(00:00):
Welcome to Real Talk, the podcast where we get on us about
what's really going on in your body and how to take control of
your health. I'm your host, doctor Daniel
Spruill, integrative health practitioner and professor, and
today we're diving into a conversation that's real for
just about everyone. Why is it so hard to stay
consistent even when we know what to do?
We're talking about emotional, social, financial, and practical
(00:22):
blocks that make it hard to stayon a healing plan.
This isn't about willpower. It's about life, right?
Life gets the best of us. We're going to unpack how we
want you to, how you could tell to tell on when to push.
This is about willpower. It's about life.
We're going to unpack how to tell when to push, when the
(00:43):
pause, and what might actually be sabotaging your progress.
Hi everyone, welcome back. I've had days where I'm on it
and then boom like anybody else life gets in the way.
Work, stress, time, money, and there's sometimes that I get in
over my head, I / I overtake orders for the weekend and now
(01:04):
I'm struggling to find that timeand then my drive starts.
But I think a lot of people feelthat way, where they put too
much on their plate. So today is not about being
perfect, it's about being real. And I just heard a quote today
that said you don't got to be great to start, you got to start
to be great. Yeah, for sure.
(01:24):
For sure. Exactly.
And just a quick reminder beforewe get started this podcast for
information educational purposesonly, we do not diagnose, cure
or treat any illness or disease. So let's breakdown what's really
getting the way of healing and how to move forward.
So let's start with something most people need to hear.
If you've fallen off track with your health, it's probably
nothing to do with motivation. We're told over and over if you
(01:45):
want it bad enough, you'll make it happen.
And that pressure, too, always is with it being on can make us
feel that sometimes we're the problem.
But motivation isn't never ending fuel tank, right?
It runs low, especially when your body stressed, inflamed,
undernourished or even tired. So I get why people just don't
have the energy to continue. But that's where coming to a
(02:06):
health coach we could help. What do you think?
Yeah. I couldn't have said it any
better, but it's easy to speak on it.
I'm going to change this, I'm going to change that.
But when it comes to it, do we finish it?
Do we finish where we started? Do we let a lot of unfinished
projects on unfinished? And it's not just me speaking
(02:27):
about myself, but it could be something that you started up a
book club, you started a book, you started on.
How about the people that started the gym January 1st?
Are they still in it at this moment?
So it's just it's very easy to fade away.
Now for sure it is. Could you think too, hey, I'm
(02:47):
eating proper and then you have a family birthday party?
And that's I am guilty for that.Yeah, everybody is right.
You want to enjoy the food too. And a lot of people don't want
to be the odd person out and stuff too.
But remember it is OK to say no.And if there's something there,
I with lactose intolerance, you just have to decide, do I, am I
going to eat this? And if you do, what's going to
(03:08):
happen? Exactly.
No. And then the consequences,
that's what's going to happen. But to me personally, I feel
that to keep me motivated, I feel like I need to move out of
the state to be somewhere where there's constant sun, constant
heat. I could I for myself, I do get
the seasonal Blues. It's right now during what would
(03:30):
you call this right now, spring or late spring or early spring?
That summer in a couple weeks. Yeah, summer in a couple weeks.
So right now this is my thrivingweather.
I love it. The sun goes down later on, I
get more daytime, more projects that I'm able to get done
knockout. But once fall starts, the sun
starts setting in a lot earlier.I lose the motivation.
(03:51):
Like I just start the drive thatI have, it's just not there
anymore. No, I think everybody's tired
too. And who likes winter?
There's a lot of people that do like winter.
I don't know how I would do. How would you do living in a
place that's more employment allthe time?
Only spot I could think of my head right now would be Arizona.
I think it would take some time to adapt because us in the
(04:16):
Midwest, we're used to the hot summers and we love the mild
fall. For me, I like the cold 'cause I
could take so many layers off and I'm feel comfortable.
People that work inside don't like the cold, but I do.
Yeah, it's but right where you're saying before it gets
dark at 4:00 in the winter time, that's the worst.
(04:38):
Nobody likes that. No, absolutely no.
And then as well, some people know this.
I'm a mail carrier and there's times that I clock out 435
o'clock and it's getting dark. I can't imagine the carriers
that are doing 12 hour days and they're working 4 plus hours in
the dark with your headlamps on.Because they get to work early,
(04:59):
get to work at night time or at dark time and leave dark time.
Exactly. Yeah.
It's, it's tough. And we all go through different
stages in life. And you have things happen, you
get sick. And that's how I say, I always
say is you don't realize how important your health is or how
you feel until you're sick. And it's, I didn't realize how
(05:20):
good I felt yesterday and then you're sick today.
And man, you really feel a difference a lot of people take
for granted. No, I, yeah, the start of this
week I started, I had a sore throat and my go to and I've
said it before, would be the oregano within the next day.
I took it two days in a row in the afternoon.
(05:41):
By the third day it was already gone.
But that's just, that's working on me.
That's something that I that's my antibiotic.
I like it. It works for me.
It may or may not work for others.
Yeah, the big thing always when somebody's getting sick, vitamin
CD3K2, zinc, those are big ones,so.
That's my night routine, plus the oil oregano.
(06:01):
And like he brought up, it's hisnight routine, meaning that a
lot of people when they get sick, they think, oh, I'll take,
I'll eat an orange. 1 orange doesn't have enough vitamin C in
it. You'd have to eat probably like
2-3 hundred oranges. But say you eat an orange or say
take vitamin C, they take it onetime.
You're like, Oh yeah, vitamin C is not working well.
It takes time to build up in your body.
(06:22):
That's why you got to take it before you're sick, not when
just when you're sick. Exactly.
Yeah, it's different. It's there.
There's so much miss informationout there too.
So people get confused and that's another reason why people
quit too. We'll talk about that more too,
but they get so confused or I just saw this video back.
How did we see for years and years where it's you need to eat
(06:42):
eggs every day and then you see a news, oh, do not eat eggs.
They're dangerous for you. 2 years later, you need to eat
eggs because if you don't eat eggs, you're missing this.
And that goes two years later. Note this makes you wonder the
political stance behind that versus the science behind.
It the pyramid has to be flippedupside down.
Yeah, and that's another thing that people see is that food
(07:04):
pyramid. That's something we do not, we
do not kind of preach on that food pyramid.
We think it's incorrect. And there's other ways and
better nutrition out there. And you could visit
mindfulobjective.com/resources for some healthy shopping lists
and how to read food labels and stuff too.
So I do see it all time. People do start strong, like you
(07:24):
said, Maybe it's a new workout program.
A lot of times we'll see change in their meals, even starting
supplements, right? But then it hits stress at work,
family emergency, bad sleep, just plain overwhelmed.
And it could be based on body pain too, right?
It's I'm having all these other issues too.
It's just I'm in pain, I'm giving up and everything starts
(07:45):
to feel too hard. Then comes the guilt spiral.
I think a lot of us felt this way before in the past.
It's almost that I always fall off, right?
I can't keep it going. I'm not disciplined, I just
don't care enough. But that's not the truth.
The real issue isn't lack of motivation, it's usually what
lack of support, stability and asystem.
(08:06):
Motivation is emotional. Systems are what are care to
keep you going when emotions dip.
And that's what a healthcare coach is for, right?
How's that helped you? Having like motivation or being
accountable? Hey, did you take your vitamins?
Hey, did you do this? That's exactly it.
Just planning prepping for me. I know by 9:00 PM, that's when
I'm taking my nice supplements. That's me.
(08:27):
It's just making a list, making on what things I got to do for
the night, making sure I'm not going to overbook myself for the
weekend, just spacing things out.
When's the best day for me to record this pod with you?
It's just as long as you have a routine and then there's things
and there's always going to be wiggle room for a lot of things
because I could burn myself out every single day if I wanted to
(08:49):
come home from work by 5:00 and then just stay out till 10:30 at
night in the garage working. But that's not healthy.
I need a I have a life, I have my kids.
I like to sit down and have dinner with the family.
I build more comfortable when I know everyone's taking care of
the kids are all right. But a huge shout out to the
wife. She's the one that's taking the
(09:10):
most bulk of the house care because I'm at work, then in
during the day and then at nighttime I'm at work, but I'm in the
garage and I'll stop here and there.
But she's the one that's pullinga double shift and I'm and I am
grateful for that. Now what do you do when you fall
off track? What I that's when I start
feeling bad. I, I fall, I, what do I do when
(09:32):
I fall off track? I that's when you get the
worries get to start to sink in with if you don't have Jesus in
your life, you start to worry. And it's, there's so many things
out there that it's what do I do?
I some, some might say you get quiet, you get depressed.
It's just getting back on the horse.
(09:54):
That's the hard part. Yeah, and you just know, like
you, you missed those supplements.
And then most people start thinking, man, now, you know,
I've been doing this for weeks and now it's going to mess up my
whole system. It's going to do this.
It's an easy way to fall off track is when you don't have
stock of supplements. Guys, he's talking about me.
About a week or two weeks ago I sent him a text late at night
(10:18):
and a very encrypted message. I was like, hey, tonight would
be the last night I take my nicesupplements and he's like,
you're all right, man. Yeah, I'm just, I just ran out
of supplements and he told me this is what you got to have a
back stock. Luckily for me, I know him.
I always, I'm the one that's always buying his stock.
Thank you for that. I always keep stock.
(10:38):
I have to. It's one of those things where
it just drives me insane. Like especially if I don't have
something I'm running low, then one is sometimes you don't have
the funds to buy it at that timeor two it's now I have to wait
three to five days for shipping and I just get annoyed easily
like that. I just have rather buy a couple
extra bottles and just sit on it.
And a lot of again, supplements last a long time.
(11:00):
So it just don't go by best use date.
You could go way beyond that. And this is when prepping is
key, especially for supplements.I know we had a previous pod,
the audio wasn't the best, but we'll do another one similar to
that one to to just put down allthe same topics that we talked
about it on the previous pod, but I promise the audio will be
(11:22):
better on that one. Yeah, that that was my mistake
there. I was testing out different
cameras and stuff and it picked up a different microphone and
stuff. So that was probably the worst
audio podcast on the supplement one.
But so again, like he's saying, healing doesn't mean to be
perfect, right? You got to be adaptable.
It's knowing when to lean in, when to pull back.
I had a client who told me I wasthe healthiest when I was
(11:44):
drinking more water, walking daily and eating real food.
No extremes, no tracking apps. And I think that's the lesson.
It's not about going all in, It's about doing enough to
consistently keep your momentum. No, and there's a big difference
from like doing enough and trying to be perfect.
For me, I'm a perfectionist. I I have an eye for detail.
(12:08):
So a project that might take some two hours, that might take
me double that, but I want the finished product to always be as
perfect at the end of the day. What I am recommending, what I
am talking, what I am selling asfar as like planter and my
summer side job or I'm sorry, mysummer business, it's at the end
(12:32):
of the day, it's my name on it. It's.
And we all know word of mouth goes a long way.
So I do my best to perfect everything that I do.
But there are this year I'm noticing a lot of more better
differences from last year because last year I was burning
myself out. This year with me getting better
(12:52):
sleep, better hydration, electrolytes, eating better,
praying, worshipping while I'm working, that's what gets me by.
That's what helps me a lot. So what happens when you notice
you're not drinking enough? I feel like crap and that's just
not me, just that. But that's everyone.
And yes, I could be drinking 5 gallons of water by itself, but
(13:13):
that's not enough. A tiny pinch of Celtic sea salt,
electrolytes in your water. Finding the right electrolyte
for you. For anyone out there, it's key.
But electrolytes don't get a much, They don't get a lot of
love as they should. But then again, I'm the one
working outside. I'm the one that's sweating the
(13:35):
most. So if anybody's out there that's
working outside, definitely invest in electrolytes.
Yeah. And you got to watch out to
which electrolyte product you buy because a lot are just crazy
amounts of sodium. And Doctor Rhonda Patrick just
did a episode not too long ago about the amount of sodium we
really need versus what's in a lot of the products.
(13:56):
So there are different ones we recommend and stuff too.
But some of the products that are out there have crazy amounts
of sodium, 1000 milligrams or something.
If somebody has bad blood pressure issues that's sensitive
to sodium, it's going to really increase your blood pressure.
One thing you want to do, look for a great product.
But that's why if you have any questions, any recommendations,
don't hesitate to e-mail us and we'll get you on the right
(14:17):
track. But we we always think, what do
we need to make a change or whatdo we need to feel better?
We will always overestimate. Always.
Yeah, and I tell people you don't always need a new
supplement to reboot your health.
Maybe just need to stop skippingmeals or stop staying up past
midnight. Or drink water before coffee.
I think that's a big one. That's the biggest change for me
(14:39):
and lately when here we've been having high 80s.
Yesterday was 90. Usually I would drink my coffee
and I would drag it on till 12:30 or so.
But lately as long as I finish it before 11 AM and I'm just
rehydrating my body to withstandthe heat, I've been feeling way
(15:01):
better. It's like it's my body is very
different from last year. I could tell you that much right
now. Yeah, because people need to
realize too, caffeine dehydratesyou.
So if you're ready dehydrated, it's going to make things worse.
For me. The biggest difference when you
add like drinking water, I always do first thing in the
morning electrolytes and soon asI'm done with electrolytes, then
I do my amount of protein. Then if I have coffee, I'd have
(15:22):
coffee the other day. And this is common why I don't
do it often. I had coffee before doing any of
that stuff, and coffee to me like that without taking
anything prior, my heart's racing like crazy and it gives
me bad anxiety. Like really bad.
Like horrible. And and to go off of that one,
(15:43):
you said yours was last week. The coffee thing.
Yeah, in a couple days ago. OK mine was maybe 2 weeks ago.
We went to a coffee shop, they sold decorative conchas, the
Mexican style conchas. Their coffees looked great
online so the wife and I went there.
This, it was just we went on a whim.
(16:06):
We didn't go. We didn't eat anything.
We just went straight there and got the coffees and they were
lattes. They weren't even coffees from
the one from the location close to us.
We drove maybe 20 minutes away. I drank maybe half of that one.
And I told my wife almost instantly my energy levels just
tanked and I was not feeling good.
(16:28):
I just didn't want. If I was at home I would have
taken a nap and that was literally maybe a two hours
after I had woken up. Almost like it had ashwagandha
in it. Yeah, and it's to me, and I know
it was the amount of sugar that was in it.
And I'm used to waking up, having an apple, hydrating, and
then having an apple on my way to work, and then just sipping
(16:50):
on my coffee in the office. And right before I hit the
street. Then I finished my coffee.
Yeah, he likes work in the streets.
I am from the streets. I'm from the streets.
So I always tell people at leaststart with at least a 21 day
functional medicine detox to a kick start their journey.
And if your nervous system is dysregulated, if your body feels
like it's under threat all time,no amount of grind is going to
(17:12):
work. I've noticed a huge difference
since I've been taking them. I will always compare this year
me compared to my last year me and it's just a huge different
by the time I would get off of and I'm comparing it to a hot
day last year to a hot day that we just had yesterday and it's
just different now I get home from work, I'm fully hydrated,
(17:34):
electrolytes are in the system, Celtic salt is in my system.
I'm retaining the water that I'msupposed to.
I'm having a great meal. Shout out to the wife.
And I know the supplements are in my body doing what they're
supposed to do. And now I know I take them at
night though, and I still feel like they work during the whole
day. It's not just he takes them at
night. They're going to work for the
(17:55):
night time. No, I know they're in my system.
Vitamin D, that's to me, that's the biggest 1.
And that's the biggest. I know my, we know that vitamin
D is a hormone. And I could tell you this right
now with confidence. I know my hormone levels were
out of whack last year compared to now.
Oh yeah, so that's why I asked clients why can't they stay
(18:17):
motivated? Some questions will ask us what
support systems do they have in place?
What drains their energy daily? What's the reason for wanting to
feel better? That's pretty easy to answer for
most people, yeah. And I know money is the issue
for some, but they need to understand that it's better to
address issues now before they're bad.
Being sick is a very expensive. Yeah.
(18:38):
And that's what is your favoriteline that that you say?
Yeah, if you can't afford to be healthy, you really can't afford
to be sick. There it is.
You heard it here. Yeah.
And and that is true because just for anybody out there, are
they prepared? Are they?
Somebody gets the flu tomorrow. You think they're going to read?
(19:01):
I hope most of our listeners already has the stock of their
own holistic medication that they take.
Some might. Some regular person out there
might just get sick and go to Walgreens and spend double the
price of a medication and they'll just dose themselves
that way. But sometimes those medications
(19:23):
make them feel a lot worse than what they were before.
Yeah, and I think too, when you're sick like that too, you
just read anything, Google anything and take anything.
You will self diagnose yourself and Google will.
The last resort will always say you have cancer.
Yeah, and you're going to die soon, Yeah.
I have a Nosebleed. You got cancer.
(19:43):
I got an ingrown nail. You got cancer.
It's do not over. Diagnose.
Yeah, do not over diagnose yourself please.
Yeah, I see a medical professional.
Yeah, it's, I understand the anxiety part.
When you start getting sick and stuff, you start to worry.
But that's where it's two thingsproper.
And we said when is your health important to you?
Is it when you're sick, when youhave a heart attack, when you
(20:06):
have cancer? Then you care.
That's why I say people should start being more proactive and
start somewhere. Doesn't have to be quick.
You don't have to be perfect, but at least get started right,
At least initially, right? Start with your nutrition, start
with your hydration. See how it goes.
But yeah, we have to stop blaming ourselves for not being
endlessly motivated. Life is messy.
(20:27):
Life is hard. Healing happens in the middle of
that mess, not outside of it, Right?
So we always say start with something manageable.
All right? Nothing too extreme. 15 minute
walk, drink more water. Say no to what drains you.
Does that work? Is it stress?
Is it a client? Is it a a boss telling you do
this, do that, do this, do that? You got to go slow, right?
(20:51):
Get better 1% a day all right. Not perfect, just better.
One of the biggest things is that people need to manage is to
not let superiors bring down their mood just because they
said no, just because they spoketo you a certain way, don't let
(21:12):
that dictate the rest of your day.
Cilencio, Signor. Sorry.
So this yeah, this episode is not about pushing harder, It's
about pushing smarter and realizing that motivation might
not be the missing piece. It's just be grace structure and
the right kind of support. So same.
What do we do if we don't have the support?
People do not like feedback. I get it.
(21:34):
None of us like feedback. Everybody loves feedback.
Oh, good job. But they don't like, oh, you
need to do this better. You need to correct this.
None of us like that, but we need to hear it.
If not, we don't know how to improve.
And the same thing with you may come to us and we're here to
coach you, not judge you, right? So we come and say, like Geraldo
could explain it, that hey, Dan,I'm taking this.
(21:55):
Why are you taking that? You shouldn't be taking that
based on your levels and stuff. You should be doing this, right?
So it's just that feedback. We need to understand what
you're going through, where you need help, and how we can help
coach you in the right direction.
Yeah. And it's, it's and it's one of
those things too. It's there's many out there that
are struggling and they just do not know where to start.
(22:16):
Some might be over, like embarrassed, but you need to
start to get on the health journey now before it's too
late. Yeah, and that's what we're
trying to do with these podcasts, right?
We're not making money off thesepodcasts or anything.
We're doing it to educate everybody.
And the goal is rather than you come into one of us and spending
(22:38):
all this money for us to just tell you, track your food, eat
better, all this stuff, you could try all that yourself
first, right? If you're still struggling when
you try this or you need that motivation, that coach behind
you, that's when you come to us.You tried eating better, you
tried doing this, you tried walking and it's not changing.
Maybe we need to run labs, maybewe do these things, but it's not
you're having to spend the moneyto do that.
(22:59):
So at least start off slow. Listen to podcast.
There's a lot of good podcasts out there.
Get information, do your own research, identify, don't
blindly take supplements, right? We always speak, and you'll hear
everybody speak on the foundational supplements, which
are a multivitamin, vitamin C, vitamin D3K2, zinc, B complex,
(23:21):
omega-3. Those are besides protein and
your nutrition stuff. Those are things you want to
start with. Everybody could benefit from
those. Outside of those, do you really
need them? That's what you know.
We don't know until we test or until we understand what your
symptoms are. But what we need to talk about
is something that's not discussed enough is when it
comes to staying healthy, is thesocial and emotional side of it.
(23:42):
Think a lot of people experienceissues with that.
No. And the social and emotional
side of it, definitely. There's people out there that
ever since the pandemic, people don't really.
They're not the same anymore. No, and people don't need a
perfect plan, right. A lot of people that do have
perfect plan right. You get those out there that are
very into having that perfect plan, meal prep, supplements,
(24:05):
workouts, but the moment you walk into a family gathering,
like we're saying a restaurant holiday party, things change.
It's not about being healthy, it's about being normal again,
what's polite and what keeps everyone else comfortable.
And that's I'm sure many know I'm a Latino man.
I'm not going to give my age. I don't want to age myself.
(24:26):
But going to my mom's house and or even to my in laws, it's
everything. My mom, she's still cooking with
the vegetable oil today. We're in the high 80s and here
in the Midwest and she's making pozole.
My mom, it is a birthday party for my niece, but she we are
(24:48):
having pozole today and that's one meal that I don't eat.
It's just, I've said this beforethat to me that meal, I don't
know me personally, it stays in my system for two days and I
don't like how I feel with it. When I started changing my diet
last year, I wouldn't get any crap from anybody, but everybody
(25:09):
would just kind of like, OK, then what do you want to eat and
what do you want to eat? So we could eat that and to know
it's not about that. And then even for today, later
on for the birthday party, I'm already thinking, what do I want
to take that I could either eat myself or share with everyone.
But everyone I know everybody atthe party is going to be eating
posole to me. I don't, I'm not going to eat it
(25:30):
because I know how I'm going to feel.
And if I want to feel great, youknow, for the next couple days,
I know what I got to do. I know what I got to avoid.
Yeah, and for a lot of people, it creates pressure and even
guilt. People don't always understand
why you're skipping the bread, turn down alcohol or asking what
oils in the food was cooked in. But those are all a lot of
questions I asked. And then sometimes you feel bad
(25:51):
too, because you think like that.
You have the people, like, I know you're coming.
What do you want me to cook you?No, don't go out of your way.
I'll eat when I get home or eat before I go and stuff too.
So it's like, I don't want to cause any issues either way.
We just need to learn when to dothings and when not to.
But the pressure can feel subtle, right?
But it's powerful. We don't want to be the odd one
(26:13):
out. We want to connect with the
people, right? Especially based on cultures,
right? Food is emotional.
It's tied to a lot of tradition,so even when you know
something's not good for your body, you eat it to avoid
standing out. Or sometimes you just crave in,
right? See that piece of cake?
Man, I know this is going to mess me up, but I'll just have a
little piece and even that little piece messes you up.
(26:33):
So what's my favorite cake? It's the one that you had for
your birthday. Oh yeah, for Whole Foods.
Yeah, I've since then, I think I've had it for my birthday, and
I think I had it one other time for this, for this past Mother's
Day. Shout out to all their Mamas out
there. Happy Mother's Day.
My brother-in-law took a Cheesecake Factory cheesecake
and for some reason this time I wasn't like, Oh yeah, I'll take
(26:56):
one. I it didn't catch my attention.
It didn't. I wasn't craving it.
Yeah, and I think the less sugaryou eat and less stuff like
that, the less cravings you have.
But that's where that emotional layer comes in.
Healing can feel lonely. You start prioritizing, you're
out. Sometimes people around you
don't get it. We see that a lot.
Oh, you're the healthy 10. This, it's like people don't
(27:16):
take it serious and it's not always about looks again,
because you could see a lot of people overweight, whatever that
are healthier than the skinny people.
So it's not always about looks and stuff like that too.
But it's one of those things like, I don't care what people
think, this about my health, this about my future and living
long. You know, and it's, I agree with
you, but when all this was changing, I'm glad I got support
(27:40):
from the family, my immediate family, my wife, the kids, They
were happy. They were willing to do the
change with me, my mom. I like my mom.
It was there. There hasn't been pushback from
my siblings either. I feel like they acknowledge and
they're OK with it. I would say that they also might
(28:00):
change their diet eventually andthey're doing what they're
supposed to. Nobody has really, I guess,
other than work. Some of the guys would be like,
oh, look at him, he's eating yogurt and it's and in my head
it's like, could I could I rebuttal back?
Do I say something mean to them? But for what I know it's not
going to give me any. It's not going to give me
anything other than just me getting something off my chest.
(28:23):
Am I going to regret what I'm going to tell them?
Most likely. So I rather not say anything.
I'll just rather eat the yogurt that was causing me a
sensitivity too. So that's what I would take to
work my yogurt parfait and some of the guys who make fun of me.
Yeah, but I know what I'm eating.
I know what I need to be puttingin my body to feel the best.
(28:45):
Yeah, because I think a lot of people are scared to face their
own health stuff and that's why it's sometimes makes people
defensive when they say, oh comeon, live a little, you're
obsessed. Used to be fun.
It's I again, I care less. I'm here about my long term
health. The emotional disconnect is
real. People say healing is hard
because cravings willpower, routine, but often what makes it
(29:07):
the hardest of the fair being alone in it, right?
I think a lot of us do. That's why support system
matters so much. Having just one person in your
corner who understands what you're trying to do right.
That's where you got your wife there kind of get you keeps you
motivated too. And I annoy you enough.
So whether it's a coach, a friend, a partner, even your
online community, it reminds youyou're not crazy.
(29:27):
You're just ahead of the curve, right?
These you got to think these people aren't taking their help
seriously. I need to, right?
And so that's why it's one of those things where we got to not
compete with other people and just focus on yourself.
Who cares what our people think? Now, let's not forget how past
emotional trauma stress plays into this.
Too many of us were raised in households where food was
comfort, reward or punishment. So healing isn't just making
(29:50):
different choices. It's about unlearning beliefs
you had since childhood. I'm guilty for it all.
It's growing up. It was four of us.
It's not just about what we eat. It's about why we eat, when we
eat, and who we eat around And even beyond food, healing takes
emotional bandwidth. If you're already stretched thin
at work, juggling family demands, or dealing with mental
(30:12):
stress, it's hard to stick to the plan.
Your nervous system doesn't havethe room for one more thing,
even if that thing is, hey, let's be healthy.
But that's why we have to be compassionate with ourselves.
Healing isn't just being the most disciplined person in the
world, right? It's about being the most aware
of your triggers. What triggers you?
Aware when you need space, right?
Have your boundaries, aware whenyou're compromising your needs
(30:35):
just to keep peace with other people.
And sometimes we do that at those family parties.
Exactly. Hey, you don't want another one.
You don't want another. You don't want another torta,
You don't want another bowl of pozole and being there already
for Christmas tamales, all that. And I've said this before.
I'm Mexican. I grew up in Mexican food.
And when I'll tell my friends atwork, yeah, like I'll eat
(30:58):
Mexican food, but it's not my first choice.
And they're like, what? You're crazy.
That's what we crave. Oh, yeah.
I prefer my traditional meals. My and I said this before and
you called it, what did you callit?
Gas station food for a Boston Market style, You got the
Turkey, mashed potatoes, just a better quality KFC meal.
That's what I'm pretty much. That's what I crave.
Not KFC in general, but like AKFC meal.
(31:22):
And I see a lot of people on social media not really wanting
tortas. It depends in I like the food
ones. I know there's a new terminology
now for healthier women out there.
I'm not into that. That's not I'm married, I'm
happily married. I have nothing to do with it.
Not thought that. Yeah.
So the people who matter will adjust, right?
(31:43):
Like your family members. They OK.
That's how Geraldo eats. They get used to it.
They might not understand the right way, right?
But over time, they'll respect what you're, you're making
yourself a priority and hopefully others learn from
that. Why don't they?
So if you're listening, feel like you're the black sheep
because you're doing things differently, stay on course.
You're not selfish, you're not overreacting, you're healing.
And it takes courage and. It does take courage and once
(32:07):
you're on this journey that I'vebeen on, you'll be on.
You just need to start. But you could not have something
for such a long time and then have it again, reintroduce it
back into your body. You may be surprised and say
hey, it sit well in me, I don't feel horrible, I feel good
(32:29):
still. Or you might eat it from being
away from it for a while and then get a better reaction to
it. Yeah, let's talk about one of
the biggest barriers people facein Healing Journey is money and
time. I think this one's hits hard for
a lot of people. You hear?
I hear it so much, I'm sure you do too.
I can't afford to eat organic, Idon't have time to cook,
(32:50):
supplements are too expensive. And honestly, I get it right?
Functional medicine, real food, high quality products, they're
not cheap and modern pace you know of.
Life doesn't make things easier.Between work, family, daily
chaos, it's no wonder why peoplefeel stuck even before they
start. No.
Yeah, and supplements do get pricey.
And This is why you said it. You made me aware of this
(33:15):
numerous times to always have a back stock because you're not.
If you're on your supplement journey at the moment and you
have all of them brand new rightnow and you're on your last by
the, a lot of them are 60 to 120, So that could be one one or
two months supply. But if you're on the last leg of
(33:38):
your supplements and they're all60 count, you're going to be
done with it soon. And depending on how much you
might have spent on that whole bundle, are you prepared to
drop? Or I should say, Are you ready
to make that same purchase againas it goes on and it goes on, to
me, it's all about having a stairs.
(34:00):
And This is why I bother you. But.
That's why I said people don't realize the system set up to
keep people sick. Right?
That's why certain supplements are junker.
Hey, take more medications or the junkiest foods, the cheapest
foods, right? So that's again, the system's
there to keep you sick. Fast food is cheap, medications
are covered. And so that's why POI want to
(34:21):
use insurance and stuff. My medications, all this.
Yeah, again, fast foods, cheap medications are covered, but
preventative health, that's out of your pocket.
That's why we are cash only. But there's a reason it
shouldn't cost more to stay wellthen it does the manage to be
sick. But unfortunately, that's the
world we live in. And I hope people open up their
eyes to that and realize, hey, why is insurance covering this
(34:42):
medication? But why do I have to keep going
back to my doctor every three months?
Is there a natural way to do this?
It's not. Doesn't mean healing has to
break the bank. You don't have to buy every
organic item or take 15 different supplements.
But it does mean being strategic, right?
Focus on gives you the biggest return for your body, your
energy, your sleep, your digestion.
(35:02):
And quite frankly, just it mighthave felt expensive when I
started this journey, but just finding little tips and tricks
out there from people from you either buying Whole Foods, not
just buying. My family has never in my high
in my household, we might have gotten Maruchan maybe once or
(35:24):
twice, but I know that's bad. But my kids rather have homemade
food meals, I should say, ratherwe're having Taco night.
The wife makes homemade tortillas.
It's just being more aware of what you're investing your money
on. Yeah, we don't go eat out much
(35:48):
and when we do we always regret it because it's it was a lot of
money for a little bit of pleasure and we don't feel good
now. Especially when you're done, you
get the bill, it's like $80.00. You're like, it wasn't even that
good. Exactly.
But yeah, a lot of people say they don't have time to heal.
But reality, you either make time to heal now or you'll be
forced to deal with when you have sickness later.
And let's be real, sometimes it's not even about the lack of
(36:10):
time, it's about lack of energy. You know when you run down,
burned out, over stimulated? Even simple things like chopping
vegetables or going to bed earlyfeels like a chore.
That's why I tell people, simplify stuff.
You don't need gourmet meals every night.
You need basics, right? Batch cooked ground meat, frozen
veggies, bone broth, hard boiledeggs, rice or potatoes cooked
(36:32):
ahead of time. If you're allowed to have those,
create a rotation diet, put a decision making on autopilot.
That's how you free up time and mental bandwidth Before you go
shopping, make a grocery list. We do
mindfulobjective.com/resources. You could download different
grocery list, but I shouldn't say grocery list should be you
should meal prep in the sense actually make a meal plan and
(36:53):
just say, OK, today we're going to have tacos while we're going
to have burgers and fries the next day, we're going to have
this next day this. So when you go shopping, you buy
specific to what you need for there and you're not wasting
money. And you know what's to me, it's
one of the things that like to me, my favorite go to meal is
the the chicken and veggies because I know we make a lot and
it's good when it gets reheated the next day.
(37:16):
A fruit salad is always amazing.I'm the fruit doesn't last at my
house. And I said this before here, it
doesn't last. I have three boys.
The smallest one gave he is a fruit machine.
That guy would eat through anything.
And my secondary, I would have to say to save time would have
to be the cowboy caviar, which is it's all veg.
(37:38):
I don't want to say veggies. It has some veggies, but it has
black beans, carpanzo beans in it.
And I know I'm getting my protein that way and it stays
cold. It stays cold.
So it's that's one meal that I like taking to work the next
day. I rarely take food to work.
But when it's that specific meal, it's a cold salad and I
have chips on the side. That to me is my go to.
(38:00):
But just doing these little changes, it's taking better care
of yourself. Drink, drinking the good amount
of water with electrolytes, justmaking these small shifts in
myself. I've noticed a difference that I
if I could do it anybody. Can.
Yeah. And the other thing too, I tell
people all the time, just because of supplements, $80.00
(38:21):
doesn't mean it's better than a $25 option.
So that's one of the reasons whywe offer vetted supplements here
at Mindful Objective right through full script and labs to
Roopa Health. The reason we do that is these
are vetted supplements by doctorscientist that you know, no
fillers, limited fillers, if any, and they're high quality
products and maybe 1 brand such as Pure Encapsulation or Equal
(38:44):
Life or it maybe the Now brand, depends what it is.
We like to make sure it's vettedand stuff too.
So that's why we tell people to go to that portal to order
healthcare products and supplements and stuff because at
least they know it's vetted, it's a discount they could get
them in and they're high qualityproducts.
So again, we're not here just tomark stuff up.
In fact, we pass a discount directly to our clients.
(39:05):
Now that there's really high quality supplements that do cost
more, right? There are ones out there, right?
We know Pure is better than someof these other ones and stuff or
Thorn, but and those will cost more than say a now brand.
And again, they're all good products.
One's a little better than the other, so there are more.
Some that do cost more than yournormal grocery store brands.
(39:25):
I went and buy from a grocery store.
That's why we recommend certain products and that's why we asked
you to contact us first and we'll go over based on
recommendations and send you a link and add it to your cart and
stuff. So you could check it out and
read all the reviews and sciencebehind it, which is in that
portal too. So we believe that healing
should be accessible, right? That means guiding people with
(39:46):
the right tools, not just more tools.
Because if you stay on social media and stuff, you're just
going to keep reading, reading and it goes down a rabbit hole
and then leads to the wrong direction because these, a lot
of these people have no clue what they're talking about.
So sometimes you just don't needanother supplement.
You need better digestion, better sleep, simply cutting
back on processed foods. It's one thing that mindful
objective. We take a different approach.
(40:08):
We don't just sell products. We walk you through the process
Functional labs to personalized supplement plans.
Our goal is to help you make informed decisions that saves
you time, money and frustration down the line.
How many people get frustrated now seeing all this stuff on
social media? It gets overwhelming, like it's
a lot. It's a lot of information
overload. Yeah.
(40:28):
And we offer discounts on lab testing, supplement protocols,
coaching services, often lower than retail or even Amazon
because we rather pass on the savings then take the markup.
We're also transparent, right? This is still a business.
We still have to make money to operate, do the best we can to
keep the price as low as we can.So we still are profitable and
still able to pay the bills and keep the business going.
(40:50):
So we continue helping people making these podcasts.
But if you feel like donating, feel free to donate to my
objective. But again, we built this
platform to be sustainable so wecan keep serving a community
with high quality tools, real education, and personalized
support that works. No, I agree.
Yeah. And I was going to plug in my
Zoe account to anybody want to send me, but honestly, I'm
(41:11):
already I feel like I'm going toend up owing taxes this year.
So I'd rather not have any more go go into my account, quite
frankly, man, if I could yeah, it's getting hotter outside.
If there's AI, guess I could saya free tool, something some like
not even like a hack that's under $10 that anybody could
benefit from invest in electrolytes.
(41:34):
And now the ones that I use for a smaller bottle is 25 bucks.
But, and that's the body health one.
Yeah. And that's still last like a
month and 1/2 or yeah. And to me, quite frankly, that's
one that I would recommend anybody that's, that's my go to
life hack. And it's not even a life hack.
It's just something that I implemented into my routine
daily and it's it has helped me out immensely.
(41:58):
A reminder, mindfulobjective.com, you get
supplements at 20% off retail. So again, if your budget is
tight, start with the lowest cost, highest impact.
Walking, going to bed early, drinking filtered water,
managing blood sugar with protein rich meals.
Again, 30 grams of protein. Try to get within 30 minutes of
waking, breathing and ground exercises.
None of that cost anything, but they shift the foundation of
(42:21):
your healing on. And at the end of the day,
healing in the real world means working with what you got.
So what can you prep ahead of time?
What small meals can you go so you have something to eat so
you're not snacking on junk? What small investment will
reduce stress later, right? Is that supplements and stuff so
you don't get sick later? What habits can automate to save
(42:42):
decisions of fatigue, right? What's burning you out?
It's not about unlimited time ormoney.
It's about being intentional or both.
Kind of honor your body. You only have one of those.
Your body or temple? Both.
There you go. Now, so it the people think they
I don't know, because you get that mindset.
Oh, I don't care about life or Idon't care how long I live until
(43:04):
they're old or something's wrong, then they suddenly care
and. Many live that way or even some
will earn the one. I hate when people say I'll get
rest when I die and it's no. Prioritize your rest and look at
how good you'll feel and how great your body will run when
you get the proper sleep. Yeah, and then they're locked.
(43:26):
They'll find out when they die. They don't sleep.
Yeah. So.
So let's start to close this up.Let's close with something that
doesn't just get talked about. Enough healing world, knowing
how to push and win the pause. So many people are stuck in all
or nothing mindset. I think that's the hardest.
It's not all or nothing. It's take a day by day.
So a lot of people are going full speed, working out daily
meal prep and crushing supplements or then they
(43:49):
completely fall off. Then it gets a point where now
this is impossible, I can't do this.
It's like you're overwhelming yourself.
Just take one day at a time. Again, that's why we work with
you over three to six months. Take your time, let's work
slowly on healing. Don't do anything overnight
because then you just quit. So it's not about intensity,
right, being super intense. It's about informed information
(44:11):
and informed rest. We've been conditioned to
believe that it's not. If you're not doing constantly,
then you're failing, right? So even if you're taking
supplements 3 * a week, you knowwhat, we're hoping you take them
four times a week, hoping you'retaking five times a week and you
get it right on the right track. But it's I, I still be thankful
to say you took them three timesthis week.
Good job. It's people got a nod.
(44:33):
I don't know, stop listening to other people.
And it's not about perfection. It's about taking time, one step
at a time. The changes will happen when you
start to make those changes. They're not going to happen
overnight and it's not going to happen on their own.
If you want to change your body, you got to do something about it
now. I have had clients that come to
(44:54):
me after months of doing everything right, working out
six days a week. I had them intermittent fasting,
tracking every bite. They're still gaining weight,
feeling exhausted, not sleeping.Why?
Because their body didn't need more.
It needed safety, right? Take a break.
It needed nervous system regulation, needed space to
heal. You can't force healing on your
body when it feels threatened. And that's a lot of us, right?
(45:15):
A lot of people don't eat enough.
All this stuff too. And your body's in that, that
stuck mode to where now you're just doing all the fat and stuff
and your thyroid stuff is all dysregulated.
You're having all these issues with your nervous system.
That's where you got to pause. And just because you pause
doesn't mean you're quitting. You're calibrating.
So when things feel hard, we tend to assume we need more
(45:36):
motivation, more discipline. But maybe you need a is
reflection. Reflection, better eating,
taking a step back and seeing Why haven't you prioritize
yourself? You know you can't take care of
others if you're not taking careof yourself.
Yeah, and people ignore signs that their body gives them
fatigue, brain fog, irritability.
(45:58):
Now I did. I've dealt with all that.
I dealt with all that in one day.
And it's to me, it's not nice. It's not good.
And quite frankly, if I could avoid it, if I could, if I know
I need more food, drink more water, I'm, I'm going to do it
because last thing I need to do is go home and be irritable.
Yeah. And the difference people don't
(46:19):
know between detox and depletion, this is between
discipline and self abandonment. We got to stop confusing pushing
through what showing up. So one of the most healing
things you can do is listen, notjust to this podcast or just not
to another expert, but to your body.
Healing happens in cycles, just like seasons.
There's time for growth, there'stime for stillness.
(46:41):
If your body's asking for stillness, forcing growth will
break it down. Now, of course, it isn't
permission to abandon your health goals every time
something's uncomfortable, right?
That's this garment. It's about building a skill of
checking in and asking, Am I avoiding this out of fear
because my body generally needs rest?
Is this discomfort productive oris it draining?
(47:03):
No. Yeah, and it's for me, this
right now, this current time in the middle of May is my busiest
season for me doing work, woodworking in the garage.
To me, it's my happy place, but it's also the same place that
drains me. Yeah.
I had my full time job in the day, but I do this on the side
(47:25):
and there's sometimes where I know I'm running on fumes and I
know the what the wife will always the wife will always
notice when I am falling behind on myself.
As far as the mood swings, the irritability, can't even say the
word. Just not being me.
(47:45):
And then she'll make a huge meal, I'll eat it and I feel
like I come back to life when that's why I praise her every
day. She puts up with me, but she's
also taking care of me and the whole house.
Yeah, and that's where people need to go back to the basics.
Sleep, food, movement that feelsgood, breath, connection,
support. That's what it's about, real
(48:07):
healing, not perfection, right? Just give your body what it
needs when it needs it. So we should probably wrap this
thing up again, take one day at a time.
If you need help, reach out. We're here to coach you.
Don't stress yourself out. And if you are stressed, still
reach out. We'll get you on the right
track. So thanks for joining us on
today's episode of Real Talk. If you ever felt frustrated with
(48:27):
yourself not sticking to a plan, just know you're not alone.
Healing isn't linear. Life is unpredictable.
The truth is, most of us aren't lacking information.
We're battling burnout, distractions, and real world
limitations. Again, it's not about blame,
it's about awareness. Yeah, and I'll say this, just
talking, talking through this has helped me realize some of
the ways I've been getting in onmy own too.
(48:50):
Like on my own way too. Sometimes the best thing isn't
pushing harder, it's pausing, resetting, and building real
support. Now that's what we're all about
here, Mindful Objective. So again, if you're feeling
stuck, check out mindfulobjective.com/podcast.
You know if you'll find more episodes, lab testing info, and
ways the personalized support recommendation support your
(49:11):
goals again. And if you have any questions
and stuff too, you can always fill out a form and we'll happy
to answer those. Yeah, if you got questions that
you want answered on the show, or you just need help figuring
where to start, send it our way. We're here to help however we
can. Yeah, you don't have to over all
your whole life to heal. Just pick one thing, one habit,
(49:33):
one food swap, one mindset shift, then build from there.
And that's it. One better choice at a time.
Be kind to yourself. Progress over perfection.
Amen. Until next time, stay grounded,
stay curious, and give your bodywhat's it's really asking for.
You only get one. Take care of it, stay well.
