Will & Max discuss the ample representation of midlifers during Usher's Super Bowl halftime show, including Jermaine Dupri in his designer toddler socks (plus midlifers in the Dunkin' Donuts commercial), which led to a discussion of what shoes and clothes are age-appropriate and whether either of us could pull off wearing an Apple Vision Pro around town.

Unknown (00:02):
Hey, Will, hey, how are you?
I'm good. How are you?
I'm great. I'm great. Anotherblessed day on Earth. Happy to
be here. Happy to be on thepodcast. I feel like we should
welcome first time, listeners, subscribers, whatever you call
it. I don't, I don't think weshout them out enough. And also

(00:25):
we should give a big thank youfor all those people that have
been listening to us andsubscribing. Keep that going.
Keep that energy that way going.
We listened to all yourresponses and everything. And we
just try to make this a betterpodcast each and every time. So
I just want to say thank you tothe first time people and our
longtime listenersSo how was the Super Bowl party

(00:49):
that you went to? Oh, superparty. It was good. It was it
was good. It was like I said itwas it was a it was a joy. You
know, there was lots of goodfood. There were a lot of good
drinks. It's also a place whereeverybody every male, I think,
Thanks, Sarah, football wizard, football Insider. So you know,

(01:15):
we're we're breaking down likewhat the teams are doing wrong,
why are they not running enough?
Why are they not passing enough?
That sort of thing. And that'skind of fun, though. With the
males is kind of like, you wantto keep up and you want to kind
of like match your, yourfootball IQ with them. So it's
kind of you know, it's a anytimewhere males watch. If they're

(01:38):
interested in football, I'vedefinitely met some guys who
don't give a shit aboutfootball. But like, who
are you rooting for?
I didn't move any teams. I hadno no rooting interest in
anybody, which I think is one ofthe great ways of watching a
football game because you justwant a good game. You don't care

(01:59):
who wins. And I placed a coupleof bets. I had a kind of went
back and forth. My initialfeeling was that Kansas City was
going to win because I think thestars were aligned for that. You
know, that whole the wholenumerology about 13? I don't
know if you saw that. Okay, butwait, what was my initial

(02:22):
thoughts? Like, who was sayingit?
And how it all had to do withTaylor Swift? I don't remember
all that die entail, but it waslike, well, she had to fly from
Tokyo to get there. And how manyhours is that? Take? 13? Yeah,
it was a bunch of like, yeah, yeah. And there were a bunch of

(02:45):
13 references. But so I don'tknow if that fit into my
thoughts. I can see what's goingon when I just think when I look
at a football game in thatsense, particularly so we'll
always go with the best who Ithink is the best quarterback.
Okay,smart. Yeah, yeah. So experience
for sure. Right?

(03:06):
Definitely for sure. Then towardthe game. I started thinking,
well, San Fran does have thebetter team all the way around.
Right. So I kind of I kind of, Iguess, uh, toward the end of
the, toward the beginning of thegame, I was thinking San
Francisco is going towin. So it was a jersey betting
your friend. Oh,I bet. I bet a lot. And when I

(03:30):
got there. Some people saw thatI was betting online. So they
wanted to jump in on that. Andyou know, they gave me some
money to make bets for them. Andthat sort of thing went a lot.
But we all lost. So we all lost.
But yeah, it was it was fun. Itwas good time. It was also the

(03:52):
host of the party. His motherwas celebrating her seven, seven
years. Wow. That's nice. So itwas a combo Superbowl party.
So she was their birthday party.
She was like multi generation.
Well, yes. Any kids?
No kids, no kids. What about youwas at a party with two other

(04:12):
families. And the kids were alldownstairs so kind of separated
out. They didn't really watchthe game. They were just playing
video games. And then we watchedthe adults watched upstairs and
it was great. Because I actuallywasn't like a big group either.
And so we could kind of watchthe game and focus on the game
and have a little bit the chitchat. And they have a ton of

(04:34):
food. Like they went out andbought all this stuff from
Costco for a barbecue, you know, because we were rooting for
Kansas City. So we did thiswhole barbecue theme. Yeah. Tell
me your thoughts on the halftimeshow.
It was it was midlife heavy.
Are you a fan?
I'm a I'm a fan. I'm not a superfan, but I enjoy and appreciate

(04:57):
his work. I noticed I don't knowif you noticed ushers mic wasn't
that great at the beginning? Didyou? Yeah,
I didn't know what was going on.
I also thought like, a lot ofyou know, he played a lot of
slow songs at the beginning.
Right, right, right.
Right. I don't remember exactlywhat the first song was. But we
kind of took like, informal betson like, what was going to be

(05:20):
the first song? I think theconsensus was? Yeah.
Oh, really? They would say hewould save it till the end.
Save it to the end. I forgetwhat I picked up. Maybe I'll
remember it shortly. But it wascool. Yeah, yeah. Um, what?
I love the roller skating. goroller skating was the best part

(05:40):
for me. I know that. AliciaKeys. She started off with a
really horrible note. I don'tknow if he knows. Yeah. Yeah.
She's the one she didn't shedidn't hit her. Yeah, she Yeah.
But I mean, she's alwaysso great. So yeah,
I mean, and you know, I'm sureshe was playing the piano where

(06:02):
she can do very well. Just thatone note or two at the beginning
was like that it sounds so good.
But no, the costume changes theroller skating, which I thought
was cool.
And he's in good shape. Age 45.
Looking good.
Yeah. You know, it's funny, because I actually saw some

(06:22):
flack about his shape. Really,on social media. Yeah. What?
They said he didn't have the absthat he used. Oh my gosh. Like
45 years old. And I would killfor whatever shape he's in right
now.
I know. I think it would putmost a lot of people younger

(06:43):
than him to shame. Go back andlook at that.
For sure. And then I also saw Ididn't really notice maybe you
noticed that he was perspiringquite a
bit. Yeah. Well, it's natural, right? Yeah.
I mean, he's a 45 year old man.
Singing and doing all thosedances and skating. But
don't you think that's alsobecause maybe the cameras are

(07:04):
better these days? Lights arehot. Yeah, everything.
Everything'shot. So I thought it was I
thought it was awesome shoutagain. I wish his mic was a
little bit better. The AliciaKeys thing I
don't really care about did youlike having like The Little John
in there and I liked a littleJohn and then ludicrous from the
Illuminati was in there. Also, will I am was uh, oh, yeah, I

(07:30):
don't I don't know what theywere the other black eyed peas
were, but I definitelyrecognized. Well, I am and yeah,
I thought it was I thought itwas a good show.
So what was your reaction? So Iactually didn't know who
Jermaine Dupri Well, you didn'tknow. JD Yeah, so I looked him

(07:51):
up. Right. But I actuallydidn't. Look, I thought the
outfit was like a little bitodd. I didn't really think about
it, but then reading up on itlater, but what was your
reaction or people at the party?
I didn't. I guess I was withpeople. Like you who didn't
really recognize who that was. Imean, it was really quick,

(08:14):
right? It was quick. And like ittook me about 30 seconds to
process who that was. And I waslike, oh, that's JD is Jermaine
Dupri. And by the time I processwho it was, he was gone and I
didn't really have a chance toreally break down his fit. So

(08:39):
then when I saw it in picturesand videos later, I was like, Oh
my gosh, what is my midlife man?
Doing?
So many comments online.
So I saw a lot about his socks.
Yeah, becauseI guess there and then he posted
that there Louis Batanes $500socks or something. So then

(09:01):
everybody was ripping on him.
Like, it doesn't matter ifthey're designer socks. You look
like a child. Yeah, you he looked like a fat middle
age toddler on that stage withwith children's socks. His shoes
and socks like what Jamie Foxxwore in Django when he had that

(09:21):
blue suit with the ruffles and Idon't know if you remember that.
But I thought it was appalling.
I thought it was atrocious. Ithink that that set mid life.
Well, I just wonder who whostyled him. You know what I
mean? A lot of people say himlook like lollipop kids.

(09:43):
From the lollipop. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Whoever is does thisshould should be on LinkedIn
right now looking for anotherjob. Because that's just
terrible. And if he Well, heshould get most of the blame
because he has to approve that.
Oh, I don't know what he wasthinking. I really don't. I

(10:03):
really don't Jermaine Dupri is,is I wouldn't say an idol. But I
love and respect Jermaine Dupriall he's done for the music
industry and the people thathe's put on,
do so many songs. carries.
MariahCarey, he was with Jenna. He was

(10:23):
with Janet Jackson at one pointthey were together. Right? The
brat? I mean that whole sosodeaf family, you know, he is
Atlanta, music. You know, when Ithink of Atlanta music, he was
one of the guys that paved theway paved the way for that. But,
you know, midlife we gotta dobetter. We got to do better.

(10:46):
Just because we can't we havethe ability to wear and afford
to wear things. Sometimes wejust, we just shouldn't. Right.
And I think the sad thing islike, if even though he's got
this great body of work, peopleare gonna remember him for those
socks.
It's gonna take a while. Yeah,he can't. It's hard to live that
down. Like, I think he evencomedies like, Oh, I got all

(11:08):
these number one hits stuff, youknow, but who cares?
So anyhow, I mean, like, Do youbelieve that? Like, if you are
at our age, we shouldn't wearcertain things.
Yes, and no, yes. And no. And Iapproach it as I don't really

(11:30):
care what other people think Igo with, I look at myself and
say, I should not be wearingthat. You know?
Is there something you put onand you said to young?
Well, I would like okay, let'stalk about shoes. For example. I
would not wear vans. You know, the skating shoes, that's just

(11:54):
too too useful. Butwhich is crazy, because vans are
from the 80s. When we grewsomething, something should be
left in it. Carry it on tobecause we wore it in an ad. No,
I mean, can't do that. But thatkind of reminds me I didn't see
a funny, real or I don't havetick tock so I had to be a real
but it was a gentleman in his50s. who posed, I guess he has

(12:20):
his own podcast, but who posedthe question, and we should let
me pause for a second. When nexttime we do this max, we're gonna
have like, like a, like a musicand maybe a an audio kind of
thing. Am I too old for that?

(12:48):
But here we go. The segment. Um,am I too old for this? Am I too
old to wear Jordans? And thatwas the question that he posed.
Okay, and how old was he? He was5051 52. Okay. And he's like, I
think I'm too old or joint. AndI think I was drinking something

(13:12):
at the time. And I did because Ihave Jordans out quite a few,
you know, and I like my Jordans.
And you know, it made me thinkJordans. And you know what my
conclusion was? Right? Oh, no,no, no, not to all words. Your
logicbetween the Jordans like Jordans

(13:35):
are also from a long time ago.
Probably 80s But I couldn't Icouldn't afford Jordans back
then. So the I think that's alittle bit different. I think
Jordans now are somewhat of aluxury item right
like status right? Well yeah, vans vans are kind of more
useful I guess there's like100% nine kids can wear join

(13:56):
anybody can wear obviously, butyou know they're they're not
cheap. And they're becomingharder and harder to get there.
You know, a lot of these brickand mortar sneaker stores are
are closing I just read aboutthe champs in the mall here
shutting down. But now if theman who the shoe was designed

(14:18):
for and and he owns you knowthat part of what the Jordan
Brand if he can wear him andhe's older than us if he can
wear but by gosh, we can wearI think anybody can wear Jordans
come home I think anybody canwear vans. It just depends on
your style. You don't if you canpull it off. You know what I

(14:42):
don't think a 50 year old manshould his style should include
vans. I just that's just me,just like those Jermaine Dupri
sucks. I can't think of any fitthat will say hey, man, I'm
gonna kill him with these Amishshots or whatever hell he was
wearing.
It looks like a 1600s publicdefender.

(15:03):
Yes. That is so amazing flowers.
Yeah, that is so fun. But that is an
extreme example. But women toyou know, like, if you see a
woman like wearing, you know, she's obviously middle aged and
she's wearing like a tiny skirtor letting it all hang out. I
mean, what are your thoughts onthat? Like, do you mind that?

(15:23):
Well,that's different. I mean, I
think I guess I'm gonna besexist here. But I think if you
got the body to do it, then youshould do it. I mean, I think
you I think you should don'tcross the line of being looking
to study or to promiscuous orsomething like that nature. But

(15:50):
I think you should, where thereis a line that I think you
should wear age appropriateclothing, but I think you can
also mill that with beingsexual. Being sexy, I should say
not sexual, but sexy. Beingsexy. You know, cuz women, women

(16:12):
like to look good. Men like tolook good. Men like to wear
clothes. Correct. We wearclothes that accentuate, if we
have muscles, that sort ofthing, right? Like, you know, my
friends are gonna laugh at me.
But I have big arms like, youknow, muscular type arm. So my

(16:38):
fit will. I like to wear shirtsand wood sleeves and everything
that makes my arms look good.
And then then then the rest ofme is pretty much trashed. But
my arms look good. So I'm awareI'll work clothes that that
accentuate that. Now women, women can do the same thing.
Alright, I think it is pull itoff. And you're right. Some
people are more fit. I mean, onething that we talked we didn't

(16:59):
talk about was the Superbowlcommercials. Right with JLo and
JLo. You know, she's always anexample of, you know, she looks
good. She's 54 years old. Beforeit looks like
she could wear anything, right?
So you can she can? Since youbrought up JLo How did Ben

(17:23):
Affleck and Matt Damon lookedto?
Ah, you mean older?
I didn't say that. I just askedyou. How did they look? Well?
Definitely. Ben Affleck looksolder. I think he's even showing
some gray. Like I don't mindthat. But he looks great. Now
theproblem is there skin. Yeah, I
definitely you I think Benlooked better than Matt. I think

(17:49):
Matt Yeah.
Well, I think Matt had a lot ofmakeup on or something.
Something he didn't he didn'tquite look right. Yeah. He
didn't look like I mean, ofcourse he's gotten older and
he's our age. He's just 33benna flex. 51. Jayla is 54. Tom
Brady's 46.

(18:11):
Yeah, I mean, I guess I guess itis what it is. Yeah, I mean, age
a little bit better than others.
Youknow, partying, you know, they
if we were in their shoes, don'tyou think it'd be kind of living
it up and that takes a toll onyour body? Not that we're not
now but I feel like thatlifestyle is just, you're gonna
be staying up late. You're gonnabe partying you're gonna

(18:36):
argue so I mean, as far as MattDamon is concerned, I don't I
don't really remember him beingin the news for being like a
super party or anything likeyeah, he's all about his
lifestyle. Yeah, he's,I think he's basically been with
like the same woman for foryears. And you know, never hear
about him like getting introuble or

(18:58):
visiting a dad that can age.
That'll definitely hefacts, facts. So yeah, I mean, I
shouldn't be so so. So catty.
Sorry, viewers and listeners outthere. You know, it was a moment
of weakness. I'm sorry. No, youknow, fuck that. I'm gonna speak
my mind.
Actually, when you asked meabout that, I do think that Matt

(19:22):
Damon did look a little bitolder, but maybe our view of
what should you know, I mean,he's under a microscope. You
know, he's on TV. So it's hard.
Yeah. Like if I always thinkabout I look when I'm on Zoom.
Right now they touch up yourlook, you know, they touch up a
face so but if somebody saw mein real life, they might be
like, Whoa, yeah, he definitely didn't look

(19:44):
like Jason Bourne anymore. Lookfar from it. Jason died or
something. But yeah, but yeah.
JLo looks. Yeah, I mean, he'sgreat actor, you know, I'm being
a little bit petty. Let JLoalways look sensational.

(20:09):
T pain and a plugin. PluginApple vision pros. Here we go
again. What do you think weneed to over this? Oh, no, no,
no, no, listen, I am a nerd whenit comes to like new technology,
stuff like that I'm. I'm anearly adopter.

(20:31):
But why do you think you're anearly adopter? Is it because you
kind of work in technology?
I've always been that kind ofbright. I always wanted new to
new game systems,or the handhelds back in the day
surround sound and yes, surround sound always trying to
talk my friends as far as TVs.

(20:52):
Yeah. Back in the day when, youknow, in high school, you know,
I tried to have the best, youknow, audio system in my car.
Walkman, this man, you know, whatever I could get, you know,
and, you know, I would alwayswant to be on top of top of the
game when it comes to the newtechnology, stuff like that. I

(21:15):
think the apple vision is cool.
I like it. I mean, I wish itwasn't four stacks, but
hopefully it'll come down inprice at some point. Hopefully.
I just don't agree with T pain.
I think he said he's going towork
24/7 He wants to avoid reality.
Yeah.

(21:36):
I mean, you know what? TheMetaverse is cool. Sometimes I
think you know, I've been knownto skip social activities, and
just be in the metaverse allweekend. You know, it's cool.
But with that, I think it's justa little little too early in the
game to be walking around withthat, you know, walking through

(21:58):
the airport or the mall? Isthat another thing about? Are
you too old to be looking likethat or wearing?
I think so. I really do. Ireally do.
I think we should definitelytry. But what is the deal with
the metaverse? So you actuallyhave a meta quest?
I do I have a I forget what itwas called.

(22:18):
When did you get it?
I've had it for two years.
Okay. And so tell me about yourexperience with that, because
I'm not really as familiar withit was it's, you know, it's a
virtual reality system. So,so you just connect with
whoever's on right.
You can Yeah, you can interactwith other meta quest users. You

(22:42):
know, they'll have situationswhere you will be in a lobby
somewhere or, or, or any type ofdeal where you could see people
and what you see is like, theiravatar, right. And it's kind of
funny because avatars don't havelegs. So it's just basically a
torso and head.
So did you make yours look likeyou? Or did you? Were you

(23:03):
somebody?
Yes. You make you can you I mademy look like me, you know, Fly
Fly black man outdoors? And,yeah. And yeah, it's cool. You
know, you'll get into I thinkit's called metal world or
horizon world. I'll name acouple of times. But you know,

(23:25):
they'll have a situation whereit's like a made up like a
virtual bar, or virtual club, soyou can go in there with a
little avatar and talk and youknow, Hey, ladies. Hey, what's
up, dude? Blah, blah, blah.
Bunch of people. Yeah, so peopleYeah. 100%. And, you know, just
talking about whatever I hadsome gentleman give me a

(23:49):
dissertation aboutcryptocurrency at one point, and
I had to politely excused. Whichis easy, because you just log
out. You know what I mean? It'snot like you have to, you know,
in the like, in a real setting.
You have to find a way to getout of the rooms. I
just did. Yes. Yeah. So do youare you just sitting the whole

(24:10):
time? No,it depends on what you're doing.
So they'll have games forexample, so they're like I
played there a few times. Iplayed a buddy of mine to my
buddies. I haven't and we didlike bowling. We did golf. Oh,
that's fun. Yeah. So yes, asecond you know, for virtual
reality game like we're we cansee the other person bowling a

(24:32):
strike or bowling or whateveryou see, see the other person's
swinging their club and do allthat kind of stuff. So it's
really cool.
Did you would you do it forhours and hours? I'd
do it for hours. I would do itfor hours. I mean, I can't tell
you how many hours I loveplaying virtual golf. I played a

(24:53):
lot of the I don't know whatthey what it's called. But the
beat thing where there's musicplaying and there's like a
visual representation of thebeats you have to hit Yeah, you
have to hit it. You know, it's agood little workout. And there
was like, a zombie game I usedto play all the time I kill the

(25:13):
zombies. And I'll cut off therewas a football game where I was
a, it was a team, like pick anNFL team. And I was a
quarterback. So I would, youknow, receive the hike, and I'd
have to throw the ball to thereceivers and everything. So
it's pretty cool. Yeah, that'scool. Yeah, I need to get back
into it. It's been a while sinceI've done it.

(25:34):
But you're more into that thenlike Apple vision Pro?
Yeah, because what I read aboutthe vision Pro is there's
there's no, there's no otherinteraction with other users. So
you're basically in there byyourself. Okay, so lying. Yeah,
exploring, putting up screenslike YouTube or any kind of, I

(25:58):
don't know, documents orwhatever productivity apps and
stuff like productivity apps, Ishould say, you're kind of in
this just your own little worldand you just put it you know,
you can see the real world sowith the meta quests, you can't
see what's around you what'saround, you're totally immersed

(26:18):
in the in the VR world with thewith the Apple vision, you can
see the real world and then youcan see whatever you You're
messing with in there. So that'sa pretty cool thing about it.
But once I feel like once theyfind a way to make it so that
you can react with other shareexperiences with other Apple

(26:40):
vision users, I think that'swell we'll take it over.
I don't care about theinteracting with other people.
