Speaker 1 (00:17):
Hey, I'm Lemon.
I am just like you, sisterfriend.
Talk about stepping into thatoverflow that God has for us by
becoming those ultimate Proverbs31 women.
Hey, I'm Lemon.
I am just like you, sisterfriend.
I knew God had something morein store for me, but I couldn't
see a way out of the laundrypiles and, frankly, I resented
that.
Proverbs 31 woman.
How was I going to live up tothe hype?

(00:39):
That is until I found out howto really step into becoming
this Proverbs 31 woman throughleadership development.
In this podcast you're going tofind financial freedom,
leadership, growth andmotivation so you'll be able to
do all the things God has calledyou to do with ease and really
step into that land of milk andhoney.
Welcome back to the Milk andHoney podcast.

(01:00):
I'm your host, lemon Price.
Today I am excited to talkabout being a human being versus
a human doing, and you'reprobably like, of course, lemon
I'm a human being, but are you?
Are you a human being?
So I want to talk about thisconcept of a human doing versus
a human being.
So a human doing is focused ontasks, you're focused on

(01:23):
achievement, you're strivingconstantly, kind of operating
from this place of hustle versusa human being where you're
grounded in your identity andthere's some rest and acceptance
kind of there.
And when I think about thedifference, I can clearly see it
in my life, like it's soinsanely obvious it's not even
funny.
So when I am focused on resultsand achievements and things I

(01:47):
have to get done, I hit burnout.
And I've done an episode onburnout because I don't think
burnout necessarily is bad, butit's like the recovery from
burnout.
That's a problem Not givingyourself the space.
Burnout is pushing yourselfpast capacity.
The only way to expand yourcapacity is continuously to push
past that capacity.
But you have to have a recoveryperiod in there.
So I frequently at least I usedto frequently push myself way

(02:14):
past capacity.
Then I wouldn't give myself anydowntime until I couldn't
function anymore.
And then I'm in the hospitalstruggling to relax and rest.
I will never forget being 16years old in the hospital at
DuPont in Delaware.
We ran all the tests, every CTscan, mri.
Every doctor on the easternseaboard at this point had seen

(02:36):
me and they're like I can'tfigure this out.
And then finally somebody waslike I think it's her stress,
like I think she's too stressedout, and so they're like OK, we
can like solve this problem ifyou could just relax.
And I couldn't relax.
I got stressed about having torelax because I didn't know how.
I was so used to being focusedhigh, achieving and

(02:59):
accomplishing something and thenmoving immediately on to the
next thing that I burned out.
I spent six weeks in thathospital and I've seen that
happen to me a couple of times, where I don't give myself this
rest period that I need and thenI can't function, all that to
say, versus being a human beingwhere you're focused on rest and

(03:23):
acceptance.
And so I think about thispodcast.
I'll be honest when I thinkabout being rooted in identity
and operating from a place ofbeing, this podcast is not
something I actually wanted tostart God and I argued about it
extensively.
I did not want to do thispodcast, but I also knew if God
was calling me to it, then Ijust needed to be obedient and

(03:46):
lean into what he'd asked me tofocus on.
So that's what I did and I waslike, okay, I'm going to talk
about leadership developmentfrom a biblical standpoint and
that's just what we're going todo.
I put effort into the podcast, but not the same amount of
effort that I put into otherprojects.
I didn't have this tight gripof control on the the podcast.

(04:07):
I was just like, okay, god, Ihave no intention to really run
this podcast, so I'm just goingto trust you in this process and
whatever you want to do with it.
If, like, three people listento it, totally fine, I'm cool
with that.
I just didn't have thisemotional attachment to it.
It wasn't who I was.
It had no bearing or reflectionon me other than I was being

(04:29):
obedient to something God calledme to do.
And so all that to say becauseI don't have this tight grip on
this podcast and I'm notobsessed with it.
I'm not looking for certainbenchmarks or results.
The podcast has been phenomenal.
I have had more success withthis podcast than I probably
have with anything else, andI've done a lot of really cool

(04:49):
things with this podcast.
Before we even hit our firstyear, we were in Forbes and a
whole feature on this podcast inForbes.
And then again at that point,13 months into this podcast, I'm
in Forbes again.
This podcast is booked outuntil mid 2025.
I say all that to say like Ididn't have an expectation and I

(05:13):
operated from this place ofrest and identity and obedience
without an expectation and Godhas blown the expectation away
like far and above.
To be perfectly honest, I'mjust super grateful for it.
So that's what I talk aboutwhen I'm talking about being a
human being versus being a humandoing.
I want to talk about thestriving and the burnout,

(05:33):
because I did that.
I even did it last year withKingdom Alliance.
There was something I wasstriving for and I was so overly
focused on it.
I remember I didn't get thereand I was at the gym.
I saw a post come across aboutsome you know, some people like
hitting something that I wasstriving to and I had such a

(05:54):
pity party for my like my wholeidentity was wrapped up in this
achievement and I was sodisappointed in myself and I
cried.
You know, I'm from the gym andI called Molly and I was crying
and she was like it's okay to besad, but also and I was crying
and she was like it's okay to besad, but also you're not this

(06:14):
thing, like you're so much morethan just this one thing, and I
was like, oh yeah, I am.
And so it's kind of wild to mehow I had put so much focus and
energy on this thing.
That doesn't actually mean it'sno reflection of who I am.
There's nowhere in scripturethat says Lemon has to do this
or she's not valuable.
That's just not what scripturesays.

(06:35):
It's not what God says.
And so when I let that go andit's pretty recent that I was
just like, okay, you know what, lord, you're going to do,
whatever you're going to do, andI'm just going to be here and
be obedient and whatever you sayto do, I'm just going to do
that and I'm not going to marrymyself to this thing.
That is not actually areflection of you and who you

(06:56):
say I am.
And so it was a complete shiftfor me thinking about this.
And then again, when I operateand rest in God's strength and
not my own, that is where I havereal fulfillment, that's where
there's true peace.
Like I just don't feel sostressed anymore and it's crazy
because I actually get more done.
And so when I talk about likeresting in God's strength, right

(07:19):
, or this rest, I don't meanthat we're gonna suddenly just,
you know, sit on our couch andbinge watch the Secret Lives of
Mormon Wives, which if you'rewatching that it's so good.
As somebody who used to be achurch member, it's so
fascinating.
So it doesn't mean we're goingto sit and watch all eight
episodes in an afternoon and belike, okay, I rested.

(07:39):
It's not what I mean when Italk about resting, and I say
this before Michelle Schaefer.
She always says, god, I'll dothe work, you handle the results
, and I just I'll do the work, you handle the results, like,
and I just I trust God and Idon't have this tight grip.
Because all that happens when Ihave a tight grip on something,
when I'm trying to controlsomething.
Squeeze your hand real quick.
If you're listening to this, squeeze your hand, squeeze it

(08:00):
really tight, like you've got afirm grip on it.
All you're gonna do is leaveindents in your hand.
You're not actuallyaccomplishing anything.
Let it go, just release it.
However God's going to handle.
And, like I said, this does notmean you're going to release it

(08:23):
and then you're not going totake any action.
But you're not married to theoutcome and you don't base your
identity on the outcome.
You can trust and rest in Godthat he will provide exactly
what you need.
So I just don't stress about it.
I'll be honest.
I just am not stressed anymoreabout it.

(08:43):
So if you're like, okay, I wantto stop being human doing and I
want to be a human being.
I encourage you to do somemindfulness practices.
I want you to spend some timein prayer.
I want you to capture negativethoughts.
Maybe, if you're sitting hereand you're constantly striving
what does God say about thatSatan will use a good thing
against you.

(09:04):
Maybe you're listening and I'mgoing to assume you're a
phenomenal person if you listento this podcast, so he's going
to take whatever impact thingthat you have right.
Maybe I don't know you'd likewant to go dig wells in Africa.
I don't know I'm using such anextreme example, but, like God
wants you to start a ministryfor orphans in your hometown.

(09:25):
Both of those things are good, but maybe digging wells in
Africa is not what God has foryou and Satan will distract you
with a good thing and he willpush you to do something.
Even if it's a good thing andit makes a difference, it's not
the true fulfillment of what Godhas for you.
Digging wells in Africa iswonderful, but maybe God has
something local for you that youneed to be doing and pouring

(09:47):
into.
Don't let Satan distract youwith a good thing.
Focus on the purpose that Godhas for you.
I just saw something the otherday.
It was like don't tell yourkids they can be anything they
want to be.
Tell them they can be the fullpotential of who God wants them
to be.
And I was like, oh, I like thatright, because it's less kind

(10:07):
of on you and more about growinginto this person that God wants
you to be and who he's createdyou to be.
I want to encourage you tofigure out what God's best for
you is not his good, not hisbetter, but what is his best for
you in the season, because whenyou operate in his best and you
rest in what is best, thingswork out a lot better without

(10:30):
the stress, without the hustle.
That's how it is with mypodcast.
There is so much less stress onme and yet it is, hands down,
the most fulfilling thing I havegoing on right now outside of
my family Professionally.
It's so fulfilling and it takesway less of my time.
I get to be present with myfamily and I go do these things.

(10:50):
I want to encourage you tofigure out what your best is,
pray about it and set boundarieswith yourself.
Learn to say no to things justbecause it looks good and
sometimes is a good thing.
Be okay with saying no to it soyou can go do the best thing
God has for you.
Go do the best.
I want you to reflect on yourcurrent approach to life and

(11:13):
then tell me how you're going tostart shifting it.
I might even use your examplesin an upcoming book.
I'm working on a book right now.
I'm working on this projectwith my friend, camille, and
you'll hear from her soon, Ipromise, about this cool project
we're working on with KingdomAlliance.
I'm excited about it.
I was sitting here for weekslike I don't know what I'm going
to write about.
I know I'm supposed to writesomething right now and I don't

(11:33):
know what it is.
Then it was like, oh oh, youneed to.
You need to be a human beingand not a human doing and talk
about that and the experiencesthat you've had.
So I'm working on that rightnow, which is really fun.
You'll have a practical insightand spiritual growth.
I just shared my table ofcontents with some, some ladies,

(11:54):

lookout for that.
