Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey guys, what's up?
It's Shelby here, the marketingbroker.
Today we're talking all aboutSEO.
Seo stands for search engineoptimization.
There are some really cooltools that are free, as well as
some tricks you can do withouthaving to pay thousands of
dollars to an SEO expert to helpyour small business thrive on
(00:21):
the internet.
So exactly is SEO again, I justsaid it's search engine
optimization but how do weactually use it to our benefit
for our business on the internet?
It's important because, withour SEO efforts, we're gonna be
ranking higher on Google.
So something that you shouldknow is that it's gonna take
(00:41):
time to actually rank high onGoogle.
I have a lot of clients that arelike okay, I want this done
tomorrow.
What can you do to make mehigher on Google?
The more and more businessesthat are getting on Google, the
harder it is to actually becomeon the like.
Get on the first page of Google.
Sometimes you'll have SEOagencies call you that only do
this for you and they willcharge you thousands of dollars
(01:04):
a month.
They'll never tell you how todo it on your own and they'll
also offer you or try to tellyou that this is gonna be a fast
process.
I like to tell people.
Give it 90 to 120 days and youcan do these small steps on your
own if you are capable of doingit.
If not, then you can hiresomeone to help you, but it
shouldn't cost you thousands ofdollars a month for SEO efforts
(01:27):
on your business.
So let's talk about how Googleranks our website, because,
ultimately, our website is whatwe're going to use these SEO
skills and stuff for to make itrank higher on Google.
We want to.
A good Google ranks it onkeywords, your content, the
(01:47):
backlinks, as well as thetechnical aspects of your
website.
So let's talk about that yourtechnical aspects are going to
be is it mobile friendly?
Is it on a secure site?
Is it easy to navigate?
Like you'll have Google botsthat will go onto your website
and they will actually see ifall this stuff works.
What are people clicking on?
Do you have the backlinks, which is going to be linking
(02:10):
other websites to you, whichmeans that that gives you more
credibility.
So, to get backlinks, we'regoing to talk about that soon,
but we're going to be posted onother things like Chamber of
Commerce websites, blogging forother people, getting any kind
of podcast interview, somethingthat people are actually posting
about you with the link, andanother thing is the content.
(02:31):
So are we going to answer thequestions that people are
searching for.
So, for marketing broker, ifpeople are looking for social
media management, if they go tomy website, will it actually
come up with an answer for whatis social media management or
what do I offer for social mediamanagement?
And then the last thing isgoing to be your keywords, and
with keywords we can look upthings on a google keyword
(02:54):
search.
That's completely free to you.
We'll talk about it soon, butyou can look at keywords that
are like just about yourbusiness.
What are people searching forin your area?
Are they doing doing socialmedia management?
Are they doing websites?
Are they looking up hello, seostuff?
Obviously you're here listeningto this because you're
wondering about SEO, and sothat's something that the
Marketing Broker website answersfor you, or that this podcast
(03:17):
answers for you.
So the first thing I want you todo is optimize your Google
Business profile, so your GoogleBusiness profile is 100% free.
Everything I'm going to tellyou on this podcast is 100% free
Things that you can do to helpoptimize your own search engine
for your business.
So go to Google Businessprofile.
You can even Google GoogleBusiness profile.
(03:40):
See, if you have one.
Sometimes if you've been inbusiness for a hot minute, it
will automatically set one upand then you can take ownership
of it.
If you are new to business, sayI would say in the last five to
seven years, you would need toset up your own Google Business
profile.
You wanna get on there, youwanna verify it, make sure all
your information is on thereyour website, your phone number,
(04:01):
the services you offer.
It also really likes to have alocation and so with that
location, if you were like, hey,I work out of my house, okay,
well, you can put a location ofjust a state or just an area and
you don't have to worry aboutyour home location actually
showing up.
Now, if you are a store, if youhave a storefront, if you sell
products or something like that, then you definitely want to
(04:23):
make sure that you have thatlocation on there.
So we want to claim our Googlebusiness profile and then you
want to update it once a month.
You can add photos on there, you can add more services, you
can put a post.
Technically, you can have apost on there and that really
feeds into the search engine.
You want people to leave youreviews.
(04:44):
So, as much as you do work forpeople, I want you asking people
for reviews, especially if youare a product-based business, so
that way, people can see okay, well, this product works for
this person.
If you're a service-basedbusiness, just like I am, I want
people to see oh, she'sactually helped these people
with their SEO or she's helpedthese people with their social
(05:04):
media stuff, and they can seethe good reviews that people
have left behind.
Of course, you may have theoption or people can still have
the option of leaving a badreview, so we want to make sure
that we can maintain that andthat we're actually doing good
business for people to leavegood reviews, because Google
does use that in your rankingfor search engines.
(05:30):
The next one is something that alot of people overcomplicate
and we want to just kind of dumbit down a little bit.
It's using keywords.
As I mentioned earlier, googlehas a free keyword planner.
So Google Google keywordplanner and whenever you look at
that, you can put in yourindustry, put in your area and
see what people are actuallyusing as keywords and then
incorporate that.
We want to incorporate that onour website content.
(05:52):
We want to incorporate that onour social media content.
You can do that throughhashtags, you can do it through
the actual post itself.
But we want to make sure we arealways adding keywords.
You want to add them to yourblog post, to your headlines, to
any kind of productdescriptions you may have.
So that way it's always pullingup on Google and when those
bots are seeing it they're likeoh yeah, okay, these people have
(06:14):
this keyword on here and thesepeople have this keyword on
there.
A good thing to focus on iscalled a long tail keyword.
That means like best coffeeshop in Dallas, instead of just
saying coffee shop, because wewant to get specific.
So that way, when people aregoing in, like, hello, every
time I go somewhere I want tolook up a local coffee shop in
that area.
(06:34):
So, let's say, when I was inChicago, best local coffee shop
in Chicago.
So those people that have usedthose keywords on their website,
on social media throughhashtags, it's going to pull up
first before people that haveused those keywords on their
website, on social media throughhashtags.
It's going to pull up firstbefore people that haven't put
any of that effort into it.
So, again, keywords are veryimportant.
You can start with making 50 to100 keywords that you would
(06:55):
like to see in the searches forgoogle for your, for your
business, and then keep those ona google doc.
It's super simple.
Go look at them.
It's also a great way to usefor social media content, if
you're like what do I want topost about today?
Okay, I'm looking at mykeywords and I can see here that
I want to help small businesseswith social media management.
Boom, that's the kind of postI'm gonna post today, or that's
(07:17):
the kind of blog I want to writeabout today.
The next one we're going to talkabout is making sure our
website is Google friendly, which means that it's fast.
It's also mobile friendly.
It's even not easy to navigateand we have titles and meta
descriptions.
If you're kind of on the fenceabout learning what meta
descriptions are, easy, go tochat GBT.
(07:38):
Ask it to create a metadescription for your business,
plus the area that you have inthe service that you offer, and
it will actually create it foryou, for your business, plus the
area that you have and theservice that you offer, and it
will actually create it for youfor 100%, for free, and you copy
and paste that in.
We want to make sure our metadescription is different on
every page that we have.
We want to make sure our titleis very clear for that page as
well.
(07:58):
And then, if you wanted to go astep further about making our
website Google friendly, we wantto use internal links.
A great example of that wouldbe if we had a blog post about,
let's say, you sold skincareproducts.
So you had a blog post about acertain skincare product.
Let's say it's something thathelps with acne, and you're like
(08:20):
okay, this is the best spotlike acne spot treatment product
that we sell.
You have an internal link onthat blog post that actually
goes back to the product pagefor that specific product that
you're talking about.
So that's how you use internallinks.
Of course, you can make it ascomplicated as you want, but
that's the best way for me togive you an example.
The fourth thing we want to dois create a simple, seo-friendly
(08:43):
content.
This is easy, guys.
This is something you can dolaying in bed.
This is something ChatGPT canhelp with you.
You can create blog posts thatare answering some customer
questions that they may have, like how exactly is SEO good for
my business?
That's a question that I wouldask or have an answer for on my
(09:03):
blog post.
Also, we want to have locallanding pages with our city and
state names so that way itactually has a local search.
These can be technically hiddenpages on your website or they
can be linked on your websiteand people have to kind of like
click multiple times over andover to find it.
But at least it's there andgoogle can see it.
And and the last thing is ishaving a frequently asked
(09:26):
questions section for searchfriendly answers.
Again, if you're a productbased business, just like what
Amazon has, right, we have afrequently asked question on the
bottom of every single productthat you see on Amazon.
So they are asking, or peopleare asking questions, they're
already answering them, and thenGoogle sees like, oh, you're a
great resource for thisparticular product and we're
(09:47):
going to push that to the top ofGoogle because obviously you
care more about your customer, because ultimately, building our
SEO is actually buildingcredibility for our business,
and that's what Google wants tosee that we are credible for the
people that they want to sendto us, and we want to prove
ourselves more credible than anyof our competitor.
So we have to put effort intoit.
(10:09):
The last thing we're gonna talkabout.
Number five is get backlinks.
This is literally the best wayto grow your SEO for your
business.
You wanna get listed on localdirectories.
That's through Yelp, even ifyou're in a place that Yelp is
not being used.
Your chamber of commerce, LikeI said, you can write guest
posts on blogs or industrywebsites so that way they're
(10:35):
always linking back to yourwebsite and sharing your content
on social media to drivetraffic back to your site.
So if you do work with me oryou've heard me on other
podcasts talk about this wealways want that call to action
back to our website from socialmedia.
That's all social media is.
It is a driver to our website.
We want people to leave ourFacebook page, to leave our
Instagram page and go to ourwebsite.
(10:56):
That's all we use social mediafor.
Yes, we want to be engaging.
Yes, we want to be fun.
Yes, we want to have somethingthat's educating our clients,
but ultimately we want them touse that information and go back
to our website and learn moreabout our product and our
service and actually use us andhave all those answers there.
So let's go over it again To dofree SEO for your business, for
(11:20):
your small business, your bigbusiness, whatever.
We want to make sure that ourGoogle business profile is
updated.
You have it set there for free.
We want to make sure we use theright keywords.
That's on our content for ourwebsite.
That's going to be on socialmedia, that's going to be on any
kind of blog post that you haveand, again, google has a Google
free keyword planner.
(11:42):
That's what you want to use andlook up the keywords that
people are using in your area.
The third one is making sureour website is actually Google
friendly.
So we have our mobile friendly,we have internal links, we have
our titles, our metadescriptions easy stuff like
that.
The fourth one is creatingsimple, seo friendly content,
(12:02):
which makes, again on ourwebsite, our blog posts.
We have our landing pages withour city and state on it, as
well as answering any questionsbefore people actually reach out
to us, because, again, we arethat resource for the product or
service that we offer ourclient.
And the last one is gettinglisted on local directories and
also writing guest posts orbeing on podcasts or anything
(12:25):
like that.
It's always great to have yourwebsite on other links and other
pages and other websites, sothat way.
It's always being searchedthrough on Google and they see
like, oh, that person actuallyis really credible, like that's
nice, okay.
So how do you actually know ifthis SEO is working?
Roi in marketing is veryimportant to me and as well as
(12:46):
it is for my clients.
I want to make sure, like, thisis the time, this is the effort
, this is the money we'respending to this actual area of
marketing.
So how do we actually know whatour return of investment is?
My favorite tool to use isGoogle Analytics.
It's 100% free.
You can set up your accountbehind your Google business
profile and then you can runthose analytics.
(13:09):
I say every 30 days because ifwe look at it every day, it's a
little overwhelming, but if youdo it every 30 days, you can
kind of compare it and see like, okay, well, I did this this
month and I did this that month,so see what's working, what's
not working and what you canadjust for the future.
So this is literally theeasiest thing to do to build
your business online.
I have had four people ask me inthe last week on meetings that
(13:29):
want to do work with me what'sthe fastest way for me to turn
business around online, orwhat's the easiest thing for us
to have you do to make us havemore leads?
Or people call us or peopleclick on our website.
I keep hearing the terms easyfast, want it tomorrow, I want
free leads and ultimately, marketing is all about the long
(13:54):
game and there's nothing thatyou can do.
That's like you know what,tomorrow I'm gonna be a
millionaire, unless you go viralon a product.
That's always possible Notreally tangible, but it's
something that can happen.
But also we want to make surethat you understand and you need
to kind of comprehend andunderstand that marketing for
(14:14):
your business takes time and italso takes a lot of different
areas to market in.
I'm going to always say this forthe rest of my entire life the
number one marketing way isin-person and referral based.
So let's say that you havepeople that have referred you to
a friend or family and they goand leave a Google review.
Well then, people read thatGoogle review because you've
(14:37):
been working on your SEO andthey go oh well, that's cool.
Well, technically that can beconsidered a referral.
But ultimately we want peoplereferring other people to us
because the way that we treatthem in a good way, the way that
our product helps them, thatkind of stuff.
So the number one marketing wayis always going to be referral
based and having people use youbecause their friends or family
(15:00):
have used you, and in-personnetworking is going to help with
that.
So, to help with all thein-person referral, and if
people hear about you, we wantto make sure that your website's
up to date.
Your social media is up to date.
It's engaging.
It's something that's good forSEO.
So don't overcomplicate it.
Don't spend thousands ofdollars.
And people think I'm crazy whenI tell them you can literally do
(15:20):
this on your own.
They're like.
They're like well, aren't youlike taking money away from
yourself?
Absolutely not.
Like.
I want you to be able to havethe power to do this on your own
, be able to grow it on your own, because you know your product
better than any person in thisentire world.
You know your service betterthan them.
You have your own mission.
You have your own values.
Like.
You have that personal touchthat no marketing agency can
(15:41):
actually help you with, or atleast be able to comprehend and
then turn that into words.
So you are gonna be the bestperson to do your SEO for free.
And if you don't have thetechnical skills to do it, then
that's when you can partner withsomeone like me who understands
that you know more than I doand I'm just here on the
technical side of it, trying toportray to your clients of what
(16:03):
that mission is and what yourvalues are and what you really
want to give your client.
So go out this week, make a plan.
Do this on a Friday night, doit on a Saturday.
If this is a side hustle, thendo it on the weekend.
Or if you have a couple oftimes to carve out in your
schedule this week, just trysome of these SEO tips for 30
days.
That's all I ask.
(16:23):
Do it for 30 30 days.
Go back and look at your GoogleAnalytics, see how it's working
for you, and then do it another30 days, and then another 30
days, and then really seeyourself ranking higher and
higher on Google and watch thosecalls, come in and watch people
actually do more business withyou because they're finding you
through Google and then they'releaving you reviews and it's
(16:45):
just.
It's a really cool thing to seewhenever my clients are
watching this and actuallyseeing it unfold in front of
them, front of their eyes, andworking for them.
So I know you can do it.
I believe in you.
Go out, do the SEO for yourbusiness and you will not regret
it.
I'll catch you on the next one.
