Welcome to the podcast.
So I want to start off to saythis is going to be one of the
(01:08):
most ambiguous episodes I'veever done, because we're going
to talk about control.
So the reason why I want to getinto this topic of conversation
is there is a lot Of people whostill have the belief that
hypnosis is a form of mindcontrol.
I still hear.
You know most of the time isjoking around.
Are you going to make me clocklike a chicken?
(01:29):
Oh, you're going to make mebark like a dog.
And you know, because I'veheard it so often and it's kind
of just the whole cliche ofhypnosis, I'll usually say you
know, clocking like a chicken ison Tuesdays and barking like a
dog is on Friday, so no, nottoday.
But there's something behindall that, especially when
somebody truly believes aboutmind control and especially when
(01:50):
you have, you know, tv showsthat have hypnosis Doing mind
control.
So a few things.
We are not into mind control atall.
Will we use language patternsthat work on your subconscious
mind?
Yes.
Are we like a detective who cannotice your body language and
(02:12):
notice when something is makingyou uncomfortable?
Yes.
Will you tell us your secrets?
No, no, that was the case.
I would be rich because I wouldknow your pass codes.
So no.
Can you hide a lie underhypnosis?
Absolutely.
If you have the value Allowsyou to lie about something, you
(02:37):
will lie under hypnosis.
It's no different.
You're not going to change yourmind all of a sudden.
Have it be a truth serum.
That's not going to happen.
However, saying all that, thereare bad hypnotists out there
and there are hypnotists whowill do their best to trick you
or, to you know, use languagepatterns that are not what I
(02:59):
would call ethical.
So, yes, that can happen.
Now I said this was going to beambiguous.
So is there control in hypnosis?
Yes, but we don't control yourmind.
You do.
You were the one who dictatesthe change that you want to make
.
If you are going to a hypnotist, you want to solve a problem
(03:22):
and you want to gain control ofthat situation.
We help you to make that changeby helping you to get rid of
the control that is keeping youstuck, and we do that by helping
to change your subconsciousmind, because everything is held
there.
But you have to understand thesubconscious mind is just a
storehouse and it is so good atstarring things and keeping
(03:45):
things and holding on to things, even if you don't need them.
You even hold on to beliefs, and I will get into that in a
little bit.
I like to say the things wehold on tight to Are usually the
things we need to releasecontrol over.
Those are the things we need tochange the most.
And your mind is changeable.
(04:06):
It is, but it also takesrepetition.
Now that I've said all that, I'mgoing to become very
metaphysical here Because, as Isaid, this is a very ambiguous
topic because I have multiplebeliefs going on at once.
Um, control is an illusion Ifyou break it down to the
(04:26):
fundamental.
What do we really have controlover?
We have about as much controlas an ant on a cosmic level.
If you look at who we are andwhat we are, and if you take the
view up in the sky and then youlook down at this massive
planet, I mean we are just tinylittle ants trying to control
(04:47):
our tiny little world.
We Can't control our thinkingbecause our brain automatically
thinks for us.
We can't control mother natureshe does exactly what she wants.
We can't control the futurebecause the future doesn't
matter and no matter how you tryto plan for the future, it will
(05:08):
never turn out exactly like youthink it will.
It will change, even ifslightly.
There will be change, but we doeverything we can To maintain
control on our life, don't weeverything?
When we hold on too tight tocontrol, we are actually out of
control, and the need to controloften manifests in OCD, anxiety
(05:33):
, fears and everything inbetween.
I have a cat right now who'srunning around meowing in every
room, so you'll probably hearher.
And I like to let you know Ican't control that.
There were just too many valuevariables in life to have total
control.
(05:53):
But what can you control?
Habits you can control andChange your habits if you wish
your outlook, keeping in mindthat you do have a negative bias
to keep you safe.
But otherwise you can changeyour outlook yourself.
Talk, the way you view yourself.
(06:16):
And I did mention a littleearlier thoughts you can't
change the Stream of thoughtsbecause there are many people
who just have a stream ofthoughts, especially as over
thinkers.
They just continues on and ifyou notice them you'll realize
that they really do just come inand go out.
(06:36):
But you can change how youattach your emotions to them and
what you'll allow to bother you.
Beliefs this one is toughbecause beliefs are something
that we believe to be truedespite facts.
A person can hold onto a beliefand it doesn't matter what
(06:59):
facts are there to dispute it,and this means you have to
change your bias and perceptionabout that belief, and that can
sometimes be difficult.
It's hard to change and I'llgive you an example.
You can tell somebody that theearth is not flat.
We do not have a flat earth.
It is frigging round and nomatter how often you tell that
(07:23):
person that, if they trulybelieve that the earth is flat,
they will hold onto that beliefdespite every single fact you
give them.
So, when it comes to beliefs, Ilike to break it down, going
from the all of nothing, becausemost beliefs do have a kind of
(07:43):
all or nothing component to them.
Many of them do, and thesebeliefs control our lives.
So just humor me for a minuteand think of something that you
feel has total control over yourlife.
Please, I beg you, do not use aperson, because if a person has
(08:04):
control, total control overyour life, then that is
unhealthy and that is somethingyou need to work on, and this
exercise won't work for that.
That is just a no, a hard no.
Nobody should have control overyour life except for you.
I want you to think of that, something that is causing you
angst, and then, when you get it, and you have it in your body
(08:26):
and you notice it, I want you toask this question and this is a
Byron Katie question, and Ilove Byron Katie because she
brings an element of questioningthat is very powerful.
So when you have this belief inyour mind, I want you to ask
this question Is this belief100% true?
Again, we tend to be all ornothing thinkers.
(08:48):
So if you can do that and youcan find a crack in that belief
that proves that it's not 100%true, then you can start to
change that belief, because onceyou put a crack in it, it can
start to disintegrate andpossibly there is a way to
actually bring facts in thatwill make a difference.
Now the other question is whatcan I gain by not believing this
(09:11):
?
How will my life change?
So take those two questions.
Whenever you have a very strongbelief and you're trying to see
a different perspective or gaincontrol over these beliefs, give
that a try.
Now, again, this is a veryambiguous episode and there's a
lot of different directions togo, but the bottom line is that
(09:33):
you are in control of makingchoices and you are in control
of making decisions, but inorder to make a decision, you
have to give up some control.
Does that make sense?
It's the control of the unknown, because you don't know where
that decision is going to go andyou don't know what changes
you're going to make because ofit and because change is not
(09:56):
always that easy, we want tocontrol and stay in our
comforting little bubble, so tospeak.
So again, let's go back to thatquestion that we started off
with Can hypnosis take controlof your life?
We're back to yes and no.
No, a hypnotist can't controlyour beliefs or your values.
(10:17):
You have to do that.
But hypnosis can help you ifyou choose to.
And yes, it can control yourlife in the sense that when you
start to use hypnosis, eitherwith the hypnotist or
self-hypnosis, you start tonotice that you have more
control over you yourself, yourbeliefs, your thoughts, the way
(10:42):
you view yourself, how you talkabout yourself, how you talk to
yourself.
And that is powerful control.
