Timber Construction Podcast for2024.
Looking forward to 2025 andbringing you a fifth year, fifth
consecutive year of bringingyou news from all over the world
in mass timber constructionland every week, plus interlude

Hopefully we'll get some morethis year.
It's been a very busy year totry and line people up, but we
will do our best for next year.
Let's have a look at what'smaking news around the world for
the last week of 2024 in masstimber construction land.
And the big news this week iscoming out of Japan with

construction photos of the GrandRing, a vast wooden structure
that will encircle the pavilionsat the upcoming 2025 Osaka Expo
.
The photos reveal the progressof the 60,000 square meter
structure, which is being builton an artificial island
specifically for the Expo,according to the event

organizers using the gluelaminated timber to create this
two kilometer long, 700 metercircumference grand ring.
The intended purpose of thisring is to serve as a symbol of
unity for the 161 participatingcountries at the expo.

The expo brings everyonetogether, different countries
that stay there for six months,and the format is very precious,
especially in the crisis of theglobal situation that we're
currently in.

Speaking of ominous structures,the Sydney Fish Market, the new

Sydney Fish Market from 3XN, hastopped out in Australia with a
700 square foot building,becoming the largest fish market
to have a large glulam roofstructure in the most impressive
way.
This is the largest structurein the southern hemisphere.
Its pv panel roof is calibratedto withstand high winds while

meeting the spatial demandsrequired by the fish market, and
it's held in place by 594 beamsthat are capable of harvesting
rainwater across the roofstructure to bring a supply of
water to the people that areusing the fish markets.

And a landmark announcement inVietnam's first structural
timber association which hasbeen licensed in Vietnam.
The years of advocacy by thepeople who run this particular

organization have started to payoff, including an ex-colleague
of mine named Neil.
Neil Dodonsky has worked tocreate the structural architect
wood association of Vietnam andit's now received its official
government license.
A ceremony attended to byindustry officials marked the
significant step forward todevelop a thriving mass timber

sector in Vietnam.
All of the board of directormembers extended the deepest
gratitude to SaigonConstructions and Building
Materials Association for theirinvaluable endorsement of the
particular association.

The University of Grass and theInstitute of Timber Technology
and Wood Technology have cometogether with Kauffman, bell
Systems and KS Engineering, whohave developed a system for

modular wooden high-risebuilding which is designed with
the purpose of extending itsoperating life and lifespan.
Thanks to flexible adaptability, the operating life and
lifespan of buildings is oftenfar apart, and it is due to the
proprietary of long andfit-for-purpose systems that
when they're demolished theywould unfortunately be damaged

and individual parts in theentire system usually cannot be
reused.
Well, this new Mohoho system,the Mohoho project, has now
called for patent andapplication for the applied
systems.
You can go and have a look atthese unique connection systems

a look at the patented system.
And back to Australia and asmall town near the Ski Alps in
New South Wales, which is thecity area, is Sydney the New
South Wales is the state, justto get your bearings and a

little place called Jindabyneand they have a library and
community centre building and itis in the Snowy Mountains and
it is a beautiful location ifyou've ever gone there for
camping, hiking, fishing, skiing, etc.
The library rests on robuststone plinths and paying a
deliberate homage to the ruggedgranite formations in the nearby

mountains, and the localarchitecture now uses the stone
as a podium to mimic themountain landscape and using
prefabricated CLT panels tocreate the structure from an
interior finish of theparticular library.
I believe Nick Hewson was oneof the engineers on the project

(06:56):
at Abraalus, and it is animpressive building.
