Some brands grab attention — but the best ones leave a lasting impact. What makes the difference? It’s not just strategy or design…it’s emotion. In this episode of Making Varsity, I sit down with Brie Shouppe, VP of Marketing at Envera Systems, to break down the psychology of storytelling and why brands that connect emotionally win every time.
We dive into the science behind why people buy, how brand messaging shapes trust, and the role of emotion in driving customer behavior. Brie also shares how her experience working with authors and book launches has sharpened her storytelling skills for brands — and how you can apply the same techniques in your business.
Plus, we’ll talk about why copywriting is not dead (even in the age of AI), how small business owners can leverage storytelling without getting lost in complexity, and what makes a brand truly unforgettable.
Bottom line: Funnels and tactics are helpful, but feelings build loyalty.
ABOUT BRIE:
After earning her degree from the University of Florida, Brie embarked on her career as an associate producer in one of the largest local news markets on television. Eager to broaden her horizons, she transitioned into a marketing and business development role at a leading privately held security and technology company in the United States.
In 2022, Brie took a bold step away from the corporate world to pursue her passion as a freelance and contract ghostwriter, editor, content creator, and marketing strategist. During this time, she launched her first podcast, which aims to amplify author voices and connect readers with the writers behind their favorite stories.
By early 2023, Brie joined The Kraft Co, a boutique marketing and communications firm, where she continues to play a crucial role. Recently, she returned to Envera as their VP of Marketing, where she oversees marketing, business development, and sales enablement initiatives.
In every project she undertakes, Brie is committed to uncovering and sharing the stories behind each brand, ensuring they resonate with their intended audiences.
