Music.
(00:04):
Welcome to midlife marauderswith will and max.
So let's jump into politics. Alot of stuff going on there, and
some mid lifersmaking a big having a big
presence in the political sceneas of late. Yeah, it's,
(00:24):
it's definitely changed thelandscape for sure. You know, we
had two very older gentlemen, and, you know, running and, you
know, obviously Biden hasdropped out. His VP, Kamala
Harris has stepped up, you know, and assume
59 Yeah, assume the thedemocratic mantle, and she has
(00:50):
chosenTim walls, is that? How you
pronounce his name? Walls as asher running mate.
He's what is on 60 or 60so, only a little bit older?
Yeah, that's crazy. Looks a lotolder than I know a lot of
people are talking about, yeah,I think she looks ageless, but
(01:10):
they're saying that it's alsokind of like a double standard,
right? Or it's kind of a change, because mostly people talk about
women's looks, looks, and all ofa sudden I talk, yeah, for sure.
I mean, we needed an injectionof youth, per se, into this
race. So I'm like I said, I'mglad that Biden dropped out, you
(01:31):
know, for health reasons. Idon't think he would have,
he would have made it, but, youknow, now we got Kamala, we got
walls, and they're 59 and 60respectively. So I think that's
good. I think that's good. Ithink that brings a different
dynamic to the race, not sayingif I'm Democratic or Republican,
(01:52):
butI guess you can kind of figure
it out. I like it how midlife isnow considered youthful, right?
Yeah. I mean, in this realm atleast, yeah, they're older than
both of us, so I'm feeling youngand Spry with this, like, hey,
butwe could be running the country.
(02:12):
Maybe we should be, for God'ssake, but I think it's cool. He
definitely wehad mentioned this before, but
he he definitely brings an olderlook, even though he's only one
year older than Kamala. I thinkhe said the white hair, yeah. I
think he said he, I think heattributed that to being like a
teacher at one point, he saidthe kids were really aged, yeah,
(02:41):
yeah, yeah. But I think it'sgood. I mean, you know, like we,
you know, we're coming off togeriatric presidents, two older
looking gentlemen, and I thinkit's good to have you know her,
with her being, you know, muchyounger than
Trump. So it gives a differentdynamic, but it also kind of
(03:03):
balances her out a little bit tohave an older looking man as her
as a run running mate. I thinkthat gives, will give some
people some comfort if you ifyou're willing to vote that way.
So I think it's good. I think itwas a good pick
for her. And so why do you thinkthat it'll give them comfort,
(03:24):
versus like somebody who's maybeyounger and and I don't know,
has more years of ahead of themin politics? Yeah, I just think
that just the way, you know, helooks, he looks like he's been
through some things. It lookslike he's got some experience,
not saying Kamala doesn't, butit just kind of gives almost no,
we're, like I said, we're comingfrom, like, grandfatherly
(03:47):
looking presidents and somepeople like that, you know. So I
think it's a good mix, eventhough they're only one year
apart. We're speaking just fromappearances. Like, you know,
she's, yeah, yeah, she Yeah, shelooks younger and, you know, he
looks older, so his youthexperience, age, whatever, just,
(04:07):
just from appearances. I know ifyou do it, you know, quick
little investigation. Oh, he'sonly one year older than her.
But, you know, people arevisual. They like to see that
kind of thing. Well, it is funnyhow nowadays your appearance
makes such a difference inpeople online or, you know, in
social media, they they have noqualms about, you know, speaking
(04:29):
out about, you know, kind ofcriticizing people for their
looks, which is horrible. Youknow, it's not about your
ability so much, right? It'sabout how you look on TV or on
video, for sure. I mean, that's,that's what social media is. It
was just a way for thethe unwashed to voice their
opinion, so to speak. Sopeople with a lot of time, well,
(04:52):
a lot of time, too much time ontheir hands. But yeah, I mean, I
think it's good. It's gonna bean interesting race.
I'm waiting for the debates.
I think this election, well, every election is super
important, but I think this iswill be an historic election for
(05:13):
sure, either way.
Well, we're a little late to theparty. We haven't done our
official Eminem review. You knowhim being a mid lifer as well. I
listened to it. It was good.
What you kind of expect fromhim? What do you like about it?
(05:34):
I mean, obviously his hisability to rap is always a
standout to me. He's, he's oneof the greatest that's ever done
it, or will ever do it. That's,that's really,
that's from you. That means alot, that surprises you. No, I
think, I think if you were tosay that somebody was a good
(05:57):
rapper, that means a lot. Oh,yeah. Well, he is, I mean, I
mean his work speaks for itself.
I mean, he's, he's up there.
He's, I don't know if you puthim on the Mount Rushmore of
rappers, but he, you know, henot on the Mount Rushmore?
(06:17):
No, because, not to me, because, although I recognize the quality
of his work, he just does it hiscatalog. To me, I don't listen
to enough Eminem's. I don't runback to a lot of Eminem songs.
You know what I'm saying? Like,my Mount Rushmore would be
somebody like, you know, I'mdoing something, driving around,
(06:38):
cleaning whatever. I was like,Oh man, I haven't heard,
you know, I really feel like a anice Eminem set a playlist would
be perfect right now, not evencleaning. I would do it for
cleaning like something I needto No, well, no
cleaning to me, we're gettingoff topic here, but cleaning to
(07:02):
me is yes, assuming Yeah, we'vealready talked about this for
sure, you know, like Eminem, Iwould need to be, like, getting
hyped, like going somewhere, going to a party, going to
whatever, you know, getting my,You know, being energetic. So,
but going back to my originalpoint, he is very good.
(07:26):
Sometimes I think he's too goodfor the masses, but that's
another story. But the album wasgood, the production. Production
was good to me. When I listenedto it, I immediately thought of
Dave Chappelle, and the reason why? The reason
why is because those are thethe entertainers that come to
(07:51):
mind to me that seem to bebucking cancel culture and his
his out different now than whenhe first came out, or, you know,
no, but it's not different. Butbecause of cancel culture,
people have had to change oradapt. They couldn't say the
(08:11):
things that they said years ago.
But Eminem doesn't care. He, youknow, you know he's saying,
like, this is his last album. Hedoesn't care anyway, and he's
not afraid of being canceled. Heactually says he can't be
canceled. It's kind of like DaveChappelle, is it really his last
album? That's what he said.
That's what he said. Just kindof, yeah. I mean,
(08:35):
you know, he's lucky. I was justwondering if he's gonna emerge
as some other have another AlterEgo. Oh, that was, you know,
that's actually a great idea,you know, because I don't think
we've ever had anybody do that.
You know, with with the hip hopculture, we tend to not
listen to or appreciate ourgreats when they get older, they
(08:59):
seem to get phased out once theyget in their 40s and 50s like
that. It's a verymicrowave kind of culture right
now. We want the new and fresh.
It's kind of not like rock orany other genres where, like,
you know, the who is stillperforming or Rolling Stones,
yeah, I mean, and they'reselling out stadiums. You know
(09:20):
what I mean. I you know people, older hip hop artists, they
still perform, but they're notselling out stadiums. They're
doing small days, small venues, that sort of thing, and people
are not going to see them inmass. It's a certain little
subculture of people that stillkind of appreciate them and will
go see them at small venues, youknow, like they're not doing,
(09:41):
like Wembley Stadium orsomething like that, like the
role of stones are doing.
But, uh, yeah, so he says his, this is his last album, um, you
know, again, he's, I mean, howdo you think he's coming? You
know, there's people, a lot ofpeople, putting mid lifers,
putting out, or even older, putting out.
New albums. Like, do you feellike this is on par with what
(10:02):
he's put out before? Oh, yeah, for sure. For sure. Like I said,
the production was there, thehis quality, his ability to rap
may have gotten better. I mean,do you feel like, do you feel
like he should have, you know,he almost protests too much
about like, oh, you know, Gen Zcalling him out for being on PC.
(10:25):
Do you think he should kind ofgrow up a little bit, you know?
I mean, I like the Eminem whoknelt at the Super Bowl, you
know. I like the Eminem who kindof, yeah, speaks out about Black
Lives Matter. And it seems likehe's kind of grown up. But in a
way, this album feels like he's,you know, he's still dissing
Christopher Reeves, you know, little people, to me that's
(10:48):
like, do you really need to, doyou really need that in order to
do an album, especially at 51 orhowever old he is?
I mean, I agree with you. Ithink he has grown up, but I
think there's a part of societythat still enjoys when he does
stuff like that. It's,you know, you know, maybe, maybe
(11:09):
this is hard to know if he's whoHe's appealing to, you know. I
mean, it is like deja, right?
People gonna get turned off.
Some people will like him more, right? I think, I think we're
being not true to ourselves.
Sometimes, I think when we'reamongst our loves, when loved
ones or close friends, or, youknow, whatever, we still, maybe,
(11:32):
I don't mean to speak for you,but we still kind of joke about
these things, you know, and we,you know, we, we're with our
trusted circle of friends that, you know, we're not running for
office or anything. So it's notlike it's going to get out. But
I think, I think that kind ofhumor is not the worst thing in
(11:54):
the world, because I thinkeverybody does it. They just
keep it to themselves. Now, ifyou say it's dangerous to put it
out role model. Well, who sayshe is, does he?
But that's they do, they do,don't you? No, yes, I agree with
(12:15):
you. His Relevancy is stillthere, but I don't think he
really cares about being a rolemodel. I don't think he really
cares, you know, you know, Idon't think he wants to be a
role model. I think he wants todo music. I think he wants to be
appreciated as a great artist, agreat rapper, a great musician.
But I don't think he caresabout, I mean, he's 50 plus
(12:37):
years old. I don't think, oh, hejust wants to say what he wants.
He wants. He doesn't want to becensored or, yeah, of course.
And I think that's just natural.
As we get older, we tend to saymore of what we want to say and
not care as much anymore. Sotrue too. I guess he doesn't
really care who his audience is.
He's just expressing himself asan artist, maybe 100% and you
(12:59):
know, if what he says is true,he's on his way out anyway, so
he doesn't care. But, uh, yeah,I thought it was good. Now,
again, this is what would yourate the album
out of what? One to 10. I'd giveit a, I'd give it a 7.5
(13:20):
No, that's good. Good. Not, notA, not A classic album, not, not
one that people are going to runto years from now. And you'd be
like, Oh, that was, that wastimeless. That was, you know, a
work of art, anything like that.
It was good, you know, you goback and listen to some tracks,
but it's not, you know, it's notsome shady or, you know,
(13:47):
or even, I even, like recovery,I'm trying to think of all
Eminem albums, but, uh,yeah, no, it was good. I think
it was. It was good in terms ofthe music and the rapping style,
or whatever. So I'd probablygive a seven, five or eight, but
I think just some of the,I think, especially, I think
that Christopher Reeves justbothers me. It's like, Come on,
(14:09):
just let it go. Well, I don'tknow. I read somewhere that I
read somewhere what? Whatsomebody asked him, and they
might have been a joke, like,Why do you keep Robertson,
Christopher Reeves? And he said, because it's easier to rhyme
something with Reeves, right?
It's just because of the run, yeah, you can figure something,
(14:30):
yeah, yeah, something else, yeah. He really, he said he
really didn't have anything todo with it, you know. And he
probably is trying to beprovocative and get people to
talk about it, but yeah, I feltlike that was in poor taste. But
anyways,anyways, I did think it was a
good album, and I actually mightgo back to it one day. Yeah, you
should, I don't know if it's nota clue, because I think it was
(14:53):
actually kind of complex, because he had a lot of
different styles of songs, andI.
Um, you know, the song dedicatedto his daughter, another song to
his daughter. So I thought thatwas, I like that. So I like the
variety on the album, and thathe's still, you know, I think he
is still putting stuff out, which is great, and stuff that's
kind of fresh.
(15:21):
Well, speaking of good projects, did you have a chance to see the
Deadpool and Wolverine movie? Idid, and another good showing of
mid lifers, right? Yes. Kudos tothem. Hugh Jackman, I think.
Yeah. Ryan Reynolds is 47 HughJackman's 55 a lot of cameos
(15:43):
from mid lifers. So what do youthink? I mean? Do you think it
appeals to a lot of differentage groups, or mostly people who
are nostalgic and are well,I think it appeals to,
obviously, Marvel comic bookfans,
(16:07):
kind of the contemporary onesare and kind of throwing back to
when Marvel first was startingwith the cameos and stuff like
that, it was a good movie.
It was a good movie. It wasentertaining to me. The cameos
were good. We'll touch on that.
I think the plot line was dumb,to be honest with you, but yeah,
(16:29):
there's always somethingsimilar. It feels like a lot of
the Marvel plot lines rely on,yeah, if anybody hasn't watched
it, there's going to bespoilers, spoilers, for sure,
butI thought it was good. I don't
the younger audience, notreally, not so much, unless
they're, like, comic book fanstween, my tween kid really like,
(16:53):
oh, okay, my older teen didn'tlove it. But my, I think,
because, you know, if there's alot of there's movies where
there's a lot of gore, but thiswas kind of like funny gore. So
he could, kind of, yeah, helaughed a lot. I laughed a lot.
But in between, maybe the 1516,year old didn't laugh. Them
(17:17):
year old and the 50 so year oldmom. What we I loved it, yeah. I
mean, I like the fight scenes. Iusually don't love fight scenes,
but I thought it was funny. Butyou really, you really talked
about that one scene, there weresome good kind of dramatic
scenes. And so, yeah, I mean,it's kind of sounds silly to
talk about great acting in aMarvel movie, but there that one
(17:39):
scene where they were in thecar, and
Wolverine was kind of dressingdown Deadpool about how he was
worthless, and couldn't evensay, you know, couldn't even
save his relationship with astripper and and all this other
stuff. I mean, that was some, ifyou go back and look at that,
that was some acting. He wasacting his butt off in that
scene. And, well, I think it's agreat pairing, right, to have,
(18:05):
you know, crazyMerc with the Mouth with, you
know, a very serious Wolverine, yeah, that kind of made it
comical, but also touching aswell, right? Two very different
personalities, for sure, forsure, in, like I said, good
movie. You know, the plot linewas kind of out there a little
bit, you know, whatdo you think of the cameos?
Cameos, awesome. I mean, thatthat really,
(18:30):
I wouldn't say, saved the moviefor me, but it really kind of
put it from, yeah, you know, good, decent movie to a great
movie.
It was good. I would love tosee,
you know, blade in it. You know,he kind of people rope, don't
really know this, but blade, that first blade movie was like
(18:54):
the firstprofitable movie for Marvel. It
wasn't called the MCU yet, butit was a Marvel movie, and that
kind of led into the Iron Manmovies and sort that sort of
thing. So, yeah, yeah. So, yeah.
I actually didn't really thinkYeah. So, so,
(19:17):
so it was good that theyhad him in the movie. They
brought him back. Yeah, well, you know,
Ryan Reynolds was in the thirdblade movie, which is not a good
movie, and him and Wesley, hewas in there as Deadpool or as
somebody. No, he was a differentcharacter. He was a Hannibal
(19:39):
King. I believe it was his name.
Butyou know, you heard many stories
about how they didn't really getalong on set at all. We're
talking Wesley Snipes and RonReynolds. So it was very, very
shocking that Wesley Snipes waseven in this move, because
there's a long his.
(20:00):
Three of them not liking eachother, and I think they even
referenced that. That was a jokein the movie.
And so that was good, and I'mglad they Yeah, there are a lot
of insights, yeah, yeah. Two,two midlife men got over, you
know, prior beef, or whateveryou want to call it, from
another movie, and we're able topass that together. And I've
seen pictures of them smiling.
They have like a Green Lanterncard, yeah, yeah. And then, you
(20:23):
know, Jennifer Garnercame back as a lecturer.
Yeah, that was great. That wasgood.
Who else? How old is ChanningTatum? 44 Channing Tatum now,
40 Yeah, 43 Yeah. Theinteresting thing about Channing
(20:44):
Tatum is he played Gambit, andthat's a role that he wanted to
play many, many years ago, butthat project kind of fell
through. So this was his time tofinally play that character. And
I think, I thought he did a goodjob.
Yeah, and you know, he got goodpress on that, so maybe yeah,
they're talking about, yeah, they're talking about him doing
(21:07):
a gambit project. And obviouslygood Chris Evans
made a cameo. And everybodythought he was going to be one
character, but he he playedanother character that he played
before he played CaptainAmerica. So that was, that was
humorous. That was very that wasvery cute, yeah. I was totally
(21:29):
confused, yeah. So it was good.
It was very good. I thought HughJackman, outtakes at the end.
Yeah. That was good.
Hugh Jackman. He gives me, uhhope and uh inspiration,
because, you know, he's a 55year old man, and you know, I'm
working on my fitness and goalsand all that stuff, and just
(21:51):
look at him now. I'll neverI'm hearing that was his real
body for sure. Yeah, wow. Yeah.
So, yeah, I like his singingvoice.
He was a Greatest Showmusical guy. Yeah,
watching that. But now good forwould you rate the movie out of
(22:14):
10?
I'd get out of give it a I giveit an EIGHT. Not give it an
EIGHT. I'll give an eight. Someof the things were kind of
silly, yeah, at least an eight, maybe 8.5 Well, yeah, it's up,
yeah. And I'm not like a Marvelaction person. Anyhow, what's up
there? It's definitely, I wouldgo see it again if you know
(22:36):
somebody wanted to see it. Andthat's how I it. Was one of
those things that's good to seein the theater, I think a big
screen, 100% 100% but Idefinitely go see it again. You
know, there's with those type ofmovies, there's always something
you didn't catch why you saw thefirst time. So being a Marvel
and comic, and there was a lotof dialog, it was quick, quick,
(22:56):
quick, yeah, yeah. I definitelysee it again.
So did you watch the Olympics?
I did watch the Olympics.
You know, it's, it was good, youknow, I, I think that's probably
(23:19):
the most Olympics I've everwatched, be honest with you.
Like, because Snoop was on, no,I mean, what do you think about
Snoop, you know, and flavor, flav, and, you know, other mid
lifers who are kind of or TomCruise right, mid or later than
midlife folks showing up. Like,do you think that boosted the
(23:40):
ratings made people moreinterested? You know, what
demographic were they reallytrying to target? I was
entertained by Snoop a couple oftimes, but
he didn't make or break theOlympics to me. I mean, it is
what it is. It's just okay.
They're they're paying this manhalf a million dollars a day is
(24:01):
what I'm reading.
What he got. I'm like, yeah, nowonder he did it, yeah, no. No
wonder he was everywhere, youknow, at all the events,
um, it looked good for him, because everybody loves him. So
that's why he was a good person.
Good ambassador is we want tocall him an ambassador? Yes,
(24:21):
exactly. Okay. I I thought itwas cute. It was cute, cute. I
thought it was funny. I thought, you know, good for him. It
didn't add any value to me. Itdidn't.
It really didn't. So I wouldhave watched it and enjoy. You
know, the mid lifers wererepresented, right? Because, you
(24:43):
know, for the most part, asathletes your career, you know,
you're not going to be in theOlympics unless you're, of
course, like, 30s or under, right? Yeah, yeah, no, at least
we had some rotation. Well, notonly we had, you're that
shooter, the Turkish shooter, right? Yeah. Like, you.
Was 51 on the silvermill. But yeah, you know, Snoop.
(25:04):
Flavor Flav, yeah. Flavor Flav, how old is he
gonna be in his 60s, right? 65I would say, yeah, probably late
50s, for sure.
What sport did he support?
(25:25):
Was it women's water polo? Sothat was, like, a public
relations thing. I thought thatwas cool. I thought that
definitely brought moreattention to women's water polo,
because I don't think that's avery popular sport, but,
you know, compared to some ofthe other ones. So I thought
that was great. A littlecrossover. No, it was good.
(25:46):
You know, shout out to snoop.
Shout out to Flavor Flav. Shoutout to any, any of our Celine
Dion singing in the opening. AndI also thought, did you watch
basketball like I thought DwayneWade did a great job
commentating, and he's early40s. What did you think of the
Turkish shooter, since he's oneof the mid lifers who actually
(26:09):
competed. So he got a lot ofpress, right? Yeah, yeah. He got
a lot of press just because hedidn't, he didn't have the, I
don't really want to even saythe the equipment, or, you know,
everybody else had, like, like, he just rolled up with
his, you know, midlife glasses, and just, you know, had his hand
(26:32):
in his pocket, his off hand wasshooting at targets, and got the
silver so good for him, man. Andthere's a whole Yeah, he got a
lot of Yeah. Got a lot of mediawas covering him, yeah, good
friend. My kids were like, hey, yeah, we saw that guy. He was
cool, right? So we got a greatmeme out of it. So hey, I'm all
for that. Yeah. So shout out tohim. Yay. Good job. But I wish
(26:54):
we had a little bit more. Iguess we can't, because it's an
athletic endeavor, but I wish wehad a little more midlife
representation, like, do you?
Can't you be Tom Cruiserappelling down, you know, for
the closing ceremonies? Yeah, was that for a movie? It just
(27:14):
looked kind of silly, yeah, I just think he they were
trying to add excitement, because it's going to Hollywood.
You know, the next Olympics aregoing to be in LA, I thought,
Celine Dion, I don't know if yougot to see her perform at the
end of the opening ceremony, andshe was, I guess, in the Eiffel
Tower, and it was superpowerful, because I guess she's
got, you know, an illness, andshe was just amazing. And I'm
(27:37):
not a huge Celine Dion fan, butshe's mid 50s. She's probably
our age. Yeah, no, for sure, made me kind of learn more about
her. And are we ready to throwLeBron in midlife category? Is
he midnight? He's getting upthere, right? Yeah. Is he 40
yet? Not yet, right?
(27:58):
He is 39 No, he's not quitethere. He'll be there. His
birthday is in December. Shoutout to LeBron. Well, that was a
lot of the the like, who, who isit? You know, their last
Olympics, right? You hear that alot. This is going to be their
last Olympics. Oh, that wasDiana. Diana Taurasi, she's 40
(28:18):
she's 42 you know Diana? Yeah, she's on the women's race. They
were talking about like shedidn't play at all on in the
final, right? In the final, didshe play a little bit at the
beginning? No, I don't think sheplayed it all in the final. She
played all up to that pointsparingly, but she played, but
(28:39):
she's more like a leader, kind of a coach out on the
floor, you know, obviously, justbeing her six gold medal or six,
yeah, that's amazing. That isamazing. So shout out to her
and, you know, and LeBron havewas showing some gray in his
beard. That was kind ofsurprising.
(29:04):
Well, we are getting old 3939but yeah, it was, it was,
you know, it's amazing, and towatch the basketball,
yeah, yeah, soccer, right?
Women's Soccer was, it was agood game, too.
Another highlight, yeah, man, another highlight. Did you end
up watching the breaking?
Because I didn't watch Breaking.
(29:28):
No, but I did. I have seen clipsof the Australian woman who
competed in it. And if you havenot seen Do yourself a favor.
Do yourself to the kangaroodown.
Oh my gosh. Well, you know, theyalready came out and said
there's no breaking in the nextOlympics. Now I don't know if
that's because, yeah, it will not be in the
(29:50):
2028, Olympics. Well, there'scontroversy, right? Because
they're saying the whole thingabout breaking or break dancing
is that it shouldn't.
Be so scripted or, you know, people shouldn't be able to it
should be more following. Iguess it's a So, it's an
athletic endeavor. It's not anit's not Olympics. For it to me
(30:13):
so, and this is coming from akid who grew up in the era when
breakdancy was really, reallypopular and tried it. Did you
bring you know, you tried it, of course, of
course. Did you spin on everykid? No. I mean, I certainly
attempted it, but it wasn't verygood. I mean, you know, I tried
(30:36):
everything, windmilling,everything, popping and locking
everything. I mean, had, youknow, I have my cardboard box
and we go down to my friend'suh, basement and work on our
routine and work on our musicCollege. No, no, this is, this
is in the 80s. Isn't thatinteresting? That breakdown has
(30:58):
been around that long? Yeah,yeah,
you used to be a B boy. What isit?
I've never really heard thatterm will be, I don't think you
should admit that Max, becausethat's not very cool if you
(31:19):
didn't know what b boy is, butyou have time to educate
yourself for the next, nextround of Olympics. But, yeah,
yeah, but they're not gonna haveit. Well, that's true. That's
true. Well, maybe they'll do, Idon't know. Maybe that's like
(31:39):
twerking. I shouldn't say thatthat's not that'll never be an
Olympic sport, but I would watchit, though.
