Marijanel (00:00):
Hey and welcome back
Marijanel Show, another episode
where we're unlocking the fullpotential of you.
Have you been lackingconfidence, doubting yourself,
wondering where on earth is yourplace to shine?
Well, we're in the Place ofShine series right now, talking
about how to find confidence toshine where you're really meant
(00:21):
to shine in life.
Welcome to the so glad you'rehere.
Let's get started with today'sepisode.
All of us are on this quest tofind our place to shine.
No one's exempt from it, andthere's a really, really
important point that I want tobring across in today's podcast.
It's about time.
It takes time to find the placeof shine and you're Marijanel ,
(00:45):
i don't want to listen to this.
I want a quick fix.
Give me a three week program, give me a 30 day blitz, give me
a two day challenge to find myplace to shine.
Yes, i can give you journalprompts and I can give you a
power pack podcast full of allkinds of you know this is how
(01:09):
you shine tips.
But the reality is, and what Ihave learned from my own life of
coming into a place of callingand destiny, is that it's a long
process.
It's not a microwave.
It's not a microwave fix.
It is a long, dedicated process.
(01:30):
We're talking years and that isnot a good sales pitch at all.
It's not a good sales pitch fora mentor to come along and say
I would like to mentor you andit's going to take years.
I can tell you this that withina short amount of time I can
boost your confidence and I havebeen doing that in a series
through the podcast.
(01:51):
I'm going to be offering thatin some up and coming courses in
my mentorship program that arelike confidence jump starts,
confidence boosts, but the trueyou finding your true place of
shine, then beginning to shineand remaining in shine is a long
(02:11):
process that takes time, and Iwant to talk to you about the
power of time.
This is not going to be aboutproductivity and how to use your
time, how to systemize, although you know I love all
that stuff.
I love all that stuff and it'sa huge part of my professional
work strategizing time and timemanagement.
(02:32):
But today I'm coming to youwith an approach on time that is
a little bit different andabout you settling in to the
fact that the best growth inyour life and the best, the best
of what's going to come isgoing to take time, but it's
going to be you aligning.
(02:53):
You need to align to that placeof shine.
You need to see that place ofshine, align to it and then let
time take you there and if ittakes you there slowly, we have
to be okay with it.
I could right now be speaking tothe impatient people that are a
lot like me, where I see whereI want to go and I want to be
(03:14):
there in an hour.
I want everything in mybusiness and all my plans to you
know, get with it.
I want to be there as fast as Ican, and I know that.
I know that's not how it works,especially when you're a person
of faith who's also trustingGod to have a plan and being
(03:36):
open to him changing itsometimes, which has happened to
me time and time again.
There are so many times that Ican look back through my
journals where I see that Ithought I was going a certain
direction and I thought I knewwhat would unfold, and then
something changes my plans andit's actually for the better,
(04:00):
and it doesn't necessarilychange my place of shine, which
would relate to my calling andpurpose and what I'm good at but
it it does in fact change theplans in which I thought I would
shine, or it does in factchange maybe the route that my
shine path takes and thepatience and the trust that it
(04:23):
takes to enjoy the slow road.
It's hard to enjoy the slow roadin a microwave world.
I need to confess somethingabout myself.
I don't think I've shared thison the show yet.
I'm a fairly slow driver.
(04:44):
I drive a vehicle that doesn'tlook like it should be slow And
that's actually quite enjoyablefor me because I think maybe I'm
judged less on the road becausemy vehicle looks fast and yet I
drive it slow and they justthink, oh, there's a good reason
that that souped up, liftedJeep is going slow.
It's a trick.
(05:06):
But I'm like, essentially, agranny driver and I take the
slow road around my town.
We have a highway, a really fast, busy highway, the one in which
a dear friend of mine wastragically killed many years ago
, and I think I have some traumarelated to that highway which
could be part of why I avoid it.
(05:26):
But aside from the trauma, ifind I generally tend to like
the scenic route.
So we have this super fasthighway through our town that I
do like to avoid.
But then all around we havethese side roads that bypass
lakes and mountains And if youtime it right, the sun is
(05:47):
glowing over the water and youknow, it's just these incredible
British Columbia views.
I live in the Shuswap Valley ofBC and it's just breathtaking
And I've taught myself all theselittle side roads to get where
I want to go.
We have a far town, we have adowntown and we have an uptown.
I live uptown and when I haveto go to the far end of town I
(06:11):
will take the lake view and thencut this block and cut this
corner.
Down that one way street I'llget to see the biggest treble
cliff sculpture in the world.
Woohoo, it's super awesome.
Actually, a friend of minehelped build it.
And I do all these side streetsin order to get where I want to
go because, first, i don't mindmeandering It's something I've
(06:35):
taught myself to do And second,i find I still get where I need
to go in mostly the same amountof time, without the stress and
previous trauma of the highway.
So I am saying this, sharingwith you my granny habits of
driving slow and taking the sideroads, because I wanted to say
(06:59):
that that is like sometimes asnapshot for me of even what I'm
doing in my life and business.
It's like I know exactly whereI want to go but I've allowed
myself to take some side roadsand I've allowed the detours to
enjoy the view, to enjoy thesunset.
If you think about it in termsof like, let's say we're hiking
(07:21):
up this mountain.
I've likened our destiny to amountain in previous podcasts
where I say here is our mountainof destiny and sometimes we're
ill-equipped, we have the wronghiking shoes, which would be
like our confidence.
We're just lacking theconfidence to make the hike.
We're ill-equipped.
And let's say now we'restanding at this mountain and
there's like one main path andthen there's these other little
(07:45):
meandering paths that show uswildflowers and extra views and
you know beautiful sights andscenes and maybe waterfalls that
we wouldn't experience if wewent straight up the mountain to
our destiny.
And yes, one takes longer andone and it might feel like
detours, but there's somethingbeautiful to be found in the
(08:09):
meander.
There's something beautiful tobe found in taking our time and
allowing time to mature us.
I've talked also about the timein my life the decade that I was
a professional potter where Iwould make the clay vessel and
purposely wrap it in plastic andput it on the shelf.
(08:30):
By wrapping the clay vessel inin plastic and allowing it to
dry slowly, you can often saveit from cracking in the kiln.
If something dries quickly, itcan crack just as it's drying,
but then it can also have theselittle weaknesses that could
crack in the kiln.
If I dried it slowly and I justmethodically checked it and
(08:51):
sprayed it with a little misthere and there and really
babysat it while it dried, ittook a lot longer to produce the
pottery, but I would come outwith better quality, a more
mature, strong piece of pottery, and so I used to feel often
(09:12):
when I would set that piece onthe shelf to dry, that even in
my own life it was a picture ofhow many times I have been quote
unquote shelved.
I have felt shelved so manytimes as if you know my potter,
my master potter, was makingsomething beautiful and just
(09:33):
said okay, now here you go, siton the shelf and dry slowly,
because it will be better thatway.
And yes, it will be better thatway, but it doesn't feel that
great to the clay.
You kind of look around theshelf being like well, why does
that vessel get used, and why isthat one getting in the kiln
already and I'm just sittinghere doing nothing?
and when will my time and placeto shine be?
(09:56):
That's what all those, thoseclay pots, are asking from the
drying shelf.
I have felt shelved so manytimes in my life.
There were times I thought Iwas ready and I was like, yes,
this is this is the moment I'mgoing to publish this, you know,
start a podcast.
Or this is the moment I'm goingto have my online course.
Or this is the moment and I'mspeaking now in terms of
(10:18):
entrepreneurial things, becauseit's very relevant in my
personal life, but to you itcould sound different Yes, this
is the moment I'm going to stepout and fill in the blank.
And yet then it doesn't happenfor one reason or another,
whether it's a season or acircumstance, but we get
(10:39):
befuddled, we get confused andwe think that we have no shine
or that we have no purpose, because the time of maturing,
the time of it becoming, hastaken so long that we feel like
it's not going to happen.
Time going slowly and maturingus isn't there.
(11:01):
It isn't part of the process toto diminish our purpose.
It's part of the process togrow us stronger for the purpose
, and I've used quite a few wordpictures today.
I've used the word picture oftaking my time driving through
town, climbing the mountain, meandering through on different
(11:22):
trails and even drying slowly onthe shelf as a piece of clay.
But there's one more wordpicture I want to bring forward
is thinking of yourself as atree that's growing.
And you could be a tree thatshoots up really fast to your
place of shine and have no rootsystem to support the height of
(11:44):
your growth.
Or you can be a tree thatallows the time for your root
system to grow deep and strong.
Maybe the tree on top justlooks like a seedling for a
while, because those roots aresecuring themselves in the, the
good foundation, and then youbegin to grow.
I feel like in my own lifethat's the story.
(12:05):
It's been a story of slowlydrying on the potter shelf.
It's been a story of slowlygrowing roots And actually there
are some things in my life thatI thought were even happening
now.
I thought, ok, this and thisand this are happening now And
as of the last couple of weeks,i realized, no, i'm actually
(12:28):
still waiting.
I'm actually still meant togrow and mature.
This is taking forever.
Will it ever happen in mylifetime?
Will the things that I know, the dreams that I've had, the
calling that's in there, evercome out?
The only answer I can give youis trust.
We can only trust, i can onlytrust that I'm meant to do what
(12:53):
I'm meant to do here, and partof what I'm meant to do right
now is wait and grow those deep, secure roots And trust.
And so today, as I speak to youabout your place of shine coming
into your calling, i wanted tobe very specific to point out
(13:15):
that place of shine takes timeAnd no matter what my up and
coming mentorship programs aregoing to offer, i know that.
I know I cannot advertise and Icannot put it out there that I
have any quick fixes for you.
Yes, i can boost yourconvincing.
(13:36):
Yes, i can give you these peptalks that hopefully you turn
off the podcast and you feelamazing after.
I want to bring that kind ofpositivity into your life.
But I also know that I have toprepare in my mentorship program
that we're going to be bucklingour seatbelts together for a
(13:58):
longer drive.
We're going to be putting onour proverbial hiking shoes for
a longer hike.
We're going to be gettingwrapped up in that plastic like
clay on the shelf to drytogether for a long time,
because we're in it for the longgame, we're in it for the haul.
(14:19):
And though that root system isgoing to go deep and go strong,
and when your time to shinemanifest, when it is actually
the time that the growth and thefruit from the little tree that
you are begins to sprout andgrow, it's going to be wow
because you've taken your time.
(14:39):
So do not fear that time isn'ton your side.
Do not fear that there isn'tsomething good happening in your
life when it feels like, ohgood things are happening.
For everyone else but me, iwant to say I believe this is a
natural part of the process infinding your place to shine.
(15:00):
It takes time.
You're not alone in taking yourtime.
You're not alone in growingyour root system.
When it doesn't look likeanything's happening, there is
something good happening.
I want to leave you with thatexpression of hope that there's
(15:22):
something good happening andthat you can be rest assured
that you're not alone and youwon't be left in the dust.
Your place of shine will come.
It takes time.
