083. Have you ever stared at the mirror and wondered why life keeps pushing you into the whirlpool of change?

Life is a rollercoaster that tests our adaptability, resilience, and courage. I've been there, standing at the precipice of change, unsure of what lurks in the dark of uncertainty.

But I've also seen the light at the end of the tunnel and embraced the transformation that follows. Together, we're going to explore how to conquer the fear of the unknown and thrive in our current season of life, no matter how daunting it may seem.

I'll share my personal journey of navigating life's curveballs and how it led me to a newfound sense of purpose and opportunities.

Have you ever wondered why we resist the transformation even though deep down we know it's for the better? Let me tell you, 'this too shall pass' is not just a phrase; it's a truth that underlines the transient nature of life. We'll talk about being adaptable, staying relevant amid constant change, and harnessing it to flourish in every season of life. We'll also tackle how external factors, personal choices, life events, and traumas shape our journey.

So, if change unnerves you or you're feeling stuck, let's step into this world of endless possibilities together and thrive in our current season of life.

(00:20):

(00:40):
We're even going to explore howto know what season of life
we're in and what it even meansand how temporary seasons really
are, which helps us through thetough ones, and it's going to
be a really insightful talk.
But before we dive too deepinto today's podcast, I want to
remind you my book Wait,Darling, Wait , a picture book
for children, is now availableon Amazon.

(01:02):
It's an easy click where youclick through your order on or
you look up my name on Marijanel, Knight the links are below
and the order gets arrived toyour doorstep so quickly.
I'm amazed by the turnaroundtime.
Thank you to all of you whohave already purchased this book
and left a review on Amazon andbeen supporting me through this

(01:25):
process.
It's been really incredible tolaunch this book, to see this
chicken fly into the world andyou know what?
A couple of nights ago I wasreading this book to a friend's
grandson.
He's only about two years oldand, you know, because I don't
have grandchildren of my ownright now, it's like I don't get
that hands-on, like moments toreally see kids' reactions.

(01:46):
I haven't started any schooltours yet or library tours, and
so reading to this little guywas so much fun because every
single time that I came to thechicken he would say chicken,
chicken, just like that.
I'm not exaggerating, it was socute.
So I've been calling this mychicken book, and so I really

(02:10):
want to urge you to hop onAmazon and buy your chicken book
and have so much fun with it,with the little ones in your
life.
As we dive into today's podcaston thriving in our current
season, I have a couple ofthings to say to preface the
podcast, because I was watchingthe review of the show, just

(02:31):
making sure there was likeanything I needed to edit, and I
realized that since the time ofrecording the podcast, I've
actually had a huge shift in myown personal and professional
season, I've had a shift.
Just by releasing the book, Ihave had this whole new world of

(02:53):
children's book publishing justkind of like open up to me and
fall in my lap, something that Ididn't even realize I was so
passionate about.
I have shared with you about mylittle bit about my
illustration journey, a littlebit about coming back into the
voice of my creativity, and Ishared a couple weeks back that
I just really need to startintegrating the into the

(03:15):
Marijanel Show, and I didn'treally know what that even means
.
But as this book released outinto the world, I have felt my
life change.
Like just one thing that we do,one little decision or step,
that we take a step ofconfidence, a step of risk,
whatever it is, can literallychange our life.

(03:36):
And I have been feeling that asmy life is changing from
stepping into the children'sbook publishing world, my
seasons are changing and, as youhear me speak about and share
about seasons today, I want youto even be prepared and knowing
that the season and flavor ofthis show and even what's

(03:58):
happening in me is changing andlet it be a ripple effect.
Let it be like this little, like inspiration of wind to you,
like to just like whoosh, justsort of like, give you a breath
of fresh air and together let'sshift into new seasons.
I know that some of what I'mpondering about being in Q4

(04:20):
headed into 2024, and what doesthe Marijanel show look like in
a whole new year and a wholenew season?
It'll be the third season ofthe show.
What will it even look like?
And I feel like it's going totake some big changes again.
It did last year and it willagain, because we need to let
the outspring and the overflowof what we're producing as

(04:42):
creative people match up to theseason that we're in.
And I'm shifting into thiswhole new season, and I think
you are too.
So hold on tight and let's gointo this topic of thriving in
our current season.
Today we're going to be talkingabout change and seasons and
being adaptable in the times ofchange and seasons.

(05:03):
That, whatever we'reexperiencing, if there's
anything that people who'veobserved my life for a really
long time would say about me,they would say Marijanel, you're
very adaptable, you're flexible.
I've had some of the strangestquickest life changes get thrown
my way like a curveball andI've been quick to flex and bend

(05:25):
and move with the changingtides.
I've figured out all along theway when you go to take a step
of faith and it's not what youthink, the stepping stone falls
out from underneath you orwhatever it is goes wrong and
you have to be quick on yourfeet.
You have to think and move andmake that transition as

(05:46):
gracefully as you possibly can.
This is something that I'vebecome particularly good at.
You all know, if you'velistened to previous podcasts,
I've moved a chazillion times inmy life.
When someone moves a lot, whenthey're forced to change homes,
they learn how to adapt andchange.
When someone is forced out ofdifferent careers and positions

(06:10):
and life just has its way oflike, let's say, changing the
tide or, you know, changingdirections on you, you just have
to go with it and make the mostof it.
There's that good old classicsaying that, like, when life
hands you lemons, you makelemonade.
When life throws you acurveball, you do your best to

(06:31):
catch it and figure out what todo with it.
I don't know, I just made thatone up.
But basically I have learned toflex and I've learned deep
within myself that all thingsare temporary, and that means
this too shall pass Means thatwhatever it is that we're
experiencing in life, it comesto an end eventually.

(06:55):
And even this life is temporaryin itself and it serves as a
reminder that both the positiveand the negative experiences
that we're having in our lives, these are fundamental to human
existence and they're alltemporary.
And if we get stuck, if you getstuck there, feeling like it's

(07:17):
never going to end and you justget down in the dumps about your
situation or season, you'renever going to be able to bloom
where you're planted or make themost of your situation.
And I love to say and remindyou this we are made for change,

(07:38):
you are made to change.
And if you're not changing, then you really need to ask
yourself the key question whatam I doing if I'm not changing?
And if particularly changingfor the better?
Sometimes we can regress, wecan make changes for the worse.
That's not good either.
We want to push forward intobigger, better things, become

(08:02):
better people and grow our faithand our trust deeper and
stronger through the course andthe cycles of our lifetime, and
not go the other way around.
So the phrase this too shallpass I don't mean it flippantly,
I don't mean it like whateveryou're going through.
This too shall pass.

(08:22):
It's not said in that tone orheart.
Rather, it's suggesting that nomatter how difficult your
season or situation is, it's notpermanent.
The better days will eventuallycome, and this serves as a
reminder that in times ofhappiness or great success, we

(08:46):
often see the closing of thoseseasons as well.
People who have risen to thetop of their game or they have
experienced the greatest ofsuccesses in their lifetime in
their field or realm, that toocomes to an end.
We all retire from what we'regood at, and that awareness is

(09:06):
important to keep us in check, staying humble and remembering
that good times are alsotransient.
So, in essence, this too shallpass is a reminder for us to
keep in perspective the ups andthe downs.
Both are temporary, and the joyand the sorrows are temporary.

(09:29):
And in moving forward, to saythis that in the temporary state
of whatever we're in, whetheryou're in the most amazing
season of your life, you'venever had so much joy.
Things are going so well.
Or perhaps some of you are onthe other side and things are
never been worse.
Either way, we need to embracethe idea that we there's a

(09:56):
saying, it sounds harsh, butevolve or die, adapt or perish.
Essentially, change with thetimes or you get left behind.
That rhymes.
I should make it a poem changewith the times or get left
behind.
Stay relevant in your changingenvironment and move with it.

(10:18):
It is so hard to do, but Iassure you you were made to
change.
We've talked a lot about purposeand understanding our purposes,
the small little things ofpurpose and tensions and
meaningful life roles thataccumulate to the bigger purpose

(10:40):
, and I painted the picture likeour purpose would be like a big
garden and our purposes arelike every individual flower or
plant growing in that garden, that the garden has realms and
that these realms are like theareas of texture, color and
design within the garden.
Those are realms.

(11:02):
They're like the roles that youfulfill.
And then there's the thingthat's out of our control, that
affects it all, and that's theseason.
And within the seasons thatcome and go, we need to adapt in
order to survive.
We need.
It's just the way it is, and Ifeel that an essential role that

(11:26):
I play as a mentor, in leadingyou through personal discoveries
, in teaching you to journal anddo self reflection, it is to
help you adapt.
It is to help you change.
I used the word transform.
I kind of get hooked on words.
You might have noticed thatabout me and for a while I was
using the word transformationand I've said time and again

(11:49):
that transformation is slow andthat's something we all resist.
We don't like it.
So, going back to my very firstlines of the podcast where I
challenged you, perhaps there'sa resisting change, you don't
want to change, and you'redigging your heels in and you're
like I don't want to change.

(12:10):
I wonder if it's because changeis slow and you stay in that
process of growth in that onearea of change for longer than
you wish.
Like if we could all snap ourfingers and have the change we
want, we would do it that way.
But snapping our fingers orwaving a magic wand and having

(12:32):
instant results doesn't teach uscharacter and resilience, and
so our resilience is challengedto show itself to be strong when
we go through continuous, steady and sometimes difficult
changes.

(12:52):
So I'm really challengingmyself to embrace change and
really leaning in to what doesit mean for me right now, in the
season of life that I'm in, totransform?
So you know, in all of the chatthat I've done on the podcast

(13:12):
here about growing, aboutgrowing and transforming, I want
to relieve your pressure toconstantly strive for
self-betterment, a whilecheering you on in
transformation.
It's like I want you to knowthat right here, right now, you

(13:36):
are enough, and yet I want youto know that you have so much
potential.
I'm made to change, but I'menough.
Let's say it together I am madeto change, but I am enough.
Okay so, lastly, here on theshow, I want to talk about how

(13:57):
circumstances affect the seasonsof our life.
Okay, so, circumstances play amassive, significant impact on
what we experience in theseasons of our life.
These are all the externalfactors, the personal choices
that lead us to basicallyentering a time period.

(14:18):
It can be an economic status, family dynamics like, for
example, do you have little kidsor big kids or no kids, or, you
know, aging parents or sickdogs?
I mean, I'm not meaning to makethings up, but it is.
See, it is a season.

(14:38):
As I mentioned, this too shallpass, but it is a season.
Our health and well-beingaffects the season, our
educational opportunities orwhat we've accomplished in our
education, for example, there'sthe season of being a student
and then a season of being theprofessional.
There's cultural and societalnorms that affect our seasons of

(14:59):
life.
Even our geographical locationand literal seasons of what's,
you know, happening in theprecipitation around us affects
our life seasons, our personalchoices.
These include careers,relationships, lifestyles.
They play a crucial role in theseasons and the different paths
and outcomes.

(15:20):
Life events and trauma alsoaffect our seasons.
For example, if you are healingfrom a trauma, you will be in a
season, and what I have foundis that seasons overlap with one
another.
I shared a story way back inthe podcast when it was still
called curiosity's apprentice.

(15:42):
I shared a story about losing alife too soon a dear friend of
mine who was tragically killedin a car accident.
That season of grief, whichlasted far too long, it was a
deep season of grief in my life, overlapped with the season of
parenting young children, andthose two seasons overlapping
gave me, like, significantchallenges in parenting while I

(16:07):
grieved healthily.
And so all of these differentcombinations of seasons also
interplay with one another andour life goals and aspirations
affect our seasons, and I'vementioned this list.
That could go on and on, andyou know when we recognize our

(16:28):
seasons and how they overlap andinterplay.
It helps us to stay focused andclear in our life.
It helps us to know andunderstand this too shall pass
and what we can do to embraceand flourish in a season.

(16:49):
I mentioned in last episode howI am really looking to flourish
as an empty nester.
It's a season that came andcrept up on me way too soon.
I don't feel ready, and yet Iknow that other empty nesters
that I know have a veryfulfilling life doing things
that they haven't been able todo since pre-children, and I

(17:12):
think about that and need to dosome rediscovering, and so I'm
looking to embrace what thetreasures that I can from the
season that I'm in and that'ssomething that I want to lead us
all through here on theMarijanel Show is really, really
getting the most out of theseason that you're in?
