Green Flags for Dating & Relationships

Long term dating and relationships can be very difficult and often impossible, which causes a breakup when one or both parties realize, "I can't continue like this and nothing will change," as we discussed in podcast #15, "Breakups! When to End It?" Millennial Z and Boomer X also talked about what red flags to look for when dating in podcast #14. But in this podcast, #24, Millennial Z and Boomer X discuss signs to look for in order to have a successful relationship for long term purposes, or "Green Flags for Dating & Relationships."

Millennial Z quickly mentioned compatibility of personality and similar senses of humor. Truly, if a person has a very different sense of humor, or sees your sly smile and wink while saying something outrageous due to the absurdity of a behavior or situation as hurtful, and offensively sarcastic it's doubtful that a long term relationship unless someone suddenly changes their perception of your intentions or their own worldview which is very unlikely.

Boomer X brought up the behavior of conscientiousness and how that behavior displays respect for others while holding oneself accountable for actions or inactions due to relationships with others and corresponding consequences. Consideration and thoughtfulness were other mentions with explanations and examples given.

Both mentioned a respect for personal boundaries and a desire for compromise as necessary for real long term success, and they also talked about false green flags, or behaviors or signs of compatibility for potential long term success that truly don't mean anything for relationship commitment. Often these "false green flags" are just something people enjoy in a partner, but don't have the impact to relationship longevity people think they do.
