50. The West Port Murders

William Burke and William Hare were the original bodysnatchers. They were responsible for 16 murders over a 10-month period in Scotland in which they had worked out a deal with Doctor Richard Knox. Knox would pay them anywhere from eight to 10 pounds for each cadaver they brought to them. When their final victim was discovered in Burke’s lodging house, they tried to bribe the couple who found the body but thankfully this couple went to the police and reported them. What happened next is shrouded in macabre and mystery.
