Unknown (00:00):
Have you been doing any
marauding lately? Any progress?
(00:04):
Ah, marauding. i Well, I've beensticking out to a pretty
consistent workout schedule.
Yeah, that's pretty happy aboutthat. Yeah. diet has been pretty
decent as the doubleheaderlittle had a burger today. It's
not the worst thing in theworld, but I had a bag of chips
to go with it. So that'sprobably worse than the burger.
(00:28):
If you're not eating that everyday. It's not that big of a
deal. Oh, no, no, no, no,I've been avoiding fast foods
and all that stuff. So I've beenpretty good. I've been pretty
good. I'm sore as heck, my. Myneck is sore today. My back.
I've been having something withmy shoulder. I'm pretty sure I
may have like a combination oftennis elbow and a rotator cuff
(00:49):
issue. But we weregonna say, is that from working
out or from working like at acomputer?
No, no, no, it's definitelyworking with. I'm pretty sure
it's from golf to be. Oh, yeah.
Nogolf. Isn't that funny? I think
I have golf elbow even though Idon't play golf. But you have
tennis elbow.
(01:11):
Yeah. I mean, that's, I guessthat's the universal thing or,
yeah, something. So yes, it's mybody. I mean, I feel good. I
mean, I feel like, you know, theworkouts are going well, the,
you know, I feel like I'mbecoming a little bit more
muscular or whatever, but ithasn't been that long. So I
mean, just I see small littlegains. That's good. Yeah. But,
(01:35):
you know, my body's like, Hey,buddy, you're 54 year though.
Can't do that young stuffanymore. But you know what?
We're gonna make it work. Right?
Absolutely. breaks down.
Yeah, for sure. Speed of theworkout. So funny video of a
(01:55):
gentleman our age. Marauders beworking out in leather pants.
Oh, I saw that as well. A lot ofbuzz about that. Right.
A lot of buses gentleman namedLenny Kravitz, who we probably
all know was seeing working outgood for him. I mean, the mid
(02:15):
lifers we gotta get out. We gotto keep our body in tune. And
he's in great shape. But hisworkout attire was an ask
questions, right? Yeah, leatherpants. Come on. Lenny. I get you
know, you have this rockstaraura and all this. But come on,
man. We could go for like someLulu lemons or some workout
(02:39):
clothes. Andthat would mess with his brand,
though. You know what I mean?
Is that I guess so. Does he haveto stay in character? 24/7
I think it would be weird to seehim like now that you've now
that you've seen him working outin those leather pants and the
mesh shirt. I can't picture himlike going in shorts or you
(02:59):
know, like the typical workoutwhere and then it's kind of like
what we say like when you're ourage. You shouldn't give a fuck,
right? Oh, you know, youshouldn't care.
People think you know, you knowyou went to the midlife award
today. You You call me out onthat? No fucks given here I am.
And I'm talking and letting youknow. You got me today. You got
(03:21):
a good one Max. No fucks givenoff was given Lenny Kravitz Keep
doing your thing keep maraudingout there with the leather pants
on. And you're in your seatthrough whatever shirt you had
on there. And I guess he had allhis bracelets and all that
accoutrement on or whatever youneed to work out and get it
done. Imean, it can't make cannabis
uncomfortable. But you know ifit works for him, but you know,
(03:42):
I started you know, when I readup on him, or you know, I was
looking at all the social media.
And so then I go down thisrabbit hole, like, oh, what's he
up to these days? Right. So Iguess he got his star on the
Walk of set. What is it called?
The Walk of Fame? Yeah, inHollywood. Yeah. Now there was a
really touching speech from hisdaughter. So I know why. But
(04:04):
then I also saw from ZoeKravitz. Mm hmm. So she gave a
really funny speech toxictalking about his mesh shirts.
But then also, I guess he I wentto his website, and he's like,
Oh, I was nominated for the Rockand Roll Hall of Fame. So vote
for me, right. So Right. Okay. Istarted to vote but then you
(04:24):
have to register and all thisstuff. So I didn't vote, but he
didn't make it.
Oh, no. You never thought hewould been well deserved that
honor. I did see who was theinductees? I saw the list.
inductees are in our kindageneration here. I shout out to
(04:49):
Mary J. Blige. And I tried.
Yeah, absolutely. Share lifersout there. Mirotic Well, Oh
yeah, Michelle to call out therun out the list. It was Cher,
Dave Matthews, who I believe isour age. Yeah, he's probably
foreigner. Foreigner PeterFrampton cool in the gang group
(05:10):
I grew up on listen to a lot.
And as he was born, so shout outall them. But since this is a
midlife podcast, we want to givea real deep, hearty
congratulations to Mary Jay andDave Matthews and the Tribe
Called Quest. Yeah. What did youthink you told me earlier? What
(05:32):
is the quote? What's the initialqualification for getting into
that, or being oneof those things where you, they
have a nominating committee, right. And then they open it up
to the public. And then theyhave some panel also, it's kind
of like the Oscars where youknow, you belong to some group.
And then you get, you know, you're able to do the voting or
(05:53):
be on the committee. So there's,I think, you know, some
historians or experts that areon this nominating committee,
and then the selectioncommittee, but it's also
influenced by the public's vote.
So if you have a lot of fans, you know, it's a little bit
like, I guess, American Idol, you know, when they open it up
(06:13):
to a public vote. And so that'show they selected them. But I
think it's a combination here.
So it's weird, because I think, first of all, it's kind of weird
that the Rock and Roll Hall ofFame includes so many genres. I
remember when that first whenthey started first opening it
up, I was like, What is goingon? Right? It's like change the
name or, you know, I don't know.
(06:34):
It just seemed like they openedup to everybody. But um, Mariah
Carey was nominated didn't getin and think about like, right,
so if you think abouthow you exclude Mariah Carey, I
don't know. But I think that youcan be nominated multiple times
and not get in, you know, somaybe, maybe this is the first
(06:58):
time she was nominated. And shedidn't get in, but maybe she
didn't have enough fans votingfor her.
Wow. Well, I think maybe youtold me I read somewhere that
you have to have releasedsomething at least 25 years
before your firstrecording has to have been 25
years ago. So so then that meansyou have to have had longevity,
(07:20):
I guess although I don't know ifPeter Frampton or foreigner
about out anything out recently.
But um, they probablycan't really get around for a
while.
So of the midlife piece ofmarriage J. Dave Matthews Tribe
(07:45):
Called Quest do any of them havea, like a special meaning to
you? Or, or, or one that kind ofresonates more with you?
Well, I remember when Mary Jaysher big album, I'm not sure if
it was probably wasn't our firstone but the one with real love
on it. So big and everybodyloves, right? Like she's, she's
always seemed to kind of bearound or, you know, you see her
(08:10):
on stage everywhere. So I thinkthat, you know, look at that
you're like, Oh, that makessense. I liked her when I was
growing up, but I didn't thinkthey should beat out. Ryan
Murphy or Lenny Kravitz.
That's kind of crazy.
Class. So we've got our podcastnamed after Dave Matthews. He
(08:32):
was a big UBA. Yeah.
He's from Charlotte. Yes, yeah.
South African but I believe hemoves public to Charlottesville.
Like really? Yeah, I think we'reseeing Dave Matthews when we
were in school. Max When? Whenhe wasn't well known at all. And
I remember seeing him playing atthe downtown Mall. Oh, wow.
(08:58):
Yeah, just just playing outthere.
Did you know who he was? No,no, I he had just become
somewhat of a local celebrity oryou know, you know, some renown
in Charlottesville. So I hadheard the name and then when he
blew up, obviously, you know, Iwas like, Well, I saw him when
(09:21):
he was you know, basicallyplaying in an outdoor mall kind
of situation so that's cool.
Shout out to Dave Matthews youcould have taken obviously Tribe
Called Quest is near and dear tomy heart. That's what the name
of this podcast is inspired fromone of their songs you know, had
(09:46):
an opportunity to see them live.
You know, recipes to five dog.
Obviously that's one that's nearand dear but but you're right
about Mary J. Mary J. has founda way to stay relevant and
contemporary. You know, she's aged gracefully. He's
very, very well done oranything.
(10:10):
I will say, you know, there, there have been a few times Max.
Where, you know, we touched onthis before. I'm a sensitive
person, but I'm not a veryemotional person. So that, you
know, the difference is I don't,I don't, like poor I don't like
(10:33):
cry, or do any kind of thatstuff.
So you're sensitive, but youdon't cry. Yeah, don't cry.
You're okay. You're notemotional.
It is within. There's nooutpouring of emotion from it.
That makessense. Okay. Okay. Yes, you
are happy. Right? Right. Yeah.
Yeah, not not too high or toolow. I kind of keep it in
(10:57):
between. So for, I guess, wewill want to call this like
maybe some self healing, or tokind of get these emotions out.
I used to have, and I probablyneed to go back to this. But I
used to have, I would dedicate aday where I said, Alright, I'm
going to clean my house. Right.
(11:21):
So my routine of cleaning myhouse would be, I would put on,
like, sad music like love songs.
Right. Okay. And I would drinkwine. Right?
Wait, what's this? How long thismusic came out?
This is Yeah, I mean, this hasbeen, you know, I've done it a
(11:41):
few times. It's been, right. So,you know, usually it's like,
maybe if it's like a drearySaturday day or something like
that, right. And so, you know, Ineed to get in touch with my
emotions. My you know, okay. SoI would start cleaning. And I
would put on like a, like aplaylist of like, breakup songs
(12:06):
or anything that was kind ofsad. And I would crack open a
bottle of wine, and I wouldclean and drink wine and listen
to sad songs. And I would thinkabout really funny. Yeah. The
upbeat stuff toknow because I'm trying to get
these emotions out, you know? Atwork? Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. So I'm
doing this I'm drinking wine.
(12:29):
I'm thinking about, like, youknow, women who are loved and
lost or have been dumped, or anykind of like sad things that
have happened. And I haven'treally had an opportunity to let
my emotions out over thesethings. And I would clean and
drink wine and listen to songsand there were tears. I was
gonna ask you, if that's exactlywhat it was. It's just a
(12:56):
emotional dump, so to speak, andI would cry and sit there and
just drink and reflect thatsong of hers. What do you listen
to? Oh, Mary'sgot many songs about her being,
you know, you know, being ranover being done bad and stuff
like that. I mean, I can't. Soyeah, she's kind of the queen of
(13:18):
that. But yeah, it would just belike, some sad songs. And yeah,
and I would just man just, and Iwould just have all this time
and, and to be honest, I didn'treally do a great job of
cleaning. It was just somethingto do to keep. keep me going.
But yeah, it was those werethose were really therapeutic
(13:40):
for me. And I probably need tohave another one. Yeah, so shout
out to theRock Hall of Fame. She deserved
it, you should tell her thatstory.
Twitter and let her know howmuch of an impact she's had on
my life and how she is affectedmy my wellness, you know, so to
(14:03):
speak. So shout out the mirrorshot. So I ran into a situation
the other night I want to get Iwant to get your opinion about
something. Okay. Okay, so I wasout last weekend. And I was with
some friends and they kind ofpetered out and they left and I
(14:27):
just found myself in a bar slashrestaurant by myself. All right,
so I'm having a cocktail orwhatever. And I see this, this
young lady, not young lady, butthis lady comes up to the bar.
And she's with a girl.
Did you think she was well?
(14:48):
i When you saw I did not. I didnot formulate that kind of
opinion. Do you dothat when you see somebody you
do size them up and kind ofthink so
cool. as well, okay. Age is notthe top priority. It's not the
first thing. Okay, let's she wasshe was attractive. However, she
(15:11):
was wearing workout gear. Okay,I'm gonna circle the other pants
work. But she was wearingworkout gear and it was probably
like 1010 30. Right? Okay, soI'm out on a cocktail, and I'd
see these two women sitting nextto me now. The one I'm talking
(15:36):
about was closer to Me and herfriend was opposite her. Okay,
so something happens, blah, blah, blah. I'm talking about
something. I don't know, I don'tknow how the conversation got
initiated. But somehow we're alltalking. Right. And I, you know,
(15:57):
I had already kind of size herup, and she looks good. You
know, let's just see where thisgoes. And somehow age comes up.
Now, I know that these ladiesare they're not 20, not 30. I
would have put them on late 40sto 50s. Okay. All right. Just
(16:22):
just as a general look, youknow, I'm not like, you know,
looking for crow's feet orwrinkles or anything like that.
Just so you know, generally, like when you add a glance, you
kind of figure Yeah, thank you.
Right. Ata glance. So somehow, we get to
talk about age, right. So Ibelieve the woman that was
(16:47):
absolutely me, who I wasn'treally talking to, she tells me
that she's 50 something. I can'tremember what she said. And I
said, I'm from 50. Something towrite. So the one I guess I had
sort of developed an interest intells me that oh, I'm 60 I
(17:08):
almost did like a split take youever seen those companies split
across the room? So I'm gonnasay like a spit take. And I was
like, There's no way this girlis 16. Well, she was so but
here's the here's theinteresting part. So we start
(17:28):
going into our, you know, westarted getting to our bio, so
to speak, right? Okay, so sheasked me hey, have you ever been
married? I said, No. Marry youguys got there quick. Right?
Yeah. About personal stuff.
Yeah,I mean, look, we're old. Oh,
well, no, but we're, we we got aYeah, we got time for. I tell
(17:53):
her no, I'm never married. Nokids. You know, I'm kind of a
unicorn out here. So I like tothink of myself always putting
the puzzle. And then she tellsme that she has. No, I see. No.
No. And I'm like, wow. And I'mthinking, Okay, this is this is
(18:13):
rare. Very rare. I can'tcomplain, or I can't cast any
aspersions because I've neverbeen married or have kids,
right. So it doesn't come up asa as a red flag to me. Okay. But
it is odd and it's rare. Okay.
(18:34):
So the night goes on, we dance alittle bit, blah, blah, blah. We
exchanged numbers, and that waspretty much it. Okay. So, the
next day. I'm talking to a buddyof mine. And he said, Hey, what
happened last night. I was like,Oh, I was talking to this girl,
blah, blah. You know, what shelooked like what she looked
(18:56):
like. So I had to find her onFacebook. I found her on
Facebook. That's Oh, man. She'skilled. What's the story? I say
she's 60. And I thought he wouldbe like, oh, man, come on, bro.
But no, he's like, wow, she'she's 40 something 40 Yeah, he
might be 41. Okay, so. So thatdoesn't really ringing alarms
(19:24):
for him, right? So I said, yeah, she's 60. And that's cool. I say
Yeah. What'd she say? Well,we'll set up today. Well, I
mean, now she's cool. She'snever been married and never
kissed. He's like, whoa, holdup. What?
I said no, I shouldn't havesacked him but
yes, like, abort. Abort. Don'tDon't Don't call her Don't text
(19:48):
her. Oh, my What? It's like shecrazy. Well, I never I kiss.
She's crazy. He goes to his WhenI don't know what friend was,
is, hey, if you met a chick over40 something, whatever, 45 never
been married, never had kids, what would you think? Oh, she
(20:09):
crazy dog. Soit was kind of a good thing,
right? Like, wouldn't you think?
In your mind, do you think, oh,it's kind of a good thing that
you have to deal with any kids?
And you could just be both. Yes,that
baggage. They're looking at itas like, like, a flag.
Something's wrong with her. Sowhere do these narratives come
(20:31):
where we get to our Middle Agesand with women, and it gives me
the same for men to wear. Nomarriage. No kids crazy. Men. No
kids gay now.
Yeah, I know. George Clooney.
Right. George Clooney. Yeah. Youknow, cool. Bachelor. Good
(20:52):
looking dating around.
He doesn't have kids. Oh,he got married. Oh, yeah. Yeah,
yeah. You know, after a while hegot and now I think he has kids
but right. So do you get that alot though. Or people?
Get I don't get I don't get thenews. Well, must be gay. Or at
(21:14):
least I've never heard of it. Idon't get that. But I have heard
that about other gentlemen.
Like, you know, my age or olderlike, well, what's what's wrong?
Like? Maybe he doesn't likewomen? Right? And but the women
it's always, you know, once youget past 445, like no marriage,
no kids. She's batshit. Crazy.
(21:37):
And I'm like that. I mean,obviously they're cute.
Did you call her You didn't callher?
No, I have not called her.
And is it because of thatdiscussion with your friends?
Oh, Ijust say yes. Say yes. Say yes.
Now your thing. Yeah. Now thatyou're saying she could be crazy
(21:59):
like I'm starting to think aboutlike, what was that movie with
Glenn Close where she boiled therabbit fatal attraction
so I just don't I don't I don'tbuy into that narrative is
crazy. Oh, yeah, very much sir.
stereotypes. And I you know,it's just like, types, right?
But it was just so funny. Thefront was like, she didn't care.
(22:22):
60 no marriage. No kids. Oh, myGod.
I think you should give her achance. A chance. We'll send you
just go out on one date.
TBD. Yeah. Well, we'll see. Ileave that as a teaser, a
(22:44):
cliffhanger. Did we'll go outwith this 60 year old woman with
no, never been married. No kidsBump, bump bump ball will say
Do you think people should?
Okay? When you get older? Shouldyou try to do things to make
your light? Should you dye yourhair? Or should you get Botox or
(23:05):
should you do things to makeyourself look younger?
Yes and no. Like, I'm all foryour mental well being and if
you feel like that makes it it'sgonna make you feel better.
(23:25):
Yeah. And give you moreconfidence. Yeah, yeah, you
know, confidence, do it. I dothink that people can go
overboard with it. And you needsomeone to tell you hey, you're
you're going a little too hardwith that, you know? But you
know, it's kind of like thiswhole ozempic thing is you know,
(23:51):
it's it's it's good that peoplecan get to having an
availability option to to gettheir weight down and feel
better about themselves. I thinkthat is a good thing. Just like
Botox and lip fillers orwhatever filler whatever you
want to do with yourself.
Plastic Surgery. I don't thinkit's a bad thing, but I think we
(24:15):
need to be careful about goingtoo far. Too far.
Like if I knew there were nothere were no side effects or
things and maybe, like open toeven like like, whitening your
teeth and I was like, oh, Ishould do it. But
I tell people all the time.
Don't be shocked when I comecome come come around. I got
(24:37):
brand new set of teeth. It'sgonna have the biggest way I
don't have bad teeth. I justthey're not terrible. They're I
mean, they're not. It's justlike anything else. Like, that's
so funny. It's like anythingelse? What you what what you See
(24:57):
in other what other people see,or it can be totally different.
You know what I mean? So for me,I've always wanted to have a big
white set of teeth. Now my teetharen't bad, but I always wanted
better teeth. And at some point,I'm just gonna do it. I'm just
gonna get veneers not tellinganybody and just show up. Thanks
