 (54:51):
Of the odd man out there or odd woman out.
Speaker 1 (54:55):
Yeah. The Rights team they had Joe Kyle, Charity set,
I mean, come on, they had two out of the
three final three.
Speaker 3 (55:05):
Obviously, Cedric kind of throws a curveball there, but I
think it's hard to argue that that's not the best team.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
Charity at the.
Speaker 1 (55:13):
Time especially was a strong choice. I think that they
made a great choice, so, I mean they had they
showed a lot of great insight by picking Kyle when
everyone else was kind of like, really Kyle, and so
I mean they deserve to win, you know, for sure
they deserved it. And then yeah, and then Brand's team
(55:34):
was Shaheen, Say, Justin, and David hilarious enough, David and
Shaheen were your too strongest, yeah players on your team.
Speaker 2 (55:44):
Yeah, and I don't disagree.
Speaker 3 (55:45):
I think if I, obviously, if I don't pick Say
and I picked Kyle, this is a different ballgame, obviously.
Speaker 1 (55:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
But Say's kind of the pick there that just doesn't
quite It doesn't make.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
It a a really as well rounded of a team as.
Speaker 1 (56:03):
And Justin who went home so early. Yeah, that's just hard.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
But I can't even get mad at the Justin pick.
I can't get mad.
Speaker 1 (56:10):
At because that was an all time Survivor moment that
had never really happened right that way before. It was insane. So,
I mean, you have a very memorable team, I'll give
you that.
Speaker 2 (56:21):
Yeah, I'm trying to like, I'm just like, I can't
believe in that pick. Kyle.
Speaker 1 (56:25):
Me too, man, I had Mary and Thomas as my
first two picks, and I could have picked Kyle for
in either of that spot and it would have been.
Speaker 3 (56:34):
Sometimes he tried to get cute with it, you know,
and just like just pick, just pick the best player
on the board, you know.
Speaker 1 (56:39):
Yeah, and I thought I thought that Thomas was that
what's crazy? So guys, looking back at our draft from
after the season, it definitely hindsight is twenty twenty. But
it is very interesting to look at how wrong me
and Bran in particular were. But let's hear from the
guy who had a great team but he did not
(57:02):
win this season.
Speaker 2 (57:05):
That's right, PD, go ahead. I didn't mean I was.
Speaker 1 (57:09):
Just cueuing you up. PD sent us a voice memo,
let's hear it.
Speaker 5 (57:13):
Hello, Brand, Chase, and maybe Jonathan. Nope, knock knock, not
me the classic anyway.
Speaker 4 (57:22):
Just wanted to get on here and say Camilla is
definitely one of the greatest players I've ever drafted.
Speaker 5 (57:27):
It's why it took her first.
Speaker 4 (57:28):
I had a good feeling it turned out to be right,
even though Brand had her pretty low on his board. Yeah,
she's a great player. And we've teased naming our teams.
I think I should name my team that should have won,
because Camilla should have won. If she had made the fire,
she would have won. Charlie, he should have won. Maria
was bitter and then in season forty seven. We all
(57:50):
know seuss May should have won. She would have beat
all their asses. She said it, and it should have happened.
The jury just didn't know what was going on that season.
Speaker 5 (57:59):
Okay.
Speaker 4 (58:00):
The other thing I want to talk about is that
I in the last episode said that D was an
outspoken Puerto Rican woman. I was corrected on this one
of our little mergies, Carly.
Speaker 5 (58:13):
She let me know D is in fact Cuban.
Speaker 1 (58:16):
Oh you see what he was.
Speaker 4 (58:21):
At one point I had seen a picture of D
at jam Jams Hair salon in Puerto Rico, and she like,
I think the caption was just a picture of a
Puerto Rican flag, and then I took that.
Speaker 5 (58:33):
I took that to mean that they were both from
Puerto Rico.
Speaker 4 (58:37):
And see, this is a good lesson about not making assumptions.
Speaker 1 (58:42):
I want to.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
Apologize to D.
Speaker 4 (58:44):
And I hope that my praise for D over the
past few seasons, and like the couple of seasons we've
done this podcast, I praise D constantly.
Speaker 5 (58:53):
I hope that makes up for it.
Speaker 4 (58:55):
You know, I understand that simple minded Jabroni's like Chase,
they don't really comprehend the game that D played. It
kind of like, I think, kind of flew over Chase's
head a little bit, and that's why he doesn't understand
why she was such a great.
Speaker 5 (59:09):
Winner and everything. But yeah, have fun with the rest
of the podcast.
Speaker 1 (59:12):
PD out Okay, not me, good job. PD texted me.
He was like, hey, Hope, I don't make you go
on a rant after my voice memo.
Speaker 2 (59:26):
Dude, don't fall for it, Chase, Dude, d PD.
Speaker 1 (59:31):
I think truly believes that d is a really awesome winner.
And I'm not taking away the fact that she deserved
to win her season. She did. She deserved to win
that season. She's not the most dominant way, like when
he said that she's better than Boston.
Speaker 2 (59:46):
Rocha, you're falling for it. Don't fall for it. Is
only only PD.
Speaker 3 (59:53):
Can come out and admit that he's a racist and
Chase ends up going on a rant. Don't fall for it.
Let PD just sit in his racism and like, just
let that happen.
Speaker 1 (01:00:04):
Let that you're my counselor you're my counselor I'm gonna
listen to you. I'm just gonna say one thing. I'm
just gonna say one thing. D's win is very similar
to if Joe won this season, that's all I'll say.
That's all I'll say. People would have been upset. They
would have thought it was boring, they wouldn't think it
(01:00:25):
was that dominant winner. That's almost say it's almost it's
almost a saying okay.
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
All right, fair enough, fair enough. I want to close
with this.
Speaker 3 (01:00:34):
Okay, some I don't know if you saw this, but
Jeffrey posted a video after I think it was the
first or second day of filming fifty, and he talks
about how he's excited about it and blah blah blah.
You've seen a jeff video before, you know how it is.
I understand we still got forty nine to worry about here,
(01:00:56):
but what are you what could really make fifty?
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
What needs to happen early on in fifty for it
to live up to the hype.
Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
I think we need to see like big moves immediately.
I know we're gonna get what we always kind of
get in that first episode, and that's cool with me.
I'm not gonna complain. I think if this is gonna
be a legendary season, we need to see somebody like
(01:01:31):
winning a shot in the dark. Episode one, first tribal
playing an idol. Immediately something crazy. There's something crazy, and
because that's the thing about what makes a good Survivor season.
It's not necessarily about like everybody playing super good strategically,
because Joe and Eva and Kyle and then played an
amazing strategic game, but it bored the audience a lot.
(01:01:55):
It's about excitement. That's what makes a good season. And
so I think we want to see people making big
moves right off the bat. I want to see old
returning players interacting with New Era players. I want to
see Joe and his honor and integrity go up against
someone who is willing to slit throats to win this game,
like I want to. That's what I want to see.
Speaker 3 (01:02:16):
You know, I'm thinking about this a lot as I'm
watching through the seasons, and I think, what would make
Season fifty really pop, And that's in the premiere, is
if unlike New Era starting off with let's all walk
onto the beach, do a little interview, talk about who
(01:02:36):
we are, and then go into an obstacle course, what
if we kick at old school and we do a marooning,
we do a good old fashioned get off of a boat.
Part of the challenges seeing who can get to their
first to get to the best camp site or whatever.
(01:02:57):
Something to make it feel like, once again, this is
a celebration of fifty seasons. Let's let's do a little
something different.
Speaker 2 (01:03:08):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:03:08):
I I'm not this like old era apologist by any means, right, right, right,
but I do think if we start fifty and it
feels exactly like forty nine, you know, and I'll take
I agree, I want it to feel at least like
a little nod to the old school, a little.
Speaker 2 (01:03:26):
Something different to make it feel like, you know what,
these this this show, We're.
Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
Gonna do a lot of different things here. That's gonna
be a lot of kind of try to take in
a lot of the influence from a lot of different seasons.
We cannot just start with an obstacle, course, we gotta
we gotta do something that makes it really really pop
and separate itself at least from the previous nine seasons.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
One.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
Yeah, I agree with you, dude, I agree with you.
I I'm really rooting it for it to be two
tribes instead of three Old Era versus New Era. That's
kind of what I would really like to see. But
also if it is three tribes, maybe we see a
thing where they pick try they pick their own tribes
like how they've done before. I love that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
No, I really like.
Speaker 3 (01:04:12):
The starting start, like the the idea of starting as
two tribes and then it splits into three with a
school yard pick.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
I really like that. I think it gives you this
old air and new era.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
We get one episode to see how those two kind
of compete against each other and then make them drop
your gup, drop your gufs, drop your buffs.
Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
This is the new new game. Schooard schooyard, pick them.
I like that a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
Yeah, and even because I understand a lot of the
repetition of the New Era is due to, hey, we
don't have as big of a budget, but with season
fifth its season fifty and you don't even have to
it's not even the repetition, Like, I'm cool if it's
the same kind of like the obstacles, we go from
three tribes to two tribes with a swap, Like, I'm
(01:04:57):
fine with all of that. Just row in some crazy stuff,
make it a little exciting.
Speaker 2 (01:05:04):
I think that's that's the thing.
Speaker 3 (01:05:05):
Like I like, I like New Era Survivor. There is
something too. As I'm watching through the show era, like
there's just like a question like you never.
Speaker 1 (01:05:18):
Quite know what's gonna happen.
Speaker 2 (01:05:20):
You never quite know when the merge is gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:05:22):
You never quite know if they're going to do a
merge swap if one tribe gets too uh too low
in players, like you never quite know, And Jeff loves
to say on the on Fire podcast, Uh, you know,
what we've done in the past is not necessarily an
indication of what we're gonna do, Like.
Speaker 2 (01:05:45):
Okay, prove it, let's let's yeah, let's see it.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
Let's do something new, or let's do something that we
haven't done in a long time, or something like that
to make it feel like, oh.
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
This is a different this is something special.
Speaker 1 (01:05:58):
Yeah, just just something you need. I think you're absolutely okay.
Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
Is that it for this episode?
Speaker 1 (01:06:04):
That's it, dude. I don't think they're gonna disappoint us.
I'm gonna go on record, it's gonna be the best
season ever.
Speaker 3 (01:06:09):
Dude, best season ever. We're gonna be back later this
week with another episode.
Speaker 2 (01:06:14):
It's gonna be a special episode.
Speaker 1 (01:06:16):
Oh yeah, we're not allowed to say, we're not allowed
to say what it is yet. But there's a guest
that's all I say.
Speaker 2 (01:06:23):
It's Chase's cousin, who cause.
Speaker 1 (01:06:28):
Oh man. Thank you guys so much for listening. It's
making the merge go. We review us over on Apple Podcasts, Spotify,
wherever you listening to the podcast makes your phone us
on Instagram, TikTok keeping up with all the clips. We'll
see you guys at the merge.
Speaker 2 (01:06:46):
You're about to hear some ads that helped keep the
lights on here in the old studio. Thanks for listening
or don't listen. It's really up to you.
Speaker 1 (01:06:56):
At this point is at the end of the show.
Speaker 2 (01:06:58):
I mean, you're listening to me Hi.
Speaker 1 (01:07:00):
But here they come.
Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
I promised they're come. Yep, here they are. Happy Day.
