mwcockerillI welcome to mind frames the sometimes halfass but always wholehearted film conversation. We like to take 1 film use. Our 2 minds look through it with our 2 different frames try to pull out 1 idea 1 theme. That may be of interest to you when you have your chance to view that film Dave I am one of your hosts Michael Cockroll Dave who are you.
(00:37):
Dave My name is Dave Canfield and I'm the other host who is not Michael Cockwell
mwcockerillAnd what film are we discussing today. Dave.
Dave We are talking about I saw the tv glow the newest film from non-binary filmmaker Jane schonbrum. Ah her first film. We ah, we're all going to the world's fair ah dealt with similar themes of. Isolation and coming of age and identity ah in the in the burbs and it um was extremely well received kind of a sleeper hit. Um this film has been wildly well received. And really has people chomping in the bit to see what Jane does next.
(01:33):
mwcockerillI oh yeah, sorry for the delay there couldn find my unmee button but um, yeah, they've been around the indie circuit for quite some time graduate of the boston university the film program there and helped guide a lot of people when they were an employee of the. Independent filmmaker project. So they have been in the biz for some time as they told us when we saw this film with them at musicbox. So by the time they got around to doing. We're all going to the world's fair which is available streaming everywhere. They kind of had the system down. Which enabled to oh my gosh second film only getting ah getting um, distributed by a 24 and hooking up with to quote the to quote Steve for krupty at at the interview Steve P sorry I that
(02:28):

mwcockerillFor cope I miss I butchered his last name but that's okay, he never talks to me anyway. So who cares about his last name anyway, um, yeah, so as we heard through that great interview between those 2 Ah.
(02:49):
Dave Ah.
mwcockerillEmma Stone's production company is also involved here so second film already getting moving way up so that the latter well deserved I think we both like this movie. Um, and it feels like a bigger movie than it is.
Dave It's It's amazing to watch them um work the system. Um that they've been in you know? Ah so many people you know the the old dream was you know, throw everything in the back of your car move to hollywood.
(03:22):
Dave Try to make it big in the movies and I you know when you get to see somebody just succeed from the gate and continue succeeding and continue to be recognized when they really do obviously have the talent. Um, that's the kind of that's the kind of thing that makes people just. Feel good about about you know the state of the film industry I I Wish we had a thousand more stories like this.
(03:52):
mwcockerillGreat. Yep so a lot of the themes have continued on Dave you kind of nailed them all. It's a kind of a genrebending film whether it's horror or not It's definitely being kind of marketed as horror. But I don't think it passes the horror test for me I know we argue over this every. Episode. Um, you said Frankenstein wasn't horror last time. no no no I just kidding you said you said 21 you you said twenty one days later wasn't a zombie movie. So I wow ah, but what weather.
(04:15):
Dave Um I Did you know what.
Dave That's a different that's a whole different conversation. No carol will know carol and go go ahead.
mwcockerillWhether this is a horror movie or not, you know it doesn't matter. But it's definitely somewhere on the lines of psychological horror horror movie. Ah, the the main horror is psychological in my opinion. But this movie is also very open to an opinion we should.
(04:40):
Dave So well.
mwcockerillShould say that I don't think you're going to get 2 interpretations of this film out of it. Maybe even one viewer. Yeah, everyone's going to come with at least 1 of their own interpretations.
Dave No I think you're nothing. Yeah, that's a great that's a great way to put it I think this is the kind of film that kind of morphs into different ah a different beast
