(00:01):
Hi, and welcome back to thesimple SEO podcast.
Today I want to jump in and talkabout something that I've get
gotten a ton of questions onrecently, and that is how can
you use chat GPT to do SEO foryou?
Can it, so let's talk about itfor a minute.
I know in the past I've saidwe're not using it to do our
(00:22):
SEO, however.
It's getting better.
It's able to do something.
So let's talk about what it canand can't do because honestly,
it can speed things up for youand it can help with a lot.
It just can't do everything foryou.
And you still need to reallyunderstand how SEO works and how
(00:42):
Google works and ai, SEO and allof that to make sure that what
you're getting is correct.
So can you use it for SEO?
Absolutely.
You can, you can use it as atool.
In fact, I've created a customchat bot, a custom GPT that my
(01:02):
students are now using to helpthem work their way through my
course faster and startimplementing SEO on their
website.
So what it can really do.
You in many, many ways.
There are some limitations.
There are some things thatyou're going to want to make
sure you don't have chat GPTdue, even if it tells you it can
(01:27):
because it can't.
So you can use it to really helpyou.
Figure out what content tocreate.
So I've created two custom chatbots for my students.
One of them is to help themreally get chatty, which is what
I refer to it as, to really getchatty to sound more like them,
to help really figure out theirbrand voice and what they say
(01:49):
and what they don't say, so thatit helps it sound more like
them, so that we're notnecessarily getting the robotic
Speak of chat, GPT.
Like a year or two years ago, oryear, year and a half ago when
it first came out, you know howyou could immediately tell that
it was created with chat GPT?
Because it used all sorts ofwords that we don't really use
(02:11):
on a day-to-day basis, which isinteresting because it's trained
on language.
So somebody out there is sayinggame changing and um.
Massive and enormous anddifferent things all the time.
But as most of us as businessowners, most of us don't speak
that way.
So the first one that I'vecreated is to help you.
(02:32):
Really figure out how to makechat, GPT sound more like you.
How to identify who your idealcustomer is, what questions they
have, what they need, all ofthat.
Because when we're creatingcontent, it's really important
that we're thinking about whoare we creating it for and how
do we help them, and whatinformation do they need.
So that's the first thing.
So yes, you can use chat GPT tohelp you create content Now.
(02:56):
I want you to be very involvedin the process.
It's very important that you arethe final touch on anything that
you publish to your website, your social media, your email,
et cetera.
But you can use Chatty to helpyou brainstorm ideas.
If you are new to blogging andyou're trying to figure out
what.
Your content topics are whatpillars you should be covering.
(03:18):
You can have chatty help you tobrainstorm that.
That's what one of my customGPTs does for my students is
help them figure out what wouldmy ideal customer be interested
in, what topics would makesense, and then brainstorm
topics.
So you can do that.
You can use it from a contentstandpoint, you can ask it to.
I give you a list of ideas thatyou could potentially write
(03:42):
about for your ideal customer.
You can use it to outline apost, to tell you what you
should write about, what youshould include.
You can use it to help youunderstand how to potentially
outrank a competitor.
Let's say that.
It.
You have a page, you have awebsite blog or a website page
(04:03):
that's ranking in position two,and your competitor's ranking in
position one, and you want tounderstand why they're ranking
higher than you.
You can actually ask chat GPT totake a look at it and to give
you guidance and feedback andlet you know why that one is
ranking higher than yours.
So I, that's one of the thingsthat I've trained my custom GPT
(04:25):
to do for my students, is tolook at that page and say, Hey,
why are they ranking higher thanme?
What do I need to add in?
How do I change this to have abetter chance of ranking?
You can ask it to give you anoutline for a blog post.
You can ask it to even give youa draft.
Now, I am gonna caution you, Idon't want you to have chat,
(04:46):
GPT, actually write your final.
Blog post for you.
I want you to be involved inthis.
And it's very important becauseremember, everything that's
coming out of chat, GPT isinformation that's already out
there in the world.
It's not new, it's not unique.
You need to make it new andunique and special for you and
(05:10):
for your audience.
And remember, Google wants youto look at, Google's gonna grade
you based on a system.
Your experience, your expertise, your authority, and your trust.
So we need to show Google.
How you are different, how youhave this experience, you have
this expertise by adding inthose anecdotes, those case
studies, those stories, allthose things that make you you
(05:33):
and unique and make your contentunique.
That's something chat GPT cannotdo for you.
And when I say chatty, I meanyou can substitute Claude, you
can substitute whichever one youare wanting to use, whichever
one you prefer, but it's thesame thing.
Make sure that you are involvedin the process as well.
So when you're doing this, Iwant you to start, before you
(05:55):
start asking it to help you withany work.
I want you to start by findingthe correct key word and chat.
GPT cannot do this for you.
And it will tell you, it willeagerly tell you, unless you're
one of my students and you'reusing the SEO assistant that I
built for you, which is trainedto tell you I can't do that.
(06:17):
I can help you with ideas, but Iwant you to brainstorm ideas
and.
It can kind of help with ideas, but I'm gonna tell you right
now, if you ask it anythingabout competition, you ask it
anything about search volume,it's really bad at that.
It's gonna tell you these arelow, these are low competition
keywords.
These would be great for a smallweb website, and then it's gonna
recommend something like lamps.
(06:40):
So don't use it for keywordresearch.
It's not that, but you canbrainstorm.
I ask it to give you an idea of10 long tail keywords that a
website.
Low domain authority might beable to rank for and feed it
information about your idealcustomer and your business.
(07:00):
And these are my topics and mypillars.
I need 12 ideas on this topic,or I need 12 ideas on this
content pillar.
Tell it what keywords you wantit to use.
Ideally, if you don't know whatkeywords you're going after, ask
it to help you brainstorm a listof keywords.
Let it know who your idealcustomer is, what you wanna talk
(07:21):
about, what your content pillarsare, et cetera.
Then take that brainstorm listand go to a real keyword
research tool, and that's whereI want you to do.
The verification, I want you tolook for the competitiveness,
your website's ability to rank.
Um, you know, do you really havea chance?
Can you really potentially rankfor that one?
(07:43):
Do not trust chat GPT to do thatpart of it for you because it's
not capable.
It may very well tell you thatit is, but it is not.
So you need to be very involvedin the keyword research process.
Once you have your keyword, thenyou can ask it.
Step two is just to have itoutline your blog post.
(08:03):
What should you include and letit know.
You want to think like an SEOexpert and you want to create a
blog post.
That is helpful for your idealcustomer and you want to make
sure you include elements forEEAT and help me outline this
blog post.
What should I include?
You can even go as far as havingit write the first draft for
(08:28):
you, really giving you insightsand information and what you
should put in there.
And then what I want you to do.
Is to edit that blog post.
So you go through and you reviewand you change the text, and you
change it so that it sounds likeyou, it doesn't sound like
chatty, it sounds unique to you.
(08:49):
Add in your EEAT.
Elements do all of this so thatthe content that you create is
high enough quality that Googlewill potentially share it with
people if you just simply postthe content.
The way it comes out of chat,GPT Google considers that AI
(09:10):
spam content and they are notgoing to rank you high for it
because there's no real value orbenefit.
So make sure that.
You're taking that draft and youare editing it, then you want to
optimize your blog post.
So once you have it, it'sedited, you're happy with it.
You can tell chat, GPT whattitle, what keyword to use, and
(09:32):
ask it to write a title tag anda meta description that follow
SEO best practices.
You may need to let it know thatyou want your title tag to be
less than 60 characters, and youwant your meta description to be
less than 160 characters.
I've seen it be hit or misshere.
Sometimes it's really good andit knows those numbers and
sometimes it kind of messes up.
(09:53):
Now, if you're one of mystudents and you're using the AI
SEO tool, you don't have toworry about telling you it
should already know.
So now it can write your titletag and your meta description,
which is going to save you time.
It's gonna make it easier foryou to rank on Google with this
new content piece, and you don'thave to worry about being the
(10:14):
one to rank it.
You can also ask chat GPT tolook at your finalized blog
post.
Once you've done your editing, you've added in your EEAT
elements.
You have your title tag and yourmeta description.
You can actually ask it to takea look at your blog post and let
you know if there's somethingelse.
(10:36):
Should add to increase yourchances of ranking for this
particular keyword.
There's so much you can do withit.
It's a really powerful tool ifyou use it the right way.
So, AI standpoint, it can doabout 75% of the work for you
today, creating your blog post, creating your content for your
(10:59):
website if you understand reallyhow to format those quick.
And your, uh, prompts to makesure that it sounds like you and
it's on brand, and you areadding in the EEAT elements and
you are involved in the editingprocess.
(11:20):
It can do a lot of the heavylifting.
That's why I created two customGPTs for my students because I
wanted them to be able to usechat GPT because it does speed
things up so much, but I wantedto make sure that.
The version of it they wereusing had correct information in
(11:42):
it because sometimes chat GPTmakes mistakes.
So it's really important that wemake sure that we're verifying
what it's telling us what we'redoing, make sure the content
makes sense.
But you can absolutely use it tohelp you with your SEO and your
content development on yourwebsite.
Just remember.
(12:02):
It cannot do your keywordresearch for you.
It will tell you it can, unlessyou're using, unless you're one
of my students and you're usingthe one I created for you, which
should tell you, I can help youbrainstorm, but you need to use
another keyword research tool.
So I want you to really rememberthat it's not good at keyword
research, but it can absolutelyhelp you with your content
(12:23):
pillars, your topics, blog, posttitles.
It can help you brainstorm, um,email subject line.
Weekly email.
It can help you do so manythings to speed up the process.
If you're curious, you wannalearn more about how to do this,
there is a blog post all aboutthis on my website.
(12:44):
I'll put the link in the notes.
It also was in the email.
If you are on my email list andyou got the email today.
The link to it is there.
I've included some sampleprompts that you can use to help
you connect with chat GPT andget the information that you
need out of it.
And if you want access to mycustom GPTs, join me in simple
(13:05):
SEO content and you will haveaccess to those so that you know
that what it's doing is correct,as with any tool.
You really need to have a baseunderstanding of how things work
so that you can verify that whatit's doing is correct.
Once you have that baseunderstanding, you really, you
get the rules of ranking onGoogle and ranking in ai.
(13:29):
So chat, GPT, perplexity.
AI overviews, AI mode, all ofthat, then you can use these
tools to speed things updrastically.
But I don't want you justplaying around with them if you
haven't learned what the bestpractices are because there's
too much room for error.
(13:50):
And if you make mistakes here, Imean, you guys, you understand
with SEO, you have to follow therules.
You don't wanna make mistakes, you don't wanna get into trouble
with.
AI search.
So if you're really looking tolearn and speed this up, join me
in class.
Let me teach you what you needto do and then teach you how to
use chat GPT to do as much ofthe work for you as possible
