We’re back—and Will’s marauding with his new Dominion Road Podcast. Then it’s all on the table: has Travis lost his rizz, or is he marrying up with the Swelce engagement? We get into how Snoop’s old-school take on gay marriage has lande him in hot water, whether brands are overcorrecting on representation in commercials, and why Pedro Pascal keeps delivering—even if Fantastic Four was kinda meh.

Thanks for listening--keep on marauding!

SPEAKER_02 (00:00):
Max, how have you been marauding lately?
Have you been doing any type ofmarauding?

SPEAKER_00 (00:05):
That is a good question.
I

SPEAKER_02 (00:08):
guess

SPEAKER_00 (00:09):
it depends on what you call marauding.
I mean, I took this trip back tothe East Coast with my kids, and
we basically saw every friendthat we wanted to see.
I mean, not everybody becausesome people were away, but we
packed in so much on this trip.
We were there for two weeks, andso I feel like that was

(00:30):
marauding in a sense that wereally were able to catch up
with people.
I went downtown to Seattle towatch, you know, we watched Josh
Johnson, the comedian.
So that was kind of, you know, Iremember this is kind of as you
get older, sometimes when youhave an evening engagement or
you have to go into the city,it's kind of like, you know,

(00:51):
there's a part of you that'slike, I just want to stay home.
But then when you do it, you'rehappy that you did it and you
feel like, you know, youaccomplished something.
thing you know I think you and Ihave talked about that before so
I would say that's marauding andyou know there's some other
little things that I've done butmostly I would say those two are
some big things just kind ofstill continuing to go out and

(01:15):
although you know when we wentout it was like a 4 p.m.
show so we're kind of excitedabout that exactly like we're I
wonder if we're getting towardsthose you know I got to go to
the five o'clock you know go tothe buffet Oh, no, no,

SPEAKER_02 (01:39):
no, don't say that.

(02:00):
golf tournament in Maryland.
It's one of the PGA kind of likeend of the season tournaments.

SPEAKER_00 (02:11):
Had you never been to a tournament?
Is this your first one?

SPEAKER_02 (02:14):
This is my first PGA tournament.
I've been to a couple live golfevents, but this is like the
kind of the semifinals of theyear-end kind of championship.
And it was right out side ofBaltimore.
I had a couple of friends thatsaid, hey, you want to go?
I got a ticket for you and allthe other good stuff.

(02:39):
It was super cool.
It was like VIP access.
We can go to any of thehospitality tents.
It was all you could eat, allyou could drink.

SPEAKER_00 (02:51):
Wait, how did you get the VIP?
Did you just have to pay for it?
No, I didn't

SPEAKER_02 (02:55):
pay anything.
I had a hookup.
I think one of the girls thatwas there, she was She works for
one of the company that has acorporate sponsor.
Of

SPEAKER_00 (03:04):
course it was fun because you had the VIP.

SPEAKER_02 (03:08):
Yeah, the VIP.
And I wore that out.
I ate and drank everything thatI could.
But the kicker was, you know, obviously if it's a golf event,
it's during the day.
So we had to wake up superearly, drive all the way out to
Baltimore.
And, you know, we started, youknow, we watched golf,
obviously, but a lot of time wasspent in the hospitality team.

(03:30):
But they had like a Casamigosbar there.
Oh, nice.

SPEAKER_00 (03:36):
So it was about the whole experience, not just
watching the golf, right?

SPEAKER_02 (03:39):
Not just watching.
Yeah, I could care less aboutthe golf.
But it was good golf to watch.
You know, you got to see likeScotty Shuffler and all the good
guys over there.

SPEAKER_01 (03:49):
Oh, nice.

SPEAKER_02 (03:49):
But then we went to a Nats game afterwards.

SPEAKER_00 (03:55):
Wow, you packed it in.

SPEAKER_02 (03:57):
Yeah, the Nats game was at four.
So So that was a whole, so wedrove back, drove back to DC
and, you know, I watched alittle bit of baseball.
Again, we were in the clublevel.
So everything's just laid outbeautiful, blah, blah,

SPEAKER_00 (04:13):
blah.
So these are the same people, like one group went from one
place to another?
Okay.

SPEAKER_02 (04:17):
Correct, correct.
And, you know, it was aroundlike six, seven o'clock and I
was like, I am really, reallytired.
I'm just not built for thatanymore.
You know, I love a good daypark.
But when you start at 7.30,that's a little bit too much.
So we wound up driving back andthey begged me to go out to a

(04:42):
bar for a couple of cocktails.
And I had like one beer and Iwas

SPEAKER_00 (04:47):
done.

SPEAKER_02 (04:47):
You were done.
I was done.
I was in bed by 8 p.m.

SPEAKER_00 (04:52):
Oh, that's pretty good.
I mean, that's still 12 hours,

SPEAKER_02 (04:55):
right?
Yeah, yeah.
And yeah, it was a great day.
It was a really great day.
But it was something that thereason why I would say it's
marauding is because, you know,10 years ago, five years ago, I
wouldn't have done that.
I don't have a golf tournament.
You know, are you kidding me?
That's no fun.
But since I've become obsessedwith golf and I enjoy a good day

(05:19):
party as opposed to an eveningparty now, you know, plus it
being VIP, who am I to turn thatdown?

SPEAKER_00 (05:28):
So it's new experiences.

SPEAKER_02 (05:29):
It was very new experiences.
experience very new experiencebut as far as uh other marauding
activities i

SPEAKER_00 (05:36):
want to talk about the big one

SPEAKER_02 (05:37):
the big one well i uh for our midlife marauders out
there i do have i am involvedinvolved in another podcast it's
called dominion road podcast anduh that

SPEAKER_00 (05:54):
you know i'm gonna use these

SPEAKER_02 (05:55):
i know yeah go go for it i love it um that is
another Thank you so much forhaving me.

(06:17):
best friends since then.
And it's, it's sort of similarto, to us a little bit more on
the male perspective and alittle, you know, we, we, we are
very vulnerable in that in asense that, you know, our
perspective is, you know, we,as, as black men, we're all,

(06:38):
we're all African-American, butyou know, we didn't grow up
sharing or being vulnerable orreally talking about Like
opening up, yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (07:17):
So tell me more about how you came up with the
name and like, did you guys justdecide one day, have you been
talking about this for a while?
Is it because of our podcast?
You thought, Hey, let's do, youknow, I'm going to do this with
some friends too.
Like tell me all the backstory.

SPEAKER_02 (07:30):
Well, the genesis of it was, you know, obviously
these gentlemen are fans of thispodcast.
When we had Frank on,

SPEAKER_01 (07:40):
shout

SPEAKER_02 (07:41):
out to Steve and Darren and Moyne.
When we had Frank Moyne onthere, That was a super good
episode.
If you haven't seen it, go checkit out.
That was kind of the genesis ofit.

SPEAKER_00 (07:56):
Oh, because he didn't want to stop talking.
He realized he liked it, right?
He liked the format.
He was good.
Yeah,

SPEAKER_02 (08:03):
he was very good.
And they kind of talked about itand talked to me about it.
And me having the experience ofdoing the podcast, they wanted
to lean on that for whateverthat's Yeah, you guys started up

(08:28):
quickly, though.
I'm going to walk away, youknow, from Midlife Marauders.

(08:51):
I'm going to

SPEAKER_00 (08:51):
do both.
You better not.

SPEAKER_02 (08:55):
And yeah, you know, we're going to, I'm going to
talk about each podcast on theother podcast and kind of keep,
you know, get both kind ofintertwined and connected to
each other and that sort ofthing.
So yeah, that's, that's where weare with it right now.

SPEAKER_00 (09:11):
So tell me about the name.
Like, how did you come up withthe name?
Oh,

SPEAKER_02 (09:14):
Midlife.
I'm sorry.
Dominion Road.
I tell you, Max, that wassomething that when we first
talked about it, we agonizedover it.
And that was one that was

SPEAKER_00 (09:26):
thrown out there.
It's like old Dominion, likeVirginia.

SPEAKER_02 (09:28):
Well, no, Dominion Road is, okay, when we lived
with each other after UVA, welived on Dominion Road in
Virginia.
So that's where that name comesfrom.
We had a house there.
And that was thrown out early.
as far as the names.
And at first, I didn't like it.

(09:52):
I didn't like it one bit, to behonest with you.
It had some sort of religiousconnotations, and I'm not
speaking against

SPEAKER_00 (09:59):
religion.
It makes me think of like abrewing company or something.
Oh.
Old Dominion Brewing Company.
Yeah, yeah,

SPEAKER_02 (10:06):
yeah.
Well, everything in Virginia iskind of Dominion anyway.
Yeah.
You know, the old DominionState.
But I didn't really care for it.
But when we were banteringaround like names and stuff, it
just seemed to fit becausebecause that was kind of like,
you know, where we all were inone place together and we all

(10:28):
had, you know, sharedexperiences and that sort of
thing.
So it grew on me.
And then we just decided to gowith that name.

SPEAKER_00 (10:36):
Well, I really feel like that is like the good
example of marauding, you know,in midlife because you guys just
decided all of a sudden.
And you really are put, youknow, I listened to the first
two episodes and you guys, Imean, I love all the laughter
and the jokes and the Right.
You guys are already naturals, Ithink.

SPEAKER_02 (10:56):
Well, thank you.
I'm not going to lie to you,Max.
We had a couple of practiceepisodes that were not very
good.
Yeah.
It took the guys to, it took acouple of episodes for all of us
to get comfortable.
Like for me, you know, likedoing this podcast, you know,

(11:17):
I'm already like sharing mylife, my stories, you know,
being somewhat vulnerable onhere.
But for them, it was, they hadto get used to a little bit
more, get more comfortable.

SPEAKER_00 (11:29):
Right.
It definitely takes some time.

SPEAKER_02 (11:31):
100%.
And with that one, we're, We'rehaving discussions on how we can
be more open.
And, you know, when you do apodcast, you have to be willing
to put yourself out there and,you know, some things

SPEAKER_00 (11:48):
you say.
And share about your personallife.
And

SPEAKER_02 (11:50):
share.
Yeah.
But you can't worry about whatother people think.
You know what I mean?
Obviously, you want people tolike it and enjoy it.
But you can't worry about, youknow, there's always going to be
people that love it and there'salways always going to be some
people that don't like what youtalk about or don't like it at
all.
And my advice to them is like, Idon't really care if the people

(12:14):
like it or not.
I just want them to listen andwatch.
Even the haters will listen andwatch.
You know what I mean?
So we're trying to get views.
We're trying to get subscribersand likes just as we are on this
podcast.
And we want to entertain andmake good content and obviously

(12:37):
please as many people aspossible.
But in the end, you want to havea product that people want to
come back to and and watch andlisten.
And, you know, obviously we'renot trying to offend anybody.
But for, you know, for them, youknow, they're thinking about
their families, you know, theirwives,

SPEAKER_00 (12:59):
their kids.
How much they can say abouttheir spouses.
You notice I don't talk thatmuch about my husband

SPEAKER_02 (13:04):
on here.
Right, exactly.
So, yeah, that's an adjustment, but we're getting better, just
like we did here.
You know, some things we won'ttalk about, you know, But we'll
be as open as we possibly can.
And, yeah, that's where we areright now with it.

SPEAKER_00 (13:26):
Let's talk about Tay Tay and Trav, right?

SPEAKER_01 (13:31):
Is that big news?

SPEAKER_00 (13:32):
That's huge news.
I didn't find out.
I'm not like checking my phoneall the time.
And so I found out about it,like somebody posted something
on LinkedIn.
So I was really late, like fivehours after the announcement.
But I guess, you know, peoplelike, you know, I read some of,
you know, some people werecrying, you know, just like,
like, like, I don't even knowthese people, but I'm so happy

(13:52):
for them, you know, I mean, because the fans are just, you
know, so in to the relationshipand they just love Taylor Swift,
right?
The Swifties.
So it's interesting, right?
And I think it's one of thesethings that we have so much bad
news these days.
So just having something that'skind of positive, you know, and

(14:13):
hopeful and, you know, it's kindof, it's like the fairy tale,
right?
And so it's kind of fun.
You know, some people are sayingthis is like the U.S.
royal wedding.
Oh, okay.
What?
They're saying it's like theU.S.?
Like the American royal wedding.
I mean, think about how popularshe is, you know, how popular
Taylor Swift is.
And then you've got a chief, youknow, so.

(14:33):
Okay.

SPEAKER_02 (14:35):
Well, let me, I know that she's popular, but she's
not ever on my radar.
I'm never thinking, wow.
We

SPEAKER_00 (14:46):
talked about her though, in our podcast before.
We were there at the beginning.

SPEAKER_02 (14:53):
Right.
For me, I listen, Hey,congratulations to them both.
I wish them nothing but ahealthy marriage and whatever,
beautiful life, whatever.
I don't get the whole hypearound it.
I'll tell you what, though.
I have to be honest.

(15:14):
I look at pictures of them.
And I actually get sad, to

SPEAKER_00 (15:20):
be honest.
Why?
For Travis or for her or for

SPEAKER_02 (15:23):
what?
For Travis.

SPEAKER_00 (15:25):
This is our same conversation that we had

SPEAKER_02 (15:27):
before.
I'm going to bring it back up.
I see a man.
Clearly, he's happy, right?
He must be.
I mean, no one's putting a gunto his head.

SPEAKER_00 (15:41):
It's like the understatement of the year.
He's

SPEAKER_02 (15:47):
happy.
He's marrying up.

SPEAKER_00 (15:48):
He's marrying up.

SPEAKER_02 (15:50):
In some respects, yes.
In some respects, I would beg todiffer.
I just look at a man, andlisten, Travis Kelsey, to me,
has been one of those guys, hisswag was always on point for me.
Mm-hmm.

(16:11):
I'm not jealous of men oranything like that, but man, he
just seemed like he was swaggedout all the time.
He

SPEAKER_00 (16:20):
was super cool.
He never changed, right?
That's good.
It's not like she changed him, right?

SPEAKER_01 (16:24):
Well,

SPEAKER_02 (16:27):
hold on.
This is pre-TayTay now.
I'm not talking about sincereengagement.
I

SPEAKER_00 (16:36):
wasn't following him before that.

SPEAKER_02 (16:39):
I see that.
I was.
So I'm looking at him and likeInstagram and paparazzi photos.
And I just see a guy that lookssuper cool.
He was fashionable.
You know, you know, his haircutwas always on point.
His clothes were always onpoint, you know?

(17:00):
And I was like, man, he, he, he,he, he's swaggy.
He's, he's got, he's got that, that riz as the kids would say.

SPEAKER_00 (17:07):
Yeah.
There is right.
Yeah.
A

SPEAKER_02 (17:09):
hundred percent.
No, I, at him.
It looks like she has sucked allthe riz out of him.
All the swag is gone.
He looks like a basic dude now.

SPEAKER_00 (17:23):
You think his style has changed a

SPEAKER_02 (17:25):
lot?
Oh, for sure.

SPEAKER_00 (17:26):
Are you kidding me?

SPEAKER_02 (17:28):
His haircut is generic.
His clothes are not swagged outlike they

SPEAKER_00 (17:35):
used to be.
He's like acting.
He's in movies.
He was in Happy Gilmore.

SPEAKER_02 (17:40):
Oh, another point.
I have yet to see that movie.
People have been telling me thatI should.
It's nostalgic.
It's not good, I've heard, butit's

SPEAKER_00 (17:49):
nostalgic.
Yeah, it's just nostalgic.
Yeah, and there's a lot ofcameos.
Yeah, a

SPEAKER_02 (17:52):
lot of cameos.
And it's golf.
It's golf, right.
I should want to watch it, butfor some reason I just don't
have the gumption to watch it.
But I will.
I will get around to it.
But getting back to Travis verybriefly, he just looks like the
life he's been sucked out of.
Now, it's a different life,right?

(18:13):
And I get that.
But I just don't

SPEAKER_00 (18:16):
see the same thing.
He's going to marry the biggestpop star in the world.

SPEAKER_02 (18:19):
And good for him.
I probably would do the samething, too.
If I married Tay-Tay, I'dprobably look like the biggest
square dude you've ever seen inyour life.
But hey, if that's what...
He just went from a man orcelebrity or athlete that would
just look swagged out to just abasic regular dude

SPEAKER_00 (18:44):
now.
Oh, he's in love.
I listened to some of thepodcasts where they, um, where
she was on, you know, the Kelseybrothers podcast.
And it was, it was good.
You know, I had never reallylistened to her.
I guess she was never on apodcast, but you know, they're
very different, I think, but Ithink somehow it works.
So I like it.
I feel like they're kind ofequals.

SPEAKER_02 (19:03):
All right.
Are you not, you're not in thecamp that's saying that she is
selling like magic marryingdown?

SPEAKER_00 (19:12):
I mean, I think it's hard for her to find somebody
who is her equal, you know?

SPEAKER_02 (19:17):
Right.
But you feel like he's marryingup, right?

SPEAKER_00 (19:20):
I do.
But nobody could match her.
Who else can match her, right?
It would be hard to findsomebody who...
And I think it's good she kindof went outside of her industry,
like not in the music industry, you know?
He's not in Hollywood, you know?
So it's kind of good.
He's got his own career and he'sdone well in sports.

(19:44):
And so it's kind of different.
And that's the whole thing.
I think the announcement waslike the English teacher is
marrying the gym teacher.
So it's like coming from twodifferent worlds.
Right.
So that's cute.

SPEAKER_02 (19:55):
Yeah, good for them.
All the blessings I can give,I'm giving to them.
Nothing but a wonderful life.
I

SPEAKER_00 (20:04):
value your perspective, Will.
I'm glad we got to talk aboutit.

SPEAKER_02 (20:09):
Just keep a little swag, Travis.
That's all I ask for.
Don't let it take it all from

SPEAKER_01 (20:16):
you.

SPEAKER_02 (20:17):
In more celebrity news, Max, have you heard about
the Snoop Dogg

SPEAKER_00 (20:23):
cut?
Only a bit.
You can tell me more about whatyou've heard.
I read a couple articles aboutit, but I wasn't tracking that
much on it and seeing all thevenom from people online.
Tell me your thoughts on it.

SPEAKER_02 (20:39):
Apparently, he He took his grandson, one of his
grandsons to a movie.
In this movie, I guess it's akid's movie.
Yeah, it's called Lightyear.
I

SPEAKER_00 (20:51):
think it's a spinoff of Toy Story.

SPEAKER_02 (20:54):
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
So apparently there's a scenewhere with two mothers, two
women have a child.
And this confused the grandson.
And he asked Snoop, hey, how aretwo women having a kid?

(21:15):
And I guess there was a kissingscene in the movie as well.
And Snoop is like, he didn'twant to answer because he didn't
know how to answer.
And, you know, he basically saidthat he's finding it difficult
or can't go to a movie anymorebecause these kind of issues are
coming up in like kid movies.

(21:36):
And he's like, I can't even goto the movies anymore.
And that, that like wascontroversial, you know, against
the LGBTQ community and all thatother good stuff.
He shouldn't have said that, butI do find, you know, I try to
put myself in that position aswell.

(21:56):
Like how, how would I explain toa kid that we're, you know,
we're watching an animatedmovie, you know, and there's,
two mothers, two women that havea son.
I wouldn't want to have thatdiscussion with a little kid
like that.
We're trying to watch thischildren's movie.

(22:18):
I kind of

SPEAKER_00 (22:19):
get that.
Yeah, but why?
But why?
Love is love.
I mean, it's a relationship justlike a heterosexual one.
What I think is interesting, okay, he's 53 years old, right?
He's a little bit younger thanus.
I feel like he was older, butanyhow, but he's 53 years old.
So I think it just shows thatsome people our age are still I

(22:40):
don't want to say old school butyou know he was in the movie old
school wasn't he but I justthink there's different beliefs
right belief systems you knowhe's getting people are mad
because he supported Trump or hewent you know and performed at
the inauguration so you knowthere's this whole is he MAGA is
he right wing is he whatever youknow like is he more

(23:01):
conservative so if that's whathe believes then that tracks
right I mean I think what's sadis that he couldn't just say to
his grandson, hey, let's talkabout it later, and then maybe
he could educate himself a bit,you know, and kind of come up
with a better answer than like,oh, no, you know, come on.

SPEAKER_02 (23:17):
Well, for me, it's like, even if he did, even if he
felt the way that he felt, hedidn't have to make it public.
You know what I mean?
What is he doing by making itpublic?
Is he, is that a protest initself?

SPEAKER_00 (23:34):
No, I think, you know, I think people, you know,
I think, you know, think aboutit.
We, if you have your ownpodcast, you can edit it however
you see fit.
Right.
But if you're on somebody else'spodcast and you're signing away
kind of your rights and they canput it on there.
And so maybe he wasn't thinking, you know, and he, and he didn't
expect it to blow up.
Right.
But I mean, as a public figure,he should probably be a little

(23:56):
bit expecting it.
Right.
Right.
Expecting it.
But, you know, people areprobably, you know, the person
who was interviewing him wasprobably like, this is going to
be great.

SPEAKER_02 (24:05):
That's a goal Right.
I

SPEAKER_00 (24:14):
kind of

SPEAKER_02 (24:19):
understand a little bit about what he was saying
because, hey, if it was like anadult movie or...
Maybe something like PG-13 orsomething like that.
Okay, maybe I understand, butlike...

SPEAKER_00 (24:36):
What?
PG-13?

SPEAKER_02 (24:40):
I mean, something a little bit more mature.
An older kid, we could have thiskind of dialogue a little bit
more about.

SPEAKER_00 (24:50):
I don't know.
I think that's saying that youthink that, or that's saying
that something's wrong withsame-sex.
Yeah, I could I don't understandwhy you would think that.

SPEAKER_02 (25:00):
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I can understand that.
Well, okay, let me try to cleanit up a little bit so people
don't go after me.
I think even in a heterosexualsense, that's something that
probably needs to stay out ofanimated movies.
Kissing?

(25:22):
Well, yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (25:25):
Or like French kissing or something?
I

SPEAKER_02 (25:30):
didn't watch the movie.
I don't know.
I don't know.
It's just, for me, it would belike, this kid's so young.
I just don't really want, Idon't think this is the time and
place to have that kind ofconversation.
But I could be completely wrong.
I think

SPEAKER_00 (25:47):
he should have still talked to the kid at some point,
you know, and even whether it'sexplaining his own feelings, you
know, the kid was being curious, you know.
I just think it makes me thinkof even though he's 53 in our
age, it makes me think ofsomebody older who, you know,
who has these old schoolthoughts and just still

(26:07):
disagrees with same sexmarriage, same sex
relationships, you know?
And so that's why I thought oflike, oh, he's just some old
dude.
And I thought he was moreprogressive or whatever, you
know, but.
Well,

SPEAKER_02 (26:17):
I guess that's me too, man.
I

SPEAKER_00 (26:23):
guess so.
And I think also maybe it'spartly like, do you have gay
friends?
You know, maybe that's also partof he, maybe he's not, you know,
He doesn't have any gay friends.
Which would be crazy, him beingin the entertainment industry.

SPEAKER_02 (26:37):
Again, I'm not knocking gay love or anything of
that nature.
I just don't know.
I need to spend some more timethinking about it.
It also makes me think aboutthis too, Max.
I couldn't help but kind of putthat...
Well, that's not in the samecategory, but it made me think
about...

(26:57):
You ever notice...
When you see a commercial now...
And it's always about a coupleor a married couple.
It's always interracial.

SPEAKER_00 (27:09):
Yeah, I was actually going to make that example.
Like, what if it was aninterracial

SPEAKER_02 (27:13):
couple?
Or a gay couple.

SPEAKER_00 (27:15):
Right, because we're all supposed to be woke.
It's like woke branding, youknow, woke advertising, right?
Yeah, but is

SPEAKER_02 (27:25):
it patronizing now?
I'm not saying it's too much, but is it like...
What's the word?
Aggradizing?
I can't remember what

SPEAKER_00 (27:36):
it is.
Aggrandizing.

SPEAKER_02 (27:37):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (27:38):
I like it because I feel like it makes different
relationships and situationsseem normal.
That we're not going to make abig deal out of it.
If you think about, take awaythe same sex part, think about,
like you're saying, interracial.
There was a time where youcouldn't marry somebody outside

(27:58):
of your race.
Correct.
Would you say if there was amovie about that and a kid's
movie and like me and myhusband, my husband's white and
we're kissing, that should belike banned, you know?
So it's the same to me, it's thesame thing.
And to me, the more that they, and this is, you know, we
earlier, we were talking aboutthe Sydney Sweeney thing is that
people want to see more of whatthey look like on TV and ads.

(28:22):
And I think, you know, advertising companies maybe have
gone the other way.
I think the pendulum swang, swung, you know, but I think as
a person of color, or if youwere, um, I think it would be
kind of reassuring andcomforting that we're seeing
this on TV and then we seepeople like us.

(28:42):
I

SPEAKER_02 (28:43):
can understand why you feel that way.
I'm going to tell you somethingthough.
I've talked to several membersof an older generation about
this.
How old?

SPEAKER_00 (28:59):
Like five years older than us.
No, no,

SPEAKER_02 (29:02):
no, no.
60s, 70s, and 80s.
Let's just say that, okay?

SPEAKER_00 (29:06):
Okay, yeah.

SPEAKER_02 (29:08):
And it's big.
Yes.
All that has become moreaccepting, and it shouldn't be
an issue, right?
But it's also to the pointwhere, where are we seeing
instances or opportunities forBlack love, like two Black
people as a couple?

(29:30):
Yeah.
Or even two white people as acouple.
I mean, almost every ad that Isee is some sort of mixed race
or a homosexual couple.
And again, I'm not knocking anyof that.
It's just like, all right, butwhere are we getting away

(29:51):
from...
Black love or white love, whatever we call it, Asian love,
whatever.
Yeah, it's

SPEAKER_00 (29:59):
tricky,

SPEAKER_02 (30:00):
right?
Yeah, it's tricky.
Is it...
I'm not gonna ever say it's toomuch, but...
It's almost like, wow, they'rereally going out of their way to
do this, you know?
And it's like, it's kind ofconfusing.

SPEAKER_00 (30:18):
I think you have to decide for yourself.
You know, I think, you know,it's easy to be influenced by
what we see on TV andadvertising.
That's the whole thing aboutadvertising.
But I remember there was anarticle in the New York Times
about these Black date nights,right?
Where you would go to meet otherBlack people.
And, you know, it was only forblack people.

(30:40):
So that's kind of what you'resaying that you kind of want to
bring that back.
Um, and I get that, you know, Imean, I went on this thing
called the love boat.
Uh, it's called the love boat, but it's actually called, it's
actually a study tour in Taiwanthat people knew that they would
send their kids on the love boatso that they can meet other
Taiwanese Americans.
Right.
So there's a desire on theparents part to keep, you know,

(31:03):
I don't know, to not haveinterracial marriage or dating.
But love is love, Will.

SPEAKER_02 (31:10):
Love is love.
And again, I just want to bevery clear that I'm all
supportive of that.
And again, these people of theseelder generations, they're not
knocking interracial couples.
It's just like, okay, but we'rejust, it's almost like

(31:31):
grandstanding them.
Like, okay, is there somethingwrong with a black couple or,
you know, a same race couple.

SPEAKER_00 (31:41):
I think people are just experimenting, Will.
People are just experimenting, trying different things.
I don't know.
I don't have a good answer foryou, but I get what you're
saying.
You get

SPEAKER_02 (31:50):
what I'm saying?
Yeah.
No, I get what you're saying.
For that older generation, it'sway more difficult for them to
comprehend that, to understandthat, because you know what you
know what how they grew up andhow they live so it's just

SPEAKER_00 (32:07):
like it's almost like something like love is
blind have you seen that showlove is blind with the whole
idea is you go into these podsand you don't see them right you
fall in love without knowingwhat they look like so

SPEAKER_02 (32:23):
you already know the answer of course I haven't

SPEAKER_00 (32:26):
seen that maybe you need to see it but I know you
it's not like you're just datingpeople of your own No, and

SPEAKER_02 (32:35):
again, no, of course not.
No.
Of

SPEAKER_00 (32:38):
course not.
I'm not

SPEAKER_02 (32:40):
saying that.

SPEAKER_00 (32:40):
You just want to see it on TV, right?

SPEAKER_02 (32:43):
Again, I don't mind seeing it on TV, but I'm
actually looking now, like, okay, where are the examples
of...
a couple's in the same race.
I just don't see it anymore.
It's more fascinating for them.
I'm getting all huffy about it.

(33:05):
It's just like, wow, wow.
It's rare that I see acommercial where it's two black
people,

SPEAKER_00 (33:14):
two white people, two Asian people.
Yeah, but there's so many deeperissues, right?
You hear about...
Yeah, I mean, there's so manythings we could talk about with
this.
Some You know, the whole Drakeand Serena Williams, like, you
know, people were angry at himor whatever, you know what I
mean?
And then she wasn't dating, youknow, she ended up dating or
marrying a white guy and peoplewere angry about that, you know?

(33:36):
So it's like, but some of theblack guys she was with, you
know, were assholes, you know?

SPEAKER_02 (33:43):
And some of the white guys too.
There's a lot of differentissues.
Black men aren't the onlyassholes, let me just

SPEAKER_00 (33:48):
say that.
No, I'm just saying the ones shedated, I think people were
saying that, why are you goingto fault her

SPEAKER_02 (33:54):
for...
Hold on, Max.
How do you know that she wasn'tthe one at fault in all these
relationships?

SPEAKER_00 (34:00):
She could have been, but people were just blaming her
for dating a white guy.

SPEAKER_02 (34:06):
Hey, date who you want to date, marry who you want
to date.
It doesn't matter to me.
I don't care.

SPEAKER_00 (34:12):
Just show us some people of the same race.
Yeah, let's

SPEAKER_02 (34:14):
switch it up a bit now.
Let's show us some same

SPEAKER_00 (34:18):
race couples.
Get the pendulum back in.
Let's swing it back.
But I think we're seeing that.
I think the pendulum Angela wasswinging back.

SPEAKER_02 (34:26):
Let's just even it out a bit.
For sure.
For sure.
Yeah.
So I had an opportunity to seethe Fantastic Four recently.

SPEAKER_00 (34:38):
Pedro Pascal is Hispanic, right?
That's

SPEAKER_02 (34:41):
correct.
Yeah.
So, you know, obviously he's aSpanish actor.
You know, the Fantastic Four.

SPEAKER_00 (34:48):
He's from Chile.

SPEAKER_02 (34:50):
Chilean.
Chilean.
He, you know, the comics, youknow, they're a white family.
So they switched that up.
They also switched up.

SPEAKER_00 (35:02):
Are you mad about that?

SPEAKER_02 (35:03):
No, I don't.
I mean, as long as the actingand as long as it's not a
complete.
It's not.
Well, this is going to soundracist.

SPEAKER_00 (35:13):
Are you mad when they had a black little mermaid?
No,

SPEAKER_02 (35:17):
I'm never.
Some people are mad.
When it's that way.
Double

SPEAKER_00 (35:23):
standard.
It

SPEAKER_02 (35:24):
is.
Hey, sue me.
People were mad about the SilverSurfer.
Yeah,

SPEAKER_00 (35:32):
tell me about what...
Was the Silver Surfer a male inthe original?

SPEAKER_02 (35:36):
Well, here's the thing.
Ooh,

SPEAKER_00 (35:39):
geek out.
Let's hear that.

SPEAKER_02 (35:41):
The more popular Silver Surfer is a male.
Norn Rad, I believe is his name.
But in the comics, there is afemale Silver Surfer.
So it wasn't like...
they came up with this out ofthe blue.
It is a comic accurate

SPEAKER_00 (36:00):
character.

SPEAKER_02 (36:02):
So people, you know, there's been three other
iterations of the FantasticFour.
And in all those previous ones,it was the male Silver Surfer.
So I didn't have a problem withthe female Silver Surfer in
this.

SPEAKER_00 (36:17):
Yeah, she was the coolest character in the whole
thing, I

SPEAKER_02 (36:20):
thought.
Yeah, Shia LaBeouf, I believe,is the...
combo character's real name.
But yeah, I didn't have aproblem with that.
I didn't have a problem withPedro Pascal.
I thought...
I thought it was a good movie.
Not great, but I thought it wasa good movie.

SPEAKER_00 (36:40):
Yeah, I didn't think it was great.
I fell asleep.

SPEAKER_02 (36:43):
Oh my goodness, you did.
Wow.

SPEAKER_00 (36:44):
Well, the first half was kind of slow.

SPEAKER_02 (36:47):
Yeah, it definitely built up, you know, when, what's
his name showed up?
Galactus, Galactus.
Yeah, when he, you know, when heshowed up, it definitely picked
up.
But again, with, and maybe itgoes back to the TV, TV series
thing.
It's like even the movies nowaren't as good to me as they

(37:13):
used to be.
I mean, it's

SPEAKER_00 (37:16):
just not holding my attention.
They should come up with moreoriginal things because we're
comparing them to old things.
Are you saying the remakes orjust any movie?

SPEAKER_02 (37:24):
Just pretty much any movie at this

SPEAKER_00 (37:26):
point.
Wow, Bill.
That's a very

SPEAKER_02 (37:28):
broad...
But I do need to change.
So I've been wanting...
When I go to movies now, it'smostly...
Marvel movies, DC movies.
I'm trying to think of the lastmovie I saw that wasn't one of
those.
Maybe I'm just DC and Marveledout.
Maybe I need to broaden myhorizons a little bit.

(37:49):
The movie that I really want tosee is Weapons.

SPEAKER_00 (37:54):
Oh, yeah.
That's supposed to be good.
Are there any midlifers in that?
The reason we wanted to talkabout Fantastic Four was because
Pedro Pascal being 50.

SPEAKER_02 (38:02):
Josh Brolin.
Isn't that?

SPEAKER_00 (38:06):
Oh, he's gotta be, how old is Josh Brolin?

SPEAKER_02 (38:09):
He's

SPEAKER_00 (38:09):
probably, I don't want any spoilers though.

SPEAKER_02 (38:11):
No, I'm not going to spoil

SPEAKER_00 (38:12):
it.
You haven't seen it yet, right?
I have not seen it.
It's been getting some goodbuzz.

SPEAKER_02 (38:16):
Yeah.

SPEAKER_00 (38:17):
Uh, and

SPEAKER_02 (38:19):
yeah.
And the girl who played thesilver surfer is in that movie
as well.

SPEAKER_00 (38:23):
Is that the same girl from Ozarks?

SPEAKER_02 (38:25):
It is.

SPEAKER_00 (38:26):
Is it somebody else?

SPEAKER_02 (38:27):
Yeah.
No, it's her, sir.

SPEAKER_00 (38:29):
Okay.
Well, good for

SPEAKER_02 (38:30):
her.
So I want to go, I want to gosee, I gotta, I gotta break my,
uh, my movie streak here.
I got to start watching somedifferent type of movies.
I think that's

SPEAKER_00 (38:42):
what it is.
All right.
Let's review Weapons next.
I wouldn't mind seeing that.

SPEAKER_02 (38:46):
Okay.
We could do that for sure.
For sure.
But yeah, shout out to Josh Bro.
Shout out to Pedro Pascal.
Midlifers doing their thing atthe top of the craft,
particularly with Pedro.
I think we talked about thisbefore.
He's ascending in his mid-50s.
He's more popular than ever, soSo kudos to them.

(39:07):
Max.

SPEAKER_00 (39:10):
Okay.
He is a Zed.
People call him Daddy, right?
They like to call him Daddy.
I mean, not us, because he'sobviously younger

SPEAKER_02 (39:18):
than us.
You can call him Zed all youwant.
I mean,

SPEAKER_00 (39:21):
you can call him

SPEAKER_02 (39:23):
whatever you want.
How can I call him Daddy?
Like his older sister.
There's no shame in my game.
He's an attractive man.
It

SPEAKER_00 (39:32):
is what it is.

SPEAKER_02 (39:34):
Yeah.
Yeah,

SPEAKER_00 (39:35):
and we like him because he's a midlifer.

SPEAKER_02 (39:37):
He is a midlife.
He's doing his thing.
And he's at the top of hiscareer right now.
And it's only going to getbetter.
He's going to be in some big,big time movies coming up.
He's going to be in AvengersDoomsday.
And he's got some other goodprojects as well.

(39:57):
