Speaker 1 (00:11):
There was quite the marathon where the Mariners were able
to pull off the game five w against the Tigers
in fifteen innings, and they used three different starters. They
used every single picture that they've ever had in their
organization all in one game.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Kudos to them.
Speaker 1 (00:26):
I'm doing a video where I'm going through that thing
moment by moment. I'm going to talk about that stuff,
so I know a lot of you guys want to
hear that. That's again a little bit into the future.
A lot of little videos that have been I've been
working on behind the scenes, so expect a ton of
that stuff to come out in the next couple weeks.
That said, that put them in a position to then
have to go. So the game ended at ten pm
(00:48):
Pacific time on the West Coast, where the Mariners then
had to fly across the country to Toronto, have their
day off, and then play play another game against Toronto
Blue Jays with one pitcher that was on three three
days rest. Now, fortunately Bryce Miller was on three days
rest after throwing fifty pitches, so in my opinion, that's
(01:11):
like full rest because you didn't throw that much and
stop wanting no. He was great, but that's all they had,
they couldn't. Henry producer Henry in the other room texting me.
He goes, hey, like, I just I don't think this
is even a game we can even win. I'm like,
this is one of those situations where you have to
steal the win. You got to go out and you've
(01:31):
got to find a way to win it. If you
can steal it, bring it back from a rested team.
When you're not rested, someone steps up in some way,
and that someone was Bryce Miller. But it didn't look
like that that way right away. So they did, in
my opinion, the Mariners went and they stole game one
from a very good, rested team that on paper lines
up very well against him. Now there's still six games
(01:53):
to play in the series potentially, so like, I'm not
jumping to any conclusions here, but they did the first
thing they needed to do and it was very, very
impressive in the way they did it. So we had
cal Rawly hit a solo homer as he tends to
do in the Rogers Center because this is the ninth
time he is hit a home run in fourteen games played,
(02:13):
which is crazy. That guy loves hitting in Canada. He
went down and got a the patent and splitter from
Kevin Gosman that hitters were zero for sixteen so far
in the playoffs against caught it with that torpedo barrel
and took it way back one of those ones where
as soon as he hit it, I was like, oh no,
uh oh, it went way way back over the bullpen
(02:35):
and was a huge boost in a game where they
were down one nothing. The reason they were in down
one nothing is because this gentleman, George Springer, doing very
similar move, hit the first pitch he saw in the
game over the fence. Now, this is something I want
to talk about a little bit, because there was a
collective oh god, like in Seattle.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
When it happened. That is where I live.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
If he didn't know at what I understand, I understand
like you just played a marathon. You're like, okay, we
got to find a way to scrape by this win.
And the first pitcher guy throws as a homer. What
I saw on that was a missed location. But I
saw ninety seven out of Bryce Miller, So like I
was like, Bryce looks like he feels good, So that's
a good sign. Like that's what So I was like, Oh,
(03:22):
that's just what George Springer does. That is just what
George Springer does.
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
He hits the first pitch of the game out a lot.
He hits a homer to the leadoff games all the time.
To be specific, he's done it sixty three times in
his career, second all time behind only Ricky Henderson. And
he's said it three times in the playoffs. To show
you how kind of rare that is. This is the
first time anyone's done it for the Blue Jays ever,
(03:46):
first pitch of it of a game. Actually, I think
it's believe it's the first leadoff homer in any count,
let alone the first pitch of the game. So the
tone was set. But unfortunately for the Blue Jays, they
didn't get another hit. Their next hit was Santander single
in the second and then nothing for the rest of
the game. Bryce Miller settled down, man. He threw twenty
(04:08):
seven pitches, okay, started to giving lead off homer and
then a twelve pitch walk to Lucas. That is one
when I said they need to go steal it. This
mental exhaustion that every single Levere, every single pitcher on
the Mariners has felt for the last. I don't know
the whole series. Frankly against Detroit is they're like, oh god,
(04:31):
here we go again. It's very very hard not go,
oh god, We're only going to get three out of
Bryce Miller. Everyone in that bullpen was like, how are
we going to cover this game? Like how are we
going to get to the end? Let alone win? And
then he settled down. I walked away. I went for
a walk with my family after dinner. Come back. It
was the fifth inning already, and Bryce was going into
(04:52):
the inning with like.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Fifty two pitches, so.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
He threw twenty five in the next in the next
three and three plus innings, which is exactly what you needed.
He looked really good, the splitter guy going towards the end,
and they were able to do a pass the baton
game for the pitchers. And what I mean by that
is six innings, seventh goes to Spire, eighth goes to Brash,
ninth munnos. No one needs to throw multiples, no ups
(05:16):
and downs, no nothing.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
You are just.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
You're just handing the baton off and feeling good about it.
And that's exactly what they needed and they were able
to do it. So I mean just a just an
electric game, electric way, another continuation of everything that's happened
to Mariners and something that I don't think Blue Jays
fans or anyone else really expected. We have another guy, though,
(05:43):
we need to discuss because he is becoming quite the
folk hero here at Seattle.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
That's this man, Jorge Palonto.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
He was the gentleman who hit the game winning single
off of Tommy Kinley in the fifteenth inning of that game.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
And that's not his only big hit.
Speaker 1 (05:59):
These are I believe he has six hits actually in
the playoffs so far.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
These are this is every single one of his hits.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
He had a homer off Terrek Scooble, then he had
another homer off Terrek Schooble, then he had a single
off Kyle Finnigan. And also in the Alds Game one,
it was the only hit he's had that is in
an RBHI, and then in game five. This might not
be all of this hits. There might become more in
there that that could be a lie, So just we'll
(06:26):
fix it in post. In the fifteen he had the
fifteen inning walk off single like I already mentioned, and
then he had the six inning RBI single to take
the two to one lead after cal hit that home run,
and then in the eighth he added some insurance with
a three to one to take three to one with
another single hitting someone in. I believe it was Julio
at that time. So he's become the guy that they
(06:48):
can count on. And from going from a huge disappointment
that very few Marinus fans wanted to resign, they have
gotten big production at a horror Hipoloca for a very
good year, and having been his teammate for seven years,
I can tell I can say there's no one that
is more prepared to do this stuff, and it couldn't
(07:09):
happen to a better guy. So I'm happy for Jorge
even if this is all that he ends up doing
in the playoffs. He has been He's truly having his
kind of career hero type moment and I enjoy it.
I just hope you can keep it coming because.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
This is awesome.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
So so that's how the first game win is now
one zero Mariners.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
We have another game coming up today.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
So here's my predictions going in and this was what
my prediction. Honestly, my prediction maybe changed one game. I
thought it might go as as seven, but now I'm
choosing to believe it'll go six. And I have the
Seattle Mariners going to their first World Series because I'm
biased and I'm a Homer, and I want it to
(07:52):
happen really badly watching the game the other night, watching
you know what, I'm just going to be unapologetic about
it because guess what.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
Predictions are creat shoots.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
It's just guesses right the way I feel, just as
someone who played for none of the teams that are
in it right now, like, I think they're all compelling
stories for different reasons. The Brewers obviously are exciting. We
will talk about that in a moment. The Blue Jays
are the blue Jays haven't won in a long time.
Everyone outside of the Dodgers. The Dodgers are the least
(08:21):
fun story out of all of this, Like one of
the other three teams would be more fun to have
as a World Series champ.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
But I have the Mariners moving on for too.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
I have cal Rawley being their MVP because the Toronto
Blue Jays cannot figure out cal Rawley.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
They just can't do it, and he's scary on his own.
Speaker 1 (08:40):
But like there's something about it, man, There's something about
Toronto which four of the seven games will be there
if it ended up going to a seventh game. He
just loves it there and he's up for the big moment,
and he just he wants to win so badly.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
So I'm gonna give them the benefit. I don't.
Speaker 1 (08:56):
There's no way the Blue Jays go down quietly. There's
no way this is a domin situation. It's just not
the way these teams are set together. I just think
this Mariner's pitching staff, they're bending and not breaking. They're
everyone just seems so composed and under control.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
What blew me away.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Was was was Castillo and Gilbert like how like they
were just like I was like, this is this is
exactly what you need. So that's that's what I got.
I got the Mariners. Let's just get this up there.
I got the Mariners taking it forward to two boom
(09:32):
Seattle Mariners move on to the World Series.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
KP.
Speaker 3 (09:37):
We both love Omaha steaks. My latest order six private
reserve filet mignons. It sounds bougie because it is. They
were fantastic and also one and a half pounds of
jumbo cooked shrimp with a big initial discount and then
an additional thirty five bucks off with the code foul.
You have been a long time Omaha Steaks guy too.
Speaker 2 (09:59):
Yeah. Back in college, I would always order steaks. I'd
put them in my freezer.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
And that's the reason I bulked up is because I
always had fresh steaks in my freezer, ready to.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Go, delicious protein, Get after it. Okay, it is the
best in the biz. If you're ordering steaks online, you
can say big with Omaha Steaks. Visit Omaha Steaks dot
com for fifty percent off site wide and an extra
twenty percent off select favor during their early Black Friday sale,
and for an extra thirty five dollars off, use promo
code foul at checkout. Terms apply see site for details.
(10:32):
That's fifty percent off at Omaha Steaks dot Com promo
code foul at checkout.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
All right, let's go to the next series here. That
is the La Dodgers versus the team they have not
beaten one time this year, the fighting Milwaukee Brewers. That's true.
Milwaukee Brewers are six and oh versus the Dodgers in
twenty twenty five in the regular season.
Speaker 2 (10:56):
Full sweep, and they got their first sweep of them
at home.
Speaker 1 (11:00):
Ever, so that just goes to show you how these
two teams line up. I think this is as interesting
of a matchup as I've ever seen because of the
nature of how they're put together. All Right, so let's
do a little preview on the Dodgers versus Brewers and
LCS Game one. You can watch it today at eight
around I believe it's eighth eight now eight oh eight
(11:23):
Eastern time on TBS, True TV and HBO Max. And
it will be in Milwaukee because they have the best
record and so they have home field of Vanagh Vers
do there?
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Day off four, three, day off two?
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Okay, So on the Dodgers side, it's this gentleman, Blake
Snell taking a game, taking the ball in Game one.
One of the stingiest hitter giver uppers, hit giver uppers,
one of the stingiest pitchers when it comes to hits
that there is in the league. Pitching against a team
(11:56):
that gets a lot of hits and doesn't strike out
a lot and plays small ball really well.
Speaker 2 (12:00):
So this is kind of an.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
Immovable object, unstoppable for situation where something has to give.
Blake Snell is very hard to string hits together. There
are a good number of lefty sticks over there in
Milwaukee that aren't going to match up very well with
this guy. And he has been nails pretty much for
the last six or seven starts. He's been nails, like
unhittable type of nails, lock it down type of nails.
(12:24):
So this is going to be a major strikes. The
Dodgers are going to have to rely really heavily on
their starting pitcher because on the other side, there's some
question marks, for example, starting Game one, because for the Brewers,
because they had to go into five with the Cubs,
there's a chance we see Quinn Priester take the start.
Hasn't didn't really work out last time, but we saw
(12:45):
with Matt Boyd flip around and put up some good innings.
The second time around, the same thing can happen. It's
a different opponent. But right now they're rocking Freddy Peralta,
Quinn Priester, and then a bunch of bullpen guys with Mizerowski.
Speaker 2 (12:58):
And there's gonna be a lot of names to say
in this in this breakdown, a.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Lot Aaron Ashby, like they're just kind of getting multiple
innings out of a bunch of guys, not having Brandon
Woodruff is.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Sucks.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
It would be a big help, but they have you know,
they have Kintana who can eat innings and get a
start here and there.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
He's been a proven bullpen or not.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
A playoff starting pitcher as well, So how the starting
pitchering lined up a linesup is going to be interesting.
I think with Brandon Woodroff here this is a much
clearer picture. But unfortunately he is he is down so
game two though it looks like it's gonna be Freddy Peralta.
They're gonna lean very heavily on him. So there are
some injuries to pay attention to as well. We have
(13:42):
Will Smith. He is now back from his hairline fraction
on his right hand. He put up a couple of
hits against the Phillies and looks to be ripe and
ready to go, even though he didn't get any rehabit
and he didn't do anything. Just win to a playoff
game straight up like Starling Martin did in twenty twenty
two and just started raking.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Tanner.
Speaker 1 (14:01):
Scott is ineligible for the NLCS. I didn't actually know
this after i'mgoing an absess decision, but could return if
the Dodgers advanced that's interesting. That explains why he didn't
pitch before. I don't know exactly what that means. But unfortunately,
Brandon Woodruff, like I just mentioned, is also out for
the NLCS, so they won't have these guys for them.
(14:21):
But I mean, Tanner Scott hasn't pitched yet. Will Smith
is back and they need him behyd the play, especially
with Ben Roordvelt being exclusively a left handed stick now
they have more options there. So the Dodgers are well
positioned to go and put together a good game. But
I want to see what the Brewers offense is able
to muster against two big strikeout guys, not just one.
(14:43):
He's a big strikeout guy and so is Tyler Glass.
Now it's not like Yoshinobu Yamamoto isn't either, So these
guys are probably the best three he could possibly have
for any team in starting rotation. So it's it's gonna
be really interesting to see how they put together and
stream together hits like they against the Cubs, who arguably
not arguably definitely do not have the pitching that the
(15:05):
Dodgers have. How do you string hits against these guys?
And how do you get deeper? How do you get
them out of the game quickly, because that's what it's
going to come down to. If you're if you think
you're going to go out and get eleven hits against
Break Snell, Blake Snell, You're just not going.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
To like it. It's a it's.
Speaker 1 (15:21):
If you try, it's gonna probably go worse than it
would have had you not tried. So it's going to
be about pitch counts going up. That is one thing
that has been his weakness in the past, and that
is definitely a tired glass now's weakness not helping these
guys out. Uh, there's a thing we're going to get
into a little bit later in the show about how
the role that pressure plays in strategy in the playoffs.
(15:42):
That is what they're gonna need. They're going to need
to put pressure on the pitchers without hoping that they're
going to just like putting up a six spot is
a nice you know, is everything going really well and
then making a lot of mistakes. But if they're dialed in,
the least you can do is get them out as
soon as humanly possible, especially when the Dodgers are an
organization that is willing to pull their starters quickly, and
(16:04):
we've seen their bullpen. They have Roki Sasaki right now.
That's just about it, and she's been good. But like
and Machian might need to start now, we'll have to wait,
wait and see. So let's talk about who's hot and
who I think is going to play the biggest roles
moving forward. Here there's will Smith, he is healthy, thank god.
William Petreros, he's hot. He hit three hundred in the
(16:27):
NLDS with a pair of tie breaking home runs. I
saw them both very impressive, one of which was off
one hundred. Him and Jackson Cheerio have been putting on
a clinic putting the ball over the fence when a
lot of question marks around the Brewers were will be
able to put upon the over the fence. So I'm
looking at William Conturro's in this series. He has won
a World Series. He knows what it's like. So he's
(16:47):
got the experience and he's got the temperament. I think
he could be a big part of this. Mookie Betts
has carried his hot end regular season into the postseason.
He's ten for twenty six. Now he's hitting three eighty five.
They're gonna hope for a lot out of Mookie that's
in this series, especially with how they're gonna probably really
try to handle O Tani like the Phillies very much
handle Ottani, and they're gonna try to handle Freddie Freeman
(17:09):
left he's lefties. He's gonna Mookie's gonna face a lefty
and Mooki can hit lefties. Is if that's your poison're
gonna pick. Mookie needs to then become the guy that
is beating them, not just hitting a double or single
here and there, like getting people in, being a problem
that they have.
Speaker 2 (17:23):
To worry about over those other two guys. I'm looking
for that.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
And October Key k Hernandez is back. He's seven to
twenty two and he's got four RBIs and scored five runs.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
So, uh, surprise, Heyk's back.
Speaker 1 (17:35):
So it's it's it's gonna be interesting. So the things
that are super important to me to watch, uh, at
least from the the Dodgers lineup, how Mooki is handled,
how Taioscar is handled, okay, and then what can they
get from the back part of the lineup. Uh, where's
(17:57):
Kik playing and where's he hitting? And what's Tommy Edmund
going to be doing with the switch hitting, Like, where
can they create these three run homer opportunities? Because the
Brewers are going to score runs and they're going to
pepper the ball around the field, especially at home. They're
gonna that's what they're gonna do. So how do you
counteract that? So let's talk about the Brewers a little bit.
(18:17):
In their lineup. I think William Contrero is gonna be
a big part of their ability to score runs, but
not the whole thing. My person that I think is
going to make the biggest impact, and he he hit
that big kind of bury him put him away home
run the other day is Bryce Trang. That guy has
become a leader in that lineup. He is a He
(18:38):
puts together a good at bat almost almost all the time.
That is a theme in this lineup. They just they
put together good at bats. They grind out at bats,
very similar to the Blue Jays, and I expect that
to have it. But I'm paying attention to Bryce Treng
being the difference maker, the one that can get people
in him, Jackson Cruio and William Patreros being big parts
of that. With the soft freelicks of the world and
(18:58):
a lot of the platoon were uh role players, taking
the extra base making, making the play, making sure that
every defensive play that should be made is being made,
to put these guys in positions.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
It's just they can't strike out.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
If we see a lot of strikeouts to the Burrs,
that would be a big red light.
Speaker 2 (19:16):
Going off of my head. But it's not something they've done.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
All they've done all year and they've handled the Dodgers,
so there's no reason to think that, you know, they
would start losing to him now after they're six and
oh during during the season. And on the other side,
is show going to show up? Are we gonna see
a show Hey a.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Tony at all?
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Because we didn't see him in the Phillies Phillies series
at all. We did as a starting pitcher, and I
didn't even mention show Hey as a starting pitcher. Right
with the Almamoto and them show he's out out there
as well. Another guy who does his stingy on hits
and doesn't like to let you guess Pepperham around the field,
so and he can feel his position, so we'll see
(19:53):
you can't just Kerrek scoogle him and Bun all the
time and hope.
Speaker 2 (19:57):
That he's gonna make a make a make a mistake.
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Also another guy who's called as Andy Pyaz. But you know,
at the end of the day, if your center fielder
is making his playing the defense, then you're happy with that.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
He just hasn't been.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Really really hasn't been putting good together good abs. So
we'll have to wait and see what happens there. So
let's give you my predictions for how I think this
series is gonna go very serious. Similar to the last one,
who wins Dodgers versus Brewers? I got four to two
Milwaukee Brewers move on to the World Series, and we
have a Seattle versus Milwaukee market powerhouse head to head
(20:36):
matchup between two teams that started in Seattle and two
teams that.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Have not won the World Series. Wouldn't that be fun?
Wouldn't that be fun?
Speaker 1 (20:51):
I'll be honest, there's not a lot of there's not
a lot of outcomes here.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
I think that aren't fun.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
So I think the rest of the rest of the
playoffs are gonna be awesome no matter what.
Speaker 2 (21:00):
I'm just gonna be a little biased.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
I'm gonna be a little biased, and there is a
part of me that always is going to pray for uh,
pray for a little for something that's never happened before
to happen, and that's what would happen in this situation.
Interesting though, would the Mariners ever wear their throwback jerseys
because they have the same color scheme. I don't know,
(21:22):
I don't know, but it's pretty fun, pretty fun. The
verse used to be the Portland Pilots if you are
not Portland pilots, sorry, the Seattle Pilots if you did know,
for two years named after Bowen So and then the
MVP of the series is Bryce Trang. Like I mentioned before,
he's the one who does the damage. And it could
be Freddy per Alta if we get two nails outings.
(21:42):
But I have a feeling this is going to be.
This is gonna be a position player MVP situation. Not
definitely not not pictures Hey,
