Hello, hello and welcome

the Inspire Weight Loss Davypodcast.
I'm your co-host, jeremy Wolfe, and I'm joined, of course, by
your host, martha Savloff.
Martha, good to see you again.
Martha (00:26):
Thank you, good to see
you.
Jeremy (00:28):
Yeah.
So I know I've seen you've beenvery, very active in the social
media sphere and I see you guysare growing nicely.
I know you're.
I just saw a post that you'relooking for help.
You got a little help, wantedsign over there, so I wanted to
let everybody know that'slistening out there.
If you're looking for gainfulemployment, please reach out to
Martha Inspire Weight Loss, because they are growing rapidly
(00:51):
for sure.
Martha (00:52):
Yep, we are, and I'm
very grateful for that, and
we're going into the holidayseason, yes and so, yeah, what
we do in that goes hand in hand.
Jeremy (01:04):
Absolutely, absolutely.
So with that in mind, as theholidays approach, obviously
everybody is going to be doingsome serious, I guess, eating
consumption, and probably notthe most healthy of things.
But I know you had mentionedyou wanted to talk a little bit
about metabolism and how agingaffects that.
(01:27):
But before we start, for thosethat don't know, metabolism, as
defined by Wikipedia, is thisset of life-sustaining chemical
reactions in organisms.
So you're going to talk alittle bit about how aging
affects metabolism, so pleaseshare with us.
Martha (01:46):
We call it the M word in
I don't know weight loss,
because I mean metabolism.
The word of metabolism isthrown around so much and when
we see clients, they come in andthe first thing they say is,
like I think my metabolism is soslow.
And you know what?
(02:06):
There's some truth to that andso many, many people don't know
that there's four differentstages of the metabolic age.
So there's metabolism andthere's metabolic age.
So let me just kind of definethat real quick.
So, before getting into the fourstages, because most people
don't know that and that is oneof the metrics that we drill
(02:30):
down to when you come to inspire, as soon as you come in, we
look at your metabolic age andthen, when you're done with the
program, we look at it again andwe make sure that you're
burning to your natural age.
Okay, so I have a story aroundthat that I'll share after the
four stages.
But so, first and foremost, metabolic age.
It's really the calories yourbody is capable of burning while
(02:54):
that rests, and it's alsocompares to people in your age
group as well.
So that's metabolic age.
So I'm 48 years old.
My metabolic age should be atthe stage of a 48 year old,
right, but what we find is thatthat's not always the case.
(03:14):
When I was 42 years old, mymetabolic age was 86 years old.
Jeremy (03:20):
Really.
Martha (03:21):
Really, and I was.
You know that's not good right,because I'm supposed to be a 42
.
Now, before I go further inthat story, I wanna share the
four stages of the metabolic age.
Well, yeah, are you ready toget into it?
Jeremy (03:39):
I'm ready.
But may I just say, when yousay you're 48?
I'm just baffled by it becauseyou look a lot younger.
And I'm not just saying I knowflattery will get me everywhere,
but you, you must be doingsomething right at this point if
you're approaching 50 andyou're.
You know for those that arejust listening here, you know
(04:00):
Martha is up doing some greatwork and has a lot to share with
us.
So please, let's get into it.
Martha (04:06):
Thank you for that.
And I heard something thismorning that was so cool.
It was an influencer in thehealth world and he said you
know, god provided us everythingthat we need.
And it's so true.
And the reason why I you know Ilook younger, first of all
genes, my family, they all lookyounger than what they are and
(04:28):
second of all, food.
There's power in food andthere's power in, in, in
hydrating your body, so that allhas to do with that.
Anyways, moving forward, fourstages of the metabolic age and
some people are gonna say aha, because it's gonna make sense
Number one, the youthfulmetabolic age.
(04:51):
That's number one, and that'sthe ages between zero and 25
years old.
Okay, so this is when yourmetabolism is prime.
This is when you're in highschool and you're eating Wendy's
every day and you don't gainanything Because you're just
burning the heck out of thatWendy's.
You know you're proud of eatingpizza every single day and
(05:13):
nothing happens.
That's the youthful metabolicage.
But also, jeremy, it's alsowhen it's like the most
efficiently Burning food intoenergy and that's why you can
eat all that stuff and thenyou're still like super
energized and, you know, stayinggreat.
But the most important partabout this phase I want people
(05:35):
to hear is that this is a phasethat you actually set the future
of the of your, your health.
So what does that mean?
You literally established howhealthy your met, your metabolic
or your metabolism, is going tobe For your future at this
stage.
(05:55):
So the reason why it'simportant to know is because
most of the time when you havelittle ones yeah, one year old,
two year old, three year old, four year old, five year old
people people love to feed thosefor kids, sugar and tons of
like over processed foods andyou know all these types of
(06:15):
foods that we're trying not toeven.
We're older, right.
Yeah that's when you're eatingthe most of it, but that's
actually when they shouldn't be,because you're setting how
their body's going to functionfor their future.
It's that important.
So that's stage number one.
(06:35):
So what do you think about that, jeremy?
Did you know all that?
Jeremy (06:40):
It makes.
It makes a lot of sense, obviously, setting the speaking
about any Habits throughout lifeand setting the stage.
It just becomes increasinglymore difficult.
The older you get, the more setin your ways you are.
So obviously, if you grow upeating unhealthy, to make a
change from that is going to bevery, very difficult and time
consuming to Get healthy if it'snot already too late, because
(07:01):
if you go too long Withouttaking this into consideration,
you know you have serious healthproblems at that stage.
Martha (07:07):
Sure, and you're setting
the, the eating habits right
and the food relationship.
I want two years old guys likethey don't have to be older than
that, like when they're tiny.
They're, they're sponges Right,they absorb on this.
But you're also settinginternally in their bodies how
their body's going to functionand response to food later on Is
(07:29):
incredible.
Jeremy (07:30):
You're making me feel
guilty for taking my kids to
chick filet last night aftersoccer practice because I I
didn't make dinner and I was ina rush and I was like, oh, it's
convenient, I'll just go there.
It's somewhat healthy, not?
Martha (07:42):
Well, listen, everything
in moderation, including
moderation, but yeah, that's notthe case in our society and
that's it's.
That's why, you know, diabetesand obesity is huge in our
children now, because that'swhat we feed our kids and you
know you go out and to have atime with family, you know, have
(08:03):
a great time, and it's alwaysaround foods that are normally
not what we should be eating, you know so.
So that's number one.
Number two so it's themaintenance metabolic age, and
the maintenance metabolic age isbetween the ages of 25 to 50.
Okay, so now you went fromyouthful to maintenance.
(08:26):
Just the name of the alonetells you that.
This is when it's like man whenI was in 12th grade, I can do
whatever I want and I wouldn't,I wouldn't get any weight anyway
.
But now, what the heck?
Now it's not like that.
I'm not assigned zero like Iused to be, you know.
(08:47):
So that's because you'retransitioning into adulthood and
your metabolic rate actuallystabilizes.
So you know how, in number oneit's super efficient and it's
burning, you know, food intoenergy and all this kind of
stuff.
Now it's like stabilizing.
So yeah, it's stabilizing, butin this phase you start feeling
(09:10):
like subtle changes and gradualchanges in your muscle mass.
It's like, you know, I used topump it up in high school and I
used to be swole.
And now now I go to the gym andit's like what the heck?
Like it's not happening like itused to right, don't remind me,
damn it.
(09:30):
And then we also have a tendencyof accumulating fat.
Jeremy (09:35):
Yeah.
Martha (09:36):
So this is the
maintenance type.
So obviously, like a healthylifestyle, you know, being super
active, eating the right foodsare it's important right and
doing things that increase yourmetabolism.
You know which is, which isfood related and activity
related, right?
Also, the next stage will go tostage number three, and here's
(10:03):
an interesting word is thatdeclining stage of your
metabolic age.
Jeremy (10:08):
Oh no.
Martha (10:09):
So you went from
youthful to maintenance to now
declining, and it's like man.
Okay, for females it's theperiposte metaposal phase and
you know, for males age is 50 toseven.
That's the age group for thedeclining metabolic age.
Jeremy (10:25):
So 50 to 50 to 70.
Martha (10:27):
50 to 70.
Yes, okay, this is all abouthormonal changes continuing the
decrease of muscle mass, right.
Then those metabolism itself islike naturally slowing down A
lot of times in these stages.
(10:47):
You know, maybe somebodystarted with a chronic disease,
right, diabetes, maybe somethyroid issues, things like.
There's certain chronicdiseases that causes the
metabolism to slow down.
Prescription drugs also doesthat.
So there's certain prescriptiondrugs that causes the
(11:09):
metabolism to slow down, and sothis phase is definitely not so
fun phase, but there is hopebecause we can do something
about all of this and I'm goingto talk about that later.
Then we go to number four, thelast phase, guys, and that's the
senior metabolic phase, andthat's ages 70 and up.
(11:32):
And so in this, way thetwilight years.
Yeah, in this phase themetabolism keeps slowing down
and then also the muscle massright Starts declining.
Kids continue to decline, andso those are the four stages.
(11:52):
Most people have no idea thatthat exists, and so when you
have somebody come into ouroffice and say I feel like my
metabolism is slow, well, maybeit's because you're not at the
stage that you're supposed to be.
And I'm coming back to my storyand that's what happened to me
when I was 42 years old.
(12:13):
I was an 86 year old metabolicage, which I was in the senior
stage, and it's like wow, and soagain, there's hope, there's
things that we can do to helpthat.
So those are the four stages, jeremy.
What do you think so far?
Jeremy (12:34):
I just think the human
condition is so fascinating.
So many people out there takebetter care of material things
they're stuff than they do oftheir own body and everything
you're saying about the musclemass decline and aging right.
It's just so important toexercise, eat right, take care
(12:57):
of yourself.
Before you know it, you getolder and you are in that place
where you find it hard to getaround, you become immobile and
you could have done so much.
And with hindsight, obviouslyyou're looking back and you're
thinking, wow, I should havetaken better care of myself.
Martha (13:14):
Well, and that's the
thing that usually people start
doing that when somethinghappens, that you have no choice
.
And now, after hearing this, you understand that we actually
should be doing that at the veryfirst stage, because you're
setting the stage for the restof your life or the rest of your
child's life.
(13:35):
I have a question for you.
Jeremy (13:39):
Sorry to cut you off.
I've always said this and Iwant to know if this is a silly
thing to say.
It sounds like it probably is.
I've always been blessed with Ialways say this when I'm
talking to people I have a fastmetabolism because I can pretty
much eat whatever I want and Idon't balloon up and I don't
(14:01):
gain a lot of weight.
I mean, to some degree.
Is that an accurate thing tojust say to somebody that, oh, I
must have a fast metabolism?
I just say that because itsounds like I do.
Is that accurate?
Martha (14:13):
We actually do see that
here it has to do also with like
your physique type, like thebody type that you have.
There's different types, bodytypes, right, and we can talk
about that in a differentepisode, but there's several
different body types and there'scertain ones that are you, like
(14:33):
your body type, jeremy, that itcan be where their metabolic
age is actually more youthfulthan their natural age, and we
see that here too.
We have clients that come foronly body contouring, that
weight loss, and when we runtheir metabolic age, you know
they're like a 15 year old andthey're like 30 years old and
we're like man, we're jealous, like what the heck.
(14:55):
But so, yeah, that can totallyhappen.
Jeremy (14:59):
So what can I say,
Martha?
I'm just a prime specimen ofhuman being.
What else is there to say?
Right, I love that.
On that note, we'll end there.
Always a pleasure, veryinformative, very educational.
So thank you for sharing.
Learned a lot today.
Martha (15:20):
Yeah.
So, jeremy, just one last thing.
Guys there listening out there,if you want to know what your
metabolic age is, come toInspire.
That's the first thing we takea look at, because I was 40.
I was 86 and now I'm 48.
And then my metabolic age is 48.
So there's something that wecan do about it.
Jeremy (15:42):
Perfect, all right,
sounds good.
And thanks everyone for tuningin and we will catch you on the
next episode.
Everyone, have a wonderful day.
