The Old Guard - Core Members
Evie – Former Navy or still associated with the Navy. Disciplined, no-nonsense, but warm once you get to know her. She takes charge of organizing the group’s efforts and has strong leadership skills.
Donna – A former principal. Calm under pressure, methodical, and sees problems as puzzles to be solved logically. A natural organizer who keeps the group on track.
Rita – A nurturing and empathetic caretaker, quick to offer comfort or support. She has a pet parakeet named Daisy, which she believes has a knack for helping solve cases (even if it’s just a coincidence).
Clara – A historian or researcher with a deep interest in local lore. Insightful and often draws connections between historical mysteries and current cases. She owns Sir Winston, a dignified terrier.
Recurring Side Characters
Polly – Mentioned in relation to her stroller, possibly a small dog or child. Often present but not central to the group's actions.
Mabel – A sweet baby or small child, possibly in Donna’s care, who adds warmth and a family feel to the group.
Daisy – Rita’s pet parakeet. Known for spontaneous chirps and serenades that sometimes “startle” new clues into existence, at least in Rita’s mind.
Sir Winston – Clara’s terrier. Well-behaved and dignified, adding a touch of charm to the group.
Supporting Cast in the Mystery
Maisie Meadows – Makes a cameo appearance. High school English teacher and amateur sleuth from the Maisie Meadows series. Known for her sharp literary insights and love for Waffles, her corgi.
Waffles – Maisie’s corgi, who occasionally joins the Old Guard’s investigations.
