I drop three videos a week on "The Buccaneers" Season 2! Don't miss my next episode preview and theory/discussion videos!

From ‪Apple TV+‬: In the first season of “The Buccaneers," a group of fun-loving young American girls exploded into the tightly corseted London of the 1870s…setting hearts racing and kicking off an Anglo-American culture clash. Now the Buccaneers are no longer the invaders - England is their home. In fact they’re practically running the place. Nan is the Duchess of Tintagel, the most influential woman in the country. Conchita is Lady Brightlingsea, heroine to a wave of young American heiresses. And Jinny is on every front-page, wanted for the kidnap of her unborn child. All of the girls have been forced to grow up and now have to fight to be heard, as they wrestle with romance, lust, jealousy, births and deaths... themes consuming all women of any age, no matter what year it is. Last time we got a taste of England. This time we’re in for a veritable feast.

(00:00):
Welcome to media, Melanie talks TV.
I'm Melanie, and today I'm back to talk about The Buccaneers
season 2 on Apple TV Plus. In this video, I will react to
and review episode 4 called Ice Cream, which, let's face it,
could have probably been called Gelato, but that's neither here
nor there. One of the things this show has
done so well this season is maintaining strong momentum and

(00:21):
pacing. This episode is no exception.
In fact, I don't think any of these episodes have really been
filler or fluff. We've had things happening in
every single episode. This one kicks off with
literally a bang. Bleachers modern girls.
I love bleachers. Jack Antonoff is actually one of
Taylor Swift's producers. He is so incredibly talented.

(00:43):
I've seen bleachers live. They put on such a great show.
I plan to see them again in October.
Theo with the dancing giving these Tom Cruise inspired
dancing vibes. Could not be more here for all
of this. But Speaking of Theo, was
anybody else shocked that we gotthe Theo and Lizzie love scene

(01:03):
so early in the season? I guess we are halfway through,
but I guess I was expecting a slower build where maybe in the
finale they end up getting together.
I was thinking this was going tobe a little bit of a slower
burn. Maybe in the finale they would
end up finally getting together after a few innocent kisses here
and there. But no, they gave us all of the

(01:24):
love scene and wow was it steamy.
It is interesting about the pacing of the Lizzie and Theo
storyline because I didn't pick up on any Theo and Lizzie
attraction back in season 1. So this pairing is a little bit
of a surprise, especially because we already have so many
love triangles going on with Nanand Guy and Theo.
And now we introduce this Lizzie, Theo and Hector

(01:46):
situation. And something I've been seeing
in the Reddit threads and the commentary on the show is why do
we keep making these women cheaton these good guys?
And that is a good question. But at the same time, the
Buccaneers takes place in the 1870s.
Young people did not have the luxury of dating and getting to
experience life the way we do now.

(02:07):
There is a pressure from societyfor people to get married.
So in a way they are all a little bit emotionally immature,
haven't experienced a lot of real long term relationships
like we do in the present day. So in a way who can blame them,
but at the same time, I mean, hey, I do not condone cheating,
but you also can't deny true passion and chemistry and

(02:28):
attraction, which is something that we are now seeing
definitely between Lizzie and Theo.
And I did a video before on whether or not Theo and Lizzie
are end game, and I'm starting to think that perhaps they are.
We'll get more into that later because lots of other things
happened as well, including our Guy and Nan reunion.

(02:49):
Did anybody else pick up on thatentitlement?
It's been months. She shows up and just expects
everything to fall into place. For a moment I thought for sure
we were going to learn that guy in Ginny or even maybe guy in
Paloma ended up hooking up. And I don't think that's the
fact. I think it is just a product of
the time that has passed and Guyprobably feeling a little bit of

(03:11):
resentment for leaving the womanhe loved just because she asked
and giving up on his entire life.
So for her to just show up and expect things to be normal and
they just hold hands and kiss like nothing happened, that is a
little bit out of touch. And I appreciated Guy calling
Man out at the end of this episode when she decides to go

(03:32):
back to England in order to helpthis bill get passed to help
protect her sister. So she shows up and there's that
hot and steamy kiss on the Cliff, which by the way, Paloma
witnesses. So I imagine there will be a
little bit of fallout from that because she thinks Jenny and Guy
are married. But then they have that very
sexy night together. I've been waiting for that for
so long. And I think both of these

(03:53):
characters have as well. So for her to just show up and
then decide to leave, the world does not revolve around you,
Nan. And yes, you do have this voice
as a Duchess, But if you're justgoing to be off chasing men and
not taking this role seriously, it's one thing to pursue love
and find happiness with a soulmate.
And I do think man and guy coulddefinitely be soul mates, but

(04:15):
it's another thing to be wishy washy and expect everybody to
just fall in line with you. Jenny ends up sending them off
to go get milk. That was really funny.
She's like, oh, we're out of milk.
And they literally both pop up at the exact same time.
And they're like, oh, I'll get it.
They end up going off together, dancing in the streets at this
joyous wedding, having a grand old time, no cares in the world.

(04:37):
They end up talking about Theo having that kiss, having the
night together, and alas, she's going back to England.
But when Nan goes back to England, is she going to walk in
on a Theo and Lizzie together scene?
How is Nan going to react? I would imagine she's going to
be more upset with Lizzie than she is Theo because she

(04:58):
discarded Theo and their marriage to go choose Guy, but
Lizzie is her best friend. Lizzie is surely justifying this
because Nan told her that it wasGuy, so Lizzie's probably like
OK, the doors open here and things happen very fast to get
to this point. By halfway through the season,
as I mentioned, I was expecting that to be more of a season
ending cliffhanger. This is all happening before the

(05:20):
wedding to Hector. Hector was hosting this charity
auction in order to get support for this bill and Theo shows up
and essentially steals the show.Doctors not very happy about
that and I think he's picking upon some sort of vibes
potentially between him and Lizzie.
Especially because he says to her, are you happy?
Lizzie is lying to him. Lizzie is lying to herself.

(05:42):
She's pulling a full on Nan hereand goes running to Theo.
I thought this would be more of an innocent kiss here, innocent
kiss there, a little make out session in the corner.
But again, we get the full on sex of it all.
And wow, I was just so drawn to the scene, the passion, the
chemistry. That scene was just 10 out of

(06:04):
10. I know there's a lot of people
who are not happy about the Lizzie and Theo.
You know what? I get that.
But isn't it kind of juicy afterseeing them together like that?
That is the type of passion thatI see between Nan and Guy.
I don't mind Lizzie and Theo being together, but I do wonder
now that they're both sleeping with different people and there

(06:25):
is this focus on producing an air and Nan calling out the fact
that she might be used as a vessel in order to do so.
Could Lizzie end up pregnant with an illegitimate tentaggial
air and Nan end up pregnant withGuy's baby?
How will that all shake out? Would they accept an
illegitimate air? I would imagine if Nan and Guy

(06:48):
had a baby together it may have a darker complexion.
I don't think anybody will buy that.
Is Theo's baby and Lizzie pregnant?
Everybody will assume it's Hector's baby.
Could they just send Nan and Lizzie together on this little
secret vacation where they birththeir babies and come back and
pass Lizzie's baby off as an authentic heir?

(07:11):
That introduces a whole nother situation and is also a call
back to the fact that Nan is an illegitimate child.
But not only that, but her biological mom is Patty's
sister. Just when I think things are
getting scandalous, they drop another crazy storyline on us.
So I don't put anything past this show in terms of what we

(07:32):
can expect because halfway through the season we've already
got quite a bit. And at this point, how is it
going to end? I think the next 4 episodes
should be equally as action-packed and fast-paced as
we've seen so far. Are we going to get a
cliffhanger at the end of the season and if so, what is that
going to look like? How is Lizzie and Hectors

(07:54):
wedding going to go with this big secret between Lizzie and
Theo? So many questions before I get
more into the review of episode 4 Ice cream, be sure to hit that
like button. Subscribe to my channel.
I am working so hard to become afull time content creator and
just by being here watching, liking, commenting, it puts me
one step closer. So seriously thank you to

(08:16):
everybody who tunes in with me every week.
I'm here with three Buccaneers videos, a review like this one
and next episode preview and then a theory and discussion
video. So don't miss any of those.
But also, I've got some other shows on my summer coverage
radar, including Extra Resurrection coming to Paramount
Plus with Showtime on July 11th.Can't wait for that and The

(08:37):
Institute, a brand new Stephen King adaptation starring Mary
Louise Parker. That one is going to be on MGM
Plus starting July 13th. But the one I'm really excited
for The Summer I turned Pretty season 3.
I just dropped a trailer review and what we can expect in season
3 with my friend Sherri Weiss ofTeen drama Whore.
Don't miss that. We get all into the team

(08:59):
Jeremiah, team Conrad, discuss the book adaptation a little
bit, the Taylor Swift of it all in the soundtrack, and lots
more. So catch that video.
And if you haven't watched The Summer I Turn Pretty yet and you
like the Buccaneers, highly recommend another big plot point
from this episode, Jenny and Lord Sedan.
He must have followed Nan and shows up on her literal Italian

(09:21):
doorstep. He's putting on a good show
pretending like oh we're fine, we can be one big happy family.
You don't need to be scared of me.
I don't buy the Sedan show for one second.
I think he is literally the worst.
Jenny was rightfully upset and surprised when he showed up on
the doorstep and he left the name of his hotel.
Was anybody else pissed off at Jenny for going to the hotel?

(09:45):
What is she doing? Nan went through all of this
trouble for her and she's just going to throw it all away by
going and placating Seton who chased her here and followed
her. She's going to let him be
introduced to their child as an abuser.
I don't know, this is actually really upsetting to me.
I don't want to see Jenny get back with him at all, but

(10:08):
perhaps this is the device that gets the group of them back to
England. Another question I have, will
Paloma end up coming with them? Why introduce the character if
she's going to end up just disappearing?
But at the same time, Paloma seeing Nan and Guy run off
together will obviously create alittle bit more dramatic tension
as well. But once she realizes that Nan

(10:30):
and Guy are actually the couple and that Ginny is with Seton and
was in hiding and they've been lying to her the whole time, I
don't think she's going to be very happy about that.
So that is yet another thing that we will have to see how it
shakes out. Do we think Ginny is just going
to forgive him and go back to normal life again?
I certainly hope not. What do you guys think?

(10:54):
Dropping in the comments, we've also got another love brewing
between Dowager and Hector's dad, Reed.
Never thought I would be so vested in a storyline of
Dowager. She really wasn't one of my
favorite characters. But there's just something so
young and innocent about their connection.
And I also appreciate that they are creating more of a storyline

(11:16):
with the older characters, creating more of a generational
interest in the show as a whole.I mean, hey, I'm in my mid 40s.
I have no shame in watching a young adult show at all, but on
the same token, really don't mind seeing these older adults
having the same sort of youthfullove and joy and feelings as
their younger counterparts, but experiencing it in a different

(11:37):
part of their life. So I hope that Dowager and Reid
are may be able to get together, although it seems like he will
be leaving and they could potentially have one final
evening together to the auction and champagne party.
I thought it was really funny when Inoria is sitting there
bidding on this face and Mabel'slike, hey, what are you doing?

(11:59):
Do you even have the money for this?
And Inoria is like giving no F. She's just unhinged bidding on
this item. The Theo ends up coming in and
buying and giving to her. And I understand why Hector is a
little bit upset at Theo coming to take the attention away from
the good that he is trying to dowith his role within the
government. Theo is acting completely

(12:20):
unhinged as well at the moment here and this garden party
spawns. What happens between Lizzie and
Theo? We also learned that Conchita
did in fact accept Mrs. Elmsworth double the fee offer
to set up her daughter Mabel. Unfortunately, this was
unsuccessful. She tried setting her up with

(12:41):
that Lord in that badminton gameand Mabel had no idea at first.
Anoria saw right through it fromthe beginning and is having some
jealous feelings. And really, who could blame her?
What will happen with this situation?
That interaction between Conchita and Mabel didn't go
well. Mabel is 1 of Conchita's oldest
friends and she's essentially making money off of her to pair

(13:03):
her off. And while Conchita doesn't yet
fully realize that Mabel is intowomen, and specifically her
sister-in-law, Anoria, she's going to end up finding out.
Because in the trailer, we did have that kiss scene.
And my video last week was actually about Mabel and Anoria
and whether or not they get a happy ending.
So don't miss that and all of the queer joy that comes along
with it. But things are not looking great

(13:25):
in terms of Mabel's pairing. If her mom is so dead set on
setting her up with a Lord, is she going to settle down with a
man? She turned down that opportunity
last season. I hope she stays true to
herself. But it does put Conchita in
quite the awkward position and Iwas actually a little bit
surprised that she took the money.
Granted, they need it. Conchita is doing everything she

(13:46):
can to dig her family out of debt and leave the charge so
that they can maintain their wealth and social standing.
As she said, before we had moneyand now we don't.
So things have changed and you got to do what you got to do
type of thing. Don't love this for Mabel
though. There were so many moments at
this garden party slash auction between Theo and Lizzie and

(14:10):
things really did start heating up quite fast.
It started out with a few glances here and there, then
they end up having that little talk and it all comes together
at the end into that steamy scene.
Now. Question for everybody, does it
seem like a little bit fast for all of this to be happening and
did you pick up on any vibes between Lizzie and Theo last

(14:31):
season? For me, I do think this might
have heated up a little too fasteven though I fully enjoyed
watching it. Like I said, I just expected it
to potentially be later in the season.
This could be setting up though, for Nan to come back and embed
herself in that situation and realize Theo and Lizzie are
together, yell at both of them when she really has no right to

(14:53):
what so, And I think that's going to bring out this entitled
nature of Nan even more. There's a lot of hatred in the
fandom for Nan, the way she acts, the way she treats her
friends and the men in her life.On one hand, I totally see that.
On the other hand, as I've mentioned, she is young.
She's thrust into this position of Duchess when it really wasn't

(15:13):
something on her radar. In fact, I think this week's
discussion video, Does Nan deserve all of this hate within
the fandom? Chime in in the comments and
give me some of your ideas. And why don't you let me know
right now in the comments where you stand with the Nan of it
all. And Nan had better return
relatively fast because how longcan they really fake that she

(15:34):
has a head cold and has not disappeared?
It does seem like she's on the way back there relatively
quickly, so probably nobody who's not in the loop with
things would have noticed that she's not out doing her normal
appearances. But things are going to really
hit the fan when she gets back. There were a few lines on this
episode that really struck me. First, when Guy says that Nan

(15:54):
can sleep in his bed and is basically treating her like any
average houseguest, I liked how it took a little bit of time for
Nan and Guy to reconnect and feel that passion again.
And I really do not blame Guy one bit for the way he treated
Nan and what he said to her at the end.
Because as he mentioned, was this just a holiday?

(16:15):
You just come down, have a tryst, throw everything away
there and expect me to just jumpright on the Nan train or
carriage. I guess I should say Guy feels
used and I don't blame him, but at the same time, after what he
did to Theo, Guy is also not really in a place to be
questioning or getting upset over anything, even if it is the

(16:36):
woman he loves. However, he did also give up his
entire life just because Nan asked him to.
So how long can Guy possibly sustain any sort of relationship
with Nan with the way that she is treating him?
Which begs the question, will Nan go back and try to reconcile
with Theo? Will Nan and Hector end up

(16:57):
together and guys not with Nan? Does that open the door for
another love interest for him? And if so, could that be Jenny
if she does not reunite with Sedan or Paloma if she comes
back with them? Like I said, why have the
character if she's not going to be involved in the storyline?
What if she comes back and guys got a girlfriend?
Lizzie and Theo are together andNana's just sort of left out

(17:18):
cold. You guys, the drama and scandal
that is about to ensue is peak Buccaneers and I'm so here for
it. I've got to say, all together
this show is making me emotionally spiral and I do not
care. There's nothing worse when shows
do have a lot of filler or fluffand this is just not one of
them. Between the scenes with Nan and

(17:40):
Guy and then Lizzie and Theo, just wow.
Loved this season so far and while it's not absolutely
perfect and it seems like they're throwing one love
triangle after another at us, itworks in the context of the show
and I really hope we end up getting a big cliffhanger and a
season 3. Give me more of the Buccaneers.

(18:01):
What did you guys think of this episode?
Drop it down in the comments. Now that we are getting more
context into these scandalous relationships, who are you
rooting for? Who are you against, and what
are you upset about? Because if you're on the Reddit
and on the Twitter, there's definitely a lot of conversation
around the introduction of the Lizzie and Theo of it all.
I personally love this main character energy that Lizzie is

(18:23):
giving. Just one more final thought as
well, with everything that Nan has done for her sister, putting
her sister first even before herown love interests, and now to
go back to England and throw Guyaway again because of something
related to Jenny. I hope that Jenny appreciates
this and respects her sister. I did like that she was trying
to thrust them back together when Nan showed up and get

(18:46):
things back to normal. As she said, whatever, whatever
you need to do, go fight it out, kiss it out, whatever it is.
But if she ends up going back toSeton after everything Nan has
done, I'm going to be pissed andvery vocal about it, and we'll
surely put out an entire video on that topic.
And I don't think I'm alone, right?
I'll be back again soon with more Buccaneers content,

(19:06):
including a preview video for Episode 5 called A Whole Love.
Does that mean we're going to get a wedding?
Does that mean we're going to get Nan and Theo back together
again? I've got questions and I'm going
to dive all into that and I willbe back with another theory and
discussion video that will be onthe hatred of Nan as a character
within this Buccaneers fandom. I really appreciate you tuning

(19:28):
in and as I mentioned, every single time you like or comment
and every subscription on my channel really puts me one step
closer to my ultimate goal of being a full time TV content
creator. And I just got endless
appreciation for everybody who is tuning in here with me.
As I mentioned, I'm going to be covering Dexter, Resurrection,
The Institute, the summer I turned pretty.
Don't miss my Season 3 trailer preview.

(19:50):
And of course, more Buccaneers. Thanks again for sticking with
me, Media. Melanie clicking off.
