God's Everlasting
Love.
In this episode of MightyMoment, we continue our
month-long excursion looking atthe best of the best scriptures
from the Bible.
These are splendid passagesthat you'll want to take note of
and remember.
These are 88 passages from theBible that are special to me, my
favorite 101 verses.
(01:24):
The total list of verses is notranked in any order, but verses
covered in each episode areunited by a common spiritual
theme.
Each verse is worth noting onits own, though.
Reach out to Mighty Moment ifyou'd like a copy of my best of
the best list.
In this episode we look at twopassages from the book of Romans
(01:46):
that describe a love that isboth infinitely patient and
fiercely protective.
The Apostle Paul paints apicture of God's love that is at
once shocking and comforting.
In Romans 5.8, we will see lovedemonstrated at the cross,
given to us when we leastdeserved it, and in Romans 8, 38
(02:07):
, and 39, we'll be assured thatno force in the universe can
separate us from this love.
What we learn will show us thatwe can rest in the security and
wonder of God's grace.
Number 68 on our list is Romans5, verse 8.
Unconditional love, god's love, finds us at our lowest point.
(02:27):
Reading from the New King JamesVersion.
The verse reads but Goddemonstrates His own love toward
us in that, while we were stillsinners, christ died for us.
The New International Versionreads but God demonstrates His
own love for us in this While wewere still sinners, christ died
(02:50):
for us, and the Good News Biblereads but God has shown us how
much he loves us.
It was while we were stillsinners that Christ died for us.
The Passion Translation readsbut Christ proved God's
passionate love for us by dyingin our place while we were still
lost and ungodly.
(03:11):
The Message Version reads andlastly, in the Amplified Bible
version but God clearly showsand proves His own love for us
(03:31):
by the fact that, while we werestill sinners, christ died for
us.
God does not force His creation.
The crowning point of humanityis His gift of free will to us.
Dangerous, indeed, in that wecould choose contrary to what is
best for us, as demonstratedwith Adam and Eve.
But God still gave us free will, because without it we do not
(03:55):
have the ability to love orworship.
So God sent His Son andimplemented the plan of
salvation without any guaranteethat we would accept the gift,
but it was so important he didit anyway.
If I were God I'm sure you'reglad that I'm not I would have
wanted guarantees before puttingit all on the line.
(04:17):
Not God.
He was willing to die for theopportunity that we could be
saved.
We could use free will andreject that invitation, reject
His gift Truly.
The verse hits the nail on thehead as it shows God's true
motivation love and a passion toredeem the lost.
(04:40):
I also like the verse'spersonal dynamic.
It refers to God's love as Hisown love.
It is this personal dynamicthat is even more impressive.
You see, he knows how sinful weare.
He knows how dirty with sin weare, how messed up in all the
baggage we carry and all theguilt, and yet he still did it.
(05:04):
God saved us when we were atour ugliest so we can have the
opportunity to be our best inHis grace.
What does he ask of us inreturn?
To say yes and to choose abetter way to allow Him to help
us and restore us and make usbetter.
(05:26):
Paul's language in Romans 5.8 isdeliberate and rich with
meaning.
The Greek verb used here fordemonstrates, sun-istason means
to show, prove or establish byaction.
God's love is not just afeeling or a statement.
It is verified and made visiblein history.
(05:48):
The Greek word for own loveused here, eutu.
Agapen, is the possessive form, his own, emphasizing the unique
, personal and divine nature ofthis love.
Agape, which you might befamiliar with, is the highest
form of love, defined byself-sacrifice and unconditional
(06:12):
commitment.
And the Greek word used forstill sinners, eti amartolon.
The word comes from amartia, which means to miss the mark.
Paul is clear God's love isgiven not when we are at our
best, but at our worst, while weare still missing the mark,
(06:35):
failing and rebelling.
Worst, while we are stillmissing the mark, failing and
rebelling.
In this verse, paul emphasizesthat God's love is not abstract
but is actively demonstratedthrough Christ's sacrificial
death.
God's love is not a vaguesentiment or a future promise.
It is a present reality, provenat the cross.
He loved us when we wereunlovable and His love is
(06:57):
anchored in His character, notour performance.
This is grace in its purestform.
Number 69 and 70 in our list isRomans 8, 38, and 39.
Unbreakable love Nothing canseparate us from God.
Reading from the New King JamesVersion.
(07:18):
For I am persuaded that neitherdeath, nor life, nor angels,
nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things
to come.
Nor height nor depth, nor anyother created thing shall be
able to separate us from thelove of God which is in Christ
Jesus, our Lord.
(07:38):
The New International Versionreads For I am convinced that
neither death nor life, neitherangels nor demons, neither the
present nor the future, nor anypowers, neither height nor depth
nor anything else in all allcreation will be able to
separate us from the love of Godthat is in Christ Jesus, our
(08:02):
Lord.
The Good News Bible reads For Iam certain that nothing can
separate us from his loveneither death nor life, neither
angels nor other heavenly rulersor powers, neither the present
nor the future, neither theworld above nor the world below.
There is nothing in allcreation that will ever be able
(08:23):
to separate us from the love ofGod which is ours through Christ
Jesus, our Lord.
And the Passion Translationreads so now I live with the
confidence that there is nothingin the universe with the power
to separate us from God's love.
I'm convinced that His lovewill triumph over death, life's
(08:44):
troubles, fallen angels or darkrulers in the heavens.
There is nothing in our presentor future circumstances that
can weaken His love.
That can weaken His love.
There is no power above us orbeneath us, no power that could
ever be found in the universethat can distance us from God's
passionate love, which islavished upon us through our
(09:07):
Lord Jesus, the Anointed One.
And the Message Bible reads Iam absolutely convinced that
nothing, nothing, living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or
tomorrow, high or low, thinkableor unthinkable, absolutely
nothing can get between us andGod's love because of the way
(09:30):
that Jesus, our Master, hasembraced us.
Paul's language here is sweeping, poetic and emphatic.
The Greek word used here forpersuaded or convinced, pepismai
, means to be fully convinced,to have absolute certainty.
Paul's conviction is nottheoretical, it is experiential
(09:50):
and unshakable.
The Greek word used here forseparate, koresai, means to
divide, to put asunder or tocause distance.
In other words, paul isdeclaring that no force, event
or being can create distancebetween us and God's love.
Now, the Greek word here forlove is one you're familiar with
(10:12):
agape.
Again, this is the sacrificial, unconditional love of God, the
same love demonstrated at thecross, and the Greek term in
Christ Jesus, en Christo Iesu.
All of this security and loveis found in Christ, in a
relationship with Him and byfaith.
(10:36):
Consider the true story ofFrederick Nolan, a Christian in
North Africa during a time ofintense persecution.
Fleeing for his life, nolanfound refuge in a small cave,
exhausted and certain that hispursuers would find him.
As he lay there, he watched aspider begin to weave a web
across the mouth of the cave.
(10:56):
Watched a spider begin to weavea web across the mouth of the
cave.
When his enemies arrived, theysaw the untouched web and
assumed no one could be insidewithout disturbing it.
So they moved on.
Nolan later declared when Godis a spider's web is like a wall
, and where God is not, a wallis like a spider's web.
This story illustrates thatnothing, not even the most
(11:19):
determined opposition, canseparate us from God's
protective love.
In conclusion, romans 5.8 andRomans 8.38 and 39 together form
the heart of the gospel.
God's love is both proven andpermanent.
In Romans 5.8, we see theshocking initiative of God he
(11:40):
loved us when we were at ourworst, sending Christ to die for
us while we were still sinners.
This is grace in its purestform Love given, not earned, and
mercy shown, not deserved.
Romans 8.38-39, then, assuresus that this love, once given,
(12:00):
can never be lost.
No circumstance, power orfailure can separate us from
God's embrace.
His love is not onlyunconditional but also
unbreakable.
As we walk through the ups anddowns of life, let these truths
anchor your soul.
You are loved with aneverlasting love, proven at the
(12:23):
cross and secured for eternity.
Rest in this grace and let itempower you to love others with
the same hope-filled,christ-centered love you have
received.
Christ is the evidence, theaccess and the anchor of this
love.
It is demonstrated through thecross and secured through the
(12:43):
resurrection.
Let your soul rest in thistruth.
Today you are fully known, deeply loved and eternally held
in the arms of a God who willnever let you go.
Held in the arms of a God whowill never let you go.
