(00:55):
stronger.
Let's go.
Do you find yourself resistingchange at work, your mind
clouded by fear and uncertainty, longing for the comfort of
familiar routines?
Fear of change can diminish thejoyful light of professional

(01:19):
growth, leaving you feelingunsupported and disconnected
from exciting new opportunities.
In the upcoming Mindful in 5book, Phoenix Rising Ignite your
Job Search.
You will meet Jillian Adams, chief marketing officer of a
company who is flying high, until she is unexpectedly let go

(01:44):
.
She does not take that well atall, and you journey with her
into her dark season in what isan unfortunate but such a common
experience for many employeeswho find themselves in the same
situation.
So today we are exploring howto embrace change with grace,

(02:08):
bringing a clearer, morepeaceful approach to
professional transitions, likethe kids in this season's
imagery.
I invite you to come at it withthe beginner's mind.
It with the beginner's mindCurious, trusting, authentic,

(02:33):
creative, resilient andoptimistic.
Imagine approaching workplacechanges with calm curiosity,
seeing them as joyfulopportunities for growth rather
than threats.
By developing a mindset ofadaptability, you can create a
softer, more supportive responseto the ever-evolving work
environment.

(02:54):
Let's explore a soothingtechnique that I call the change
reframe, and here's how itworks.
Here's how it works.
Identify a change that you arefacing at work, approaching it
with gentle awareness.
Sometimes we spend so much timetrying to pretend that change

(03:16):
isn't happening that even thatbecomes the stressor.
Right.
So face the change, because itis much better for you to ride
the wave with that change thanit is for that change to knock
you off your surfboard and washover you when you are not ready.

(03:42):
The second step is list threepotential concerns.
Acknowledge each one withpeaceful acceptance.
There is a reason why we runaway from change.
There is a reason why we don'twant to face it, and sometimes
it's because we have these bigunexpressed worries.

(04:05):
And the more that we try andrun away, the more that we
ignore them, the bigger they getand the scarier they get.
So by listing them, you aremaking them smaller and then
more manageable, and that allowsyou to start to address them.
Because I like to say, youcannot change what you do not

(04:27):
acknowledge.
So that is the logic for listingthe three potential concerns
that you have about thispotential change, without
judgment and with just peacefulacceptance.
I am concerned about thischange because I am worried
about my team, because I'mworried about myself, because
I'm concerned about my team, because I'm worried about myself
, because I'm concerned aboutthe future of my company,

(04:49):
because, whatever it is, butlist them honestly, because
Nobody else is going to see them, just you.
And then, for each concern, identify one possible positive
outcome or opportunity.
Oftentimes, when change happens, the people who are able to

(05:10):
jump on that wave and ride withit are the ones who show up
within the organization as thechange makers, as the people who
can lead the rest of theirteams through the change, the
people who are not stickingtheir heads in the sand and who
are looking creatively at howcan we use this point in the

(05:36):
company's growth or the point ofchange within this organization
to maybe do things we couldn'tdo before, or maybe create new
positive direction that we didnot have before.
So this is the logic for eachconcern identify one positive

(05:59):
outcome or opportunity, even ifit is one of your own making,
frankly, especially if it is oneof your own making.
And that takes us to the fourthstep, which is create an action
plan to maximize benefits.
Is create an action plan tomaximize benefits, embracing the

(06:20):
change with cheerfuldetermination.
Frankly, wallowing and mourningthe change is not going to help
you.
It will not help your mindset.
You might, in fact, find thatyou are one of many people who
are wallowing in fear and upsetover whatever the change is, but

(06:50):
chances are that attitude isnot going to help you and it is
probably not going to changewhatever the change is that's
coming.
So this is the logic ofembracing that change by
creating this action plan tomaximize whatever benefits you
see as potential opportunitiesand having that cheerful sense
of determination like, yeah, wecan do this.
And that is how you embracechange with grace.

(07:14):
Studies show that this type ofcognitive reframing can
significantly reduce anxietyabout change, fostering a more
peaceful and adaptableprofessional mindset.
And who doesn't want that right?
The thought-provoking hopefullyperspective I will leave you

(07:36):
with is hopefully perspective Iwill leave you with is change
isn't just something thathappens to you.
It can be a joyful invitationto shape your world in new and
clear ways.
In my first in-house role, Iworked at a company in Des

(07:57):
Moines called the PrincipalFinancial Group and I had this
amazing vice president of mydepartment at the time who later
actually became the presidentof the company, and that just
tells you what an innovativethinker and what a wonderful
leader he was.
But he and I were having acareer conversation one day

(08:19):
where I was asking him aboutpotential career opportunities
for me at the company.
It was a mentoring conversationand he said his name was Larry.
And Larry said something thatI've never forgotten for my
entire career.
He said Spiwe, sometimes whenemployees look at their careers,

(08:41):
they are looking primarily atthose careers in the context of
what is available and visible tothem, what I encourage you to
do, he said.
For people like you, jobs willbe created.
So don't limit yourself to thejobs that you can see, that are

(09:06):
posted on any given day, becausecompanies create jobs all the
time.
So think more about the kind ofwork that would excite you to
do, the kind of solutions youwould like to address and where
you either want to hone yourskills or where you bring really

(09:30):
solid expertise to solve thekinds of problems that the
organization is facing.
And so I pass that along andencourage anybody who is
thinking about a shift in yourrole and as you are reframing,
change from something that youcannot control that is happening

(09:51):
to you, to something that youcan jump on and ride the way for
and find new opportunities tothrive.
So here is your cheerfulchallenge for the week Apply the

(10:11):
change reframe technique to acurrent change in your
professional life.
Notice how it brings a softer, more supported energy to your
approach and hopefully it alsohelps you sleep better at night.
