Welcome to the Mind Sensei Podcast! I’m delighted to introduce our guest today,

Mr. Charles Johnson, a truly inspiring figure in the world of fencing.

Charlie’s journey in fencing began in 1984 at the age of 34, and over the past four decades, he has distinguished himself as a competitor, coach, and leader. His impressive career includes competing at national levels and playing key roles in organizing major events like the Junior Olympics and National Championships.

As a dedicated coach at the Southwest Florida Fencing Academy, Charlie has nurtured some of Florida’s top fencers and made significant contributions to the U.S. Para Fencing Program. Notably, he coached athletes at the Tokyo Paralympics, showcasing his commitment to excellence and inclusivity. His coaching philosophy emphasizes respect for individuality and the importance of sportsmanship, values that are beautifully encapsulated in the Charles Johnson Sportsperson Award, which honors courage, honor, and dignity.

Join me as we embark on a fascinating two-part journey with Charlie. In these episodes, we’ll delve into his inspiring story, explore the mental aspects of fencing, and uncover how this sport has profoundly shaped his life and the lives of his students. Today, in Part 1, we’ll set the stage for his remarkable career and experiences. Welcome, Mr. Charles Johnson!
