Welcome to Mighty Moment, where it only takes a
moment to have a mightyencounter with God.
Our speaker, dr Bobby J Bowles,is guiding us on a
transformative exploration ofthe scriptures from Genesis to
Revelation as he brings to lifethe incredible and fascinating
stories of the Bible.
We pray that you are encouragedand spiritually strengthened,

(00:52):
so let's turn our hearts andminds to the Word as we prepare
for today's journey of discovery.
Here's Dr Bobby with today'sMighty Moment.

Dr. Bobby J. Boles (01:02):
A loving God responds.
In our last episode together, entitled the Sneaky Snake, we
looked at the encounter Eve hadwith the snake, the devil, in
the Garden of Eden, at the Treeof Knowledge of Good and Evil.
It examined the slippery slopeof temptation and what led Adam

(01:23):
and Eve to sin and led to thefall of humanity.
Also, the episode studied thefirst lie ever told and learned
about the father of lies, satanhimself.
Lastly, we learned lessons fromboth Adam and Eve's missteps
that led to the final moment ofdemise.
Ultimately, we left the storyjust after Adam and Eve sinned,

(01:44):
and now we need to examine howGod would respond.
The key scripture for thisepisode is found in the book of
Genesis, chapter 3, verses 7-13and verses 20-24,.
And they suddenly felt shame attheir nakedness, so they sewed

(02:08):
fig leaves together to coverthemselves.
When the cool evening breezeswere blowing, the man and his
wife heard the Lord God walkingabout in the garden, so they hid
from the Lord God among thetrees.
Then the Lord God called to theman when are you?
He replied.
I heard you walking in thegarden, so I hid.

(02:28):
I was afraid because I wasnaked.
Who told you that you werenaked?
The Lord God asked have youeaten from the tree whose fruit
I commanded you not to eat?
The man replied it was thewoman you gave me who gave me
the fruit, and I ate it.
Then the Lord God asked thewoman what have you done?
The serpent deceived me.

(02:49):
She replied that's why I ate.
In today's episode we look atthe aftermath of humanity's
first sin.
We witness a God who doesn'tabandon His creation, but
instead responds with love, careand mercy.
In future episodes of MightyMoment we will delve deeper into
the aftermath of the fall ofAdam and Eve in various aspects

(03:12):
the consequences of sin, thedefinition of sin,
accountability for sin and,finally, sin's solution, god's
plan of salvation.
But for this episode we willfocus and explore one specific
aspect of the consequences ofthe fall, and that is how a
father God reacted to Adam andEve's disobedience in the Garden

(03:35):
of Eden.
We will seek to understandGod's deep love and commitment
to his precious children, evenin their darkest moments, to his
precious children even in theirdarkest moments.
Before we look at God'sresponse to Adam and Eve's sin,
let's understand the nature oftheir relationship with each
other.
The story of Adam and Eve's fallbegins with a beautiful picture

(03:56):
of intimacy between God and hiscreation.
Genesis 3.8 says Then the manand his wife heard the sound of
the Lord God as he was walkingin the garden in the cool of the
day.
This simple verse paints aprofound image of God's desire
for closeness with humanity.
In the original language thiswas written Hebrew.

(04:17):
The word for walking used hereis halak, which implies a
continuous, habitual action.
This suggests that God'sevening walks in the garden were
a regular occurrence, a time offellowship and communion with
Adam and Eve.
Not only did God walk with Adamand Eve, but he also engaged

(04:38):
with them in conversation.
This divine dialogue showcasesthe personal nature of God's
relationship with humanity.
He didn't create them and leavethem to their own devices.
He actively communicated andtalked with them.
In our story today, god askedAdam and Eve four questions.
When God asks questions in theBible, it's not because he lacks

(05:00):
information.
Rather, his questions serve adeeper purpose.
As the omniscient God, healready knows the answers to the
questions he poses.
So why does he ask God's firstquestion in the story, where are
you?
Genesis 3.9 wasn't aboutphysical location.
It was an invitation for Adamto acknowledge his spiritual

(05:22):
state.
The Hebrew word ayah used herecan also mean?
How are you implying God'sconcern for Adam's condition?
God's second question who toldyou that you were naked?
Was designed to lead Adam toconfront the reality of his
disobedience.
It's as if God was saying whathas changed in your perception

(05:43):
of yourself?
The third question God askshave you eaten of the tree?
Is a direct question, seekingAdam to confess, which he does
not do.
Instead, adam offers blamerather than accepting
culpability.
And the last question when Godasks Eve what is this you have

(06:06):
done?
God is expressing his greatsorrow, for he knows the full
extent of the ramifications oftheir actions and the pain that
it would bring his children.
These four questions demonstrateGod's desire for honest
communication andself-reflection from his
creation, even in the face oftheir sin.

(06:27):
What were God's options inresponding to Adam and Eve's sin
?
Well, he could have juststarted over with a new creation
, or he could have given up onthe whole project of humanity
altogether.
Instead, god chooses a path ofredemption.
Even as he pronouncedconsequences for their actions,

(06:49):
he hints at a future hope InGenesis 3.15,.
God says to the serpent and Iwill put enmity between you and
the woman and between youroffspring and hers, and he will
crush your head and you willstrike his heel.
This verse, often called theProto-Evangelium or First Gospel
, points to the coming of Christand God's ultimate plan for

(07:13):
salvation.
We'll explore the plan ofsalvation in detail in a future
episode of Mighty Moment.
In this story we see a God whohurts for their sin, as he knows
and understands what it meansfor them.
He understood the fullimplications of their actions
and the pain that it would bring.

(07:34):
God recognizes that Adam andEve are afraid and he comes to
them to comfort, despite theirdisobedience.
God doesn't wait for Adam andEve to come to Him.
While they are hiding.
He initiates contact with them, calling out to them in the
garden.
This action demonstrates Hiscompassion and desire to comfort

(07:57):
them, even in their fear andshame.
We see a God who will neverabandon or desert us, even in
our bleakest time, even in ourhuge messes that were of our own
making.
God's presence in the gardenafter the fall is a powerful
testament to His faithfulness.
God promises us in Hebrews13.5,.

(08:20):
Never will I leave you, neverwill I forsake you.
This promise is evident even inhumanity's darkest hour.
Genesis 3.21 says that the LordGod made garments of skin for
Adam and his wife and clothedthem.
While a simple, short statement, I believe it demonstrates some

(08:42):
profound insights.
It shows that he really caresfor them.
He meets their immediate needs, even when they've messed up,
he's caring for them.
It is a touching display ofGod's love.
This act goes beyond merepracticality.
It's a gesture of love andprovision, even in the face of

(09:05):
their disobedience.
The clothing God providesaddresses the shame Adam and Eve
felt in their nakedness.
This shame, a new experiencefor them, is met with God's
grace.
He doesn't leave them exposedbut covers their shame,
foreshadowing the ultimatecovering of sin that would come

(09:27):
through Christ, through adifferent clothing imagery the
robe of righteousness.
I think it's important to notethat God makes them clothes of
animal skin, which means that ananimal had to die to provide
the material for their clothes.
This was the first deathrecorded in the Bible and Adam

(09:48):
and Eve, while I'm sure theywere grateful for the clothes,
also realized it was because oftheir sin they needed clothes
and it was because of their sinthat an animal had to die to
provide for them.
We see another example of aloving response to Adam and Eve
from God in Genesis 3.22.

(10:09):
And the Lord God said the manhas now become like one of us
knowing good and evil, he mustnot be allowed to reach out his
hand and take also from the treeof life and eat and live
forever.
Even God's decision to baraccess to the tree of life
demonstrates His love for Adamand Eve.
While at first glance it mightseem harsh, it actually was for

(10:34):
their own good.
It was an act of mercy.
Living forever in a fallen statewould have meant eternal
separation from God and eternalmisery.
To ensure Adam and Eve didn'thave access to the tree of life
any longer, genesis 3.24 tellsus that God stations cherubim

(10:54):
with flaming swords to guard theway to the tree of life.
This dramatic image underscoresthe seriousness of sin's
consequences, while alsohighlighting God's commitment to
His redemptive plan.
While access to the tree oflife was denied in Eden, it's
not lost forever.
Revelation tells us that thetree of life will be in heaven.

(11:17):
God will again allow access tothe tree of life in heaven,
where the redeemed will eat ofthe tree freely.
God's ultimate loving planincludes restoring humanity's
access to eternal life.
God's response to the fallreveals a God who is loving.
God's care for Adam and Eve isevident in his seeking after

(11:40):
them, his desire to be with themto comfort them, to provide
clothes for them and even in hisprotecting them from the tree
of life when in a fallen state.
In conclusion, the story ofGod's response to the fall is a
powerful testament to God'senduring love and commitment to
his creation.
Despite Adam and Eve'sdisobedience, god doesn't

(12:04):
abandon them.
Instead, he seeks them out, provides for their immediate
needs and sets in motion a planfor their ultimate restoration.
This narrative lays thefoundation for understanding the
depth of God's love and thelengths to which he will go to
restore relationship withhumanity.
It points forward to the comingof Christ, through whom God

(12:26):
will ultimately defeat sin anddeath, opening the way for us to
return to intimate relationshipand fellowship with him.
In our own lives, when we facethe consequences of our actions
or feel distant from God due toour own failures, we can take
comfort in knowing that we servea God who responds to sin not

(12:47):
with abandonment, but with alove that seeks, provides,
protects and ultimately redeemsFriends.
In our next episode, entitledUnintended Consequences, we
examine the natural result ofAdam and Eve's disobedience.
We explore the profound impactof their choice from the shame

(13:08):
of their nakedness to separationfrom God, to the fear that came
upon humanity, to the divisionthat came into their own human
relationship, we see God's graceand His ultimate plan for
salvation.
