Back to the show.
We're super excited to have youhere And I think this one's
going to be short.
We always say that, and it'snot short, but short and sweet.

(00:38):
This one's more of anexperiment And I'm so excited
because I tried it out and alsoI want you to try it in the next
happy hour.
We can talk about it.
Okay, yeah, but it is sopowerful.
You and I brainstormed this atthe beach as a future episode
And so I was.
I really came back and we'vehad a few weeks in between and

(01:00):
recordings and just absorbed init and got so inspired, yes.
And then some synchronicitieshappened along the way that kept
it going.
Love, are you ready?
Yes, so excited.
So this episode is about thepower of play, right, and that's
something with the energy oflove that I want to really call
in this year and the feminineenergy, right.

(01:21):
This divine dreamer energy ofthe springtime and then going
into summer is really about thatplayful, fun energy really
lighthearted, not takingyourself too seriously, not just
being stuck in this grind.
Just play Yes, Right, Yeah, Andit sounds so simple and it

(01:42):
sounds fun.
But also let me just note foryou if this makes you
uncomfortable, you need it themost.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yes, it's so comprehensive to try.
Yes, probably need to jump in.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
And why you say that is because I was telling Kyle
about it and I could tell he waslike, oh, and I'm like, you
need this, we all need this.
We all need it Men, women, whatever.
You need this episode, you needthis experiment in your life.
So, going back to theintentions of the episode,
though, making sure we'retouching on that, this is to

(02:14):
inspire you to let go andconnect with the spirit of your
inner playful child And also tospark creativity and joy.
As I was stuck in my winterseason and remember I said I
didn't have any creativity oranything.
It's like there's ways to kindof move creative energy and get
into flow and being playful is ahuge way to do that.
Dude, couldn't agree more, right, could not agree more.

(02:35):
It's the jam, yeah, okay.
So here we go.
This is going to be anexperiment and I'll kind of tell
you about my experience, but Iwant to give you the vibes And
we touched on it a little bit in, i think, being her episode in
the playful energy.
We touched on it there as well.
First, i wanna say, as we talkin this episode about your inner

(02:56):
child, we're not talking aboutyour wounded inner child, okay,
so I'm gonna say inner child alot, but don't go back to your
wounded inner child.
This is your playful innerchild, and if you cannot connect
with that child because you hada traumatic childhood, which we
have some of that going on here.
You can connect with the energyof a child in your life.
Now that inspires you like mineis my niece, what we call her Z

(03:19):
, my niece Z.
Or if you know a child maybethey're not related to you you
know of a child or a child alongyour journey in childhood.
So again, if you're supertriggered with your childhood
and you can't get yourself intothat playful energy because of
what you experienced.
Let's have an archetype thatyou're leaning into.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
And we'll talk about that For sure, for sure, for
sure.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
So that's number one, not your wounded inner child.
Okay, yes, you're playful.
Yes, and Daniel, i was alreadyworking on this episode and I
was listening to that book Howto Be Loving Daniel LaPorte, and
she said something aboutbringing your inner child to
work day.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Remember the bring your child to work day, oh yeah,
and I was like that.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
I'm like that's what we should call the episode
actually.
Again, a synchronicity is I'mcreating content for the episode
.
I was like bring your innerchild to work day, i love that.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
That's what it is.
I love that.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
I always used to go to work with my dad and bring
your I mean it was exciting yourdaughter to work day.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yes, it was Patriarchy, but I fucking loved
it.
It was so fun.
It was such like a cool way tosee you know my dad in this
different light.
That's a yeah, that's a goodone, okay so that's number one.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
And let's see also another synchronicity that
happened to me yesterday Andagain I've crafted this thing
for probably the last threeweeks.
I was doing some work and Ilike to have like a movie on the
background And so I wasclicking around and 13, going on
, 30.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Love And I was like that is the vibe right, like
that's the vibe that we'retalking about here.
It's like how do you bring?

Speaker 1 (04:55):
when you say inner child, it doesn't have to be
your like toddler self.
It could be your teenage self, absolutely Right.
So I was like I'm going towatch this and absorb, because
there's a synchronicity here.
The universe wants me to seethis.
It has something to do with theepisode.
So I really just watched how itwas about her like being 13
years old in her mind and herbeliefs and all of that, and
then her body.
she's 30, right So how did sheshow up in the world?

(05:17):
It was so fascinating.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Well, and to really go back to, because I feel like
when you are that age you know Imean, for instance, i have a 15
year old daughter Andoftentimes you know she's like I
have to rely on mom and dad totake me places or whatever
you're always kind of strivingfor like I can't wait to have my
own car, i can buy whatever Iwant, i can do what I want.
I can go get coffee if I want orgo get a donut or whatever the

(05:42):
fuck is.
Is that your desire?
And that's what she does?
Yes, Like get back in theenergy of I can't wait to be an
adult because I feel like it'ssuch a tragedy.
Oftentimes we become adults andwe're like this blows, Like
it's a fucking bummer sometimesto be an adult And you forget.
You forget all the things thatyou're like oh, i know what I'm

(06:02):
going to do.
I'm going to have ice creambefore dinner.
Do it Because, as an adult, sometimes I'm like well, i
shouldn't have that much sugar, well, i had this last night, or
I had a cookie during the day,or some other bullshit.
Do that thing that you're like.
It's going to be so fun to bean adult.
Why?
What were the reasons that youthought it would be so fun and

(06:23):
do that?

Speaker 1 (06:23):
Yeah, i want to give you some prompts at the end,
based on watching 13 going on 30.
That's where it's like we'llkind of end it with that
reflection zone, like we like todo.
But really the experiment isyou're going to take a 24 a day,
right, you're gonna bring yourinner child to work day.
You're playful inner child andYou know it can.
It doesn't have to be a workday, it could be the weekend and

(06:45):
whatever, whatever your worklooks like.
But before you can get intothat playful zone, we got to
identify, like, what are thosetraits?
You really have to getintentional about how you're
gonna show up.
Right, because we're adults,we're conditioned to be adults,
absolutely.
So, again, watch that movie andit'll give you, it'll inspire
you a little bit, right?
Also, i love that movie, right,it's so cute.

(07:05):
Kyle Kemeny goes this movie'sstupid and I'm like, oh Dude, so
okay.
So what you want to do is firstof all reflect on That inner
child that you've identified, whether it was little, you
teenage, you, a Kid that youknow right.
So, yes, i looked at Z, right, because, again, some trauma, my

(07:26):
childhood, that kind ofdisconnected me from maybe
playful years, of course.
So when I'm around her, i'mObserving her and she's just so,
just such a little free spirit.
Yes, a little bit when you thinkabout a child's energy.
Right, they have that childlikecuriosity.
They're asking you questions.
They're not immediately judgingthings.

(07:47):
They're like, well, why is thatwork that way, and why is this
and what is that and how doesthat work?
Right?
Yes, so you really need to getinto that curious Yep, like
childlike curiosity.
Yes, see, and somebody at workis like pushing your buttons,
kind of be playful in the momentor whatever, or maybe You know
and you're with your partner, yeah, so childlike curiosity.

(08:08):
We're building the archetypehere, excited about the small
things.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Yeah was like I remember sortof being a kid and being like
Holy shit, trees are huge.
Yeah, they're so big andthey're so green, and like they
give us oxygen, and like beingjust baffled sort of, and so
Delighted by that idea, plusgrowing up in Oregon, right, but
that the, the small things thatyou're like whoa, i didn't know

(08:34):
.
You know that this and this, you know This, like it.
You know what I'm saying?

Speaker 1 (08:39):
Yes, I love that.
If you watch 13 going on 30,She spends most of her time in
that energy.
She's like you know.
Oh, you have arm hair Like justfascinated by, you know, all
these things.
Yeah, even on my drive homefrom work the other day, these
clouds, the clouds were justlike billowing, they were all
these crazy shapes.
I mean, i was, it wasMesmerizing, yeah, and it was
that.
it was like this appreciationfor just the small things.

(09:01):
Yes, how beautiful are theseclouds?
right, so excited about thesmall things, creative and
imaginative.
Remember your childhood.
You're always, you know,imagining.
I always played, teacher me, mysister played.
Like you know, we were grown upwomen.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
We had our purses in the cars and put on our heels.
You know, it's the imagination.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
Yeah, so be really creative and imaginative in this
day.
They also have a free spiritand a carefree energy, like
children who jump in puddles forsure, for sure, right, like as
an adult.
You're like, oh, my shoes arewet, it's like they're stomping
in them.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Well, no, i'm thinking about is like I'm gonna
have to clean them later Andyou know I gotta take care of
that.
I don't want to go and wet, getinto the car or get into the
house And it's good You don'tthink about that.
Yeah, i think like how much funwill it be?
I'm already wet, it's raining,there's puddles.
Like give me a break, just doit Yeah, i love that, yeah, so
playing the puddles.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Yeah, prioritize fun in this day.
Yeah, it's one day, folks, likeone day.
You can do this.
You're prioritizing fun.
Yes, what sounds fun?
do it?
do that.
Do that.
Absolutely.
Love that Enthusiasm to try newthings.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
I was sort of thinking about that while you're
talking going.
You know I feel like as a kid Iwould go, but why, like I
wasn't boxed in by theboundaries, by the you know
parameters that I am now Like Iremember being in school.
I had to have been young becausewe were like learning our
letters and writing our name, learning how to write your name,
and because my name is Nicoleand ends in an E, i remember

(10:28):
writing it and thinking like why, i wonder, why does this mean?
E?
Like why is it just?

Speaker 1 (10:34):
three lines Like why?

Speaker 2 (10:35):
And so I wrote a bunch of tiny lines in between
the three big lines, and Iremember thinking like I think
that looks cooler, like that'show I'm going to write my E's,
and my teacher came over andtotally like chastised me and
was like that's not right, that's not correct, and I
basically was like I'm nottrying to be correct, i'm trying
to be creative, like I likethis.
I mean, it was a privateCatholic school, so she was like

(10:56):
no, you don't erase it, Youknow.
but Nicole, little Nicole, waslike fuck that.
I think this is cool, Like I'mgoing to just do a bunch of
little.
it's such a weird vivid memory,but that's it.
It's like break the boundary.
You don't have to do it thesame way, you've always done it.
You don't have to drive thesame route every single time.
Take a fucking back road.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
Take the scenic route .

Speaker 2 (11:16):
Take the scenic route , stop and actually smell the
flowers.
You know what I'm saying?
Like I passed so many littlefarm stands and as a kid I'd be
like, can we go there?
Yeah, and I never stop, i don'tever stop.
Maybe that's what I'll do.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yes, listen to your inner child.
Your inner child wants to stopthere.

Speaker 2 (11:30):
Yes, exactly.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
Right, yeah, yeah.
So that's super fun Seekingadventure.
So on the same lines, right, they always want to go do
something exciting and you knowthey're sad when you're when,
first of all, when you're notlike paying attention, that
you're like sit on the couch andwatch a movie, you know what I
mean.
Like we're all guilty of itbecause we're so busy, of course
, but they want to go out andexplore and have an adventure

(11:52):
and it's so exciting.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Remember adventures when you were a kid, of course,
well and my God Really anytime, like if Matt and I go on like a
hike or like go take a littleday trip to like a river or
whatever.
Yeah, we don't even do it thatoften, but when we do we're both
like really energized by it.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
It's great Mm-hmm.
So bring that also.
Like I said, being present, ifyou notice with children like
they want your attention Z, theywant your coloring and you know
she had her colors out.
She's like color with me, colorwith me, and of course I'm
distracted And she's like you'renot coloring with me, you're
not paying attention.
Children will pull yourattention back in.
They want you in the presentmoment.
So, again, children are.

(12:29):
Even though they're imaginativeand creative, they are in what
they're doing.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
Yes, fully Yeah so be there.
Jacob used to take his handsand hold my cheeks.
And he would talk to me and wewould look right in each other's
eyes and he would tell meexactly what story or whatever,
he was trying to tell me, and weboth would only be focused on
each other, Yes it was like socute, okay, i'm not looking
anywhere else.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Yeah, cause he knows you're gonna turn your head.
Seriously, oh my gosh.
And then the last one isthere's so many more, you can
outline your own, but expressive.
When I talked to little Z,she's just like gosh, what
happened today?
And I think I already have alot of that ingrained in me.
Anyways, that's who I am.
I'm very expressive.
But like bringing that out don'ttry to be that sub dude version

(13:13):
of yourself when you're talkingto people.
Be expressive, be excited.
Yes, you know, absolutely.
You can build your ownarchetype based on the child you
know or who you were, and youreally gotta get clear on it.
So when I did my littleexperiment, i was like I gotta
try this out and I wanna do itagain, and I started my morning
with a meditation on it and Iend this clarity.

(13:33):
So the reason we need to beclear is cause you need to know,
you need to be aware, so youcan snap out of your shit during
the day, like if you're in thatmeeting or you're in that
conversation with that personand you can go.
Okay, this is me being likeadult me.
I'm gonna bring the child, soyou really.
It helps you prepare for yourday, cause you're gonna fall,
you're gonna have a moment, you're gonna fall back into it.

(13:54):
The goal is to spend the wholeday in this child like playful
energy.

Speaker 2 (13:59):
I dig it, don't fight it.

Speaker 1 (14:00):
Yeah, i dig it.
If this makes you uncomfortable, you need it the most, trust me
.
And if the whole day is hardfor you, try a half day.

Speaker 2 (14:07):
Yeah, try a couple hours, or try it on a day when
you know you can spend most ofyour time by yourself.
You can go, do all of thethings that you wanna do.
You don't have to explainyourself to anyone You do not.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
Yeah, so get in the energy, start your day, you know
, even though it's very adult todo a meditation.
That's what helped me, likegetting the energy.
You can imagine, the child youknow, whatever gets you in that
zone, and so on the way to workI was like, okay, i'm gonna go
back to like my teenage yearsand I'm gonna play early 90s
like hip hop, you know Yes yes,The whole way to work.

(14:38):
Instead of listening to mypodcast and stuff like that, I
was like I'm just gonna listento this music.
That's gonna take me back inthe energy.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
So I did that.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
And the night before I actually dyed my hair hot pink
.
The music helps set the tone.
I ensured that I like stuck inthat energy, no matter what I
was doing in that day.
There were a few times where Ifell out of practice And then,
as you get to the end of the day, you come back to your mom's
self.
Totally, i'm gonna do this, sothat's why I wanna do it again
and maybe our next happy hour wecan have a more discussion on

(15:07):
it.
You can try it too, absolutely, and if anybody else tries it,
please send us your stories Andthe reason.
This is important, because ithelps you raise your vibrations.
Like I said, it gets you inflow state So you can get out of
a creative slump And then youcan raise your vibes.
People will feel your energythat day.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
And I feel like it helps you remember what you
loved, helps you remember whatthat fun felt like.
Cause, sometimes I forget,sometimes I'm like oh man, i've
been just mundane, i know Yougotta have some fun shake it up.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Yes, and it also can help you reduce some stress, as
well Sure.
You're like really stressful inyour life, like you can just
let go a little bit.
Play and have fun.
It also opens up newpossibilities.
You never know where the day isgonna take you.

Speaker 2 (15:46):
I absolutely love that Right.

Speaker 1 (15:49):
So that is your day of play and bringing your inner
child to work day.
Set your intentions, createyour plan to shift, dress the
part, act the part.
Be aware of that archetype thatyou're like living up to, and
then pause in any moment whereyou get stuck.
And I would ask myself whatwould little Z do?
What would Z do here?

(16:09):
And just seeing her makes me go.
Oh okay, she would just be likeso excited about the world.
So that's the fun piece.
And then I wanna share somejournal prompts that were also
really powerful, based on seeingthat movie yesterday.

Speaker 2 (16:22):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Which was all.
I mean.
It's all synchronistic, right?
Yeah, i'm gonna implement thatshit If you go and watch that
movie, cause it'll relate tothese questions, but if not,
these will really help you alsoget into the energy.
What would your 13 year oldself think of your life now?
Yep, what would she think Ifyou watch that movie?
you see her go Like, when she's, when she's the 30 year old

(16:45):
self with a 13 year old brain, she's like I'm really mean yes.
She, she realizes how, what ahorrible person she's become as
an adult and she's like I am.
I mean, i'm terrible.
What would she think?
you're be honest for sure right, yes, yeah, so what she think?
what would she be proud of?
Oh, yeah, right, because we'remaking our future self proud,

(17:06):
right?
So what is?
your 13 year old self proud ofMm-hmm.
What would she be surprised by?
right, That's a good questiontoo.
What?
what would surprise her?
Yeah there's several thingsshe'd probably be surprised
about.
Yeah, you're with Kyle afterThat, that kind of the bull cut
from when he was yeah, anyways.
Super bull cut.

(17:27):
What might she wish you wouldchange?

Speaker 2 (17:31):
and so this is that reflection.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
When she's like I'm kind of mean yeah.
So what you know, what wouldshe wish you would change?
I think mine would alldefinitely be in a zone of like
stop taking life so seriouslylike stop, stop letting the
present moment pass you by, yeah, and really Embrace it, because
it's short, right?
Yeah, these are the moments.
What, let's see, what spark inher have you lost?

(17:58):
oh, yeah, right, that's a bigone.
Yes, you know.
And and then, on the flip side, what spark in her have you kept
alive?

Speaker 2 (18:06):
Yeah, yeah, i love that.
I think I'm gonna do 15 yearold me.
Okay, she's gonna have Spacebuns.
Yes, they used to wear my hairlike that all the time and
whenever you use, wear space.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Buns are renowned.
Every once in a while it peakson them for this episode, i know
, if only next hour.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yeah, space buns Probably, some like dramatic eye
makeup, because I used to dolike really bright colors, like
some greens or like pinks, andI'm always doing like a nude or
whatever Chokers you know, no,no like always, but it was
always like hearts and stars orlike Bright pink, yeah, whatever
, like I have some of that stuffalways was like a bright pink

(18:45):
belt And I like you know allthis fun shit which I have
little pieces of, but it's verymuch the adult version, of
course, of that fun.
I'm not sure.
Oh, i'm gonna totally just comeout, do it.

Speaker 1 (18:57):
I know nice, come out .
Come out and you see her go tothat one party and she's got her
like you know Yeah.

Speaker 2 (19:01):
I'm Britney Spears, like look on when she does the
buns with the sticks.

Speaker 1 (19:06):
Yes, no, she does the her hair and her jewelry and
yes, makeup and like dressesgreat Yeah, and she goes like
cuz, i have these big boots tofill it out, like she's so
excited about her body.

Speaker 2 (19:17):
Yes, which that's?

Speaker 1 (19:19):
getting tapped into, yes, and and there was no shame,
like in the moment when she'sdressed like that.
She wasn't worried about whatother people gonna think she's.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
I look amazing.
I'm having fun at this outfitbecause I'm a grown-up and I can
dress like this exactly sothat's the energy ladies love.

Speaker 1 (19:34):
Let's see what advice would you have for your 13 year
old self now being you and yourshoes, yeah.
And then, on the flip side, what advice might she have for
you?
Yes, that is That's really thestuff that I got for this
episode, so I love it.

Speaker 2 (19:51):
I'm experiment.
Yes, okay, so fine, so playful.
I can't wait to do it do it,please do it.

Speaker 1 (19:58):
Yeah, i mean, you need this, everyone needs this
playful energy And it willsurprise you and, yeah, might
change your life and you'rewelcome absolutely.
