God's Sovereign Plan.
In this episode of MightyMoment, we continue our 31-day
journey looking at the best ofthe best scriptures from the
Bible.
These are awesome passages thatyou'll want to remember.
These are 88 of my personalfavorite passages from the Bible
, my top 101 verses.
Granted, all the Bible isprofitable for us to read, know
(01:25):
and apply and admittedly thereare many great passages and
verses not on my list.
It's very hard to narrow itdown to just 101.
Perhaps I'll work on a best ofthe best part too, but for now
we'll cover these 101 versesthat I have chosen.
Contact Mighty Moment if you'dlike a copy of my best of the
best list.
(01:45):
In this episode we will look atNumbers 55 through 58 on our
list of my favorite 101 Bibleverses, as we will explore three
key passages that reveal themagnificent sovereignty of God
over human affairs Proverbs 16,9,.
Proverbs 19.21, and Isaiah 46,verses 9 and 10.
(02:09):
Number 55 on our list isProverbs 16.9, divine Direction
Amid Human Planning.
Reading from the New King JamesVersion.
The verse says A man's heartplans his way, but the Lord
directs his steps.
The New International VersionIn their hearts, humans plan
(02:30):
their course, but the Lordestablishes their steps.
And in the New AmericanStandard Version the mind of man
plans his way, but the Lorddirects his steps.
The Good News Bible reads youmay make your plans, but God
directs your actions.
And in the Passion translationWithin your heart, you can make
(02:53):
plans for your future, but theLord chooses the steps you take
to get there.
And the Message version.
The verse reads we plan the waywe want to live, but only God
makes us able to live it.
And in the Living Bible, weshould make plans counting on
God to direct us.
And lastly, in the AmplifiedBible a man's mind plans his way
(03:17):
as he journeys through life, but the Lord directs his steps
and establishes them.
We all have dreams, we plan forthe future, we set life goals
to achieve, we strive to besuccessful and achieve certain
ambitions.
However, this verse reminds usthat we are not in control of
(03:38):
all the variables.
While we can aim to accomplishsomething, ultimately we do not
know the obstacles andchallenges that lie ahead in our
journey to meet that goal.
We cannot guarantee success.
As a Christian, we set righteousgoals, in other words, goals
that honor God and harmonizewith His purposes.
We also make earthly goals, inlight of the fact that this
(04:01):
world is not our home.
As the Bible says, we shouldseek first the kingdom of God,
and all these other things willbe added to us.
God here is reminding us that, even when we have good goals and
righteous desires, that it ishe.
He is the one who has thewisdom and power to direct us
into success.
(04:22):
I'm reminded of the verse thattells us that every good and
perfect gift comes from God.
Even those things we achieve, accomplish or acquire are
because of the Lord's grace andgoodness.
This verse reminds us that Godis able to help us achieve our
dreams.
It also shows us that, aftercareful and prayerful
deliberation, we move forwardand walk in a certain way, or
(04:46):
follow our heart or make plans.
If, innocently, they are notaccording to God's will, then
God will direct us back on thepath, should we be willing to
submit to His leading.
Furthermore, this verse remindsus that the Christian, despite
us knowing that Jesus is comingand coming soon, is empowered
and encouraged to make plans.
(05:07):
Make plans for the future, butlive like today is your last
Walk in the Lord's path andensure our plans are in harmony
with His, and he will direct ourways.
Number 56 in our list isProverbs 19.21, the Endurance of
God's Counsel Above HumanSchemes.
(05:29):
Reading from the New King JamesVersion the verse says there
are many plans in a man's heart, nevertheless the Lord's counsel
that will stand.
And the New InternationalVersion reads Many are the plans
in a person's heart, but it isthe Lord's purpose that prevails
.
The Good News Bible People mayplan all kinds of things, but
(05:52):
the Lord's will is going to bedone.
And the Passion Translation youcan make many plans, but the
Lord's purpose will prevail Inthe Message Version.
But the Lord's purpose willprevail In the Message version.
We humans keep brainstormingoptions and plans, but God's
purpose prevails In the ClearWord.
Man plans to do all kinds ofthings, but the Lord's plans are
(06:16):
what will ultimately be done.
This verse reminds me of anotherverse in the Bible that there
is a way to a man that seemsright, but the way thereof leads
to death, meaning the road totrouble can be paved with good
intentions.
The spirit, indeed, is willing, but the flesh is weak.
I can move forward, thinking Ihave the best solution or plans
(06:39):
possible, but it is the Lord'splans that never need to be
adjusted, altered or changed.
Many times in my life, if I hadsought the Lord's direction at
the beginning, I could havesaved myself a lot of pain and
challenges Now.
Granted, god can always bringus back onto the right path, but
(06:59):
perhaps I should seek to stayon His path in the beginning
rather than go on my owntangents that God then has to
detour me back to His will.
While God always has acontingency plan for my poor
choices, may I seek His will atthe beginning and yearn to hear
and understand His voice tellingme what to do and where to go.
(07:20):
At a minimum, I need to bewell-grounded in the Word so I
do not go down a path that isknowingly contradictory to go.
At a minimum, I need to bewell-grounded in the Word so I
do not go down a path that isknowingly contradictory to God.
God's counsel is always right, always timely and will always
guide us to success With a 100%track record.
Why would anyone choose anyoneelse but to listen to the
(07:42):
counsel from God from thebeginning?
Proverbs 19.21 offers profoundperspective on the relationship
between human planning anddivine purpose.
The verse acknowledges thereality that we naturally
generate numerous plans, schemesand strategies for our lives.
This planning ability reflectsour creation in God's image and
(08:05):
is not discouraged.
However, the proverbestablishes a clear hierarchy
Regardless of the quantity orquality of human plans, only the
Lord's counsel will ultimatelystand.
This truth liberates us fromthe pressure of perfect planning
and the despair of disruptedplans.
When we embrace the enduringnature of God's purpose, we can
(08:26):
plan confidently yet hold thoseplans with open hands, ready to
adjust to His higher ways.
Numbers 57 and 58 on our listcome from the passage Isaiah 46,
verses 9 and 10.
The unrivaled God who declaresthe end from the beginning.
Reading from the New King JamesVersion.
Remember the former things ofold, for I am God and there is
(08:51):
no other.
I am God and there is none likeme.
Declaring the end from thebeginning and from ancient times
, things that are not yet done.
Saying my counsel shall standand I will do all my pleasure.
Reading from the NewInternational Version.
Remember the former things, those of long ago.
(09:12):
I am God and there is no other.
I am God and there is none likeme.
I make known the end from thebeginning, from ancient times.
What is still to come.
I say my purpose will stand andin the Good News Bible, no one
else like me.
From the beginning, I predictedthe outcome Long ago.
(09:35):
I foretold what would happen.
I said that my plans wouldnever fail, that I would do
everything I intended to do andin the message to happen,
(10:13):
assuring you I'm in this for thelong haul, I'll do exactly what
I set out to do.
And in the Living Bible, remember the things I have done
in the past, for I alone am God.
I am God and there is none likeme.
Only I can tell you the futurebefore it even happens.
Everything I plan will come topass, for I do whatever I wish.
(10:39):
Remembering how good God hasbeen in your life helps us in
our current journey, as we walkwith the Lord through our
current issues, obstacles andchallenges.
Basically, god is saying here Ihave never failed you in the
past and I'm not going to startnow.
Our family has a book ofremembrance in our home.
I would encourage you to dothis in your spiritual journey
(10:59):
as well.
It's kind of like the otherhalf of a prayer journal.
In this book, you record allthe times God has been good to
you, all the answered prayers, all the miracles, all the times
he moved on your behalf.
A book of remembrance willstrengthen your resolve in the
Lord and reassure you that thesame incredible God who blessed
you in the past is the same Godthat is with you in the present.
(11:23):
In conclusion, these threepowerful scriptures Proverbs
16.9, proverbs 19.21, and Isaiah46.9-10, combine to offer a
strong theme of divinesovereignty that brings both
comfort and perspective to ourdaily lives.
In Proverbs 16.9, we saw theintimate interplay between our
(11:45):
freedom to plan and God'sguiding hand that establishes
our steps.
Proverbs 19.21 expanded on thistruth, acknowledging the
multitude of plans we generatewhile affirming that only God's
counsel will ultimately endure.
And Isaiah 46, 9-10 completedthe picture by revealing God's
(12:08):
unique ability to declare theend from the beginning,
establishing His purpose withperfect knowledge and
irresistible power Together.
These passages invite us into alife of faithful planning and
trust in the Lord.
We are called to exercise thegift of reason, making
thoughtful plans for our futureswhile simultaneously presenting
(12:31):
those plans to the Lord.
Our God, the Incomparable Onewho knows the end from the
beginning, lovingly directs oursteps according to His perfect
counsel.
When we align our hearts withthis reality, we find freedom
from both the anxiety ofuncertainty and the rigidity of
controlling our owncircumstances.
We can plan with confidence andadapt with peace, knowing that
(12:55):
our sovereign God is working allthings together for His glory
and our ultimate good Friends.
In our next episode, strengthin Weakness, we will continue
our look at the best of the best88 Bible Scripture passages by
looking at numbers 59, 60, and61.
In my personal top 101 favoriteverses, we'll look at Isaiah 40
(13:20):
, verse 31, 2 Corinthians 12, 9,and 2 Timothy 1, 7.
I hope you've enjoyed our timetogether and I pray you have a
