Revelation as he brings to lifethe incredible and fascinating
stories of the Bible.
We pray that you are encouragedand spiritually strengthened,

(00:52):
so let's turn our hearts andminds to the Word as we prepare
for today's journey of discovery.
Here's Dr Bobby with today'sMighty Moment.

Dr. Bobby J. Boles (01:02):
The Cosmic Matrix.
In our last episode together, entitled the Blame Game, we
looked at how Adam and Everesponded to God when he
confronted them after their sinin the Garden of Eden.
After they disobeyed, theyquickly blamed others for their
own actions.
The episode also looked attaking personal responsibility

(01:25):
for our bad choices, accountability before God
ultimately in a day of judgment, and, finally, the hope we have
in Christ as our advocate.
In this episode, the CosmicMatrix, we look at the origin of
sin.
As we've been studying the Adamand Eve story in our Genesis
series, we now understand howsin entered the world through

(01:49):
their fall in the Garden of Eden.
Now we want to pause tounderstand how sin began in the
first place.
We want to go even further backin history to the actual origin
of sin.
Where did it come from?
Why was it allowed?
Origin of sin when did it comefrom?
Why was it allowed?
Who is Satan and who are theplayers in this cosmic battle

(02:09):
between good and evil?
The key Bible passage for thisepisode is from the New
Testament, in the book ofRevelation, chapter 12, verses 7
to 9.
I'm reading from the New KingJames Version.
All other scriptures will befrom the New International
Version and war broke out inheaven.
Michael and his angels foughtwith the dragon, and the dragon

(02:33):
and his angels fought, but theydid not prevail.
Nor was a place found for themin heaven any longer.
So the great dragon was castout, that serpent of of old
called the devil and satan, whodeceived the whole world, and he
was cast to the earth and hisangels were cast out with him as

(02:54):
humans.
It does not take long living inthis world before we begin to
ask questions, deep, probing,serious questions.
If is so good, why is the worldso bad?
Why is there so much suffering?
Why do bad things happen togood people?
Does God care about me?

(03:14):
These questions strike at thecore of our understanding of God
, morality and the nature ofexistence itself.
To find answers we must journeyback to the very beginning, not
just of Earth's history, but ofthe cosmic conflict that set
the stage for our world'sstruggles.

(03:35):
Our story begins in heaven, longbefore Earth was created, and
the key player in the saga is anangel named Lucifer.
The name Lucifer comes from theLatin words lux, meaning light,
and fere.
To bear or carry.
It literally means light-beareror morning star.

(03:55):
This name reflects the being'soriginal status and purpose.
Lucifer held a position ofgreat honor and responsibility
in heaven.
He was created as the pinnacleof angelic beings, endowed with
beauty, wisdom and power.
He had a very important job.
He was perfectly created, living in an incredible, awesome

(04:18):
, joyful, peaceful andspectacular place heaven.
Ezekiel 28, 12-14 says ofLucifer you were the seal of
perfection, full of wisdom andperfect in beauty.
You were anointed as a guardiancherub, but sadly, trouble was
brewing in paradise.

(04:39):
Our story today is ultimately atragedy of a fallen angel.
Ezekiel 28, 15 and 17 givesfurther insight into what
happened to change everything.
It says you were blameless inyour ways from the day you were
created till wickedness wasfound in you.

(04:59):
Your heart became proud onaccount of your beauty and you
corrupted your wisdom because ofyour splendor.
These verses reveal the tragicturn in lucifer's story from
perfection to corruption.
Isaiah fourteen, thirteen tofourteen, reveals what changed

(05:20):
in lucifer's heart.
It says you said in your heartI will ascend to the heavens, I
will raise my throne above thestars of God, I will make myself
like the Most High.
Lucifer's demise began with aninordinate focus on himself.
He had an I problem, a meproblem, his self-centeredness

(05:45):
and desire for self-exaltationand his fixation on his own
beauty, wisdom and positionwould lead to his downfall.
Lucifer's fall from grace is acautionary tale about the
dangers of pride and thecorruption of power.
Lucifer wanted to elevatehimself to God's level, even the

(06:06):
most exalted being God himself.
When consumed byself-importance, you can fall
from the heights of glory to thedepths of disgrace.
So why did God allow this tohappen?
The question of why God allowedsin to enter both the heavenly
and earthly realms is complexand multifaceted.

(06:26):
The quick answer is that Godcreated us as free beings.
God did not create automatonsor pre-programmed robots to
blindly obey.
Instead, he created beings withthe capacity for genuine
relationship and love and choice.
God created us with the abilityof free will the ability of

(06:50):
choice.
If you take away the ability ofchoice, you take away the
ability to love.
Love by its very naturerequires the freedom to choose.
Without the ability to rejectGod, the choice to love him
would be meaningless.
God gave His angels andhumanity the ability to choose.

(07:10):
This gift of free will is whatallows for authentic love,
worship and makes us unique, autonomous beings.
The ability to choose was agreat risk, for sure, but with
it also created the possibilityfor genuine love and a
relationship with God himself.
Our Creator deemed the risk ofrebellion worth the risk in

(07:34):
order to have truly free, lovingbeings.
Back to our story in heaven, lucifer and his angels rebelled
and openly were against Jesus, and the loyal angels rebelled
and openly were against Jesusand the loyal angels.
The cosmic conflict escalatedfrom Lucifer's internal pride to
open revolt against God'sauthority.

(07:55):
Unbelievably, there was aninsurrection in paradise.
The created were defying theircreator, as we've already read
in our key verse found inRevelation 12.7,.
Then war broke out in heaven.
Michael and his angels foughtagainst the dragon, and the

(08:16):
dragon and his angels foughtback.
Many theologians believe thisreference to Michael here is
actually a reference to Jesushimself.
This great controversy is infact between Satan and Jesus.
This verse describes the climaxof the heavenly conflict, with
Michael leading the loyal angelsagainst Lucifer now referred to

(08:38):
as the dragon and his followers.
Ultimately, god had to act.
God's perfect justice andholiness could not allow open
rebellion to continue uncheckedin His presence.
Sin, upheaval, sedition couldnot remain in heaven.
The very nature of heaven as aplace of perfect harmony with

(09:01):
God's will meant that those whochose upheaval and chaos over
God's principles and law couldno longer remain.
Their choice led to separation.
Sin always leads to separationfrom our Maker, as it is
contradictory to His character.
Revelation 12.9 says the greatdragon was hurled down, that

(09:24):
ancient serpent called the devilor Satan, who leads the whole
world astray.
He was hurled to the earth andhis angels with him.
The outcome of the heavenly waris clear Lucifer and his
rebellious angels are cast outof heaven.
It set the stage for theongoing spiritual battle that

(09:45):
would play out on earth.
Revelation 12.4 suggests that athird of the angels joined
Lucifer in his rebellion andwere cast out with him.
With Satan and his angels castto earth, our world became a
battleground in the cosmicconflict.
This expulsion set the stagefor the temptation in Eden and

(10:08):
the subsequent fall of humanity.
Satan challenged God's order.
Satan accused God of beingunfair, claiming his law was
impossible to keep and that hewas a vengeful deity.
He argued that God's creationwas insulated and lacked true
free will.
The tree of knowledge of goodand evil in the Garden of Eden

(10:29):
served as a test, allowing Adamand Eve the choice to obey God
or, through disobedience, alignthemselves with Satan's
rebellion.
Earth became a stage where thecharacter of God and the
validity of his government wouldbe demonstrated before the
watching universe.
The choices of humanity wouldplay a crucial role in this

(10:51):
cosmic drama.
Sin entered the world after thefall.
Despite God's clearinstructions and warnings, adam
and Eve chose to disobey, eatingthe forbidden fruit.
They failed the test With theiract of rebellion.
Sin and its consequencesentered the human experience.
Evil and corruption entered andmarred God's perfect creation,

(11:13):
entered and marred God's perfectcreation.
The effects of sin extendedbeyond humanity, impacting the
entire created order.
The fall of Adam and Evetransformed earth from a
paradise in harmony with God'swill to a realm where sin,
suffering and death becamerealities.

(11:33):
This event aligned humanitywith Satan's rebellion,
necessitating a divine plan forredemption.
In conclusion, the origin of sinand suffering stems from a
rebellion that began in heaven, with Lucifer's pride, leading to
a war and his and his angels'expulsion to earth.

(11:54):
This set the stage forhumanity's fall in the Garden of
Eden, introducing sin and deathinto God's perfect creation.
God's granting of free will toangels and humans was crucial
for genuine love to occur, butunfortunately, his creation used
that privilege to rebel.

(12:15):
The tree of knowledge of goodand evil in Eden served as a
test, and Adam and Eve'sdisobedience brought sin into
the human experience, corruptingcreation and making earth a
spiritual battlefield.
So now we have context to helpexplain the existence of
suffering, pain and evil in ourworld, now revealing them as

(12:38):
consequences of rebellion ratherthan God's intent.
Despite this fallen state, godhas not abandoned His creation.
His plan of salvationdemonstrates His love and
commitment to restoring theharmony of His original design.
His plan would eradicate sin, redeem his creation and restore

(12:59):
all things.
Friends, in our next episodeentitled Missing the Mark, we
will look at what sin actuallyis.
We will seek to define it andunderstand it.
What is the nature of sin?
What is the power of sin?
What are the results of sin,who is affected by sin and,
finally, what breaks thepowerful hold of sin and its

(13:21):
penalty of death?
I hope you've enjoyed our timetogether and I pray you have a
mighty moment with God today.
Be blessed.
